• Better way to stop/start Webmin and SSH

  Hi, it would be a good idea to not have webmin running all the time... just start it via ssh when I need it... so, I just stop webmin,and leaving SSH always running... when I need to access webmin, I start it through SSH. but there are lots of people from many country trying to bruteforce my SSH. I can reduce bruteforce using iptables. but because Im feeling still not safe (about 3 months ago), so I stop SSH and leaving webmin always running through custom port. I just start SSH through webmin when I need. and the result, no more bruteforce on SSH, and no bruteforce on webmin (maybe because the attacker dont know my webmin custom port) but I think this is still not really safe. and I cannot restrict access to some IP because I use random IP. If I stop both SSH and webmin, I will lost access to my server. Anyone know the better way dealing with this?

• Can I get 4 screens running on an ATI Radeon HD 5700 series video card?

  I have successfully run 3 displays using the 5700, but i want to run a 4th screen off the HDMI Port. Mainly I would like it to Mirror the primary monitor onto the TV connected to the HDMI Port. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I can get a signal to it, i just have to disable one of my original 3 monitors. Im not willing to do that. So other than disabling one of my monitors, does anyone have any suggestions?

• ASA 5510 Need to filter traffic log events to my iPhone

  For some reason I cannot update apps or download apps to any ios devices on my network (tried both iphone and ipads). When I'm at home on my own network everything works fine. This started about a week ago. I've configured my iphone with a static IP address and even used 4.2.2.2 as my dns to rule out that the issue is with my DNS Server. I'm looking at the SYSLOG in ASDM (Cisco ASA 5510) but Im not sure it is providing me enough info. It seems to be showing ACL blocks on my public ip address, but not individual client IP's, so I can't see whats going on. How can I setup a way to filter any incoming/outgoing traffic to my iPhone's static IP and try and troubleshoot this?

• mod_deflate enabled for amf?

  coldfusion 8, apache 2.2 running locally on XP pro. sp 3 -- Im trying to get mod_deflate working for amf. I've seen acouple of post that mention this is possible. But I cannot seem to get it to work for myself. eg. http://wadearnold.com/blog/flash/gzip-compression-is-not-part-of-amf the compression is working for other minetypes I've added to the AddOutputFilterByType so the deflate is working correctly. ive tried the following minetypes; application/x-amf, application-x/amf, application/amf. tho application/x-amf should be the one. Basically just added the minetype to AddOutputFilterByType thats all? Am I missing a setting?

• Dedicated server not responding. Malicious?

  My Dedicated server dies for days on end. As soon as i reboot after about 20 seconds it does again. Then it will just work again and be fine for another week or so. Im convinced its malicious. • Zabbix server sends too many notifications

  I've recently installed Zabbix server on a VPS and am very happy with it. I've installed the client on appr. 6-7 other VPSs and everything works fine. The interface is smooth, and it produces some very nice graphs. My only problem with the software is that I've set it up to send notifications on problems, but im receiving between 30 and 60 emails every day. Always something along "Server XXX is unreachable: PROBLEM", and a minute later: "Server XXX is unreachable: OK". Off course, Zabbix also recognizes when there are real problems, and e.g. when a server has been restarted. It just seems to me as if Zabbix very fast "gives up", or maybe times out faster than what suits my needs. I've been trying to google this problem several times, but given up, so now I'm trying this approach. Does anyone know of how to adjust the fidelity of these notifications/triggers?

• Problem removing registry key with .reg file

  Didnt notice this being asked so here i am. I have a problem with specific registry key: NvCplDaemon"="RUNDLL32.EXE C:\\Windows\\system32\\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup" Problem is that i have tried many variations of the reg file like: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "NvCplDaemon"=-"RUNDLL32.EXE C:\\Windows\\system32\\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup" and Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "NvCplDaemon"=-"RUNDLL32.EXE C:\\Windows\\system32\\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup" And they all seemingly complete but the key remains.It is not locked or something.I can delete and recreate it manually any time.Im guessing there is some small spelling error on my file because i think i have followed MS instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310516 This is how it looks in Registry: Someone?

• Is it possible to run pgp 6.5.8 freeware on Windows 7 64 bit machine?

  I am trying to get the PGP Command Line -Freeware Version 6.5.8 by Networks Associates working on a Wndows 7 64 bit machine. Does anyone know if it is possible? I installed it in C:\pgp when i run pgp, it keeps telling me that it can't find the pgp.cfg file. My PGPPATH is defined and set to C:\pgp I have also included this path in my Path variable Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong. The documentation states that: "The first time you start PGP, the software checks to see if the environment variable PGPPATH is defined. If PGPPATH is defined, the software puts the pgp.cfg in the %PGPPATH% directory" Edit: This is most likely a Windows 7 professional folder rights issue, since the file pgp.cfg can't get written. I tried my best given the folder full rights, but im not 100% confident that i did it right. Anyone help me?

• Simple XML variable returns "0"

  Ok, so im working with tumblr's API and im using SimpleXMLElement with php and ive run into a problem. Basically, when I call on a variable it just prints a zero. for instance : <?php echo $data->posts->post[0]->photo-url[5]; ?> This just breaks the page, and when I leave out the [5] it just prints zero I want to echo the photo-url with the number [5] but I cant get my head around this and its killing me. I just dont understand why it wont work. • How do I mount a harddrive to my /home folder in OS X?

  Im wondering how to mount my second HDD to my /home folder like you do in other *NIX systems, making the mount point just that folder and not a standard HDD. I am aware of the method of copying my /home folder and then telling OSX via System Preferences/Users & Groups to look for the folder in a different location. What I am wondering is if there is a way to properly mount the entire HDD to become nothing more than my /home. I don't want it to even show up in Finder as an HDD. Is this even possible?

• Enable: Asp.net connection pool monitoring with performance monitor

  If this question is at the wrong forum, be free to tell me. I'm a c# developer, but I'm running in a system management issue here. Intro: Im suspecting that an asp.net application is having some issues with the connection pool and that the pool is flooding from time to time. So to make sure, I want to monitor the connection pool. After some searching I found this article : http://blog.idera.com/sql-server/performance-and-monitoring/ensure-proper-sql-server-connection-pooling-2/ Basicly it explains stuff about connection pools and how you can monitor the application pool with performance monitor. The problem: So I logged in to the asp.net server(The sql database is hosted on a different server) which hosts the website. Started performance monitor. But when I want to select 'Current # pooled and nonpooled connections', I have no instance to select. There fore I can't add it. Question How can I create/supply an instance so I can monitor the connection pool? Thanks in advance BHD

• Killing an unresponsive process

  I had closed an instance of utorrent. The task no longer appears in Applications, however the process utorrent.exe appears in Processes tab of Task Manager. I tried to kill using: Kill process button in Task Manager Kill process option in SysInternals Process Explorer Suspend, resume, restart in SysInternals Process Explorer command prompt by using the command taskkill /f /im utorrent.exe Stop-Process commandlet in Windows PowerShell. All of these have failed, the process just doesn't end. I cannot restart uTorrent because of the existing process running. Is there anyway I can kill this without having to resort to a system reboot ? I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate, OEM.

• Sync Windows Live Mail between two computers

  Hi, I have a laptop where I have been using Windows Live Mail as my email application for the last year. Yesterday I got a dell desktop as well and I am desperatly trying to set up so my desktop and laptop sync the email between each other. Im using Super Flexible Synchronizer to sync the email storage folder to a NAS on my network, so when setting up the desktop naturally I set it up to download all from the NAS. But each time I open Windows Live Mail on the new machine, some emails suddenly come in duplicates, one is read, the other is not. I have ran through the registry on the new machine and updated an ID i found, in 3 places, one being: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts{blah blah blah}\DBStore\contacts.edb Still doesnt seem to be enough. Does anyone have any tips or ideas how to sync Windows Live Mail between two computers without duplicates and weird behaviour etc. grateful for your help, jesper

• Won`'t read Unicode characters over NFS mount ?

  Hello, I'm getting this strange issue when trying to play mp3's containing unicode characters ( accents ) over an NFS on OSX, it's all good over AFP, but I'm setup with NFS because it's a linux server on the other end . This is my disk utility setup : nfs://192.168.1.112/Music advanced mount parameters : -P , nolocks nosuid The strange thing is that I can see those files in the finder ( with the accents .. ) but I cant play them !! So Im wondering if it's an unicode issue, since I can see the files properly or a permission issue since I can't play them, but them it wouldn`t make sense that I can't play ONLY the files containing accents .. help ?? I've looked briefly at unattended, opsi and a bunch of stuff, but there is nowhere near enough time to evaluate them all, and they are rather complex to setup so some insight would be very appreciated. This is foremost for windows clients, but linux support would be good. Something like apt-get would've been great. • Cannot see http (apache) server outside home network

  Ive been racking my brain with this all evening. Power went out with a tstorm today, started back up my server... running apache and a team speak server on it. TS is great, cant see my web page outside my network! Firewall is disabled on the pc running it (centos btw), apache is running and working. correct ports are forwarded on my router (my isp blocks port 80). Ive tried changing ports, pretty much everything i can think of. httpd.conf is pointing to the correct addy and port, and my domain is pointing to the correct external ip. Im at a loss, any ideas out there?

• Replace an IP address with it's whois using bash

  I have a traffic log similar to this "page visited" for xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at 2013-10-30 and I would like to replace the ip address with the result of it's whois lookup. I can export the ip addresses to a separate file and then do a whois on each line, but im struggling to combine them all together. Ideally i'd like to replace the ip address in the same string and print the new string to a new file. So it would look like "page visited" for example.com at 2013-10-30 Can anyone help Here's what I have so far grep -o '[0-9]\{1,3\}\.[0-9]\{1,3\}\.[0-9]\{1,3\}\.[0-9]\{1,3\}' clean_cites.txt > iplist.txt for i in `cat iplist.txt` do OUTPUT=$(geoiplookup -f /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIPOrg.dat $i) echo $i,$OUTPUT >> visited.txt done Like I said,this produces a separate file with a list of ip addresses and their relevant hostnames, so I either need to search for the ip address in file and and replace it with the text in file b (which will give the ip address and hostname) or replace the ip address in place. • Win 7 BSOD stucks at dumping

  Recently Ive been getting frequent bsods, which always gets stuck at dumping without finishing it, with most of them showing no error messages. This never happened before i upgraded to new rams, but 2 passes of memtest86 turned out fine. Tried reinstalling windows, problem still there. Tried initiating a manual crash, and that did create a successful dump. The SSD win 7 is on doesn't seem to have any problems, crystaldisk says its healthy. Varied the cpu multiplier between stock and +500Mhz, crashed regardless. Left voltage control to auto. Im fairly sure its a hardware problem, just cant pinpoint which specific part(s). The specs- Windows 7 x64 (1 day old) 955 x4 BE c3 (running at stock) (3.5 years old) GA-970A-D3 (1.5 years old) Gigabyte 6950, unlocked to 6970 (still at 6950 speeds) (<3 years old) 2x4GB 1600 CL9 HyperX Blu (running at 11-11-11, default motherboard setting) (<1 month old) Plextor M5s (around 5 months)

• Easy Deployment Split Tunnel VPN Connection

  I was wondering if anybody could offer some insight as to how I can mass deploy VPN connection settings that support split tunneling. It has to work on both Mac and Windows systems though if a script is used, it obviously can be 2 separate scripts for both platforms. I will be setting up a Windows server with a file server and Exchange server and to access the file server I will have the clients go through VPN because we will have sensitive data. I don't want the servers network to be bogged down with the clients normal internet traffic so I will be needing some way to setup split tunneling on the clients without them having to put in a few commands every time to setup the static routes. Ive looked at Cisco VPN client but I want to try and stick with windows RRAS and avoid buying a Cisco VPN endpoint. Im basically looking for a good VPN client that can support split tunneling and mass deployment.

• Dual Screens with Widescreen monitors?

  I want to build a new computer and purchase new monitor(s). At my old job I had two 20" 4:3 and I absolutely loved this setup. However, the stores in my country only seem to have widescreen monitors nowadays, and the only 4:3 LCDs i have been able to find are 17". My question is: Do widescreens suck for using them as dual monitors? Can anyone with this setup comment on their experience with having multiple widescreen monitors? Would it be better to get three 17" 4:3 LCDs instead of two widescreens? If i go with widescreens, should i go with the smallest ones i can find? Purchasing a single big widescreen monitor is not an option for me, since being able to maximize an app on a specific area of the screen is a must have for me and im not willing to use "hacky" apps for this purpose that do a crappy job.   Hello all, i have sth.bat file which launches my java program on compuiter A. i start this application from computer B by using "psstart \computerA "c:\sth.bat" ". but i when it comes to kill it in the same way, im limited with the process name. Because when sth.bat is run, i see a cmd.exe and java.exe in process list. I have to use the process name with "pskill \computerA processName". But i have more than one applications named cmd.exe and java.exe. How can i solve this problem?

• How to symlink folders and exclude certain files

  Hey Guys, I'm not a server guru (unfortunately) but have a decent knowledge of linux & bsd. I'm trying to symlink multiple instances of HLDS (game server) but need to exclude certain folders & config files to achieve this properly. I need to do it this way as HLDS loads many mods automatically, and putting an exception to disable the mods doesnt work for all of them. so basically i want: /home/user/hlds-install (the base install) /home/user/server1 /home/user/server2 etc... and then be able to manually put any configs/mods ive excluded into the server dir's so that each server can be configured individually. Can anyone tell me how to do this, perhaps some sort of bash script so that I can just change the targets to run it each time i want to create a new one. I have quite a number to make so doing the whole thing manually for each one definately isn't an option and im all for working smarter, not harder! Thanks :)

• Mac Book Pro and Photosohp working canvas lost off screen somewhere

  I seem to have a unique issue. I have a mac book pro which I often have connected to one or 2 additional monitors, and I think this is in part my issue. Cause when Im at home working with only the built in monitor and I go to open something new or existing in photoshop my canvas if you will call it that is no where to be found. I checked my display settings, its treating it as a one monitor solution. I've tried to in photoshop to bring all my windows to front, Ive tried to cascade and tile my windows, ive tried to reset my work area, and to no avail I can't for the life of me get the canvas to come to my screen so I can work with what ever I intend to work on. Anyone else have this problem or run into similar? How did you fix it?
