• Windows 2003 Server Suddenly Drops Connections to everything but PING and port 80 (webserver)

  Hi, I'm running a Windows 2003 Dedicated server, and the box has been rock solid for more than 2 years now. Just recently, I have had an issue where after a certain ammount of time the server will just stop accepting connections on all ports except 80, and still responds to pings. If you surf to a static HTML page on the box, you can display it. If you pull up a PHP file that has an outside database connection, it fails. RDP refuses to connect, and LogMeIn reports that "The connection was reset" The only fix at this time is to have the provider physically reboot my box to correct the issue. The event log doesn't seem to be leaving helpful messages, and I am at a lost to what is causing this error since I have not installed any new software in months on it. Any tips or help would be appreciated to tracking down this issue. I don't mind updating the question as responses come in, I just do not know where to start troubleshooting because it seems random at this time.

• Forward public port to localhost

  I have a process running on my Ubuntu 12.04 server that insists on binding to a public IP address. I only want it accessible from localhost, and NOT the outside world. I've been trying to work out a way to forward 1.2.3.4:8888 to 127.0.0.1:8888. I saw something about iptables not wanting to forward connections to loopback, and I haven't been able to make it work with xinetd either. It's also important that the connection not only be available on localhost, but be inaccessible on the interface it's trying to run on. Is this even possible?

Just 2 is good. Checked GeForce GT 430 Specs but have no idea whether it will support or not. • Tunneling through SSH for 1521 port access?

  I am developing locally on my computer, using my own Apache server with PHP configured. My database however is remotely located on an Oracle 11g Database Server. We were also given a separate remote server for hosting our .html and .php files, however only FTP access has been provided there. Development is far too slow waiting for the FTP connection to push. So I decided to develop locally, but still use the remote DB server. Unfortunately that gives me an error. Not sure how—or where—to integrate tunnelling. Do I add something to the oci_connect HOST in my PHP file, or do I encapsulate my whole environment over SSH?

• DELL U2410 Monitor(Display Port) & Graphic card

  I was looking for a 24" monitor and bought the Dell 24" inch ultra sharp monitor which has DisplayPort( new keyword for me) seems it is equivalent to HDMI. Now I would like to enhance the display capabilities for my laptop and desktop(both have VGA output as of now). Couple of questions in mind: Is there a single HD graphic card which i could use for both desktop and laptop? I understand it has to be external but if its costly then I would stick on internal graphic card for my desktop. Please recommend external if its cost effective else I would go for internal one(Budget is around $70 or Rs 4000. Is there a HD card which I could use for both HD video and 5.1 channel audio output? I generally use the computer for office work/ listening music and watching movies, not gaming.

• Is it possible to host a website with Apache HTTP through a ZyXEL EQ-660R modem and a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router?

  Essentially, I have a spare desktop computer I'd like to turn into a web server, but my modem and wireless router are very difficult to work with. I installed Apache HTTP and successfully hosted a test page which can be accessed anywhere on the LAN. However, I'm having trouble setting up the server to be accessed from my external IP address. I was supplied with a ZyXEL EQ-660R DSL modem by my ISP (CenturyLink) and bought a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router in which to connect my laptop and spare desktop. ZyXEL's website is no help, and I don't think much of the problem is with the Netgear router. I've played with many settings and have tried to forward port 80 from the modem, but I've had no luck. Could someone direct me toward a solution or recommendations for more promising hardware? Or should I admit defeat and explore other hobbies? :)

  I havent been able to find a solution to my particular problem. I have a MAC which I set up as a web server and configured my router to forward to the local IP. When trying to access my site from outside, it does say "It works!", however, when I call a simple Hello World PHP script that I have, I am getting an error that the page could not be opened. I did enable PHP on my machine so thats not the problem. I really have no idea how can I access - I followed so many tutorials and did everything correctly. • Binary data from a serial port in linux using c

  I am reading binary data from a serial port on Phidget sbc using Linux to get a command from an application running on a PC. I wrote a test program in VB to read the data into a byte array and convert it to decimal to use it but can’t figure out how to do it in c. I am unable to come up with anything with the research I have done on the internet. Command sent from PC is 0x0F. To check if I am getting correct data I read the data and send it back. Here is what I get back. Returned data has a carriage return added to it. Hex Display 0F00 0000 0D ‘\’ Display \0F\00\00\00\r Normal display just display a strange character. This tells me that the data is there that I can use, but can’t figure out to extract the value 0F or 15. How can I convert the incoming data to use it? I tried converting the received data using strtol, but it returns 0. • Advice on logic circuits and serial communications

  As far as I understand the serial port so far, transferring data is done over pin 3. As shown here: There are two things that make me uncomfortable about this. The first is that it seems to imply that the two connected devices agree on a signal speed and the second is that even if they are configured to run at the same speed you run into possible synchronization issues... right? Such things can be handled I suppose but it seems like there must be a simpler method. What seems like a better approach to me would be to have one of the serial port pins send a pulse that indicates that the next bit is ready to be stored. So if we're hooking these pins up to a shift register we basically have: (some pulse pin)-clk, tx-d Is this a common practice? Is there some reason not to do this? EDIT Mike shouldn't have deleted his answer. This I2C (2 pin serial) approach seems fairly close to what I did. The serial port doesn't have a clock you're right nobugz but that's basically what I've done. • Logitech webcam device only recognised by one software, without drivers

  A couple weeks ago I purchased a Logitech webcam at a garage sale; It did not come with any driver DVDs or anything like that. I plugged it in, turned on my computer, and continued work as usual. I did not at the time (and still have not) gotten any drivers for the device. Recently, though, I started up an audio software named as Cubase, only to find that it was picking up audio reads off of... something. I checked my sound card, and everything else plugged into my computer, but couldn't find where in the world this audio was being picked up from. There were no microphones listed in the device managers, and no "unknown devices" or whatever. Everything seemed as it always was. Running out of ideas, i blew an air-horn directly into the general area of the webcam, located directly in front of me. Sure enough, the audio peaked, indicating that the microphone was definitely in the webcam and that Cubase was somehow picking up this audio, even without drivers. The software lists the device as a "Universal USB Microphone". Adobe Audition, Soundbooth, and other audio applications cannot find the device either. Why is it that this one software (Cubase) can use this device without a driver, while every other piece of software on the computer can't? Not even the operating system can recognize it.   I've been struggling with this one for a few days. I've recently upgraded an older computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Neither my digital camera (A Canon SD1200IS) nor iPhone are ever detected as cameras, nor ever show up as accessable in Explorer. With the Canon camera, no driver is required. It's supposed to work with the default Windows 7 drivers. However, in the Control Panel's Device Manager, I'm always seeing a yellow icon next to the "Canon Digital Camera" device. I've uninstalled the device and let Windows attempt to reinstall, but it can never find a driver to install. With the iPhone, it's very similar. One big difference, though, is that iTunes can see the iPhone and back it up, etc. However, again when I go to the Device Manager, there's a yellow icon next to the iPhone. I've uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, rebooted, deleted drivers, and let Window try to reinstall the driver, but it can never find the driver. So there seems to be some correlation that my machine can't detect cameras properly, and that it might be even a lower-level type of driver I'm struggling with. I know that USB however, does work, because I have have an external drive hooked into the machine. I've gone through the web and tried two hours worth of fixes, without success. I feel like if I can get the Canon camera detected, then the iPhone will be on it's way to being fixed too. BTW, I couldn't really find anything of use in the Event viewer. Any and all suggestions welcome.

• Closing laptop lid and using external display causes mouse to move on it's own

  I plugged my ASUS Taichi Laptop into an external monitor via the VGA Adapter that it comes with. It was working fine, but then I configured a power option so I could shut the lid without it going to sleep (so I could use just the external monitor with an external keyboard/mouse). Problem is though, now, when the lid is closed and I move the mouse, the mouse is moving around on it's own, but when I open the laptop lid back up, the mouse is fine. I looked under the lid when it was closed and the display properly shuts off on the laptop. It's not the external mouse/keyboard because I completely unplugged them and it was still happening. Nobody is hacking me or anything, I totally went into airplane mode/pulled the wire. I have a touchscreen, but I put a piece of paper over it and it wasn't doing it. I was thinking it might be the trackpad being touched somehow by the screen when the lid is closed? But I went into windows 8 control panel options and I couldn't find anywhere to disable it (it sees the USB mouse I think).

• DriveImage XML fails with a Windows Volume Shadow Service Error

  I'm trying to image a SATA laptop hard drive, using DriveImageXML, that is attached to my computer via a USB adapter. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. DriveXML is returning: Could not initialize Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS). ERROR C:\Program Files (x86)\Runtime Software\Drivelmage XML\vss64.exe failed to start. ERROR TIMEOUT Make sure VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. Click Help for more information. VSSVC.EXE is running in Task Manager, as is VSS64.exe. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Some other information that might be relevant. Browsing to the drive is successful, but accessing certain folders returns an "access" error. Windows runs a permissions adder that adds the current user profile to the NFTS permissions. Could this be the cause of the issue? DriveImage XML is running as Administrator. Thoughts?

• Dell Dimension 8400 Startup error

  Hello all, thanks first for taking the time to read this and possibly help me...... now I am pretty decent of a computer tech...but not enough. I am having an issue with my computer which is running windows xp and as I mentioned it is a dell Dimension 8400. as soon as I power the system up the fan goes into hyper drive (spins like crazy and is very loud) then the start up screen with dell comes up and the loading bar gets stuck on the process of "Bios Revision A00" and never loads beyound that. I have read alot about it and think that the main problem was that it can not locate the file (which does have an updated version) I think it is A09. I can not enter safe mode, Bios mode or anything. I do have the file on my other computer and I was wondering if there is a way that I can use a usb flash drive (as I have read on other sites) to create a bootable MS-Dos diskette but I am failing at creating as such....is this possible? or is there anything else I can do? I tried to remove the battery from the system for about 10 minutes while it was completely unplug and tried then to reboot it and go into the bios menu but the same thing keeps happening....can anyone help me :-(

• No power save on external hard drive - How to implement?

  I recently bought a new 3.5" USB external hard drive which I thought had a power save feature on it, but it turns out that it doesn't. So whether it's being used or not, it spins, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't so loud and didn't get really really hot. After doing some research, it seems like what controls this is the enclosure of the hard drive and not the drive itself or the OS (although I suspect that's not entirely true). I attempted to use the "hdparm" utility but it couldn't identify my externals. Just to be clear, I'm defining power save as a hard drive spinning down after a certain time period of not being used (read from/written to). Also, I have other externals that do this, so it's not a problem from my computer. Here's my question: Is there a way to implement a power save-like feature on my hard drive through software, OS settings, or anything else? Here's some details: Running: Windows XP Home SP2 HD Model: Cavalry CAUM-B-OTB 2TB (although the website only lists 1TB max) Inside: Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 (HDS722020ALA330) (I would link, but new users can only post 1) Thanks in advance.

I tried to place one more param in CFLAGS in Makefile with value "-I/usr/local" but no luck =( People in irc [freenode server, #openbsd channel] refuses give any help for ports at all, and even more - because this is 4.7 unstable version.
