  • Polling servers at the same port - Threads and Java

    Hi there. I'm currently busy working on an IP ban tool for the early versions of Call of Duty 1. (Apparently such a feature wasn't implemented in these versions). I've finished a single threaded application but it won't perform well enough for multiple servers, which is why I am trying to implement threading. Right now, each server has its own thread. I have a Networking class, which has a method; "GetStatus" -- this method is synchronized. This method uses a DatagramSocket to communicate with the server. Since this method is static and synchronized, I shouldn't get in trouble and receive a whole bunch of "Address already in use" exceptions. However, I have a second method named "SendMessage". This method is supposed to send a message to the server. How can I make sure "SendMessage" cannot be invoked when there's already a thread running in "GetStatus", and the other way around? If I make both synchronized, I will still get in trouble if Thread A is opening a socket on Port 99999 and invoking "SendMessage" while Thread B is opening a socket on the same port and invoking "GetStatus"? (Game servers are usually hosted on the same ports) I guess what I am really after is a way to make an entire class synchronized, so that only one method can be invoked and run at a time by a single thread. Hope that what I am trying to accomplish/avoid is made clear in this text. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    What would be a simple design pattern for sharing a COM port over TCP to multiple clients? For example, a local GPS device that could transmit co-ordinates to remote hosts in realtime.   • ftp connection problem, vsftp server, active mode

    I have a server that runs vsftpd to handle ftp connections. One of my users have a notebook with Total Commander and WinSCP installed. Both ftp clients fail right after the connection is established to the server and it tries to download the directory listing with the following error message: Timeout detected. Could not retrieve directory listing PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. Error listing directory '/'. The weird thing is: the notebook works perfectly ok with other ftp servers. My ftp server also works well with other clients. In fact, this user also has a pc running on the same LAN as the notebook and the pc works well with the ftp server. We use PORT ftp connection mode. Passive mode works well but is not an option at this point. I would post more technical details but I don't even know what this problem is related to. Anyway, below is the server side tcpdump for the failed connection attempt. There's no further communication between the client and the server after the last line of log.     I created own custom CentOS iso. I used mkisofs make it. This is part of my isolinux.cfg file: label vesa menu label Install ^RAIDIX system kernel vmlinuz append initrd=initrd.img xdriver=vesa nomodeset text linux ks=cdrom:/isolinux/ks.cfg If I specify parameter ks=cdrom:/isolinux/ks.cfg my iso will boot only from cd or dvd-rom. If I specify parameter ks=hd:<device>:/ks.cfg my iso will boot only from usb-drive. Can I specify ks parameter to boot from both type of installation media?

  • git init --bare permission denied on 16gb USB stick

    I am using GIT on a Windows 7 machine (64 bit) and have been learning how to use GIT to version control my files. Now I want to be able to create a --bare repository on an external device (in this case a 16gb USB stick) but unfortunately when I try to create a --bare repository on it I get the following error: f:/: Permission denied I am using the GIT Bash program which is installed with GIT on Windows machines, so these are the commands I am typing in (I am also opening the program as administrator by holding ctrl + shift when I open it) cd /f git init --bare f:/: Permission denied However if I create a normal repository it works just fine: cd /f git init Initialized empty repository in f:/.git/ Can anybody shed some light on why I can't create a --bare repository? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi, I'm developing a cross-plattform application that is delivered an run dirctly form an USB stick. As FAT32 ist the only FS working well for this (rw on windos/linux/mac) we use it as the FS for the stick. My Problem is that from Ubuntu 10.4 - 10.10 something changed at mounting the stick is mounted with files: rw-rw-r directories: rwxrwxr-x and (that is really strange) the Win32 Version of the application app.exe: rwxrwxr-x I tried for quit a while to find out where this is configured but could not find it - simple udev rule with MODE="0777" simpyl gets ignored. Any kind of idea help is very, very welcome, as not being able to find a solution for this is a real show stopper. thanks in advance and kind regards, Chris

    Hi, I use a USB HDD a lot between lots of different Windows Boxes. What I find after a while is that there get to be lots of different Permission on the files in some cases stopping me looking at files or removing them. They want Admin rights or even sometimes you need to put the disk back into the original machine with the original user. This is a right pain. Is there away of making the disk have Modify All for All Users and making this the default for all files on the disk. Thanks

  • Slower wireless speed in Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) on Asus USB-N13

    I have an Asus USB-N13 which I use for wireless internet on my desktop. The download speed I get on Windows 7 (dual-boot) is 15.22 Mbps. On Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) I can only get 1.09 Mbps. I asked a question about this on the Ubuntu forums as well, but I did not get an answer.     I had a room mate that put a livecd in my desktop and looked around on my machine. I caught him in the act and threw him out. I haven't had a room mate for a while now and so as to avoid the livecd issue again I encrypted the hard drive, the machine is running centos 6.3. Is there anyway that I can avoid typing the password in each time if I have usb key in the machine to feed the password to the system? Additional question.   • How can I configure a Linksys EA4500 + usb printer for network printing (without connect cloud)

    The documentation and classic firmware (2.0.37) for Cisco's Linksys EA4500 is a bit sparse on setup details. It says I can connect a USB-printer, but then goes on to try to sell "Connect Cloud" remote management software. I don't want that. I just want to know how to set this up with the existing advanced firmware. Is it possible? AFAIK, to setup a IPP or LDP printer, there is usually some kind of queue configuration on the server (i.e. the ea4500 in this case), but I can't find it in the firmware. I also have been unable to find any existing protocols from win7 or mac osx. (windows network share, IPP/LDP etc.) I'm curious if I need to have the "Storage" accounts active and connect to my router either via the local IP or router name. There's a lot of unknowns here; it would help to know how this particular router actually works.

    Previously, i can update my music files using Oviplayer to my E71 Nokia. Now whenever i plug in my E71 i choose PC suite. i go to Oviplayer in my laptop. and i select the mobile phone section and i press the connect button, automatically my phone is disconnected via USB. the alternative is to choose media transfer or media player. The same thing happens. And the connecting screen at Ovi player is like hanged. I have previously transferred songs, but only twice. first time this has happened to me. I do not know why. I tried to plug in the device, and it was properly recognized.   • Debian Testing install USB menu does not respond to keyboard

    I'm trying to install Debian Testing onto my Acer Aspire One ZG5 using the testing versions of boot.img and debian-testing-i386-CD-1.iso. I previously installed (two days ago) the latest release of stable, and the boot.img/CD1 from that worked fine, and installed seamlessly. With testing though, the menu does not respond to the keyboard as soon as the menu appears to select Install/Graphical install/Help, etc. I have also tried to boot with an external (USB) keyboard, which again, works fine with the stable version of boot.img/CD1, but not testing. I did some searching and couldn't find anything that looked similar. Any ideas?

  • Prevent Windows 7 prompt format USB HDD

    I am running Windows 7. I have a USB HDD 100% formatted with a Trucypt partition. When I insert the drive into my system, Windows asks if I would like to format the drive, each time I insert the drive. So how do I turn this prompt off? If so, I would prefer it be applied globally (e.g. no more prompts for any other drives). Since its an invisible partition unless mounted with Trucypt, Windows is always going to think nothing is there and continue to prompt me. I don't want to hit enter on the keyboard a few times by mistake doing something else and have it to go through the process. I'll lose everything. It is all backed up BTW. Will just be inconvienient.

Each time it gets error mount -t nfs 192.168.1.19:/media/vol2 /mnt/nfs/ mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 192.168.1.19:/media/vol2 Here is the /etc/exports file entry showmount -e on nfs server gives Export list for bond: /media/vol2 */24 On the client machine nfs-client package is installed. What more I need to check? Is it logged some where?

    Hello, i am in China now, and when i saw an USB digitizer (resistive), i bought it, thinking that i could be used as a mouse. When i connect it to my windows 7 rc1 laptop, the system properties says "pen input available" But, nothing happens when i touch the panel... i installed the bundled drivers, in chinese only, and NOT in unicode (so the text is garbled) When i install the driver, i get access to a special key on the tablet, "switch from pen input to mouse", and the driver will move the pointer according to the position on the tablet. (but no click) If i use the "pen mode", the computer will use a special chinese IME that is very awkard, i want to use the microsoft ime, and be able to draw/take notes on the screen There are "generic" drivers? Or just a plain mouse driver that will click when i press on the surface The tablet name is "qiancai"

  • Personal wiki on usb / the cloud?

    I'm looking for a personal wiki that can be installed on an usb stick and (more importantly) somewhere on the cloud (dropbox). I've looked at the Wiki Matrix, but I really don't care that much about any of the options, so I end up with a choice between ~50 wikis at the end. Tried out TiddlyWiki but there are some things that really annoy me like the fact that all pages get opened on the same page. It really looks like it'd turn into a giant mess pretty quickly. I'd like to have something that's pretty close in terms of appearance and usability to wikipedia. Hierarchical categories for organization would be really nice. And accessible storage (in case I ever want to convert it to something else).

  • HALEVT troubleshooting: VFAT usb storage device gets mounted with root:root user:group

    Hi, i'm banging my head for number of days around this problem. using Halevt for automounting, everything mostly works, but the only thing is that Halevt mounts external USB storage devices as root. So, as user i cannot write to files on them. Halevt gets run as halevt user on boot through /etc/init.d script. This is Ubuntu Lucid with Awesome WM. No GDM. Running halevt as user seem to not work (halevt runs but doesn't respond on Insert) I know HAL is deprecated and removed and i should probably write my own UDEV rules, but until then it seems there must a be simple hack that enables mounting VFAT/NTFS devices with specific uid/gid. this question/answer helps a lot, but not specifically to the above.
