  • sudo changes PATH - why?

    This is the PATH variable without sudo: $ echo 'echo $PATH' | sh /opt/local/ruby/bin:/usr/bin:/bin This is the PATH variable with sudo: $echo 'echo $PATH' | sudo sh /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin As far as I can tell, sudo is supposed to leave PATH untouched. What's going on? How do I change this? (This is on Ubuntu 8.04). UPDATE: as far as I can see, none of the scripts started as root change PATH in any way. From man sudo: To prevent command spoofing, sudo checks ``.'' and ``'' (both denoting current directory) last when searching for a command in the user's PATH (if one or both are in the PATH). Note, however, that the actual PATH environment variable is not modified and is passed unchanged to the program that sudo executes.

  • Why oh why doesn't my asp.net treeview update?

    I'm using an ASP.net treeview on a page with a custom XmlDataSource. When the user clicks on a node of the tree, a detailsview pops up and edits a bunch of things about the underlying object. All this works properly, and the underlying object gets updated in my background object-management classes. Yay! However, my treeview just isn't updating the display. Either immediately (which i would like it to), or on full page re-load (which is the minimal useful level i need it to be at). Am i subclassing XmlDataSource poorly? I really don't know. Can anyone point me in a good direction? Thanks!   • Why should I use PropertyProxyValidator? ASP.NET

    I understand thatthe PropertyProxyValidator integrates with the ASP.NET UI. But, it cannot do client side validation. How would it be any different from throwing in a label in the UI and populating the errors on the server side? Also, If I am using Validation Application Block, what approaches do you suggest for client side validation if I don't want to duplicate rules on server and client side?

  • Why is url not registered?(Drupal 6.x)

    I'm using hook_menu to register new url so that accessing this url would return some data to ajax function. As title suggested, this url is not registered. How do I know that? I've tried typing this in address bar but, drupal, return main template only rather than the tests string that I created. I'm positive that my module is working for php issues error if I intentionally write wrong syntax. And, yes, I clear cache whenever I make changes. I have this in my config: frontend frontend 0.0.0.0:9999 [snip] capture cookie foo len 10 Then I use nc to talk directly to the server and send it: GET / HTTP/1.1 Cookie: foo=bar I get a log line, but there's a "-" where the captured cookie should be.

  • Why am I getting a ClassCastException here?

    I'm creating an android application and i'm trying to use a PreferenceActivity. I'm getting the java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String error when it gets to this line return PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context).getInt(USER_TERM, USER_TERM_DEF); I thought it might be because I'm not converting it properly from it's string value in the EditText box to the int I need but I can't figure out how to fix this, or is that even the cause? I'm flummoxed.     When i write something like this: <Style x:Key="panelS"> <Setter Property="Orientation" Value="Horizontal" /> <Setter Property="DockPanel.Dock" Value="Top" /> </Style> I get the error that says: Cannot resolve the Style Property 'Orientation'. Verify that the owning type is the Style's TargetType, or use Class.Property syntax to specify the Property. Sure i have a Dock panel with many Stackpanels in it so i want to move Stackpanel's properties to the style. But there is this error and i dont quite understand what it means and what is the workaround(..i'd wanted not to assign Orientation on every Stackpanel).

Not creating the class I think I am? Not passing it the type I think I am?

  • Why do I get this strange output behavior?

    I have the following program test.cc: #include <iostream> unsigned char bogus1[] = { // Changing # of periods (0x2e) changes output after periods. 0x2e, 0x2e, 0x2e, 0x2e }; unsigned int bogus2 = 1816; // Changing this value changes output. int main() { std::clog << bogus1; } I build it with: g++ -g -c -o test.o test.cc; g++ -static-libgcc -o test test.o Using g++ version 3.4.6 I run it through valgrind and nothing is reported wrong. However the output has two extra control characters and looks like this: .... Thats a control-X and a control-G at the end. If you change the value of bogus2 you get different control characters. If you change the number of periods in the array the issue goes away or changes. I suspect it is a memory corruption bug in the compiler or iostream package. What is going on here?

    I've recently started reading up on OOP javascript and one thing that authors seem to skip over is when an object A has been declared and suddenly I see "A.prototype.constructor =A; For example, var A = function(){}; // This is the constructor of "A" A.prototype.constructor = A; A.prototype.value = 1; A.prototype.test = function() { alert(this.value); } var a = new A(); // create an instance of A alert(a.value); // => 1 So I run the command in firebug "var A = function(){};" and then "A.Constructor" Which reveals it's a function. I understand this. I run the code "A.prototype.constructor = A;" and I thought this changes the A constructor from Function to A. The constructor property of A has been changed right? Instead when I run "A.constructor" it gives me function () still. What's the point? I also see A.constructor.prototype.constructor.prototype.. what is going on?

  • Why can't I use relative URLs with IE7?

    Hello everyone. I've been Googling for a while and can't seem to find an answer to this question. My problem is as follows: For my jquery, I need my links to be relative rather than absolute. My PHP is set to return relative urls and everything is working fine, until I test it in IE7. For some reason, IE7 keeps changing my relative urls to abosulute, which breaks my js script. Is this normal? Is there a way to get around it?
