  • Why is png file looks different in firefox?

    If you take screen shot this web page in different browser, you'd see that it displays slightly different in firefox. (7.01, ubuntu) At first I thought it was because of color profile, but even if I turned on color management in firefox, the problem is still there. Although it's not a very noticeable problem, I got a perfectionist boss who asked to make it look exactly the same in every browser. Does any one know what might have caused the problem? Thanks!

  • Why do I get "could not load type" error with my custom SessionStateProvider

    My associate has created a custom SessionStateProvider for me to use with my ASP.net application. I add the file CustomSessionStateProvider to my VS2008 Web Application Project and put the appropriate reference in the web.config and it works fine. However, my supervisor wants me to set this up as a GAC reference. At my office, we have many DLLs we've created that we use as GAC references across different projects. If I add my CustomSessionStateProvider to the Global Assembly Cache, my pages throw a could not load type CustomASP.CustomSessionStateProvider error. Simple removing the DLL from the GAC makes it work again, but I want to set this up as a GAC reference. What could be causing this problem?

  • Why would ftp_connect() return false on production server if it works elsewhere for connecting to th

    I have a script that uses ftp_connect() among other FTP PHP functions for uploading a file. ftp_connect() works when executed on my local development server for connecting to a remote FTP server. The same script, when executed on the remote server does not work for connecting to the exact same FTP server. Could somebody please point me in the right direction? Thanks!   • With ARC why use @properties anymore?

    In non-ARC code retained properties handily take care of memory management for you using the self.property = syntax, so we were taught to use them for practically everything. But now with ARC this memory management is no longer an issue, so does the reason for using properties evaporate? is there still any good reason (obviously other than providing public access to instance variables) to use properties anymore?

Yet there's a growing number of developers claiming that Subversion has problems and that we should be moving to the new breed of distributed version control systems, such as Git. I wrote a tester program and found that I could GetFD 509 times, but the 510th time would error. Using Process Explorer, the number of Handles did not increase. So it seems that the dll is reaching the limit for the number of open files; setting _setmaxstdio(2048) does increase the amount of times we can call GetFD. Obviously, the close() is working quite right. After a bit of searching, I replaced the fopen() call with: long GetFD(long* fd, const char* fileName, const char* mode) { *fd = (long)open(fileName, 2); if (*fd < 0) return -1; return 0; } Now, repeatedly calling GetFD/CloseFD works. What is going on here?

    I know there are several similar questions on SO, I have used some of them to get this far. I am trying to list a set of urls that match my input values. I have a servlet which takes some input e.g. "aus" in the example below and returns some output using out.print() e.g. the two urls I have shown below. EXAMPLE Input: "aus" Output: [{"url":"http://dbpedia.org/resource/Stifel_Nicolaus"},{"url":"http://sempedia.org/ontology/object/Australia"}] Which is exactly what I want. I have seen that firebug doesn't seem to have anything in the response section despite having called out.print(jsonString); and it seems that out.print(jsonString); is working as expected which suggests that the variable 'jsonString' contains the expected values. MessageBox(g_hMainhWnd, buffer, "Oops!", MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR); ShellExecute(0, "open", "http://intranet/crash_handler.php", NULL, "", SW_SHOWNORMAL); For a little context, this code is called inside our own exception handler, which was registered with SetUnhandledExceptionFilter() Most of the time, I see the message box, and then it launches a web browser. However, I have an exe, which as far as I'm aware uses this exact code, and it successfully launches the web browser, but I do not see the message box first. Thanks Tim

PHP_EOL; ?> The code is simple - it takes a single t parameter on the url and outputs it back. So if you call it with test.php?t=%5Ca (%5c is a '\'), I expected to see: \a However, this is what I got: $ curl http://localhost/~boaz/test.php?t=%5Ca \\a Notice the double slash.   • Why Does My Vector<PEVENTLOGRECORD> Mysteriously Get Cleared?

    Hello everyone, I am making a program that reads and stores data from Windows EventLog files (.evt) in C++. I am using the calls OpenBackupEventLog(ServerName, FileName) and ReadEventLog(...). Also using this: PEVENTLOGRECORD Anyway, without supplying all of the code, here is the basic idea: 1. I get a handle to the .evt file using OpenBackupEventLog() and passing in a file name. 2. I then use ReadEventLog() to fill up a buffer with an unknown number of EventLog messages. 3. I traverse through the buffer and add each message to a vector 4. I keep filling up buffers (repeat steps 2 and 3) until I reach the end of the file. Here is my code for filling the vector: vector<PEVENTLOGRECORD> allRecords; while(_status == ERROR_SUCCESS) { if(!ReadEventLog(...)) CheckStatus(); else FillVectorFromBuffer(allRecords) } // Function FillVectorFromBuffer FillVectorFromBuffer(vector(PEVENTLOGRECORD) &allRecords) { int bytesExamined = 0; PBYTE pRecord = (PBYTE)_lpBuffer; // This is one of the params in ReadEventLog() while(bytesExamined < _pnBytesRead) // Another param from ReadEventLog { PEVENTLOGRECORD currentRecord = (PEVENTLOGRECORD)(pRecord); allRecords.push_back(currentRecord); pRecord += currentRecord->Length; bytesExamined += currentRecord->Length; } } Anyway, whenever I run this, it will get all the EventLogs in the file, and the vector will have everything I want it to. But as soon as this line: if(!ReadEventLog()) gets called and returns true (aka ReadEventLog() returns false), then every field in my vector gets set to zero. The vector will still contain the correct number of elements, it's just that all of the fields in the PEVENTLOGRECORD struct are now zero. Anyone with better debugging experience have any ideas?     The only documentation I can find (on MSDN or otherwise) is that a call to _fpreset() "resets the floating-point package." What is the "floating point package?" Does this also clear the FPU status word? I see documentation that says to call _fpreset() when recovering from a SIGFPE, but doesn't _clearfp() do this as well? Do I need to call both? I am working on an application that unmasks some FP exceptions (using _controlfp()). When I want to reset the FPU to the default state (say, when calling to .NET code), should I just call _clearfp(), _fpreset(), or both. This is performance critical code, so I don't want to call both if I don't have to...

  • Why Aren't Programs Written In Assembly More Often?

    It seems to be a mainstream opinion that assembly programming takes longer and is more difficult to program in than a higher level language such as C. Therefore it seems to be recommend or assumed that it is better to write in a higher level language for these reasons and for the reason of better portability. Recently I've been writing in x86 assembly and it has dawned on me that perhaps these reasons are not really true, except perhaps portability. Perhaps it is more of a matter of familiarity and knowing how to write assembly well. I also noticed that programming in assembly is quite different than programming in an HLL. Perhaps a good and experienced assembly programmer could write programs just as easily and as quickly as an experienced C programmer writing in C. Perhaps it is because assembly programming is quite different than HLLs, and so requires different thinking, methods and ways, which makes it seem very awkward to program in for the unfamiliar, and so gives it its bad name for writing programs in. If portability isn't an issue, then really, what would C have over a good assembler such as NASM?

  • Why is run() not immediately called when start() called on a thread object in java

I have a thread object from: Thread myThread = new Thread(pObject); Where pObject is an object of a class implementing the Runnable interface and then I have the start method called on the thread object like so: myThread.start(); Now, my understanding is that when start() is called, the JVM implicitly (and immediately) calls the run() method which may be overridden (as it is in my case) However, in my case, it appears that the start() method is not called immediately (as desired) but until the other statements/methods are completed from the calling block i.e. if I had a method after the start() call like so: myThread.start(); doSomethingElse(); doSomthingElse() gets executed before the run() method is run at all. Perhaps I am wrong with the initial premise that run() is always called right after the start() is called. Please help! The desired again is making executing run() right after start(). Thanks.

    Many programming language runtime environments use stacks as their primary storage structure (e.g. see JVM bytecode to runtime example). Quickly recalling I see following advantages: Simple structure (pop/push), trivial to implement Most processors are anyway optimized for stack operations, so it is very fast Less problems with memory fragmentation, it is always about moving memory-pointer up and down for allocation and freeing complete blocks of memory by resetting the pointer to the last entry offset. Is the list complete or did I miss something? Are there programming language runtime environments which are not using stacks for storage at all?

    I have a classifieds website. In the main page (index) I have several form fields which the user may or may not fill in, in order to specify a detailed search of classifieds. Ex: Category: Cars Price from: 3000 Price to: 10000 Color: Red Area: California The forms' action is set to a php page: <form action='query_sql.php' method='post'> In query_sql.php I fetch the variables like this: category=$_POST['category']; etc etc... Then query MySql: $query="SELECT........WHERE category='$category' etc etc.... $results = mysql_query($query); Then I simply display the results of the query to the user by creating a table which is filled in dynamically depending on the results set. However, according to an answer by Col. Shrapnel in my previous Q I shouldn't use POST here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3004754/how-to-hide-url-from-users-when-submitting-this-form The reason I use post is simply to hide the "one-page-word-document" long URL in the browsers adress bar. I am very confused, is it okay to use POST or not? It is working fine both when I use GET or POST now... And it is already on a production server... Btw, in the linked question, I wasn't referring to make URL invisible (or hide it) I just wanted it too look better (which I have accomplished with mod_rewrite).
