Is there any way to be invisible to just one user on my Pidgin buddy list, and visible to everyone else? It is a Yahoo Messenger user in case that matters.
Firefox 4's default home page provides a search engine with some snippets below. Is there any way to customize the search engine used through about:config or some other configuration file?
localStorage["search-engine"] sometimes gets reset, possibly after a FF update. I would like to avoid creating a greasemonkey script that scripts on about:home. If an extension exist to fulfill the task, I'd be happy too.
I'm using Firefox from Kubuntu 11.04 for that matters.
I have a program that i both recently installed the demo for, and just installed the full version of. When i try to uninstall the demo, it says that an existing version of the program was found at the full program's path, and must be removed before the installer can be launched.
I just want to uninstall the demo; is there any way without removing the full version of the software? (if it matters, it's Sins of a Solar Empire, but i'm hoping it won't get closed as that's merely incidental)
I cant open codinghorror.com in any of my browsers (IE, Firefox & Chrome).
Chrome gives this error msg:
Error 109
(net::ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE):
Unknown error
What could be the problem? Im running Win XP if that matters.
On MacOS (10.8.5 if that matters) I'm trying to disable off ipv6 via networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi.
Nevertheless, when I'm trying to wget a specific files URL resolves to ipv6 address and download fails.
I just wonder what I am missing in order not to feel as stupid as I currently feel.
ifconfig shows that some of interfaces have inet6 enabled, but I just don't know whether this is relevant at all. networksetup -listallnetworkservices does not show anything extraordinary I've forgot about.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 on a Lenovo T61 (in case that matters). Network Manager connects just fine to my hidden SSID, every time. Sometimes, though, it can take upwards of a minute or more to do it. When you're sitting there, staring at the screen, that can seem interminable. Any hints on how I can fix this or manually force a connection?
Thanks!
Assuming that I am NOT going to add NTFS drivers that allow read+write of NTFS partitions, I was wondering if the choice of filesystem when I partition an external USB drive matters. The choices appear to be HFS+ vs. FAT32.
For the time being, I simply created two half-sized paritions, one of each type. :)
I plan to run various versions of Windows, and keep the VirtualBox files on the external drive.
I currently use Evernote as a catch-all storage system, note-taking app, and file transfer system.
What, if anything, would Dropbox add to my capabilities?
(If it matters, I'm an OSX/iphone/ipad user.)
We have recently installed Blackberry Express Server for our UK Blackberry users (who are on Vodafone, not sure if the network matters)
Our US users have got wind of this and are hoping we can do the same for them. (They're mostly on AT&T)
The UK & US Exchange mailboxes are based on 2 different exchange servers
So...
Q. Is it possible to support the US users with the current installation/server configuration?
I want to know what the average CPU usage is of a particular executable on my PC over a day.
I could write a C# app to do this, but it must exist out there?...
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, in case it matters!
Thanks!
How to get GVim (v. 7.3. on Windows XP, if that matters) to show Unicode characters? Something along the lines of
http://vimcasts.org/episodes/show-invisibles/
(search for listchars to see the little triangle I'm trying to get).
I'm using
set encoding,
set fileencoding,
and set fileencodings,
all to utf-8, if that helps.
I know it must be something simple, but nevertheless, here I am, stuck. Help.
I have been away from Solaris for the last 5 years. I am use to use pageup and pagedown rather than b and f.
Anyone know a simple way to make this work? My shell is /bin/tcsh ( Im QA so I cannot change this. ) if it matters
Say you have a database with heavy index fragmentation. Say this database also has a lot of free space due to frequent deletes in its data file. This free space is not contiguous.
If I rebuild all indexes to remove fragmentation and then reorganize the database pages so allocated pages and free pages are contiguous, would this cause further fragmentation in my indexes?
I guess the question can be posed as: if it matters, which should I do first, reorganize or rebuild?
I'm trying to establish a VPN connection between our Windows 2008 R2 server and a client's SonicWall device.
The problem is, I'm not entirely sure where to start. I thought I could just add it to RRAS but this doesn't appear to work (times out), I'm not entirely sure I did that right anyway.
My server is hosted on an EC2 instance if that matters.
My question then is how should I go about establishing this type of connection?

Is it possible that a modern notebook (say built in the last 5 years) contains a (onboard) sound card that it is not possible to record from?
I've always assumed that this is a very basic capability, but since I can't get it to work, I would like to check that before I put any more effort into it.
In case it matters, my notebook is an ASUS UL50VT, I'm trying with Sound Recorder and Audacity under Ubuntu, but I am, at this point, not asking for "Try that"-support or software recommendations.
I currently use Evernote as a catch-all storage system, note-taking app, and file transfer system.

I trying to create a dual boot of linux and mac without bootcamp. But I'm nervous that I'll screw up or lose my data.
In disk utilitys I made a 45gig partion called linux but I dont know how to format it and if it matters at all....
Also, when the partition is done. I press cntrl when booting up select that Linux partition and put in the livebootUSB or CD right?
I have a rather annoying issue with my Windows 7 computer whereby it seems to take ages to delete, move or copy folders, even when they are empty. The problem is intermittent, to make matters worse. It just says "Discovering items..." for anything up to a couple of minutes before eventually doing what its told.
Any suggestions on where to look to stop this happening?
I have tried disabling antivirus realtime scanning to rule that out as the root cause.
What's a good (preferably free) on-screen ruler for Windows? (Vista, if it matters.) I just need to measure a few things (in pixels) on the screen. I need it to be flexible (easily resizable and able to measure both vertically and horizontally), and hopefully not look like crap, although I can deal with that if it does what I need. A quick Google search revealed a ton of different applications, and I don't want to try every single one.
I have a dual monitor setup, and I recently played around with the positioning settings, and some of my single window applications do the favour of preserving where they were last closed, and opening in the same position later. Unfortuanately, that now places them out of the viewable area of my screens!
Is there some way to force a particular window into the viewable area? If it matters at all, this is on Windows XP 32b.
I have a Nagios server which monitors many servers, a number of the servers is used for QA matters.
I'd like to allow the QA team access to the Nagios UI and i want them to be able to view only monitors which are related to their work.
More than that, these servers which i want the QA team to monitor should be displayed for the admins group as well (as it is configured at the moment) in addition to the QA team.
Is that doable?
I know I can force it to boot into 64-bit kernel by holding down the 6 and 4 keys during the boot process. I also know that some extensions still don't run in 64-bit mode.
So the question is what might I gain by running in 64-bit mode?
If it matters, I have the brand new 2010 15" MBP with the faster processer and 8GB of RAM.
I am trying to figure out how I can connect to an ESX server's storage system so that I can upload VM image files. I am a windows user if that matters (i suspect it does).
Thanks in advance
This is a question on behalf of my friend.
His kid brother installed a password on his windows 7 home premium desktop and now he forgot. How does he get in?
Since the data is backed up into a flash drive, i suggested nuking using DBAN and reinstalling OS.
To complicate matters further, his CD drive doesn't work. In that case, what options does he have available to recover his password?
Can DBAN be run from a bootable pendrive?
