• Block all other input to an application and control it from a wrapper in Java

  I have a windows application which has a complex GUI that I would like to hide from users. In order to do this, I would like to create a wrapper with an extremely simple interface that overlays this application and automates a number of actions when a user clicks a single button on the wrapper. (I hope "wrapper" is the proper term.) Is it possible to use Java to block input to the underlying application so that users cannot inadvertently mess up the automation? How would I go about this? Also, how can I automate key presses and clicks to the application without hijacking the mouse? Is this possible in Java? I have looked at java.awt.Robot, but it appears to hijack the mouse. I have also looked at AutoIT, but it too hijacks the mouse and does not integrate with Java. Neither of these options seem powerful enough for what I need, but I do not know how else to proceed.

• Calculate angle of moving ball after collision with angled or sloped wall that is a 2D line segment

  If you have a "ball" inside a 2D polygon, made up of say, 4 line segments that act as bounding walls, how do you calculate the angle of the ball after the collision with the irregularly sloped wall? I know how to make the ball bounce if the wall is horizontal, vertical, or at a 45 degree angle. I also have my code setup to detect a collision with the wall. I've read about dot products and normals, but I cannot figure out how to implement these in Java / Android. I'm completely stumped and feel like I've looked up everything 10 pages deep in Google 10 times now. I'm burned out trying to figure this out, I hope someone can help.

• Getting the final value to this MySQL query...

  I've got my database set up with three tables - code, tags, and code_tags for tagging posts. This will be the SQL query processed when a post is submitted. Each tag is sliced up by PHP and individually inserted using these queries. INSERT IGNORE INTO tags (tag) VALUES ('$tags[1]'); SELECT tags.id FROM tags WHERE tag = '$tags[1]' ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 1; INSERT INTO code_tags (code_id, tag_id) VALUES ($codeid, WHAT_GOES_HERE?) The WHAT_GOES_HERE? value at the end is what I need to know. It needs to be the ID of the tag that the second query fetched. How can I put that ID into the third query? I hope I explained that correctly. I'll rephrase if necessary.

• Should I stick only to AWS RDS Automated Backup or DB Snapshots?

  I am using AWS RDS for MySQL. With it comes on backup, I understand that amazon provides two types of backup - automated backup and database (DB) snapshot. The difference is explain in here - http://aws.amazon.com/rds/faqs/#23. However, I am still confuse if should I stick to automated backup only or both automated and manual (db snapshots). What do you think guys? What's the setup of your own? I heard to others that automated backup is not reliable due to some unrecoverable database when the DB instance is crashed so the DB snapshots are the way to rescue you. If I will do daily DB snapshots as similar settings to automated backup, I have gonna pay much bunch of bucks. Hope anyone could enlighten me or advise me the right set up. Thanks. James

• how to populate different records in row of a Grid?

  Helo, I have a two Grid where I have to display some records from the table. The table consists of employee names ,manager names and their comments. Now on the first gird I am fetching data of employee names. Now on the second grid I have to display data of manager names and their comments. The data is on the same table. On show button of the first grid it shows all the employees. then on AdvWebGrid.ClickLink or any selected user on the first grid , i have to display the manager names and their comments on the second grid. How can I do that ? Hope my problem is clear?

• How do I implement a Google Latitude check-in feature on Windows Mobile?

  I hope this is the correct forum. I wish to write a mobile application (MVC 4 mobile app) that extends Google Latitude for Windows Mobile 7 (or version 8 when launched in November). However, according to Google's own website (see http://www.google.com/mobile/latitude/), the check-in feature is not supported on Windows Mobile. So, how would I implement such a feature (not so interested in the UI here) using the technologies that I have mentioned? EDIT The implementation needs to store check-in data against a Google Latitude account.

• C#/WPF FileSystemWatcher on every extension on every path

  I need FileSystemWatcher, that can observing same specific paths, and specific extensions. But the paths could by dozens, hundreds or maybe thousand (hope not :P), the same with extensions. The paths and ext are added by user. Creating hundreds of FileSystemWatcher it's not good idea, isn't it? So - how to do it? Is it possible to watch/observing every device (HDDs, SD flash, pendrives, etc.)? Will it be efficient? I don't think so... . Every changing Windows log file, scanning file by antyvirus program - it could realy slow down my program with SystemWatcher :(

• How to simplify my code... 2D NSArray in Objective C...?

  self.myArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [self d], [self generateMySecretObject],nil], [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [self generateMySecretObject], [self generateMySecretObject],nil],nil]; for (int k=0; k<[self.myArray count]; k++) { for(int s = 0; s<[[self.myArray objectAtIndex:k] count]; s++){ [[[self.myArray objectAtIndex:k] objectAtIndex:s] setAttribute:[self generateSecertAttribute]]; } } As you can see this is a simple 2*2 array, but it takes me lots of code to assign the NSArray in very first place, because I found that the NSArray can't assign the size at very beginning. Also, I want to set attribute one by one. I can't think of if my array change to 10*10. How long it could be. So, I hope you guys can give me some suggestions on shorten the code, and more readable. thz

• matlab constant anonymous function returns only one value instead of an array

  I've been searching the net for a couple of mornings and found nothing, hope you can help. I have an anonymous function like this f = @(x,y) [sin(2*pi*x).*cos(2*pi*y), cos(2*pi*x).*sin(2*pi*y)]; that needs to be evaluated on an array of points, something like x = 0:0.1:1; y = 0:0.1:1; w = f(x',y'); Now, in the above example everything works fine, the result w is a 11x2 matrix with in each row the correct value f(x(i), y(i)). The problem comes when I change my function to have constant values: f = @(x,y) [0, 1]; Now, even with array inputs like before, I only get out a 1x2 array like w = [0,1]; while of course I want to have the same structure as before, i.e. a 11x2 matrix. I have no idea why Matlab is doing this...

I was looking to find out using a profiler how to better optimize my code, and when sorting by which functions use up the most time cumulatively, things like str(), print, and other similar widely used functions eat up much of the profile. What is the best way to profile a python program to get the user-defined functions only to see what areas of their code they can optimize? I hope that makes sense, any light you can shed on this subject would be very appreciated.

• How to validate a form reCaptcha in MVC C#

  I have a page that contains several forms, by submitting each one of them, next form becomes visible. the last form contains a recaptcha validator, my problem starts here, if i declare an action result for that page like this [CaptchaValidator] public ActionResult myAction(SomeModel model, string lang) { return View("towing", model); } I'm getting an argument null exeption parameter "Challenge", which in fact means that you have to POST those fields from recaptcha for the validation to appear and I cannot post anyting untill the last for is visible and posted. then I've added a news ActionResult like myActionValidated, defined a route for it like: mypage/validate pointing to that actionresult and then i don't know where to go from here, i want simply do display a message if the reCaptcha did not validate and redirect to a URL if it succeeded. • Hibernate HQL to basic SQL

  Hello everybody, I working on a project with Hibernate and we need to replace Hibernate with some "home made persistence" stuff. The idea is that the project is big enough, and we have many HQL queries. The problem is with the queries like select a,b from table1, table2 on t1.table1=t2.table2 Basically all joins are not supported by our "hand made persistence" stuff. What I would need, is to be able to do some sort of transcoder, which will take as a input the HQL queries and output some SQL, but the basic SQL without joins, something like (a dumb example) select a from table1 where t1 IN ( select b from table2) I hope you get the idea. My persistence layer does not supports joins. Does anybody has any idea about something like that? Some framework, or something? Thanks alot everybody. C.C.

• Speed-up of readonly MyISAM table

  We have a large MyISAM table that is used to archive old data. This archiving is performed every month, and except from these occasions data is never written to the table. Is there anyway to "tell" MySQL that this table is read-only, so that MySQL might optimize the performance of reads from this table? I've looked at the MEMORY storage engine, but the problem is that this table is so large that it would take a large portion of the servers memory, which I don't want. Hope my question is clear enough, I'm a novice when it comes to db administration so any input or suggestions are welcome.

  Hello, I have a windows form that has a simple menu and performs a simple operation, I want to be able to create another windows form with all the functionality of a menu bar, message pump etc.. as a separate thread so I can then share the results of the operation to the second window. I.E. 1) Form A opens Form B opens as a separate thread 2)Form A performs operation 3)Form A passes results via memory to Form B 4)Form B display results I'm confused as to how to go about it, the main app runs fine but i'm not sure how to add a second window if the first one already exists. • Render asp.net repeater as-and-when chunks of html is ready (streaming)

  The problem is to render huge reports. Basically we have lots of data that get rendered in html reports (mostly using repeater or gridview). As it so happens, the data started out small and now we have tons of it. There are lots of such reports already built so total rewrite is not an option. Heck, the business is not even letting us page the data. Now server memory is shooting up each time we try to render some reports. So the question is - is there some way we can bind data to repeater and have it stream html to browser as and when chunks are ready? That way we hope to not bring all that data into app server at once. I'm thinking we'll use a datareader or something to get parts of data and render it to browser. Any pointers, links, ideas?

• Reading and writing to SysV shared memory without synchronization (use of semaphores, C/C++, Linux)

  Hi, I use SysV shared memory to let two processes communicate with each other. I do not want the code to become to complex so I wondered if I really had to use semaphores to synchronize the access to the shared memory. In my C/C++ program the parent process reads from the shared memory and the child process writes to the shared memory. I wrote two test applications to see if I could produce some kind of error like a segmentation fault, but I couldn't (Ubuntu 10.04 64bit). Even two processes writing non stop in a while loop to the same shared memory did not produce any error. I hope someone has experience concerning this matter and can tell me if I really must use semaphores to synchronize the access or if I am OK without synchronization. Thanks

• Why does my Eclipse crash all the time?

  Somehow stupid question, I have to admit - hope it won't cost me too many points. To make it clear: I would also be happy if you can help me find the reason for the crashes. I wouldn't expect a precise answer. However, I don't see why my Eclipse is crashing (freezing) all the time. Mostly when I save a file. For some reason, crashes seem to increase lately... I use Eclipse Helios (Version: 3.6.1) and java version "1.6.0_20" (OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.2) (6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu2) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)) on Ubuntu 10.10 (64-Bit).   I have used the & command before to make a script run another script in the background like so: #!/bin/bash echo "Hello World" script1.sh & script2.sh & echo "Please wait..." But lets say I have another script with an IF ELSE statment and I would like to set an ELIF statement mid flow as a background task witht the & and then carry on with processing the rest of my script knowing that while rest of the ELIF will carry running in the back ground: #!/bin/bash if cond1; then stuff sleep 10 & stuff stuff elif cond2; then something else else echo "foo" fi stuff echo "Hello World" I really hope this makes sense any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I am trying to use some rails code withing a javascript and need to have that rails code be dynamically changed. Here's the line of code: $(this).replaceWith("<%= escape_javascript(render(:partial => 'shared/products')) %>"); The 'shared/products' is the part I want to change based off information passed earlier in the javascript. How do I insert a value from javascript so that instead of 'shared/products' the products portion can be a variable? Hope this makes sense.
