  • Programatically convert complex Excel file into HTML format

    - by shuby_rocks
Hello all, I have a set of complex Excel files (with figures in it) that I want to show in a web browser. So I need to convert them into HTML page first. Since the excel files are very complex, I can not just parse them and generate a HTML table with HTML tags. The current manual solution that works fine is when I use Microsoft Excel software to save the spreadsheet as a HTML page. I want to automate this task in some way since I want to do it progrmatically through Java. Is their any existing solution or a way to do it? Thanks.

  • Recommand a Perl module to persist a large object for re-use between runs?

    - by Alnitak
I've got a large XML file, which takes 40+ seconds to parse with XML::Simple. I'd like to be able to cache the resulting parsed object so that on the next run I can just retrieve the parsed object and not reparse the whole file. I've looked at using Data::Dumper but the documentation is a bit lacking on how to store and retrieve its output from disk files. Other classes I've looked at (e.g. Cache::Cache) appear designed for storage of many small objects, not a single large one. Can anyone recommend a module designed for this?

  • How to get the innerHTML of a XML document (AJAX)?

    - by JCOC611
    After an AJAX query, a XML file is returned. I'm able to "parse" that file, but when it comes to getting the "innerHTML" (or in this case "innerXML" lol) of an element, I fail. If the XML element, let's say "content", only contained text I could do: content.childNodes[0].nodeValue (assuming that content references the XML element "content"). But that element contains other elements: <stackoverflow reason="tribute to this page"> <content> <div><span><p>Some more HTML elements</p></span></div> </content> </stackoverflow> I need to copy the content of <content> to an existing <div> in the page, how could I do that? Ex. myDiv.innerHTML = content.innerHTML;

  • Question creating PDF document in Zend Framework

    - by deaddancer
I need to take a ZF rendered view and create a PDF that should look pretty much exactly the same, and email it. The major issue I have right now is getting the HTML created by the view into a string that I can then process with the Zend_PDF::parse method. The view I need to turn into a PDF is the result of a posted form. I've tried grabbing the contents of ob_get_contents into a string after a successful post, but for some reason its not in there. Should I press on with this angle? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • How can i get the selected option name or id of a select element using jQuery

    - by bill
Hi All, i have a "questionairre" that is made up of a series of select boxes. i need to use two properties in the options. For each selected option i need the value (which i know how to get and is working fine) but i also need to store an additional value which represents the id of the specific option in a DB. One solution would be to put the two values in the "value" property and parse it out.. but if there is some other property i can use that might be easier and clearer.. can i add a custom property?? like databaseId that could be accessed with jQuery? thanks for ANY suggestions.

  • Parsing data without HMLT tags

    - by user296507
Hi, I need to extract the actual phone number form the html listed below, but I'm not really sure how to do it using Nokogiri CSS since there are no html tags around it. When an at_css(.phonetitle) it only parse Phone and not the number. <div class="detail"> <span class="address">Corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street, South Yarra</span><br> <span class="phonetitle">Phone</span> 95435 34341 <br><br> </div>

  • C# mysql one return last_insert_id

    - by Bernhard
I am trying to create a method in which I can exequte mysql UPDATE, DELETE or INSERT query. The method must work when with an INSERT I ask or do not ask the last_insert_id(). Below is the code that I have at the moment: public int executeUID(MySqlCommand msCommand) { try { this.Open(); msCommand.Connection = this.msCon; return int.Parse(msCommand.ExecuteScalar().ToString()); } catch (MySqlException ex) { throw ex; } finally { this.Close(); } } The problem with this is is that when I use an insert query that returns a last_insert_id() the method works greatly. But when the query doesn't return an last_insert_id() the method malfunctions. How can I get this method to work?

  • How to read any email account from a domain using C#?

    - by Brendan Enrick
I guess this is sort of two questions that are tied together. Related questions have discussed how to read and parse email using pop3. I need to be able to do this, however, I want this to be able to work with any email address I need. I am trying to allow users to submit content by emailing it to a unique email address, which will automatically know to which account the content should be associated. Is there a good way to create these email addresses on the fly and check these email accounts so for content submissions? Alternatively is there a way to make a "wildcard" email account which gets all of the email sent to the domain and allows me to see what the to address was?

  • Is there a way to arbitrarily load Resources at runtime in Android?

    - by Omega
I've got some XML resources in my Android app. Each one has a different name like "bicycle.xml" and "car.xml". I'd like to know if there's a way to load resources based on conditions during run time. As an example... Say I had a text input in my app. When the user enters "bicycle", my app can look up an XML resource by that name, parse and load it. Whereas if they enter "car", they would end up with the data from the other XML file. I've noticed so far that to load resources, you have to use the autogenerated "R" class, which restricts you to hard-coding resources at compile time.

  • Creating interruptible process in python

    - by Glycerine
I'm creating a python script of which parses a large (but simple) CSV. It'll take some time to process. I would like the ability to interrupt the parsing of the CSV so I can continue at a later stage. Currently I have this - of which lives in a larger class: (unfinished) Edit: I have some changed code. But the system will parse over 3 million rows. def parseData(self) reader = csv.reader(open(self.file)) for id, title, disc in reader: print "%-5s %-50s %s" % (id, title, disc) l = LegacyData() l.old_id = int(id) l.name = title l.disc_number = disc l.parsed = False l.save() This is the old code. def parseData(self): #first line start fields = self.data.next() for row in self.data: items = zip(fields, row) item = {} for (name, value) in items: item[name] = value.strip() self.save(item) Thanks guys.

  • What is the best way to pass server side variables to JavaScript on the client side?

    - by steve_c
Our application uses a lot of configuration options. Those options need to be reflected on the client side in the form of User preferences, site wide preferences, etc. Currently, we pass server side settings down to the client side in the form of JSON that is stored in custom attributes in the markup for a specific element (and no, our application currently doesn't worry about W3C validation). We then retrieve the data from the custom attribute, and parse it into a JSON object for use in script using jQuery. One drawback to this is referencing attributes on elements from within event handlers. I know this is frowned upon, as it can create circular references, and subsequently memory leaks. I would much prefer to use jQuery's data function, but you can't invoke this from the server side at page render time. What does everyone else do in this type of scenario?

  • ruby hash to object - Parsing data from JSON object

    - by Leddo
Hi all, I'm just starting to dabble in consuming a JSON webservice, and I am having a little trouble working out the best way to get to the actual data elements. I am receiving a response which has been converted into a ruby hash using the JSON.parse method. The hash looks like this: {"response"=>{"code"=>2002, "payload"=>{"topic"=>[{"name"=>"Topic Name", "url"=>"http://www.something.com/topic", "hero_image"=>{"image_id"=>"05rfbwV0Nggp8", "hero_image_id"=>"0d600BZ7MZgLJ", "hero_image_url"=>"http://img.something.com/imageserve/0d600BZ7MZgLJ/60x60.jpg"}, "type"=>"PERSON", "search_score"=>10.0, "topic_id"=>"0eG10W4e3Aapo"}]}, "message"=>"Success"}} What I would like to know, is what is the easiest way to get to the "topic" data so I can do something like: topic.name = json_resp.name topic.img = jsob_resp.hero_image_url etc Many thanks for any help you can offer. Regards Chris

  • Easy way to compute how close an auto_increment is to its maximum value?

    - by David M
So yesterday we had a table that has an auto_increment PK for a smallint that reached its maximum. We had to alter the table on an emergency basis, which is definitely not how we like to roll. Is there an easy way to report on how close each auto_increment field that we use is to its maximum? The best way I can think of is to do a SHOW CREATE TABLE statement, parse out the size of the auto-incremented column, then compare that to the AUTO_INCREMENT value for the table. On the other hand, given that the schema doesn't change very often, should I store information about the columns' maximum values and get the current AUTO_INCREMENT with SHOW TABLE STATUS?

  • Passing Session[] and Request[] to Methods in C#

    - by NYARROW
In C#, How do you pass the Session[] and Request[] objects to a method? I would like to use a method to parse out Session and Request paramaters for a .aspx page to reduce the size of my Page_Load method. I am passing quite a few variables, and need to support both POSTand GET methods. For most calls, not all variables are present, so I have to test every variable multiple ways, and the code gets long... This is what I am trying to do, but I can't seem to properly identify the Session and Request paramaters (this code will not compile, because the arrays are indexed by number) static string getParam( System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState[] Session, System.Web.HttpRequest[] Request, string id) { string rslt = ""; try { rslt = Session[id].ToString(); } catch { try { rslt = Request[id].ToString(); } catch { } } return rslt; } From Page_Load, I want to call this method as follows to retrieve the "MODE" paramater: string rslt; rslt = getParam(Session, Request, "MODE"); Thanks!

  • Local variable and Try/Catch

    - by 3D-kreativ
    I get an error, a red line below the variable intAge in the if-statement in the code. It says the variable is local, but how could it be local when it is declared in the beginning of the code? Does it have to do with the Try/Catch part? The reason why my code looks like it does, is just beacuse I have to use a Try/Catch in the code for this task. Preciate some suggestions to solve this in a similiar and correct way? Thanks! int intAge; try { intAge = int.Parse(age); } catch (Exception) { MessageBox.Show("Enter an age in numbers!","Error!"); } finally { } // Check input if (intAge < 1) { inputOk = false; errorMessage = "Please enter 1 or higher!"; }

  • Ruby on Rails: Best way to save search queries in a database

    - by Adam Templeton
For a RoR app I'm helping develop, I need to save all search queries in a database so I can analyze them later. My plan right now is to create a Result model and table, and just save each search query's text in that table, along with a user's ID, the time, etc. However, the app has about 15,000 users, so I'm afraid the single table approach won't be super efficient when it comes time to parse that data. (The database is setup via MySQL, if that factors in at all.) Am I just being paranoid? Is there a Ruby gem that handles this sort of thing, or a better approach I could take? Any input would be appreciated.

  • Is it possible to do an Ajax request for an ICS file?

    - by Kyle
I am trying to do an Ajax request for an ICS file. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I found the perfect library to parse the iCal data. Any ideas why the data comes up blank when I do this? $.ajax({ success:function(data){ alert(data); }, url:"http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=15714&cat=98&platform=osx&method=sa/Swiss32Holidays.ics" }); It makes the request fine, but the data still comes up blank.

  • Python configuration file generator

    - by Stan
I want to use Python to make a configuration file generator. My roughly idea is feeding input with template files and some XML files with the real settings. Then use the program to generate the real configuration files. I got several questions: Is there any open source configuration generator program? (what could be the keyword), I wonder if there's anything can be added/modified in the design. Does Python have good XML parser module? Is it good idea to use XML file to save the original settings? I've been thinking to use Excel since it's more intuitive to maintain, but harder for program to parse. Not sure how people deal with this. Hope the community can give me some suggestions. Thanks a lot!

  • Sending MMS into different Android devices

    - by 6istik
I need to send MMS. Into my hero this code looks ugly but works: Intent sendIntent = new Intent("android.intent.action.SEND_MSG"); sendIntent.putExtra("address", toText); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SUBJECT, "subject"); sendIntent.putExtra("sms_body", textMessage); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse(url)); sendIntent.setType("image/jpeg"); startActivity(sendIntent); But it seems to me that on the other devices it doesn't work at all. I want to send directly to main messaging app without any choices(the better solution of course - direct from my app). Because not sure that all of them would handle it properly. If anybody could recommend any third-party library I'll be appretiate.

  • Proper mechanism for sending PHP errors to the client

    - by Chris
Greetings, I was trying to discover a proper way to send captured errors or business logic exceptions to the client in an Ajax-PHP system. In my case, the browser needs to react differently depending on whether a request was successful or not. However in all the examples I've found, only a simple string is reported back to the browser in both cases. Eg: if (something worked) echo "Success!"; else echo "ERROR: that failed"; So when the browser gets back the Ajax response, the only way to know if an error occurred would be to parse the string (looking for 'error' perhaps). This seems clunky. Is there a better/proper way to send back the Ajax response & notify the browser of an error? Thank you.
