• Mobile web development - how to?

  Hello, I would like to start developing mobile-friendly versions of websites for my clients, however, I am baffled with options and google search wasn't very helpful - there is so many options and opinions, I've been reading for few days now and still have no idea how to start. What's your opinion/experience about/with it? My main points: mobile devices supported (in order of relevance): iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, Blackberry, Droid powered mobiles, other phone friendly numbers, phone friendly emails contact/register form working on each (or the most possible) devices listed jQTouch seems superb (simple, quick, working), I'm not sure about it on blackberry/droid and I don't want to create 6 web versions for each mobile device - Makes even less sense if you consider, that I'm starting with small web (6-10 pages, 1 contact form, 3 register forms) to play with. • Is looking for Wi-Fi access points purely passive?

  Say I carry a Wi-Fi enabled phone or laptop through an area where there are WAPs. Assuming that I don't actively try to connect to them or otherwise interact with them, is it possible for the owner of that WAP to know that I was there? I'm asking this in the context of my earlier question: Looking for MACs on the network I was talking with a friend about my newfound ability to detect phones (and other devices with MAC addresses) on the network, and he pointed out that it might be useful to detect unknown phones on the network; I could use that data to track down anyone who was in my house and brought a Wi-Fi phone with them. So, if I set up a logging fake WAP with no security or encryption, can I glean any useful information about the devices that come into the house? Assuming that the thief doesn't actively try to connect...

  I have a table of phone numbers, storing the phone number as varchar(20). I have a requirement to implement searching of both entire numbers, but also on only the last part of the number, so a typical query will be: SELECT * FROM PhoneNumbers WHERE Number LIKE '%1234' How can I put an index on the Number column to make those searchs efficient? Is there a way to create an index that sorts the records on the reversed string? Another option might be to reverse the numbers before storing them, which will give queries like: SELECT * FROM PhoneNumbers WHERE ReverseNumber LIKE '4321%' However that will require all users of the database to always reverse the string. It might be solved by storing both the normal and reversed number and having the reversed number being updated by a trigger on insert/update. But that kind of solution is not very elegant. Any other suggestions?

• Openning an App on click of link in email in android?

  I have a strange requirement for my project.. Suppose I have an app say XYZ installed in an android phone and than I receive an email from the mail server which contains a link like http://XYZ.com/?params(i.e. X=1&Y=2&Z=3) now on click of this link I want to open the XYZ app if it is installed in the phone and in the Activity I would like to get these parameters X,Y and Z and if the app is not installed user should be redirected to play store for downloading XYZ app and after installation app takes charge and behaves as if it was already installed (Opening the first activity with those parameters). How can I achieve that ? I have no idea where to start so even the smallest pointer in right direction will be of great help.

• Jquery Validation Central Message Many Errors

  Hi everyone, I have a form that is being valdated with the Jquery Validation Plugin. I have managed to get a centeral message "Please Recheck the form", and to have the input focus on the first error. To get this, I had to override the default message of each of the errors. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how I can have it display the error message associated with the first error input instead of a general error message. • Can I read a smartcard in a virtual machine?

  My employer requires a smartcard to login to their web-based remote working platform. I want to access this platform by using a Remote Desktop Connection on to my Windows 7 Virtual Machine, with the smartcard plugged into my home PC. However, whilst I can see the smartcard on my home PC, it doesn't appear in the virtual machine, despite me having "Smart Cards" enabled in the Local Resources page of Remote Desktop Connection. Is it possible to get this working?

  Hi! I am writing an application using Objective C and I want to access the iPhone favorites numbers (the ones that can be found in the "Phone" application). I've searched among the properties specific to each contact from the Address Book and I even had a look at the Address Book database, but I couldn't identify which property or field from the database indicates which are the favorite numbers. Since "Phone" is an application installed by Apple on the iPhone I was expecting to find such a property in the database. However, I think that it might be possible that this application stores the favorite numbers independently of the Address Book database. Has anyone encountered this problem before and if yes, could you please clarify this matter for me? Thanks a lot! Cipri

This is the code to make it fading out: $('#block-block-1').mouseout(function() { $(this).css("display","none"); }); The issue here is that the 'mouseout' event is triggered when the mouse is over the children elements inside my div. And the parent disappears even if the mouse is still inside it.

  I was just going through some all-in-one desktop PCs (Dell Studio One, HP Touch Smart, Lenovo IdeaCenter, etc.) and their specs really look good (4 GB RAM, 2.x GHz Core 2 Duo, etc.) Are there any disadvantages of such PCs as a developer machine? I mostly do Java (Eclipse + MySQL + Tomcat / JBoss) or .NET (Visual Studio + MsSQL) development. Edit: One common question I could see is harddrive size and that's around 320 GB 7200 RPM.

Before I start to develop I've to know if there's any objects that my touch screen display can recognize? Which device can be recognizable by a smartphone display? • Can't install APK hosted my own apache server

  I've exported an apk from eclipse. I am able to install it without any problem if I copy it to the phone's sd card. When trying to download via phone's (Galaxy S) browser I get: "Download unsuccessful". I have set mime type application/vnd.android.package-archive in the mime.types, restarted apache, still same result. Also tried : <a href="downloads/my_apk.apk" type="application/vnd.android.package-archive">Download App</a> Still no luck. I am able to download and install applications from android market. I suspect that apache is not sending the mime type but this is just a shot in the dark. How can I fix the problem and be able to install APKs from my web server? (or at least to check if apache sends correct header with mime type) Any help will be appreciated.

  This is an phone interview question: "Find the number of inversions in an array". I guess they mean O(N*log N) solution since O(N^2) is trivial. I guess it cannot be better than O(N*log N) since sorting is O(N*log N) I have checked a similar question from SO and can summarize the answers as follows: Calculate half the distance the elements should be moved to sort the array : copy the array and sort the copy. For each element of the original array a[i] find it's position j in the sorted copy (binary search) and sum abs(i - j)/2. Modify merge sort : modify merge to count inversions between two sorted arrays (it takes O(N)) and run merge sort with the modified merge. Does it make sense ? Are there other (maybe simpler) solution ? Isn't it too hard for a phone interview ?

  I have created a php webpage. I now want to create a launcher application in android phone, it simply opens the browser with the url "http://<mywebsite>/m". I use uri intent to launch the browser in onCreate function. public void onCreate(...) { .... startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, new Uri(http://<mywebsite>/m))); ... } I execute this program in my G1 phone (Cyan Mod 5). However, when I click the "Home" key, and then re-enter my application through Task list, I lose focus for my last started browser, and the screen blank Any suggestion?! Should I need any code in onResume function to re-focus my web!?

I am talking about query with linq for Database tables.I understand what Join and GroupJoin does but I really couldn't understand where i will need it.I feel that Join does all what i will need but if there is something which Join can't without GroupJoin so i feel that situation is meaningless or useless. For example: Persons table in relation with Phones and Phones table hold foreign keys of Persons and one person can have one more phone number.If we want to brings all persons who has phone numbers and who hasn't too so we will need GroupJOin but what for we will need this query ? • How do you enable Dialer and Mobile Data Settings?

  I have a rockchip based Android tv box with heavily modified firmware. The box does not support 3g by default and I am trying to get the mobile data connection to work. I have understood that the Phone.apk and telephony provider apk has to be installed to /system/app. The logs report that the mobile data is enabled and the the phone service is running. However there is no mobile data in Settings and the Dialer app is not shown in launcher application list. What prevents them from showing up ?

• Android browser javascript events when minimised

  I'm building a webapp for Android smartphones that runs with the OS internet browser. the main interface is to input datas. the data is added to a queue (android 1.5: gears, android 2.x: html5). Each 5 minutes (using setTimeout), the script looks if an internet connection is active, and if so, sends all the queue to the server. If the phone is plugged on the wall and the webpage is ontop, the timeout works. if the browser is minimized or another application runs on top of it, the timeout doesn't work. if the phone is in sleep mode it doesn't work either. can only native apps runs in background?
