• Can't resolve "UnauthorizedAccessException" with MVC 2 application running under IIS7

  We use MVC controllers that access System.File.IO in our application and they work fine in localhost (IIS 6.0-based Cassini). Deploying to IIS7, we have problems getting the controllers to work because they throw UnauthorizedAccessExceptions. We have done the following to try to resolve the issue: - Set NETWORK SERVICE and IUSR accounts to have permission on the files and folders in question - Ensured the App Pool is running under NETWORK SERVICE and loading the user profile - Application is running under full trust - We tried adding impersonation to web.config and giving NETWORK SERVICE write permissions Now, we alternate between getting UnauthorizedAccessException and an IIS7 404 page that suggests the routes are being ignored completely (for example we serve "/favicon.ico" via a controller when the physical file actually lives at /content/images/favicon.ico). We used ProcessMonitor to try to track down the issue but weren't successful.

• Best practices for large solutions in Visual Studio (2008)

  We have a solution with around 100+ projects, most of them C#. Naturally, it takes a long time to both open and build, so I am looking for best practices for such beasts. Along the lines of questions I am hoping to get answers to, are: how do you best handle references between projects should "copy local" be on or off? should every project build to its own folder, or should they all build to the same output folder(they are all part of the same application) are solutions folders a good way of organizing stuff? I know that splitting the solution up into multiple smaller solutions is an option, but that comes with its own set of refactoring and building headaches, so perhaps we can save that for a separate thread :-)

  Hi there, When designing a HTML template in my favorite editor (TextPad at the moment) I can view my code in a browser by pressing F11 or the appropriate toolbar button. I have my common css rules in a separate file so my HTML contains the code: <link rel="stylesheet" href="commoncss.css" type="text/css"> This works when the .css file is in the same folder as the .html file, or if I fully path the .css file in the href property, eg. ///c:/mycssfolder/commoncss.css However, in a 'live' situation I want the .css file to reside in a common folder which is accessible from a number of .html files (eg. href='css/commoncss.css', where the css folder is configured at web-server level). How can I achieve this design vs. live dilemma without copying css file to all .html folders (and all the maintenance headaches that comes with it)? I am using Python 3.1 with Jinja2, but I guess this problem is applicable across any language and template-engine. Any help would be appreciated. Alan

• Why aren't APT generated classes being compiled by Eclipse?

  In my Eclipse project I'm using a third-party annotation processor, Hibernate Metamodel Generator to be exact. The annotation processor works as expected and generates files as specified by the spec. These files are generated inside the directory of the Eclipse project under a "gen" folder. In the project properties this is correctly reflected since two source folders exist - "src" and "gen." However, when the project is built for some reason all the [generated] sources under "gen" are not compiled (checking the "bin" directory I only see .class file from the "src" directory). Does anyone know why this is happening?

  I have a multi-user software solution (containing different applications, i.e. EXEs) that should allow only a limited number of concurrent users. It's designed to run in an intranet. I dont have a really good, satisfactory solution to the problem of counting the client licenses yet. The key requirements are: Multiple instances (starts) of the same application (= process) should count as only one client licence Starting different applications of the software solution should also count as only one (the same) client licence Application crash should not lead to orphaned used licences The above should work also for Terminal Server environments (all clients same IP, but different install folders) I'm looking for estabilished patterns, solutions, tips for managing used client licenses. • Using DotNetZip Library unzip file with non ASCII characters

  I'm trying to unzip a file, using DotNetZip Library. The file contains folders and files with danish characters (æøåÆØÅ). TotalCommander, 7Zip, Windows own zip all extract the files correctly, but DotNetZip Library mangles the danish characters. Ex: File_æøåÆØÅ.txt becomes File_æ¢åÆ¥Å.txt insted of aø it contains a ¢. insted of a Ø it contains a ¥. Code: using (var zipFile = ZipFile.Read(@"File_æøåÆØÅ.zip")) { zipFile.ExtractAll(@"File_æøåÆØÅ", ExtractExistingFileAction.OverwriteSilently); } I'm using the default encoding("da-DK" culture), I have tried other encodings like UTF8 etc. How can I unzip a file containing filenames with Danish characters?

• Using VB6 + WSH with Windows Compression

  Having trouble with WSH and Windows Compression. My goal is to be able to zip up files (not folders, but individual files from various locations, which I have stored in an array) using the built-in Windows Compression. I am using VB6. Here is my routine (vb6 code): Dim objShell Dim objFolder Set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application") Set objFolder = objShell.namespace(savePath & "\export.zip") ' -- ' loop through array holding files to zip For i = 0 To filePointer objFolder.CopyHere (filesToZip(i)) Next ' -- Set objShell = Nothing Set objFolder = Nothing It works, but issues arise when there are more than a few files. I start getting errors from Windows (presumably, its calling the compression too fast, and the zip file is locked).   I thought I had an answer to this, but the more I play with it, the more I see it as a design flaw of Powershell. I would like to drag and drop (or use the Send-To mechanism) to pass multiple files and/or folders as a array to a Powershell script. The files come across as individual parameters which first match the script parameters positionally, with the remainder being placed in the $args array. Wrapper Script #TestWrapper.ps1 & .\Test.ps1 -Paths $args Shortcut Attempt 2 powershell.exe -noprofile -noexit -file c:\TestWrapper.ps1 Has anyone found a way to do this without the extra script?

  I am looking at creating an MSI that will check/install the prerequisites of SQL Server 2008 and after the prerequisites are installed I will start my slipstream 2008 install. I am currently trying to do this through VS 2008 Deployment Projects, but I cannot just simple add the folders of the SQL slipstream into the setup project without recreating the entire folder structure of the SQL install. So my questions are: Is this a possible to do through Deployment Projects? (if yes, please assist with links or help) Is there a better way to do this? (I would prefer not to use WISE)

• Advanced Array Sorting in Ruby

  I'm currently working on a project in ruby, and I hit a wall on how I should proceed. In the project I'm using Dir.glob to search a directory and all of its subdirectories for certain file types and placing them into an arrays. The type of files I'm working with all have the same file name and are differentiated by their extensions. For example, txt_files = Dir.glob("**/*.txt") doc_files = Dir.glob("**/*.doc") rtf_files = Dir.glob("**/*.rtf") Would return something similar to, FILECON.txt ASSORTED.txt FIRST.txt FILECON.doc ASSORTED.doc FIRST.doc FILECON.rtf ASSORTED.rtf FIRST.rtf So, the question I have is how I could break down these arrays efficiently (dealing with thousands of files) and placing all files with the same filename into an array. The new array would look like, FILECON.txt FILECON.doc FILECON.rtf ASSORTED.txt ASSORTED.doc ASSORTED.rtf etc. etc. I'm not even sure if glob would be the correct way to do this (all the files with the same file name are in the same folders). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  Hi! Is there a Delphi-5 solution to easily integrate single-file storage into existing code? I would like to have files like Java *.jar or Openoffice document files which are zipped/compressed files and folders but with their own file extension. Edit: I know some ZIP capable components but in a nutshell I want to access files within the "container" and use normal file handling routines on them (eg. TStringList.SaveToFile). Any overhead about compress/uncompress should be handled by the component.

I'm just trying to isolate the files in a directory, but the -d operator keeps treating all the folder contents as files ... @contents is my array, and when I run this: foreach $item(@contents) { if (-d $item) { next; } print"$item is a file\n"; } I keep getting both folders and files.   Installshield 2009 Premier Basic MSI: When I uninstall there is a Message Box saying that explorer has to be closed: [Title] My-Product-Name [List] Explorer [radio button 1, Selected by default] Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete [radio button 2] Do not close applications. (A Reboot will be required) [Ok Button] [Cancel Button] If I click OK [with radio button 1 selected] all opened folders are closed !!! How to get rid of this, I don't want any warning message box to show and not close explorer either? More info: I have a dll which is used to show explorer context menu with icons when we right click on any file/folder. This dll is registered during installation and unregistered during uninstall. When we uninstall WinRAR we don't see any such messages, do we?

  I've got a folder of images which is reaching a critical mass after a few years. I want to move images into alphabetical folders, so that /img/foo.jpg goes into /img/f/foo.jpg and /img/bar.jpg goes into /img/b/bar.jpg and so on. In order to make the transition smooth, and to allow the manual uploaders to put stuff into the top level, I'd like to use mod_rewrite to do this: if /img/foo.jpg exists, serve it up, if not look for it in /img/f/foo.jpg thanks for any suggestions. For the record, no, I don't think we need to go /img/f/fo/foo.jpg just yet.

  HI, I'm completely new to Bash and StackOverflow. I need to move a set of files (all contained in the same folder) to a target folder where files with the same name could already exist. In case a specific file exists, I need to rename the file before moving it, by appending for example an incremental integer to the file name. The extensions should be preserved. The file names could contain dots in the middle. Originally, I was thinking about comparing the two folders to have a list of the existing files (I did this with "comm"), but then I got a bit stuck. I think I'm just trying to do things in the most complicated possible way. Any hint to do this in the "bash way"?

• How to split a path platform independent?

  I'm using the following code to get an array with all sub directories from a given path. String[] subDirs = path.split(File.separator); I need the array to check if certain folders are at the right place in this path. This looked like a good solution until findBugs complains that File.separator is used as a regular expression. It seems that passing the windows file separator to a function that is building a regex from it is a bad idea because the backslash being an escape character. How can I split the path in a cross platform way without using File.separator? Or is code like this okay? String[] subDirs = path.split("/");

I can not use the in built TreeView in ASP.NET as i need to point the target of the selection to another frame (I have tried, and this doesn't seem possible).   How do people generally deal with TFS when you've got to work with multiple solution files? If you've got one instance it's easy because you can always go to that window for the source control explorer, pending changes, check on builds or work items. But when you have 4-5 solutions, it becomes tricky to deal with. You might expand some folders or check some pending items on one VS instance but you have to remember which one you did it on. Having a separate instance dedicated just to TFS tasks is tempting, but there's only one window state for the whole program. If that instance is closed last, all instances will come up with all the TFS windows open. How do other people deal with this? Can you use separate profiles somehow and cordon off a "TFS" instance of Visual Studio?

  I'm trying to change a namespace in Visual Studio. My folder structure looks something like this: GameAlpha/ GameAlpha.sln GameAlphaRelease/ GameAlphaTest/ GameAlphaLevelEditor/ These include namespaces like GameAlphaRelease. I want to change all this to GameBetaRelease. Before this process, it built fine. First, I changed the solution and project files from Alpha to Beta. Then, I did a "find-replace-all" on the namespace. Finally, I went through the properties of each project and changed the "Assembly Name" and "Default Namespace" to the appropriate Beta title. However, now the solution does not build. The error is: GameAlpha.accessor: The reference to 'GameAlpha.exe' was not found in the list of this projects references. (Project: GameBetaTest) What am I doing wrong? If I remove project GameBetaTest, the solution builds just fine. Also, what is the preferable way to change the names of the folders in the file system?

• Reading iTunesMovies file in iPhone?

  Hi there. In iPhone, the iPod app saves the media files (audio, video) with strange names and in weird folders (F00,F01 etc). There is a file named iTunesMovies in iPhone, which contains all the information about the metadata of those video files and how they are to be displayed in iPod app. I copied that to my Mac also, and when i tried to open that file in textEdit, it showed some alien characters which made me believe that it is encrypted may be(Thats just a wild guess). I want to read/change the contents of that iTunesMovies file. Can i do that? Is there any Framework which deals with that iTunesMovies file? Thanks in advance

  I've been testing Hudson for a few days now and for PHP projects it seems ok; What I need though is a system that will allow me to publish an SVN tag to an FTP folder without adding a pile of rubbish on the end; hudson gets overexcited and adds a pile of folders to the export. Are their any other decent systems; it needs to be simple to use as this will eventually fall under the control of 'admins' in order to meet sox compliance (aka the man with the gun cant pull the trigger).   I have been trying to integrate GSL (Gnu Scientific Library) into an iPhone project using Xcode. The challenge is GSL has all the modules in different folders, yet when their header files are reference, they often reference instead of or . At least with I could use Xcode's recursive header file search to find it. But with , basically file not found. Does anyone have an easy way to address the hierarchical GSL structure to compile into Xcode? I can do it the tedious way of fixing all the #INCLUDE lines but hoping there is a better alternative. This way, I can more easily update GSL when changes are made by the community. NOTE: I found Xcode needs to find the right header file locations (make sure to adjust your TARGET Build settings, not just your Project Build settings).
