  • Losing connection when watching flash videos

    Whenever I play a flash video on my browser (whichever I use, Chrome, Firefox or IE), there's a risk that I lose my Internet connection. I know it's limited to my computer only as my roommates are unaffected. I'm the only one that loses connection. Using Internet Explorer's diagnosis tool always repairs the connection, but it's annoying as hell. My OS is Windows XP, if that matters. Anyone knows what may be causing this and how to fix it?

  • Which ports to open on domain vs internet

    I have a web server/database/domainController. I notice that ports 137 and 138 on the public IP AND private IP are open on all machines there are also other open ports on 0.0.0.0.(ie. 135, 2002) Can and should I close 137-139 on the public IP only? will that interfere with any services.

  • Colorizing your terminal and shell environment?

    I spend most of my time working in Unix environments and using Terminal emulators. I try to use color on the commandline, because color makes the output more useful and intuitive. What are some good ways to add color to my terminal environment? What tricks do you do? What pitfals have you encountered? Unfortunately, support for color is wildly variable depending on terminal type, OS, TERM setting, utility, buggy implementations, etc. Here's what I do currently, after alot of experimentation: I tend to set 'TERM=xterm-color', which is supported on most hosts (but not all). I work on a number of different hosts, different OS versions, etc. I'm trying to keep things simple and generic, if possible. Many OSs set things like 'dircolors' and by default, and I don't want to modify this everywhere. So I try to stick with the defaults. Instead tweak my Terminal's color configuration. Use color for some unix commands (ls, grep, less, vim) and the Bash prompt. These commands seem to the standard "ANSI escape sequences" I've managed to find some settings which are widely supported, and which don't print gobbledygook characters in older environments (even FreeBSD4!) (For the most part). If I set up the expire http header of a css file to 1 year, if I modify that file, will it be ignored by the browser (ie, it will not request the new version)? Given that Rails adds a different timestamps to each asset such as foo.css?1270165626 every time I restart the server?   • Forcing IE8 Standards Mode with FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

    I'm doing this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2009/03/10/more-ie8-extensibility-improvements.aspx But it's not working. I have "iexplore.exe" set to 8888 (decimal mode) under MACHINE, but it's still coming up documentMode = 5. I thought 8888 was suppose to force IE8 Standards Mode whether you have a doctype or not. What is going on?

I have SCVMM linked to the host and thats working good, and have configured the scvmm on the lab management tab on TFS. My question is, how can you take/roll back snapshots automatically? ie install base take snapshot install patch run tests take snapshot go back to snapshot taken at step 2 Thanks in advance.

  • Enabling RSA Toolbar in IE8

    OS - Win7 Utlimate 64 bit I have installed the RSA security toolbar used to VPN into my corporate network. I can see that RSA Toolbar is enabled in the Manage Add-Ons window. However I do not see the toolbar when I right-click in the toolbar section in IE. The add-on manger says that the toolbar is loaded but I cant get it to show in the toolbars section Any ideas? TIA

    Apache is returning rare intermittent 400 "bad request header field is missing ':' olhuaqv3o1t29flvr0 (random string)" errors. This seems to be related to https access and happens from Firefox, IE, Chrome etc. I am using a certificate from rapidssl. Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) DAV/2 SVN/1.6.6 mod_jk/1.2.28 PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8k Anyone know how to fix this?

  • How to replicate wwwroot over multiple IIS web servers with NLB without NAS?

    We're adding a second server with Windows NLB for a bit of redundancy (ie the power goes on one of the servers - I know its not the best solution). How can we keep the data identical between the servers? Dont want to use a SAN or NAS as thats just something else to go wrong. Customers can upload images with the web app so changes could be made on either server, as well as us uploaded a few changed files. Thanks

  • How can I unbind a UDP port that has no entry in lsof?

    On my Mac, I have a UDP port that is "already in use", but doesn't have an associated process: sudo netstat -na | grep "udp.*\.500\>" shows udp4 0 0 192.168.50.181.500 *.* udp4 0 0 192.168.29.166.500 *.* sudo lsof doesn't show a process on port 500 (ie sudo lsof -i:500 -P reports nothing). Note I'm using 'sudo' on both commands so it should show all processes. (rebooting works, but looking for something less disruptive) How can I unbind port 500 so I can use it again?

  • VPN Router drops connections

    We are using a Netgear VPN Firewall Router FVS318v3.. We have a DSL connection here at the office, and my users complain of the connection dropping, or locking up on their end.. Latest firmware is installed, rebooting the router doesn't help, no other internet connectivity issues reported anywhere else (ie., no other internet connection problems here, or at their end, except when connecting to the VPN..) Is there anything else I can check to pinpoint this problem? TIA!!!

So I started looking in the Internet Options to see if I could change it, but I couldn't find the right option. There's no clear way to add Google from this screen and when I clicked: Find more search providers..., you get taken to IE Gallery where Google isn't even listed. So how do I change my Internet Explorer 10 search engine to Google?

  • Windows powering off after "preparing your desktop" stage.

    Windows 7 64 bit. The only recent change was I installed two updates for MS Office, and a cumulative security update for IE. As soon as I choose a user and login, after loading my user profile it states the preparing your desktop message, and then powers off. I have used DaRT to check the event log, but nothing is recorded. Ideas?

I'm wondering what is meant by the "Windows Internet Explorer 7/8 Dynamic Installer" category under "Under Products And Classifications"? Will this allow me to push out updates for IE 7/8 or will it also push out upgrades from IE6 or IE7 to IE7 or IE8. We're running IE7 at the moment, and want to avoid upgrading to IE8 at this point in time.

I'm a huge fan of the Smarter Mail, and will pay if it's the best I can get... But I have been learning that there is some good stuff out there in the Open Source community (IE: I've started using PFSense and I love it). Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Unable to access certain websites from a computer

    One of the desktop computers in my office is unable to access some particular websites. We've tried from Chrome, IE, Firefox, but no luck. eg: http://spsims.wto.org/ -> click on "Regular notifications" On the affected computer, every browser times out after the click. Whereas it should redirect the user to http://spsims.wto.org/web/pages/search/notification/regular/Search.aspx How can I diagnose this further? This is a Windows XP machine.

    So, I am trying to learn java. I installed the JDK and proceeded to write a few programs. Each time, I have to give the path to javac.exe to compile the .java file. SO, I decided to tweak the %PATH% variable. And no matter what I change it to, it doesn't work. when I do an echo %PATH%, I get 'Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.     I've configured external access to some sharepoint applications, including MySites, using AAM and ISA configuration. Every seems working well, but when using the external access (ie via https), some links are not working because they use the internal name (http://mysite) instead of the FQDN via https (https://mysite.mydomain.fr*) Any hint or suggestion are welcome. *yes, i'm french. =) EDIT : examples of links that are not working : - when clicking on a folder in a library - when clicking on "My links" then "My sharepoint sites" and then clicking on one of the links displayed
