  • "apt-get --print-uris" to list URI for downloading extra functionality package for amarok,reqonk

    Hello I do not have internet connection at my home. So i use "apt-get --print-uris" to list the http's and take it to other PC with internet connection and use wget to download them. I am facing difficulty about how to list the http's that amarok will download from for the extra functionality (like mp3 codecs). KDE deamon is showing me that these packages are needed for extra functionality of amarok but i don't know how to list their http's. "apt-get --print-uris upgrade" does not list http's need for amarok/reqonk.

  • Passenger package not found after adding phusion repo Ubuntu 12.04

    I'm trying to install the official Passenger (and Nginx) packages from Phusion on an Ubuntu 12.04.3 server. I have the following in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/passenger: deb https://oss-binaries.phusionpassenger.com/apt/passenger precise main Even after running apt-get update there is no passenger package found by apt. I did verify that the package info appears in /var/lib/apt/lists/oss-binaries.phusionpassenger.com_apt_passenger_dists_precise_main_binary-amd64_Packages but at this point I'm at a loss as to why the package isn't available via apt-get. There are some packages (libapache2-mod-passenger, passenger-docs) that are available. These packages seem to also exist in universe, but apt-cache show lists both locations.

  • Problem with APTonCD application

    I created a iso image using aptoncd & burned it to a dvd. now when i tried to restore, the program does not detect the dvd in the drive. It shows "Please insert a disc in the drive." and if we click "ok" it shows "E: Failed to mount the cdrom.". The dvd is in the drive itself. When I submit it to launchpad though, it sent me a log which has this error: ERROR: Python module tweepy not found. I found a ppa python-tweepy on launchpad. So how do I fix this error.   • What should I do when the GETDEB repository is down?

    I'm trying to install programs/files from the getdeb repo but get a "check your internet connection" error. Programs than I've tried include Qbittorrent and Mozilla-Plugin-VLC.     I have made a backup of my entire computer and I reinstalled the OS right now. I know I should have listed dpkg -l to obtain a list of packages, but I have not done so. I only made a tarball of the entire disk. I wonder how I can find a list of packages based on this data. I would like to have the same packages installed that I had on my previous set-up. But there seems no longer a way to gain a list of packages, since I already reinstalled Ubuntu on the computer and only have the tarball back-up.

    I've been using dpkg -S <package_name> to list the contents of a package. Sometimes I pipe to grep bin to quickly scan for executables. I just ran into a case where this didn't work out for me: $ which virtualenv $ sudo apt-get install python-virtualenv Reading package lists... Done ... Setting up python-virtualenv (1.7.1.2-1) ... $ which virtualenv /usr/bin/virtualenv $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/virtualenv python-virtualenv: /usr/bin/virtualenv $ dpkg -S python-virtualenv | grep bin $ /usr/bin/virtualenv seems to be provided by python-virtualenv, but isn't listed in the package contents provided by dpkg -S. All the while, passing /usr/bin/virtualenv to dpkg -S returns that the file comes from python-virtualenv. Can you all explain this?

  • Why can't I get into my repositories?

    Upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 by mistake and am having problems with some of my programs. They either don't work or they disappear from view on the screen. The Repositories menu item in Synaptic Packages Manager is a case in point. The computer does nothing when I choose this item. I am locked out of unless I edit /etc/apt/sources.list. The rest of the application seems to work, however. Update Manager just flashes on screen then disappears without doing, as does Printing. How do I downgrade from a higher to a lower level repository? I need to downgrade from 10.10 to 10.04. Each time Ubuntu upgrades to 10.10 evil things happen and the operating system really gets messed up. I really do not want to have to erase and install my operating system all over again if I can help it.

    Many questions are answered simply with add this repository and install. I understand that Ubuntu developers cannot quickly verify all packages and make them available in official repositories. But is there an unofficial main repository or software center where developers can register their PPAs? Adding individual repositories is a pain and the update also takes longer as it has to check all the PPAs. Like we have alternative markets for android, it would be great if there are any popular alternative software sources that we can reasonably trust.

    Hi everyone, While experiencing some massive problems with MYSQL, I completely removed a package called rsyslog, and I can no longer get on the internet to use the package manager to correct my mistake. I also got rid of librdf0 as well (oops). I would like to download the missing packages onto a CD with another computer, and manually reinstall them on my Ubuntu platform. Any ideas where to find these? (I am assuming this is the package I need. Either way, I still need to get access to the correct packages and install them). Thank you all very much in advance. Matt
