• AuthenticationType Negotiate vs NTLM

  I have the same code base used on 2 different sites hosted on the same server (IIS 7.5). For some reason, when I check the Identity.AuthenticationType property on the code behind of an http handler I see NTLM for 1 site and Negotiate for the other. This is causing some problems and I need both of them to use NTLM. Could you help me to figure out why this difference? So far I see both IIS sites are configured on the same way but of course there is at least 1 difference that I couldn't detect. Thanks!

• How does jQuery .data() work?

  My Javascript knowledge is pretty limited. Instead of asking several javascript questions I got the "message" from Stack overflow and started using jQuery right away in order to save me some time. However several times I do not undestand the "magic" behind jQuery and I would love to learn the details. I want to use .data() in my application. The examples are very helpful. I do not understand however WHERE these values are stored. I inspect the webpage with Firebug and as soon as .data() saves an object to a dom element, I do not see any change in Firebug (either HTML or Dom tabs). I tried to look at jQuery source, but it is very advanced for my Javascript knowledge and I lost myself. So the question is: Where do the values stored by jQuery.data() actually go? Can I inspect/locate/list/debug them using a tool?

• Infopath form publishing and root content type ?

  Hi, I have several infopath 2010 form template that I want to publish to a form library in SharePoint 2010 Server with enterprise CaL. All of this forms have a common part (a template part actually). Is it possible to define a common "parent" content type of this forms ? In fact, I want : Form content type (SP OOB) My root form content type, with standard columns "requester", "process name", etc. Form 1 Form 2 etc. other unrelated form 1 other unrelated form 2 Instead of the standard behavior : Form content type (SP OOB) Form 1 Form 2 other unrelated form 1 other unrelated form 2 etc. Behind this question I want to be able to create a dashboard of all form request using a content query web, by simply specifying the content type ... One last word: the idea is to allow a customer (assuming its knowledge is limited to IP 2010 basic form design). So I can't accept answers like "extract files, use a text editor and hack the xsf file"... thx in advance

• Distributed, persistent cache using EHCache

  I currently have a distributed cache using EHCache via RMI that works just fine. I was wondering if you can include persistence with the caches to create a distributed, persistent cache. Alongside this, if the cache was persistent, would it load from the file store, then bootstrap from the cache cluster? Basically, what I want is: Cache starts Cache loads persistent objects from the file store Cache joins the distruted cluster and bootstraps as normal The usecase behind this is having 2 identical components running on independent machines, distributing the cache to avoid losing data in the event that one of the components fails. The persistence would guard against losing all data on the rare occasion that both components fail. Would moving to another distribution method (such as Terracotta) support this?

• problem with pagestate when two links in aspx page

  I have two links in my aspx page. one link "A" when i click it ...it is downloading some document when i click it other link "B" when I click it ....it redirects me to some other page. Both links triggers function from code behind. Both links works fine when i first come onto page but when i click A it shows me message to download it "open" "save" "cancel" problem is when i click cancel I remain on the same page but now no links work neither link A nor link B. I guess there is some problem with the state my page is in . How i can avoid this?   Hi all, could someone explain me what's the idea behind using Auto-Implemented Properties c#? public class Customer { public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } I get the motivation to use properties for private field, so we can determine how one can access a private field. But here - it's just like defining the field to be public from the first place. no? Is there a difference between defining a field to be "public const" or define it to have a get-only property ? Turns out my teamleader has been skilling up the indians behind my back even though I've been spending time and effort preparing a formal handover (to describe the design decisions and why). It just breeds lack of trust and sends the wrong message about the value of my work. Now I'm too furious to even talk to anyone. Do I sit in silence for the next 3 weeks waiting for my transfer?

I'm looking for a high-throughput method for a backend app that handles many small transactions. I use SQLDataReader for most of the returns since forward only works in most cases for me. I've seen it done many ways, and used most of them myself. Methods that define and accept the stored procedure parameters as parameters themselves and build using cmd.Parameters.Add (with or without specifying the DB value type and/or length) Assembling your SP params and their values into an array or hashtable, then passing to a more abstract method that parses the collection and then runs cmd.Parameters.Add Classes that represent tables, initializing the class upon need, setting the public properties that represent the table fields, and calling methods like Save, Load, etc I'm sure there are others I've seen but can't think of at the moment as well. I'm open to all suggestions.

• Where should I put WPF specific code when using MVVM?

  I'm just getting up to speed on MVVM, but all the examples I've seen so far are binding View controls to simple non-WPF specific data types such as strings and ints. However in our app I want to be able to set a button's border brush based on a number in the Model. At the moment, I translate the number into a brush in the ViewModel to keep the View XAML only, but is that right? I don't like putting WPF specific code in the ViewModel, but equally I don't like the idea of putting code-behind on my View panel. Which is the best way? Thanks

  We are deploying web applications in java using tomcat on client machines across the country. Once they are installed, we want to allow a remote access to these web applications through a central server, but we do not want our clients to have to open ports on their routers. Is there a way to tunnel the http traffic in a way that the central server can access the web application that is behind the firewall ? The central server has a static ip address and we have full control over it. We don't need to access the filesystem, we only want to access the web application itself through a browser.

  A SELECT without a FROM clause gets us a multiple columns without querying a table: SELECT 17+23, REPLACE('bannanna', 'nn', 'n'), RAND(), CURRENT_TIMESTAMP; How can we write a query that results in multiple rows without referring to a table? Basically, abuse SELECT to turn it into a data definition statement. The result could have a single column or multiple columns. I'm most interested in a DBMS neutral answer, but others (e.g. based on UNPIVOT) are welcome. There's no technique application behind this question; it's more theoretical than practical.

• Making "helper" windows in WPF

  I'm writing an app in WPF and want to make a "helper" window. The window needs to be resizable, with no minimize option and doesn't show in the taskbar. If the app receives focus, it should appear as well, but whether or not it's in front or behind the main window should be retained. When the main window is closed, it should close along with the app. An example is a detached pane in Visual Studio. I've made the helper windows not appear in the taskbar, but can't get the rest of the behaviors I want. If they're their own windows, they don't get focus along with the rest of the app. If I specify a the main window as their owner, the main window can't be on top of the helper window. Anyone know a good way to approach this?

• How to create a custom ADO Multi Demensional Catalog with no database

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

• View bound to paged collection view not updating all of the time.

  I new to silverlight and trying to make a business application using the mvvm pattern and ria services. I have a view model class that contains a PagedCollectoinView and it is set to the item source of a datagrid. When I update the PagedCollectionView the datagrid is only updated the first time then after that subsequent changes to the data to not reflect in the view until after another edit. Things seem to be delayed one edit. Below is a summarized example of my xaml and code behind. • Major performance difference between two Oracle database instances

  I am working with two instances of an Oracle database, call them one and two. two is running on better hardware (hard disk, memory, CPU) than one, and two is one minor version behind one in terms of Oracle version (both are 11g). Both have the exact same table table_name with exactly the same indexes defined. I load 500,000 identical rows into table_name on both instances. I then run, on both instances: delete from table_name; This command takes 30 seconds to complete on one and 40 minutes to complete on two. Doing INSERTs and UPDATEs on the two tables has similar performance differences. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could have such a drastic impact on performance between the two databases?

  Hi, I have a webpage underconstruction. I want to notify the people who visit it about its under-construction nature. For that I wanted to show a small transparent or transluscent page on the above page as shown here http://img17.imageshack.us/i/normalpagewithasmallpag.png/ You may notice that i want that page to appear at the center of the webpage overlayed on the original page with a cross at top-right corner. Clicking on that cross may close this small page revealing the page behind it so that the users may see what has been developed so far. I hope you guys have some suggestions for me.   Hi, I am very much curious about Nike + iPod app look and feel. They have selected uitabbar buttons red in color The tableviewcell selection style as red in color. The disclosure indicator is also red in color. The solution in my mind for two of these is: I can use a red colored arrow image to use it as accessory view. I can flip between a red colored and white colored view with animation for having the selection style But I am clueless of how the tabbar thing is to be done. I am very curious to know the tricks behind this, I also accept that I may be wrong with my other two solutions. So please suggest the solution for any of the problems. • Editing Multiple files in vi with Wildcards

  When using the programmers text editor vi, I'll often using a wildcard search to be lazy about the file I want to edit vi ThisIsAReallLongFi*.txt When this matches a single file it works great. However, if it matches multiple files vi does something weird. First, it opens the first file for editing Second, when I :wq out of the file, I get a message the bottom of the terminal that looks like this E173: 4 more files to edit Hit ENTER or type command to continue When I hit enter, it returns me to edit mode in the file I was just in. The behavior I'd expect here would be that vi would move on to the next file to edit. So, What's the logic behind vi's behavior here Is there a way to move on and edit the next file that's been matched? And yes, I know about tab completion, this question is based on curiosity and wanting to understand the shell better.

• What is the equivalent to IScriptControl for Web.UI.Page?

  We've been using IScriptControl to tie javascript objects to our UserControls and ServerControls, and it's worked fine. The problem is that ASP.NET seems to provide no method to tie a javascript object to a Page. Up to now, we've been putting plain functions in the global namespace, but I am developing a serious allergy to that practice. It'd be easy enough to wrap our functions into a javascript class, and to include the javascript file on the page, but how to instantiate the object, how to reference it from callback events, and how to pass data to it from the code-behind, I haven't figured out. Or rather, the methods we've been using up to now (hidden fields, emitted javascript strings, etc.), really bug me. Anyone have better ideas?

• Lackadaisical One-to-One between Char and Byte Streams

  I expected to have a one-to-one correspondence between the character streams and byte streams in terms of how the classes are organized in their hierarchy. FilterReader and FilterWriter (character streams) correspond back to FilterInputStream and FilterOutputStream (byte stream) classes. However I noticed few changes as - BufferedInputStream extends FilterInputStream, but BufferedReader does NOT extend FilterReader. BufferedOutputStream and PrintStream both extend FilterOutputStream, but BufferedWriter and PrintWriter does NOT extend FilterWriter. FilterInputStream and FilterOutputStream are not abstract classes, but FilterReader and FilterWriter are. I am not sure if I am being too paranoid to point out such differences, but was just curious to know if there was design reasoning behind such decision.

• Declaring pointers; asterisk on the left or right of the space between the type and name?

  I've seen mixed versions of this in a lot of code. (This applies to C and C++, by the way.) People seem to declare pointers in one of two ways, and I have no idea which one is correct, of if it even matters. The first way it to put the asterisk adjacent the type name, like so: someType* somePtr; The second way is to put the asterisk adjacent the name of the variable, like so: someType *somePtr; This has been driving me nuts for some time now. Is there any standard way of declaring pointers? Does it even matter how pointers are declared? I've used both declarations before, and I know that the compiler doesn't care which way it is. However, the fact that I've seen pointers declared in two different ways leads me to believe that there's a reason behind it. I'm curious if either method is more readable or logical in some way that I'm missing.

  I have added a custom button to the server ribbon in SharePoint (I have used a feature with Farm scope, so that the button is visible throughout the various site collections). However when I install the feature and click the button, I get an error saying "Cannot load CustomPage". I understand that I haven't deployed the assembly, but shouldn't the aspx page be compiled Just In Time?
