  I am writing an asp.net application that exposes data in 2 ways: 1 - 1 common section that all users can see 2 - a Section that displays data specific to a registered user. in this case the user can decide how it looks (through themes), and manage the data to be displayed. Of course, the logic behind is the same, appearance would be different for as user1 and user2 The questions are : What would be best using : 'http://www.site.com/User1' or 'http://user1.site.com'. knowing that in both cases i have to make the displayed pages look like a seperate site then the root domain in anycase, the pages that will be displayed and customized on the fly are located in a subfolder of the of the asp.net project (projectrootpath\personalpages). What is the best way to map the personalpages subfolder to a subdomain or a 'http://www.site.com/userX' in the address bar. i also use "~/" in the urls which in this case needs to point to the personalpages rather then the root . Any help is gretaly apreciated.

• InfoPath browser form submitting dirty fields changed through javascript

  I'm trying to submit an InfoPath browser form with fields that have been modified through the Spell Checker included in Sharepoint server. The spell checker checks all the fields in the page and once the user closes the SpellChecker dialog, it changes the textboxes with the new values through javascript. When I click Submit, debug the FormEvents_Submit in the form code behind and try to do a GetNodeValue("XPath to changed field"), it still shows the old values. I realize that this may be a problem of doing postbacks and I'd like to do a full page postback once the SpellChecker is done changing all the textboxes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. • How would I go about writing a Linux TTY sniffer?

  For educational purposes (not that anyone should care the motivations behind such an exercise) I'd like to write a program that can read/write to/from alternate tty/pty's. I've read papers (from the 1990's) but can't employ the implementation they use, on modern UNIXes. I was hoping that someone had researched into this in the past, or at least, read documentation pertaining to it, that they could provide. I also wonder if (considering the fact that Linux doesn't have STREAMs) if this exercise must be done via a loadable kernel module? I have many questions and probably a misunderstanding of some of the fundamental ideologies that allow such objectives to be put in place, could someone help? :)

• How to retain one million simultaneous TCP connections?

  I am to design a server that needs to serve millions of clients that are simultaneously connected with the server via TCP. The data traffic between the server and the clients will be sparse, so bandwidth issues can be ignored. One important requirement is that whenever the server needs to send data to any client it should use the existing TCP connection instead of opening a new connection toward the client (because the client may be behind a firewall). Does anybody know how to do this, and what hardware/software is needed (at the least cost)? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

• What's the most scalable way to handle somewhat large file uploads in a Python webapp?

  We have a web application that takes file uploads for some parts. The file uploads aren't terribly big (mostly word documents and such), but they're much larger than your typical web request and they tend to tie up our threaded servers (zope 2 servers running behind an Apache proxy). I'm mostly in the brainstorming phase right now and trying to figure out a general technique to use. Some ideas I have are: Using a python asynchronous server like tornado or diesel or gunicorn. Writing something in twisted to handle it. Just using nginx to handle the actual file uploads. It's surprisingly difficult to find information on which approach I should be taking. I'm sure there are plenty of details that would be needed to make an actual decision, but I'm more worried about figuring out how to make this decision than anything else. Can anyone give me some advice about how to proceed with this?

• What's a good way to encrypt data using an asymmetric key, that's available to both java and ruby?

  I have a customer that wants to encrypt some data in his database (not passwords; this needs actual encryption, not hashing). The application which will be doing the encrypting/writing is in Java, but the process which will DECRYPT it is behind a secure firewall, and is written in ruby. The idea was to use a public/private key scheme; the java system would encrypt it with the public key, then the process on his local box would use the private key to decrypt it as needed. I'm looking for any experience anyone has doing something like that; my main question is what sorts of libraries on java and ruby can interoperate with the same keys and data.

• Showing custom model validation exceptions in the Django admin site.

  I have a booking model that needs to check if the item being booked out is available. I would like to have the logic behind figuring out if the item is available centralised so that no matter where I save the instance this code validates that it can be saved. At the moment I have this code in a custom save function of my model class: def save(self): if self.is_available(): # my custom check availability function super(MyObj, self).save() else: # this is the bit I'm stuck with.. raise forms.ValidationError('Item already booked for those dates') This works fine - the error is raised if the item is unavailable, and my item is not saved. I can capture the exception from my front end form code, but what about the Django admin site? How can I get my exception to be displayed like any other validation error in the admin site?

• Force Response to Download File(s) to Desktop with Ruby?

  I was thinking about making a little crop/resize batch processor online, and wanted to know if there was a way for me to do the following: upload image and specify dimensions click "process" and remote app resizes image image downloads automatically locally to wherever it was I uploaded it (say from my desktop), but with a new name (based on the time for example). This would make it so I could host a free image processor that never stored any data other than tempfiles. Is that possible? Something like Rails' send_file method, but I'm using Sinatra and am looking for something in pure ruby. What's the basic concept behind this? What if I wanted to do this for multiple files? Åssuming I can get multiple files uploaded no problem, how can I download all of them automatically?

• wpf app invisible remotely (via radmin)

  hi gang, I've built a little WPF utility that watches a serialport and visualises monitoring information with WPF. It works fine, but a colleague just tried using it from another machine via radmin and my app is completely invisible! if you're at the machine you see it, if you view it via radmin you see the same screen but no app. Instead you see the app behind it (in this case windows explorer), but can't click on anything in the space where my app is. Has anyone else come across this before??

• How do I get a title or some text to appear in a Silverlight mediaplayer when switching to FullScree

  I am working on an ASP.NET website with VB.NET code-behind. I have a Silverlight mediaplayer object on one of the pages and the user may view that video in FullScreen mode. When changing to full-screen mode they are losing the title and chapter of the video series they are viewing. I have tried accessing properties and searched the web for examples on how I could put a title or some text over the player when in FullScreen mode to give the user an indication of where they are currently at while viewing each video. I am using OnClientMediaEnded to move through the videos after each video has ended so they are able to watch the whole series once in FullScreen mode. I am using a call to javascript in with this method to do that and want to know if there is any way to get a title or text up there and then change once the video switches to the next in the series? The controls on the player also go away when going into FullScreen mode so any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

I have objects (ICustomTypeDescriptor) that have properties 'name' 'description' 'c' 'd' and so on (the names are dynamic, and so is the value) and they have information behind them. I have templates for different types. And if I have to list the properties of a single element I can just bind to the values in xaml and use datatemplateselector (in datagridtemplatecolumn) which will pick the correct template. However, when I'm listing several of the elements, how can I use the selectors and the templates? How do I get the correct property bound to the template (two-way)? Compare these two implementations: public class MyClass { public myClass(string fileName) { // some code... } } as opposed to: public class MyClass { private myClass(){} public static Create(string fileName) { // some code... } } There are some places in the .Net framework that use the static method to create instances. At first I was thinking, it registers it's instances to keep track of them, but regular constructors could do the same thing through the use of private static variables. The gui itself and all the logic behind it work.It is just this time depended color-changing that does not. I have read, that swing is not thread safe, but all the examples I found showed me how to start another thread (for example in the background) but never how to stop the current swing-gui thread.

  I'm just getting up to speed on MVVM, but all the examples I've seen so far are binding View controls to simple non-WPF specific data types such as strings and ints. However in our app I want to be able to set a button's border brush based on a number in the Model. At the moment, I translate the number into a brush in the ViewModel to keep the View XAML only, but is that right? I don't like putting WPF specific code in the ViewModel, but equally I don't like the idea of putting code-behind on my View panel. Which is the best way? Thanks

I can create the second part of the Uri /CustomerPortal/Order/9876 dynamically in code-behind. My question is: How can I create the base Uri http://www.BlaBla.com without hardcoding it in my application? Basically I want to have something like: http://localhost:1234/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on my development machine) http://testserver/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on an internal test server) http://www.BlaBla.com/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on the production server) So is there a way to ask the server where the application is running: "Please tell me the base Uri of the application" ? • WPF - Weird results with DataGrid - extra line for editing entries

  Working with WPF and C#. I have a page with a datagrid that lists a series of objects with List as the DataContext. I recently had it working in the code behind and the Datagrid would show the extra line at the bottom of the datagrid for new entries. Now, I have moved the exact same code to its own library project. The data still appears but the extra line for entry does not and users cannot add a new record. I have already tried using grid.CanUserAddNew = true; but that does not solve it. So, it must be something in the List object - it's the exact same code as before, only pulling from a library. Help.

  I have two sets of drop downs for start date and end date. Each date is created by selecting a month, day, and year from 3 separate drop downs. I currently have RequiredFieldValidators on all the drop downs (which just shows a * if nothing has been selected yet), but I need to validate that the end date is greater than the start date. I can take care of the logic behind comparing the dates, but in terms of the validation method used, can someone help me out (I essentially need to validate 6 drop downs all at one time)? I tried a custom validation using client side javascript but couldn't get it to work. Can you even validate multiple drop downs using ASP.NET validation controls? (which is what I would like to do - I can always write the javascript, but was trying to stay away from this). Thanks.

Without the semicolon behind (foo,bar); the event triggers with a unexecuted payload. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Thanks!

So for for-loops and if-statements i have to have braces, even though i only want to span one line. However I need a way in code to check the extension of the file, and display the correct Image and xsl:attribute depending on the If statement. • Asp.Net error reporting with stacktrace

  I have an Asp.Net web site set up to log errors using Log4Net (in global.asax) and redirect users to a custom error page (set up in web.config with: ). On this error page the users have the opportunity to write about what they did when the error occurred and post the description back to us to help fix the problem. My question is this: How do i connect the error stacktrace to the users error report? It appears that .Net has handled the error when it was written to the log file and the custom error page has no information about the stacktrace. If only I could see the stacktrace from the custom error page code-behind my problem would be solved.

One of the things that is a little frustrating is that after I've finished using an object I have to tell the container to "release" the object. I understand the reasoning behind doing this, but it's still cumbersome to have to remember to do this.   hi, I am using jquery ajax method on my aspx page,which will invoke the webmethod in the code behind.Currently the webmethod takes a couple of parameters like firstname,lastname,address etc which I am passing from jquery ajax method using data:JSON.stringify({fname:firstname,lname:lastname,city:city}) now my requirement has been changed such that,the number and type of parameters that are going to be passed is not fixed for ex.parameter combination can be something like fname,city or fname,city or city,lname or fname,lname,city or something else.So the webmethod should be such that it should accept any number parameters.I thought of using arrays to do so, as described here. But I do not understand how can I identify which and how many parameters have been passed to the webmethod to insert/update the data to the DB.Please could someone help me with this? thanks
