    We have a windows server 2008 box at my work place. I want to map a drive from the server to my laptop. I use windows vista home premium x64. I am connected to my workplace through VPN. i can map the drive when I use the administrator account on the server. But the log on is unsuccessful if I use my personal account on the server to map the drive. My personal account on the server is part of Administrators group. Can any one help me with this?

    Maybe is a very basic question, but I can't find the exact terms to Google for it and find the concrete answer to my doubt. Suppose we have several PCs in which individual employees work. One of them has an extremely powerful CPU, and it's very useful to use that computer to perform heavy computations, but go there and set up your task means its user has to stop working for a while. Is it possible to allow a secondary user account to remotly log in, for example via Remote Desktop, and work with a full user environment, while the main user keeps working under his user session? I've used remote desktop many times in the past, but it always blocked current user session, or even terminated it. Lots of thanks in advance guys.

I ask cause I've recently copied the contents of an ubuntu based live iso (easypeasy, the ldistro for nwtbooks) onto a harddisk, but the squash fs is corrupt. Most likely cause I copied it live. :) so it's not autologging in. Is there a username/password for this? Update: I tried username ubuntu and a blank password, it didn't work

  • Why is it taking longer to log into windows7?

    I installed windows 7 and it was file for weeks. Recently i created a 2nd user account, installed important updates, installed 1 game and AFAIK that is it. What did it? All three of theses doesnt seem they would cause logging in to take longer (maybe important updates did it?). It takes 90+ seconds to get a fully loaded desktop when it use to take ~30 second. Looking at msconfig and starup i see vmware, dtools, launchy and live messenger (msn). I know i had three of these and maybe all 4 during the last install how can i find out what made loggin in slow? -edit- i also installed visual studios rc1 team instead of beta2 and msvs 2008. But i hardly doubt msvs rc1 did it.

This even happened in safe mode with the administrator's account. So I can't log in. I'll be using a Linux Live CD to extract the laptop's data. Could this be a virus or a hard disk problem?   • putty 0.61 : why do I see "Access Denied" message after I enter my login id?

    I use putty to login to my RHEL 5.3 server. I'm prompted to enter my login as "login as " and I enter my login Id. as soon as I press ENTER, I see a "Access Denied" message following which I'm prompted with password. I successfully enter password and I'm through -- no problems. I tried the same with putty 0.60(as opposed to above putty 0.61) but in this version, I don't get any "access denied" error. What should I make of this ? Is putty 0.61 version buggy ? P.S : If I login using ssh.exe(from cygwin), then I'm fine -- I don't get any "access denied" errors. Thank you,

    I've just created an Automator workflow and I'm using crontab to execute it at night. The problem is that, after a while, the machine is going to sleep and a password is required (this is the intended behaviour). Unfortunately, Automator seems to be unable to perform the task when the password is required. It works like a charm if the "password required" dialog is not displayed (before the sleep). Any suggestion on how to solve this?

  • How would I prevent users from logging in a PC while software is installing?

    So I currently am looking for a solution to keeping users logged out while software is installing or activating a pop-up message that cannot be moved, closed, and is always on top, because sometimes when we deploy software to users (via SCCM), the parameters of the install require the user to be logged out for the duration of the installation. I've looked at trying to customize the group policy for account lockout but with no luck. Anyone know of any programs or scripts that do this? Thank you!

  • Chrome logs me out of everything when I exit--tried cookie-related stuff already

    I've been using Chrome very successfully for a long time. It has always kept me logged in to all my sites even after exiting the app. Recently it started logging me out of everything when I exit Chrome. I've fooled around with all the various advanced cookie settings, and I've cycled through the options hoping that Chrome just needed a wakeup call or a reset or something. I've also deleted all the cookies in case a corrupted one is confusing Chrome. Nothing works! I see cookies when I log in, but they all go away when I exit Chrome. I've searched all over the place and seen only the standard answers relating to resetting cookies, local data, sessions, that sort of thing. Any Chrome gurus out there, please send a telepathic message to my browser asking it to resume its previous excellent behavior. Alternatively, you could suggest other possible solutions.

  • How do I log in to the ubuntu 10.04 server using grub2 from a remote computer/terminal with GUI running

    I upgraded my server from ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04. It now uses the grub2 bootloader. In 8.04 from the grub log-in page I could select the option log in to server and thereby connect through SSH directly to my server and have the GUI running. I can currently log in to my upgraded server now from any of my 8.04 machines using grub1 with the GUI running. I cannot log in that way from a machine that uses grub2 and ubuntu 10.04. I want to upgrade my entire network to ubuntu 10.04 but cannot until I know how to log in to the network from grub2 with the gui open. I have exhausted all my ideas as to the solution to this problem. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank-you

  • Is it possible to allow saved passwords for remote desktop in a domain environment?

    I have checked the "remember password" and every single time, even if it connects correctly after I type a password and check the box, it does not allow subsequent logins using the stored password, saying that it is invalid - is it being saved improperly somehow? is it being disabled by some obscure setting somewhere? (which would be very counter-intuitive, seeing as how the check box is available). I have tried both with domain and non-domain (local) admin accounts, and am using the FQDN for the server. edit: as a troubleshooting step, where would one go to find the (hopefully hashed) password?

    Hi, As Android supports multiple devices from different manufacturers there are different screen resolutions supported. The table that is available at http://developer.android.com/intl/fr/guide/practices/screens_support.... is not very clear to me. It shows WVGA and FWVGA in MDPI for Large Screens and HDPI for Normal screens. So, if the image is kept in drawable-mdpi and its resolution is 320 * 480 then which image will be taken by Large Screens device of MDPI. Moreover, there are two screen resolutions for HDPI i.e. 480 * 800 and 480 * 854. So, with what screen resolution the image should be built. I want to place the background image which looks distorted in WVGA emulator since its resolution is 320 * 480. I have read about nine patchable images but I think they are better for button images and edittext images so that they can stretch according to the data in it. Can someone please guide me in this?     Hi, I don't know if my question will be clear or not, but i'm starting basic stuff with iphone programming, and i'm trying to understand how to go from a screen to another. lets say i have a screen with a "next page" button and another page with a "return" button. I have a general idea of how to do this, but I don't know how to put it together. I think I need an IBAction method for each button, and in each method a navigation controller with pushViewController.     which graphics driver will solve my laptop screen display problem? Recently installed Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS on my laptop and upgraded it to 12.10, through 12.04.1 LTS. I am not able to get the display right, from the beginning. During boot laptop screen is all green, and images / videos are not getting displayed properly when logged in. Actual problem started last week, when this laptop was with Windows Vista (preloaded), and I tried to update Nvidia graphics drivers. something went wrong and I couldn't find a way to fix, so decided to install Ubuntu. Over last week, installed / re-installed Ubuntu many times with various drivers with no success. Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1420 Installed OS : ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Current, Ubuntu 12.10) Nvidia driver : GeForce 8400M GS (tried in previous installations; not installed now) Print-screen was not able to catch this issue as mentioned in the comment, so I am posting screen photos.

  • MacBook Pro 15in High-res hard to read. What setting should I change?

    I just bought a new MacBook Pro with the high-res screen (1680x1050), but I noticed that all text is so small that to read it my face has to be like 18 inches away. When I adjusted the resolution to be the next sizes down (1440 x 852, and 1440 x 852 stretched), as well as all the other smaller sizes it made everything look blurry (similarly to when you use Command + Scroll to zoom in, how the text is really soft on the edges, and difficult to read). Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing, or another resolution settings area that I can use. I feel like this 2800 dollar notebook may be only good for movie watching otherwise.   • Why does Ubuntu reset brightness settings at the loading screen?

    Since I first installed Ubuntu 11.10, I noticed that volume and screen brightness get reset every time Ubuntu starts. Why is this so? And what ways are there to keep brightness and volume levels after rebooting? I have found some scripts that change the screen-brightness at login. But this is not a good solution since login is slower because it seems to wait until the screen brightness is at the level specified by the script. After entering the password I see the screen brightness go down gradually. Only after this is complete (~1 or 2 seconds) does the background disappear and Unity come up. The screenbrightness is not remembered but instead redefined at login. So it gets remembered for the first part of the boot, then set to MAX and then again re-set to normal value by the script. My boot process is as follows: desired brightness: 2 (13,33%) / Max brightness: 15 (100%) Bios / brightness: OK GRUB (violet background color, white text) / brightness: OK Ubuntu loading screen with the dots / brightness: MAX (win7 loads with OK-brightness) User Login / brightness: MAX Unity starts / brightness: OK It seems to be more like a temporary patch than a actual solution. I'm looking for solutions that set the desired brightness permanently and consistently throughout the whole boot-process After updating to 12.04 the behavior is the same. I tried setpci -s 02:00.0 F4.B=XX The value of F4.B is always '0' regardless of what value I try to set it to (tried 0, ff, f, 5, etc) The solution in this answer does not have any noticeable effect: Desktop doesn't remember brightness settings after a reboot The variables at /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ get changed if I use Fn+UP and Fn+DOWN Any help is appreciated.     I have two partitions and have Linux Ubuntu running on one partition and Windows 7 running on the other. Now when I try to boot from Windows 7, I get an error saying the /system32/winload.exe file is corrupted or deleted. Now I have Windows 7 files on my system but do not have the DVD, I have made USB bootable with Windows 7, but when I boot it with the USB stick, a blue screen is coming on with weird errors messages. Now I am trying to restore my Windows instance to a restore point where it can work normally. How can I do that in my situation?

    I'm a newbie in desktop recording and screencasting. I didn't find a suitable free application to do all the things I want it to do, but I did enjoy using jing. I would expect such an application to have these features: choose the whole desktop, a region, a window to record zoom in an area, and camera move save the recorded movie to a compressed format have basic editing tools have the mouse highlighting feature (either a sonar blip or something similar) highlight window/field on the screen, any trick will do display pressed keys/key combinations (like iphone does) So the question is: Which free desktop recording/screencasting software would you recommend on windows? It doesn't have to have all those features, just tell me your favorable experiences. Please suggest tools that would do mouse/keys/areas highlight tricks. I'm open to commercial software too, but I would prefer a free one. Thank you!
