• ImageCaptureCore documentation

  There are a few overviews in the OS X 10.6 docs that I access via XCode, and a bunch of examples, but the actual reference docs seem to be absent. I was able to figure things out by reading the inline comments in the header files (e.g., ICCameraDevice.h), which looks like the source for the XCode docs. Is there a way to install these docs? The biggest problem with the overview writeups and the examples is that they assume you have a GUI. The whole point of ImageCaptureCore, vs. ImageKit, as I understand it is that you don't have a GUI, or want to have your own (my case). Anyone else have a good time figuring out how these APIs work? • Typical size of unit tests compared to test code

  I'm curious what a reasonable / typical value is for the ratio of test code to production code when people are doing TDD. Looking at one component, I have 530 lines of test code for 130 lines of production code. Another component has 1000 lines of test code for 360 lines of production code. So the unit tests are requiring roughly 3x to 5x as much code. This is for Javascript code. I don't have much tested C# code handy, but I think for another project I was looking at 2x to 3x as much test code then production code. It would seem to me that the lower that value is, assuming the tests are sufficient, would reflect higher quality tests. Pure speculation, I just wonder what ratios other people see. I know lines of code is an loose metric, but since I code in the same style for both test and production (same spacing format, same ammount of comments, etc) the values are comparable.

• Enforcing a query in MySql to use a specific index

  Hi, I have large table. consisting of only 3 columns (id(INT),bookmarkID(INT),tagID(INT)).I have two BTREE indexes one for each bookmarkID and tagID columns.This table has about 21 Million records. I am trying to run this query: SELECT bookmarkID,COUNT(bookmarkID) AS count FROM bookmark_tag_map GROUP BY tagID,bookmarkID HAVING tagID IN (-----"tagIDList"-----) AND count >= N which takes ages to return the results.I read somewhere that if make an index in which it has tagID,bookmarkID together, i will get a much faster result. I created the index after some time. Tried the query again, but it seems that this query is not using the new index that I have made.I ran EXPLAIN and saw that it is actually true. My question now is that how I can enforce a query to use a specific index? also comments on other ways to make the query faster are welcome. Thanks

• MSMQ.MSMQQueueInfo PathName Not Accepted

  I am using MSMQ.MSMQQueueInfo with jscript on Windows 7 (the latest MSMQ version). This is being run on a domain joined computer. For some reason unknown to me, it just will not accept the PathName I give it (which is in an acceptable format). Here is the code: var qi = new ActiveXObject ("MSMQ.MSMQQueueInfo"); qi.PathName = "FormatName:Direct=OS:mycomputer\\Private$\\myqueue"; I know this PathName works, because I use the exact same path in c#, and that works: queue = new MessageQueue("FormatName:DIRECT=OS:" + contollerName + "\\Private$\\" + queueName); When the code "qi.Open()" in the jscript code attempts to execute, it returns this error message: The queue path name specified is invalid. Has anyone else run into this? Ideas? Comments? Suggestions? Thank you in advance!

• out of memory issue in asp .net mvc application

  Hi, I have got one wierd issue. I am working on an asp .net mvc application. I have a refresh button that build some data and view models in the controller code, and returns the partial view back. Well this refresh does work good the very first time. But when i try to click my refresh button again, a javascript alert comes saying "out of memory at line 56" I checked my task manager to see on whats happening. I ahve a 3GB memory and when this error alert shows up the used memory is 1.41 GB. Its normal usage as it looks like. But I dont know why it shows the javascript error alert. This problem happens in my local workstation where I am doing developement of this application. Any thoughts or comments to trouble shoot or solve this issue is appreciated. I ma using IE7.

• How do I use CSS to add a non-rectangular border around an image?

  Hello people, I have three images, and they are not square or rectangular in shape. They are just like face of anyone. So, basically, my images are in the size 196x196 or anything like that, but complete square or rectangle with the face in the middle and transperant background in the rest of the portion. Now, I want to remove the transperant background too and just keep the faces. Don't know if this is possible and mind you, this isn't a programming question. EDIT (from comments): How do I put a border around the shape of the image, not a rectangular one around the boundary, using CSS.

• JavaScript multithreading

  I'm working on comparison for several different methods of implementing (real or fake) multithreading in JavaScript. As far as I know only webworkers and Google Gears WorkerPool can give you real threads (ie. spread across multiple processors with real parallel execution). I've found the following methods: switch between tasks using yield() use setInterval() (or other non-blocking function) with threads waiting one for another use Google Gears WorkerPool threads (with plugin) use html5 web workers I read related questions and found several variations of the above methods, but most of those questions are old, so there might be a few new ideas. I'm wondering - how else can you achieve multithreading in JavaScript? Any other important methods? UPDATE: As pointed out in comments what I really meant was concurrency. UPDATE 2: I found information that Silverlight + JScript supports multithreading, but I'm unable to verify this. • Simulink: Specifying trajectory

  I would like to use jtraj to specify a trajectory in a Simulink model. Below are what I attempted to retrieve in the command prompt: Q0 = [1 1 0]; Q1 = [1+0.5*cos(2*20) 1+0.5*sin(2*20) 0]; t = 0:0.1:20; [Q, Qd, Qdd] = jtraj(Q0, Q1, t); However, I don't know how to include such trajectory data in the Simulink model easily. • A simple factory_girl question

  I have two factories (post_factory.rb, comment_factory.rb) in separate files. I'd like to create a bit complex factory, which will create a post with associated comments for me. I created a third file, called complex_factory.rb, and wrote the following code: Factory.define :post_with_comments, :parent => :post do |post| post.after_create { |p| Factory(:user_last_state, :post => p) } end But rake spec raises an error, stating that the file is unaware of post and comment factories. At the very next moment, I naïvely wrote requires at the top: require "post_factory.rb" require "comment_factory.rb" But that didn't gave any proper result. Maybe this requires actually looking the wrong direction? Or they pretty much don't matter (as registering factories for visibility might be more complex that I assume). Am I missing something? Any ideas?

• Cant get the catch statement to catch the custom exception

• What are the ways to do synchronized streaming video and text?

  I would like to have two streams. One being traditional streaming video and another being text. I will also build an interface that allows the user to create the text portion while watching the video. The context of these videos are usually that of an individual being filmed doing a presentation and later the next day for example, a coach will make text annotations (structured data is a plus) with the result being the text stream. It seems this is possible with Silverlight (see the article in the latest MSDN). However, what other methods are there if any? If there any, please give the reasons for why you are recommending them. Thanks. Also, I would prefer something that inst a software as a service hosted solution, but, dont let that keep you from giving an answer. Also keep in mind, the user shouldn't have to do any re-encoding of the video source, the text stream should be separate with someway to synchronize a coach's comments to an arbitrary time stamp in the video.

  i have to give the user the option to upload his own aspx and aspx.cs files on to the server, adjust the hyperlink to point to a page which would do the following display the aspx and aspx.cs files code onto the page without actually rendering the code the browser should not understand anything, and while reading the files to display them the method be such that nothing is processed on the server regarding the code within the files to prevent from unnecessary problems many user would try to cause. i have tried many ways of displaying it but it ends up on displaying the actual comments instead of the code. please suggest with links to examples how to achieve the above. please note main concentration is on asp.net and c# using vs08, so j script and ready-made tools be avoided if feasible thank you all

• Exchange 2003 Public Folder Replica list

I am using the WMI namespace exchange_publicfolder to try and add an Exchange server (using the servers DN) to the AddReplica procedure. Every time I run this I get an invalid parameter as an exception. Below is the code that I am using to do this. • Drupal setup for proofreaders - "Revision Moderation"

  I would like to have external proofreaders to work directly inside my Drupal site. Basically they should be able to create new revisions, annotate, comment etc without affecting what users see without my approval. Particularly the node might already be public. "Revision Moderation" module sounds a bit like what I want, but it seems not to be so much used, and I run into other modules like "Workflow". • Discover the environment and relative path of the running application

  Hi, While playing with RubyCocoa, I keep progressing with my idea for my application. Because my application will be going to use configuration files, I would like to know how I discover the relative path to store these inside my application structure (or if a better idea emerges, please elaborate also the "why"). Also good for me to know is to discover environment variables, such as operating system version, the amount of memory that is available and such. Hyperlinks would be awesome too.   I'm writing a sokoban solver for fun and practice, it uses a simple algorithm (something like BFS with a bit of difference). now i want to estimate its running time ( O and omega). but need to know how to calculate count of acyclic paths from a vertex to another in a network. actually I want an expression that calculates count of valid paths, between two vertices of a m*n matrix of vertices. a valid path: visits each vertex 0 or one times. have no circuits for example this is a valid path: but this is not: What is needed is a method to find count of all acyclic paths between the two vertices a and b. comments on solving methods and tricks are welcomed.
