• How can I detect touch events on a UIImageView inside a deep hierarchy of UIViews?

  I am developing a simple game on iPhone and I started with a View based application, and through the UIViewController I am loading a custom UIView that contains some more UIViews and some UIImageViews. I want to detect touch events on some of the UIImageViews, but I wasn't able so far. I've created a second project for testing purposes and figured that UIImageViews handle touch events when the hierarchy is like : UIViewController - UIView - UIImageView, but when it's like : UIViewController - UIView - UIView - UIImageView they are not detected. Notes: - userInteractionEnabled is YES in all cases - all UIViews and UIImageViews I mention above are custom subclasses. Can you think of any reason why, when a custom UIImageView gets deeper in the view hierarchy can't receive touch events?

• Using a Generic Repository pattern with fluent nHibernate

  I'm currently developing a medium sized application, which will access 2 or more SQL databases, on different sites etc... I am considering using something similar to this: http://mikehadlow.blogspot.com/2008/03/using-irepository-pattern-with-linq-to.html However, I want to use fluent nHibernate, in place of Linq-to-SQL (and of course nHibernate.Linq) Is this viable? How would I go about configuring this? Where would my mapping definitions go etc...? This application will eventually have many facets - from a WebUI, WCF Library and Windows applications / services. Also, for example on a "product" table, would I create a "ProductManager" class, that has methods like: GetProduct, GetAllProducts etc... Any pointers are greatly received.

• Accessing one process's memory contents from another module

  I am developing a virtual device driver such that the user can write to the driver a process' pid and a virtual address, and the module will use these two values to get the memory contents of the target process. I am wondering if there is any easy functions that can fetch user page's data at this virtual address. I have tried get_user but this is not possible because the modules executing get_user at another process's context. I also tried to use ptrace_readdata, however, it seems that the file at /kernel/ptrace.c leaves a function access_process_vm undefined and also I don't know how to compile the source code of my module with this file (the linker seaches file in /linux/include by default). I am wondering if there are any other solutions...

  I´ve got a very short question about the "dataGridView". I´m developing with the Microsoft PowerShell and I want to copy one Row (from $dataGridView1) to the other ($dataGridView2). With this Code I can only Copy the Value of the last focused Cell. I´ve tried to make this for a whole Row, but it´s only working with Cells. And TeX or LaTeX codes represent mathematics contents such as an inline math $y=mx+c$ and a displayed math \[y=mx+c\]. Right now my site can accept input, for example, $x<y$. However it cannot accept $x<y>z$ because the framework regards this input is vulnerable to XSS and XSRF. Shortly speaking, what I should do to accomplish what I want but it does not open security vulnerability.

  Hello everyone, I am developing module where-in i pick the image from photo library and put into a Sprite. I want to implement Zoom-in, Zoom-out kind of effect for a Sprite image, same like camera album images zoom in/out effect. Could someone please guide me how do i implement it? I see somewhere is that, i have to detect two touch events in TouchBegan and then Adjust the Sprite Scale size to up or down based on the distance of two fingers touch event values.   Is there a standard practice to organize the process of developing a simple website. there is no use implementing MVC as there is no data base involved. It will be very useful in organizing the project and separating the aspx files and master page content(this can be very useful in implementing simple cms techniques) user controls scripts styles images is there any industry standard or best practice for this.? thanks in advance :) Update: yes the way i have listed is convenient. but it would be great if i could separate server codes and files like master,aspx.. and the actual page content. One more reason for not using MVC: I usually outsource the SEO process. Now an MVC application can be greek/latin for my SEO expert. :)

• Hashing words to numbers with respect to definition

  As part of a larger project, I need to read in text and represent each word as a number. For example, if the program reads in "Every good boy deserves fruit", then I would get a table that converts 'every' to '1742', 'good' to '977513', etc. Now, obviously I can just use a hashing algorithm to get these numbers. However, it would be more useful if words with similar meanings had numerical values close to each other, so that 'good' becomes '6827' and 'great' becomes '6835', etc. As another option, instead of a simple integer representing each number, it would be even better to have a vector made up of multiple numbers, eg (lexical_category, tense, classification, specific_word) where lexical_category is noun/verb/adjective/etc, tense is future/past/present, classification defines a wide set of general topics and specific_word is much the same as described in the previous paragraph. Does any such an algorithm exist? If not, can you give me any tips on how to get started on developing one myself? I code in C++.

  Developing a multilingual application in VB.Net 2008, Im able to add resources to forms and create a multilingual forms depending on uiculture. On reading Msdn on creating the multilingual string values for messagebox contents, have added the .resource file to the project files path as specified. There is no error on compilation but throws the MissingManifestResourceException error Dim rm As ResourceManager rm = ResourceManager.CreateFileBasedResourceManager("strFormResources", ".", Nothing) Dim ci As CultureInfo ci = New CultureInfo("fr-FR") MessageBox.Show(rm.GetString("sample1", ci)) Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture (or the neutral culture) on disk. baseName: strFormResources locationInfo: fileName: strFormResources.resources There is strFormResources.resources and strFormResources.fr-FR.resources in Resources of the project. I have searched for this error details but could not find a solution. What am i doing wrong or is there any other method for displaying multilingual strings in the messagebox. Thanks in advance

  Repository pattern - Switch out the database and switch in XML files. Hello I have an asp.net MVC 2.0 project and I have followed the Repository pattern. Periodically, I am losing access to the database server so I want to have another mechanism in place (XML files) to continue developing. It is not possible to have a local version of the db unfortunately! I thought this would be relatively easy using the Repository pattern, to switch out the db repositories and switch in XML versions. However, I am having real trouble coming up with a solution. I have tried LinqToXML but then ran into problems trying to return a List of News items as the LinqToXML ToList returns Generic.List Should I be mapping the XElement list over to the News list by hand? It just seems a bit clunky compared to LinqToSQL attributes on the News class and then simply doing a Table.....ToList(); Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks

  Somebody said that when your PHP Code and application use global variable then it must be a spaghetti code (i assume this). I use wordpress a lot. As far as i know, it's the best thing near a great php software. And it use many global variables to interact between its components. but forget about that, cause frankly, that's the only thing i know. so it's completely biased ;D so just curious, What is the characteristic of spaghetti code ? ps : the only thing i know is wordpress. so, Hopefully, maybe this will help somebody give great answer for somebody who have a little experience on developing full web application on PHP (for example, stack-overflow website)

I always had this impression that web.config should store all settings which are suspect to change post-build and setting.settings should have the one which may change pre-build. but I have seen projects which had like connection string in setting.settings. Connection Strings should always been in web.config, shouldnt it? I am interested in a design perspective answer. Just a bit of background: My current scenario is that I am developing a web application with all the three tiers abstracted in three separate visual studio projects thus every tier has its own .settings and .config file.

• Slow SQL Sync with Microsoft Sync Framework on Mobile Client

  Hello, we are developing an application which uses MS Sync Framework to sync data between Windows CE 6.0 with SQL CE 3.5 SP1 Clients and an SQL 2008 Database. Our major problem is a slow sync time up to 1 minute for 15 tables which are totally empty. Here's a break down of our components: Server: Sql Server 2008 15 tables with activated change tracking WCF Service with endpoint for the mobile sync (uses Sync Framework 2.0) Client (Mobile) Windows CE 6.0 NET Application using Sync Framework for Devices (CTP 1) which starts the sync As I mentioned above, the sync takes up to 1 minute without any changes and empty tables. The mobile device is in its dock. This is a deal breaker for a production environment. Does anybody have any experience in this field? Is there a way to improve things? Thanks for any responses.

  Hi! I'm implementing a new machine learning algorithm in Java that extracts a prototype datastructure from a set of structured datasets (tree-structure). As im developing a generic library for that purpose, i kept my design independent from concrete data-representations like XML. My problem now is that I need a way to define a data model, which is basically a ruleset describing valid trees, against which a set of trees is being matched. I thought of using BNF or a similar dialect. Basically I need a way to iterate through the space of all valid TreeNodes defined by the ModelTree (Like a search through the search space for algorithms like A*) so that i can compare my set of concrete trees with the model. I know that I'll have to deal with infinite spaces there but first things first. I know, it's rather tricky (and my sentences are pretty bumpy) but I would appreciate any clues.   Hi, I am developing an application that has two DLLs one is a 32bit version another is 64bit version, Client is 32bit Server is 64bit My question is is there a way I can say use the 32bit dll when doing Debug/Release and use 64bit dll when I perform a publish. I realize I can solve this problem using NAnt or MSBuild but was wondering if I can do any of this in visual studio. UPDATE All my code will run on either 32bit or 64bit but I am using a library that has a 32bit library and a 64bit library. 32bit wont work on server, 64bit wont work on dev machine

• Random Gui errors using C# Mono on OSX

  Hello. Im developing a app in c# (winforms), which uses mono to run on osx. It contains some dynamic controls, for example a custom groupbox which contains some labels and textboxes, a button etc. these boxes can both be added and removed dynamically. Problem arises both when they are created, and removed, or even when a messagebox is shown. What happens is that sometimes on rendering white boxes appears, or some labels are not drawn correctly. And sometimes when a messagebox appears, it first opens up like 5 dummies which are just blank, and which you cant close. Am i doing something wrong, should i sleep the gui thread a bit after each creation, or should i invalidate stuff on my own? Or should i try GTK#? Many thanks on input on this, Erik

• Unable to sync custom authentication with RIA services in SL3 + RIA implementation

  I am developing SL3 + RIA services with custom authentication. I followed the example in http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/RiaServices/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2661 to implement custom authentication. Based on the implementation, you first do login request from client to service. This request is async process. Noe the client GUI will start to bind data to SL controls using RIA services, which requires the authentication to be successful (by adding [RequireAuthentication] attribute). The trouble is, since you requested login from the main process, while it is doing authentication, the page control takes over and starts to bind data using RIA services. But the problem is authentication is not completed yet thus which ever the first service method data binding hits will fail with 'Access denied'. Bottom line is GUI is will not wait for authentication to be completed to start the data binding. My question is how do you handle this situation? Thanks,

• Stopping background services during an android activity

  I am developing an android game right now, and it requires very precise timing and synchronization. That said, it is essential that there is no lag during the game. However I sometimes get lag spikes in the game, and I know its not the GC because I have run the ddms tool, and eliminated all the GC calls. However, I do see alot of background services popping up in my ddms logcat. Is there anyway to pause all services when my game is running? I would appreciate any other solutions. Thanks

  Hi, when generating python wrappers with swig the python wrapper classes in the generated python file do not have an explicit self parameter, for example see below: class PySwigIterator(_object): def value(*args): return _spatiotemporalnmf.PySwigIterator_value(*args) def incr(*args): return _spatiotemporalnmf.PySwigIterator_incr(*args) def decr(*args): return _spatiotemporalnmf.PySwigIterator_decr(*args) def distance(*args): return _spatiotemporalnmf.PySwigIterator_distance(*args) I am developing with the eclipse pluging Pydev. Pydev always shows an error when it detects a method without explicit self parameter. I am aware of two methods to get rid of the errors: First, disable error checking for the whole project in the Pydev preferences. Second, add a #@NoSelf to every line with an error. I don't want to use the first one, because I still want to get error warnings for my non-swig-generated files. Obviously the second one is also not very good, because I would have to do it by hand and every time I generate the file again, all #@NoSelfs will be gone. My Question now is, is there a better way to achieve this? Thanks

• Does it make sense to use a NSFetchedResultsController without an UITableViewController? How are the

  I mean... could I also just create a plain old UIViewController and then set up a UITableView myself, plus an NSFetchedResultsController? How much do UITableViewController and NSFetchedResultsController interact with eachother? As far as I see it, UITableViewController is NOT by default already adopting the NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate protocol. It almost looks like if UITableViewController has been developed without knowing about NSFetchedResultsController. Probably they even did that before developing FRC. Anyways, just a raw guess because the UITableViewController lacks of mentioning FRC at all. So the only thing I see in UITableViewController is that it is already the delegate for a UITableView by adopting the protocol, and it sets up the UITableView instance for me and assigns it internally to it's tableView property. Is that the whole magic of UITableViewController? (note: the nsfetchedresultscontrolle tag is not a typo. SO has a limit for the num of chars...too bad for that missing r, that's why I avoided this tag in my other buch of questions like the plague)
