• Is it possible to stream a file to and from servers without holding the data in ram?

  Hi everyone! PHP question (new to PHP after 10 years of Perl, arrggghhh!). I have a 100mb file that I want to send to another server. I have managed to read the file in and "post" it without curl (cannot use curl for this app). Everything is working fine on smaller files. However, with the larger files, PHP complains about not being able to allocate memory. Is there a way to open a file, line by line, and send it as a post ALSO line by line? This way nothing is held in ram thus preventing my errors and getting around strict limitations. Chris

  I have a reporting setup with SSRS on our sql server 2005 database. Because sql server 2008 is not supported by the main program which populates our database we are stuck with 2005 on our prod database. Unfortunately when I run our weekly check reports the web interface constantly times out because the server cant do the conversion to PDF. I've read that sql server 2008's SSRS is ALOT better with memory management. I was wondering if I can do some kind transact log shipping subscription publication from 2005 to 2008? Am I chasing a dream here.

• Exception when ASP.NET attempts to delete network file.

  Greetings - I've got an ASP.NET application that is trying to delete a file on a network share. The ASP.NET application's worker process is running under a domain account (confirmed this by looking in TaskManager and by using ShowContexts2.aspx¹). I've been assured by the network admins that the process account is a member of a group that has Modify permissions to the directory that contains the file I'm trying to delete. However, it is unable to do so, and instead I get an exception (changed the file path to all x's): System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\xxxxxx.xxx' is denied.   Hi, I have to import big xml files to Ms SQL 2005 Database by using C# with high end Performance. Even if any record fails in middle, i have to take next record for process and failed record need to log for audit. I don't want to put insert query with in for loop. Could you please suggest a best way to do this. If I can use bulkcopy methods or Data Adapter update methods- Its very nice, But if any record fails, execution of that statement breaks and rolled back totally, right? • Php sessions secure log in

  My question is about creating a secure log in routine. After comparing the user name and password to the stored values I set a session variable called logged to true. Then as the user surfs around the web page I just check the logged variable for true or false to determine if the user should have access. This is my first time creating something like this. Is this secure? I feel like there is something else that I should be doing to make sure that users are valid.

• Is there a Windows API to modify file type associations for an extension?

  I'm looking for a way to programatically tweak the particulars of a file association on a Windows system. For example, the "Application User to Perform this Action" setting for the "Open" action for a particular file type. Clearly I could do this by modifying the registry directly, but if there is an API I'd prefer to use that as it would likely be more resilient to changes in the OS handling of mapping extensions to applications. For my purposes I'm needing to write this in VBScript (.VBS) file because it is part of a package to be used with VMWare ThinApp that mandates it. However, I'll port/wrap/whatever I need to make this week, so I am open to any solution (including using the .NET framework)

  I'm trying to create a design for a list that looks like (and mostly behaves like) the call log, like shown here: I don't need all the design, but what I'm trying to achieve is the two-columned design with the splitter in-between, and the behavior that if I click on the main item (the left part) one thing happens (in this case, you open some details about the call), and if you press the outer right part something else happens (you call the contact). I'm pretty new to android, but I've managed to do most of the designs I wanted so far, so I don't need the entire layout for this one, only the part that does the splitting and the splitter. And if possible it would be nice to know how to map the clicks appropriately, though I think I might be able to find that out by my self.

• CSRF error when trying to log onto Django admin page with w3m on Emacs23

  I normally use Firefox and have had no problems with the admin page on my Django website. But I use Emacs23 for writing my posts, and wanted to be able to use w3m in Emacs to copy the stuff across. When I try to log into my admin pages, it gives the CSRF error: CSRF verification failed. Request aborted. Help Reason given for failure: No CSRF or session cookie. ... Is there a way that I could get w3m to work with my admin page? I am not sure if the problem lies with the way the admin is set up on Django or with the Emacs or w3m settings.

• Parsing JPEG file format: Format of entropy-coded segments (ECS) ?

  I'm having difficulty understanding the ITU-T T.81 spec for the JPEG file format. Hopefully someone else here has tried to parse JPEG files and/or knows about the details of this file format. The spec indiates that the ECS0 segment starts after the SOS segment but I can't find where in the spec it actually talks about the format of the ECS0 segment or how do detect its start. Simple JPEG implementations online are of limited help because they assume many things about the JPEGs they parse. Can anyone point me in the right direction? FYI: The JPEG file format spec is here.

  Hi I need to verify in my WPF application if the user log in to his computer via password or via smart-card. Both login options are available in my company clients but my application need to open only in the smart-card login. All the clients are windows 7 OS.   I'm trying to learn WPF and was thinking about creating a simple IRC client. The most complicated part is to create the chat log. I want it to look more or less like the one in mIRC: or irssi: The important parts are that the text should be selectable, lines should wrap and it should be able to handle quite large logs. The alternatives that I can come up with are: StackPanel inside a ScrollViewer where each line is a row ListView, since that seems more suitable for dynamic content/data binding. Create an own control that does the rendering on its own. Is there any WPF guru out there that has some ideas on which direction to take and where to start?

  I want to import the contents of a csv file into R, the csv file contains multiple sections of data vertically, seperated by blank lines and asterisks. Currently I'm manually cutting the csv file up into smaller files, but I think I could do it using read.csv and the skip and nrows settings of read.csv, If I could work out where the secion breaks are. This gives me a logical TRUE for every blank line ifelse(readLines("DATA.csv")=="",TRUE,FALSE) I'm hoping someone has already solved this problem.

• What is the difference between File and FileInfo in C# ?

  I've been reading that the static methods of the File Class are better used to perform small and few tasks on a file like checking to see if it exists and that we should use an instance of the FileInfo Class if we are going to perform many operations on a specific file. I understand this and can simply use it that way blindly but I would like to know why is there a difference ? What is it about the way they work that make them suitable for different situations ? What is the point of having this 2 different classes that seem do the same in different ways ? It would be helpful if someone could answer at least one of this questions.

• How do I watch a file for changes using Python?

  I have a log file being written by another process which I want to watch for changes. Each time a change occurrs I'd like to read the new data in to do some processing on it. What's the best way to do this? I was hoping there'd be some sort of hook from the PyWin32 library. I've found the win32file.FindNextChangeNotification function but have no idea how to ask it to watch a specific file. If anyone's done anything like this I'd be really grateful to hear how... [Edit] I should have mentioned that I was after a solution that doesn't require polling. [Edit] Curses! It seems this doesn't work over a mapped network drive. I'm guessing windows doesn't 'hear' any updates to the file the way it does on a local disk.

  I want the ability add properties and tags to a file (specifically ebook files and ebook related properties in Windows 7 but interested to go so for as many OSes as possible) For e.g. Example.txt or Example.doc or Example.epub should all store and carry properties like 'Author', 'Publication date', 'Tags' etc.. the properties should be stored with the file itself. Such that if it is transferred to another system it retains the properties (even if i need to install 'my app' to support this function on the other machine) How do I make this possible using .net (preferred) and what file system concepts should I learn to understand the underlying concepts and limitations to be able to implement this feature? • Any reason not to always log stack traces?

  Encountered a frustrating problem in our application today which came down to an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception being thrown. The exception's type was just about all that was logged which is fairly useless (but, oh dear legacy app, we still love you, mostly). I've redeployed the application with a change which logs the stack trace on exception handling (and immediately found the root cause of the problem) and wondered why no one else did this before. Do you generally log the stack trace and is there any reason you wouldn't do this? Bonus points if you can explain (why, not how) the rationale behind having to jump hoops in java to get a string representation of a stack trace!

  I have an ASP.NET website, but this question isn't really about technology, it is rather about practice. Should we log our 404 errors? My reasoning: This is a potential vulnerable point because a simple unfriendly user may fill up your hard drive in no time just by requesting wrong URLs! Some browsers often request resources up front - like for example favicon.ico, even if its not there. This is really annoying. But really I would like to know about a broken link if there exists one in my websites. Should I depend on the URL referrer? The problem with the URL referrer is that I cannot distinguish my internal redirect which may be broken with an unfriendly one from outside. What does the practice suggest?

It has parameter ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipConstants.DefaultCodePage which specifies encoding of file names in zip archive. I know that in Windows and in OSX different encodings are used to store file names. 1) Which encodings (code pages) are used in both? 2) How to determine programmatically which encoding is used? When I open in Win7 zip file packed under MacOS X, I see files with bad names (originally - cyrillic) and folder called __MACOSX, so I can say zip was prepared on Mac box. Any other way? What about other UNIX like systems?

• Log with timestamps that have millisecond accuracy & resolution in Windows C++

  I'm aware that for timing accuracy, functions like timeGetTime, timeBeginPeriod, QueryPerformanceCounter etc are great, giving both good resolution & accuracy, but only based on time-since-boot, with no direct link to clock time. However, I don't want to time events as such. I want to be able to produce an exact timestamp (local time) so that I can display it in a log file, eg 31-12-2010 12:38:35.345, for each entry made. (I need the millisecond accuracy) The standard Windows time functions, like GetLocalTime, whilst they give millisecond values, don't have millisecond resolution, depending on the OS running. I'm using XP, so I can't expect much better than about a 15ms resolution. What I need is a way to get the best of both worlds, without creating a large overhead to get the required output. Overly large methods/calculations would mean that the logger would start to eat up too much time during its operation. What would be the best/simplest way to do this?
