  • Xcode: Application name in OS X cannot be localized?

    - by Andrew Chang
I have an project named "Multi-Camera Supervisor". I make the "MainMenu.xib" file localized. Here are the menu bar in localized nib file of Xcode: For English: For Japanese: But when I ran my application in Xcode, The first item doesn't work. Here are the menu bars when my application ran: For English: For Japanese You can see that the application name was still "Multi-Camera Supervisor". Meanwhile, the application name appeared in Dock icon was not localized either. How should I solve this? How can I localize the application name not only in main menu but also in Dock?

  • Can you use the PackageMaker command to create an installer from a list of files?

    - by zekel
I want to (periodically and automatically) create an installer from various files and folders that are in many places. But, I can't figure out how to supply the packagemaker command with all the paths of the items I want to install. This is for internal development purposes, not for customer distribution. I want the files included to be configureable; it's not really an option to use the GUI to add all the paths because they will change frequently. The best I could do was to use the --watch flag and touch all of the stuff I wanted included in the package. This is very messy and includes other files that happen to be accessed at the same time. There isn't a common scheme to what I want to include, so I can't just --filter the rest out. Is there a better way? Am I missing the point?

  • git: How to diff changed files versus previous versions after a pull?

    - by doug
I'm new to git, using it via Terminal on Snow Leopard. When I run "git pull" I often want to know what changed between the last version of a file and the new one. Say I want to know what someone else committed to a particular file. How is that done? I'm assuming it's "git diff" with some parameters for commit x versus commit y but I can't seem to get the syntax. I also find "git log" confusing a bit and am not sure where to get the commit ID of my latest version of the file versus the new one.

  • How can JVM arguments be passed to apps started through java webstart in MacOS?

    - by siva
We have a application which is triggered from browser. This application consumes around 800 mb of memory. This works perfectly when invoked from any browsers in windows OS. The same application when triggered from MacOS throws an out of memory exception which occurs when the application is short of memory. Is there any way to increase the memory allocated for apps running in mac os environment. Also please let me know how JVM arguments can be passed to apps started through java webstart in macOS.

  • Excel VBA Macro for Pivot Table with Dynamic Data Range

    - by John Ziebro
CODE IS WORKING! THANKS FOR THE HELP! I am attempting to create a dynamic pivot table that will work on data that varies in the number of rows. Currently, I have 28,300 rows, but this may change daily. • Video with QML Video plays choppy on Mac OS X

  • Python import error: Symbol not found, but the symbol <s>is</s> *is not* present in the file

  • How to- NSAttributedString to CGImageRef

    - by kroko
Hello! I'm writing a QuickLook plugin. Well, everything works. Just want to try it make better ;). Thus the question. Here is a function that returns thumbnail image and that I'm using now. QLThumbnailRequestSetImageWithData( QLThumbnailRequestRef thumbnail, CFDataRef data, CFDictionaryRef properties); ); http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/UserExperience/Reference/QLThumbnailRequest_Ref/Reference/reference.html#//apple_ref/c/func/QLThumbnailRequestSetImageWithData Right now I'm creating a TIFF - encapsulated it into NSData. An example // Setting CFDataRef CGSize thumbnailMaxSize = QLThumbnailRequestGetMaximumSize(thumbnail); NSMutableAttributedString *attributedString = [[[NSMutableAttributedString alloc] initWithString:@"dummy" attributes:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: [NSFont fontWithName:@"Monaco" size:10], NSFontAttributeName, [NSColor colorWithCalibratedRed:0.0 green:0.0 blue:0.0 alpha:1.0], NSForegroundColorAttributeName, nil] ] autorelease]; NSImage *thumbnailImage = [[[NSImage alloc] initWithSize:NSMakeSize(thumbnailMaxSize.width, thumbnailMaxSize.height)] autorelease]; [thumbnailImage lockFocus]; [[NSColor whiteColor] set]; NSRectFill(NSMakeRect(0, 0, thumbnailMaxSize.width, thumbnailMaxSize.height)); [attributedString drawInRect:NSMakeRect(0, 0, thumbnailMaxSize.width, thumbnailMaxSize.height)]; [thumbnailImage unlockFocus]; (CFDataRef)[thumbnailImage TIFFRepresentation]; // This is data // Setting CFDictionaryRef (CFDictionaryRef)[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:@"kUTTypeTIFF", (NSString *)kCGImageSourceTypeIdentifierHint, nil ]; // this is properties However QuickLook provides another function to return thumbnail image, namely QLThumbnailRequestSetImage( QLThumbnailRequestRef thumbnail, CGImageRef image, CFDictionaryRef properties); ); http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/UserExperience/Reference/QLThumbnailRequest_Ref/Reference/reference.html#//apple_ref/c/func/QLThumbnailRequestSetImage I have a feeling that passing CGImage to the QL instead of TIFF data would help in speeding things up. However- I have never worked with CG context before. I know, the documentation is there :), but anyways- could anyone give an example how to turn that NSAttributed string into CGImageRef. An example is worth 10 times reading the documentation ;) Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Cocoa for the non-techinical

    - by annoyed
How would you describe and explain Cocoa in non-technical terms, with lots of analogies to common, everyday things. For example, imagine you are describing it to a 5-year-old who keeps asking why? at the end if each explanation. This would invariable delve into the theory of OO so it could get lengthy, but the concept is important to the 'why' of Cocoa.

  • Problems with NSTask in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

    - by kubi
Has anyone else seen or heard of any issues with NSTask in 10.6? This code worked fine yesterday, and is not working today. NSTask *task = [converter task]; [task waitUntilExit]; NSLog(@"Task did complete"); The task does what it's supposed to do (I checked the output and it's fine), but the program will wait indefinitely at the waitUntilExit method. I have a few unit tests that use similar code, they all had passed previously, but as of yesterday, they are no longer working.

  • Learn Obj-C Memory Management

    - by Joshua Brickner
I come from a web development background. I'm good at XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL, because I use all of those technologies at my day job. Recently I've been tinkering with Obj-C in Xcode in the evenings and on weekends. I've written code for both the iPhone and Mac OS X, but I can't wrap my head around the practicalities of memory management. I understand the high-level concepts but am unclear how that plays out in implementation. Web developers typically don't have to worry about these sorts of things, so it is pretty new to me. I've tried adding memory management to my projects, but things usually end up crashing. Any suggestions of how to learn? Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Problem running gems in OS X

    - by akarnid
I'm running Snow Leopard, and installed a custom built Ruby according to the guide here: http://hivelogic.com/articles/compiling-ruby-rubygems-and-rails-on-snow-leopard . My ruby binary lives in usr/local/bin/ruby and my gems are installed in /usr/local/bin/gem . My gem env looks like so: RUBY VERSION: 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [universal-darwin10.0] - INSTALLATION DIRECTORY: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8 - RUBY EXECUTABLE: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby - EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY: /usr/bin I think I may have borked the install since all actions taked on gems give the error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Errno::EEXIST) File exists - /usr/local/bin/ruby How do you edit the environment variables for the gem environment? And for those of you on OS X and using ruby AND gems, what did you use to get yourself up and running? I'm thinking of just nuking everything and starting anew.

  • Scripting window positioning in OS X

    - by Matt Trent
My primary computing setup is a macbook pro with a large external monitor. I'm looking for a convenient way of moving a number of the windows of open programs from the laptop screen to the external monitor when I plug it in. I've seen a few partial scripts for accomplishing this, but nothing comprehensive. Ideally I'd like to specify the laptop screen location and external monitor location for each window and be able to toggle between them. Is anyone aware of any existing utility or Applscripts that can perform this?

  • Generating C++ BackTraces in OS/X (10.5.7)

    - by phillipwei
I've been utilizing backtrace and backtrace_symbols to generate programmatic stack traces for the purposes of logging/diagnosis. It seems to roughly work, however, I'm getting a little bit of mangling and there are no accompanying file/line numbers associated with each function invocation (as I'd expect within a gdb bt call or something). Here's an example: 1 leonardo 0x00006989 _ZN9ExceptionC2E13ExceptionType + 111 2 leonardo 0x00006a20 _ZN9ExceptionC1E13ExceptionType + 24 3 leonardo 0x0000ab64 _ZN5Rules11ApplyActionER16ApplicableActionR9GameState + 1060 4 leonardo 0x0000ed15 _ZN9Simulator8SimulateEv + 2179 5 leonardo 0x0000eec9 _ZN9Simulator8SimulateEi + 37 6 leonardo 0x00009729 main + 45 7 leonardo 0x000025c6 start + 54 Anything I'm missing something, doing something silly, or is this all I can expect out of backtrace on OS/X? Some other tidbits: I don't see a rdynamic link option for the g++ version (4.0.1) I'm using. -g/-g3 doesn't make any difference. abi::__cxa__demangle doesn't seem to do anything

  • Untar, ungz, gz, tar - how do you remember all the useful options?

I am pretty sure I am not the only one with the following problem: every time I need to uncompress a file in *nix I can't remember all the switches, and end up googling it, which is surprizing considering how often I need to do this. Do you have a good compression cheat sheet? Or how about a mnemonic for all those nasty switches in tar? I am making this article a wiki so that we can create a nice cheat sheet here. Oh, and about man pages: is there's one thing they are not helpful for, it's for figuring out how to uncompress a file.

  • How to use NSTableView's selectedRowIndexes?

    - by Jakub Lédl
Hi guys, I'm just learning some basic programming in Objective C and Cocoa. I'm trying to get some data from NSTableView. Based on what I read in one tutorial, I wrote this: NSArray * items = [[itemsTableView selectedRowEnumerator] allObjects]; But then I learned that selectedRowEnumerator was deprecated already in 10.3 Panther and that I should use selectedRowIndexes. The problem is, I didn't find how to actually use the returned NSIndexSet to achieve the same result as with code written above. So, If anyone could give me a tip, I would be very grateful. Thanks.

  • How to activate nVidia cards programmatically on new MacBookPros for CUDA programming?

    - by Carsten Kuckuk
The new MacBookPros come with two graphic adapters, the Intel HD Graphics, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. OS X switches back and forth between them, depending on the workload, detection of an external monitor, or activation of Rosetta. I want to get my feet wet with CUDA programming, and unfortunately the CUDA SDK doesn't seem to take care of this back-and-forth switching. When Intel is active, no CUDA device gets detected, and when the NVidia card is active, it gets detected. So my current work-around is to use the little tool gfxCardStatus (http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/) to force the card on or off, just as I need it, but that's not satisfactory. Does anybody here know what the Apple-blessed, Apple-recommended way is to (1) detect the presence of a CUDA card, (2) to activate this card when present?
