  • Twitter "Authentication Error" Turpial & Choqok (latest versions)

    I use Turpial a lot, but Turpial isn't connecting at all. I can still connect to Twitter thru the OS app (no issues signing in through Online Accounts) and of course I can still sign in using the browser, but Turpial gives me an "Authentication Error" and Choqok fails to do anything. I've tried changing my password, revoking the Turpial and Ubuntu apps in Twitter and re-enabling them, but then it gives me an "Invalid Credentials" message. I've even removed and installed Turpial multiple times, still nothing. I can't find any information or resources for this type of error from Turpial online. I think it may be something recent after finding this message elsewhere: (article related to "Birdie") It looks promising i'm currently using it atm, since all the other twitter clients no longer work due to the API 1.0 shutdown (posted today) I've never used Choqok before today, so I don't even know if I've set it up properly. It's failing to retrieve or send Tweets it just blank screens, but at least it signs in. I've figured that this isn't an issue with Ubuntu, or Turpial or Choqok, or the router (already replaced it today), so I don't really know what I'm dealing with here. I hope it's not another API issue, Facebook did something similar just a few weeks ago

  • New Solaris 11.2 beta features: SMF stencils

    As much as there is often a lot discussion about configuration items inside the SMF repository (like the hostname), it brings an important advantage: It introduces the concept of dependencies to configuration changes. What services have be restarted when i change a configuration item. Do you remember all the services that are dependent on the hostname and need a restart after changing it? SMF solves this by putting the information about dependencies into it configuration. You define it with the manifests. However, as much configuration you may put into SMF, most applications still insists to get it's configuration inside the traditional configuration files, like the resolv.conf for the resolver or the puppet.conf for Puppet. So you need a way to take the information out of the SMF repository and generate a config file with it. In the past the way to do so, was some scripting inside the start method that generated the config file before the service started. Solaris 11.2 offers a new feature in this area. It introduces a generic method to enable you to create config files from SMF properties. It's called SMF stencils. (read more)

  • Installing and running two postgresql versions on different ports (or two instances of same server)

    I have postgresql 9.1 installed on my machine (Ubuntu). I need another postgresql server that would run next to the old one. Exact version does not matter, but I'm thinking of using 9.2 version. How could I properly install and run another postgresql version without screwing old one (like upgrading). So those versions would run independently on different ports. Old one on 5432 and new one on 5433 for example. The reason I need this is for two OpenERP versions databases. If I run two OpenERP servers (with different versions) on single postgresql port, it crashes because new OpenERP version detects old versions database and tries to run it, but it crashes because it uses another schemes. P.S or maybe I could just run same postgresql server on two ports? Update So far I tried this: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.1/bin/pg_ctl initdb -D main2 It created new cluster. I changed port to 5433 in new clusters directory postgresql.conf file. Then ran this: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.1/bin/pg_ctl -D main2 -l logfile start I got response server starting. But when I tried to enter new cluster's template database with: psql template1 -p 5433 I got this error: psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5433"? Also now when I try to stop server with: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.1/bin/pg_ctl -D main2 -l logfile start I get this error: pg_ctl: PID file "main2/postmaster.pid" does not exist Is server running? So I don't understand if server is running and what I'm missing here? Update Found what was wrong. Stupid me. I didn't notice that when I changed port in .conf file, that line was commented already. So actually I didn't change anything first time, but thought I did and it used default 5432 port.

  • 12.10 live dvd no video input

    Hi I have been trying install Ubuntu 12.10, but as soon as it gets past my bios and to the screen with the blinking line in the top left, I get a no video input message on my tv (like when you turn the tv on with nothing connected). I have used live dvd's of both betas, alphas and daily build all with exactly the same results. Has any one else had this ? Is there a fix ? Dose this mean I can never upgrade my Ubuntu again ? (12.04 works ive been using since beta) My pc ,while old, should run this fine CPU = 2x Intel P4 HT @ 3ghz GPU = Nvidia Geforce 310 via HDMI RAM = 2 Gb DDR 2 HDD = 2 x 7200 rpm SATA Please help me I use Ubuntu exclusively on my pc and would like to keep doings so.

Can you afford to just release them after internal testing, or do they have to be betatested by customers first? Situation: This is a young commercial project, produced by a one-person company. It has an existing userbase and is at it's second major version. Previous betatests have produced some results, however most feedback came from the stable product and not from beta versions.

    How will I know when my company is ready to receive an investment? I am starting a company and have bootstrapped it so far. I have produced four versions of the demo. The first fully-working version is underway. Getting this to a beta phase product will require capital, which requires an investment, which requires an investor, which requires I stop working on the product and go out and talk to people about it. The last time I raised money from investors, it took a while but I was successful. I don't want it to take a while. I want it to be brain dead simple for an investor to understand the value so that I can optimize the time I spend with the product. Is my logic flawed? What is the best way to approach raising money, while limiting both my time and risk? Thanks.

    We run Ubuntu Lucid 10.0.4 as the foundation of our LAMP environment. We are trying to become PCI compliant so that we can pass CC info through our server. We have run some third-party scans on our servers to begin the certification process and have run into errors regarding PHP 5 versions and Apache versions. The latest PHP version hosted in our official lucid repository is about 10 versions lower than what PCI compliance requires. How do we upgrade to stay current with PCI compliance requirements? We need to get from php 5.3.2 to php 5.3.15 As well as up to apache 2.2.23 I've searched far and wide for an answer and haven't come up with a realistic answer. Some recommend compiling manually - which sounds like a nightmare, and others recommend a PPA - which sounds insecure. What should we do?

    I'm working on this big website and I want to put it online before its fully finished... I'm working locally and the database is getting really big so I wanted to upload the website and continue to work on it in the server, but allowing people to enter, so I can test. The question is if this is good for SEO, I mean, there are a lot of things SEO related that are incomplete.. For example: there are no friendly URLs, no sitemap, no .htacces file, lot of 'in-construction' sections... Does Google will penalize me forever? How does it works? Google indexes adn get the structure of the site just once or its constantly updating and checking for changes??? What i should do? What you recommend?!!?

    Sorry, this might be a beginner question: How can I list all available versions of specific package? I know with apt-get install myPackage=1.2.3 a specific version could be installed. And with apt-show-version -a myPackage I would get a list of versions that are known by the system. But how getting a list of all available versions. I think that isn't possible using the apt tools because they are restricted to configured repositories. So what is the way to go? Some web-repositories? What is the recommondation for Ubuntu 8.04?

  • Previous Versions delayed with SBS 2008 / Windows 7

    The SBS 2008 at this site has Previous Versions enabled on a mapped drive. The snapshots happen 3 times a day. I doubt they take very long; the diff size is only a few GB. The problem is that the users on Windows 7 cannot see their previous versions until a few hours later. Is there some indexing that has to happen before the Previous Versions are visible to the client machines? Edit: In the application log, 3 minutes after every scheduled backup, there is an event for VSS (EventID 8224) saying "The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout" Apparently this means it has finished successfully, even though modified files still do not show another version.

  • Maintaining Revision Levels

    A question that came up on an earlier blog post was how to limit the number of revisions on a piece of content. UCM does not inherently enforce any sort of limit on how many revisions you can have. It's unlimited. In some cases, there may be content that goes through lots of changes, but there just simply isn't a need to keep all of its revisions around. Deleting those revisions through the content information screen can be very cumbersome. And going through the Repository Manager applet can take time as well to filter and find the revisions to get rid of. But there is an easier way through the Archiver. The Export Query criteria in Archiver includes a very handy field called 'Revision Rank'. With revision labels, they typically go up as new revisions come in (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc...). But you can't really use this field to tell it to keep the top 5 revisions. Those top 5 revision numbers are always going up. But revision rank goes the opposite direction. The very latest revision is always 0. The previous revision to that is 1. Previous revision to that is 2. And so on and so forth. With revision rank, you can set your query to look for any Revision Rank greater or equal to 5. Now as older revisions move down the line, their revision rank gets higher and higher until they reach that threshold. Then when you run that archive export, you can choose to delete and remove those revisions. Running that export in Archiver is normally a manual process. But with Idc Command, you can script the process and have it run automatically from the server. Idc Command is a utility that allows you to run any of the content server services via the command line. You basically feed it a text file with the services and parameters defined along with the user to run it as. The Idc Command executable is located within the \bin\ directory: $ ./IdcCommand -f DeleteOlderRevisions.txt -u sysadmin -l delete_revisions.log In this example, our IdcCommand file to run the export and do the deletions would look like: IdcService=EXPORT_ARCHIVE aArchiveName=DeleteOlderRevisions aDoDelete=1 IDC_Name=idc dataSource=RevisionIDs <<EOD>> You can then use automated scheduling routines in the OS to run the command and command file at the frequency needed. Remember that you are deleting the revisions from within UCM, but they are still getting placed within the archive. So you will need to delete those batches to have them fully removed (or re-import if you need to recover them).     I have an installation in my machine (my version is 9.10 Karmic) and I got a warning to Upgrade to a version 10.04, to me it is okay, and I would like to upgrade to the 10.04, but here is my question. If I do, what will happen to my system of files? All my files? My programs, my apache configuration? All my servers.. Does everything reset to default? Will I lost all my data? Because if YES, will lost everything, why such a warning appears to me? Then the best solution is, format everything and install a brand new ubuntu version 11. Otherwise I still using 9.10 Karmic version,and just update normally as I'm required.. What is the best to do on this situation? Appreciate any help!

    I run: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade , and the linux kernel seemed to be updated to 3.2.0-31-generic successfully. However, after I rebooted, I typed: uname -a , it showed : Linux Albert-PC 3.2.0-29-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 27 17:03:23 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Does that means the kernel wasn't being updated? I didn't encounter any error or warning messages during the upgrade or dist-upgrade. Thanks for any help

    I just upgraded from Lucid to Maverick, and as expected, all my PPAs were disabled. I have re-enabled most of the ones that I want, but I would like to get a list of all packages that I installed from PPAs that I no longer have enabled. I feel that the best way to do this would be to search for all packages where the currently installed version of that package does not match any version from a currently-enabled repository. Is there an easy way to search for such packages. Command-line solutions welcome.

  • How do I recover from upgrading while using bad version of gcc/binutils?

    I upgraded from 9.04 to 10.10 a couple of days ago, and things are really messed up - X is crashing constantly. Since then, I had an application segfault for no reason, when I was debugging, I found that it was strlen() that was causing the segfault (pointing to libc being the problem)! Upon investigation, I found that it was because I had a bad version of gcc and binutils installed in /usr/bin/local; I removed it, recompiled the application, and it no longer crashes. Now, looking at my logs, I see that X is also crashing due to libc.   • How can I install a specific older version of Firefox and keep it from automatically updating?

    I wrote a bash script to configure a suite of tools for continuous integration on top of Ubuntu 10.04.2. The script recently stopped working and I tracked the problem down to the newer version of Firefox that was just released. The image of Ubuntu that I'm starting with already has Firefox installed, but I need a version in between what it comes with and the latest. Here's the code I was using: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable sudo apt-get update echo "y" | sudo apt-get install firefox How can I instead install Firefox 7.0.1 and keep it from automatically upgrading to the latest version? If I can, I'd like to avoid installing Firefox manually, so I can more easily use apt-get later, once the issue I'm running into gets resolved.

  • Is it worth upgrading Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04? [closed]

    A few years ago, I used Ubuntu 10.04, and i liked it a lot. It never crashed. Then I have to change to Win*** because of work. But this year, I heard about Ubuntu 12.04 and I wanted to install it. I've done this, but I have a lot of crashes. I don't do something special to make ubuntu crash, but sometimes it shows me a crash message. So, is it worth migrating to 12.04? Do somebody stay with the 10.04? I really want to use ubuntu, and I will, but I don't know if it worth to use the newest release or with the 10.04. If i install the 10.04 version, ubuntu tells me all the time to upgrade to the new version? Or will I use it fine? What do you suggest me? Thanks everybody for your time, and sorry for my english.
