  • Python-MySQLdb problem: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32

    - by jsalonen
As part of trying out django CMS (http://www.django-cms.org/), I'm struggling with getting Python-MySQLdb to work (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/MySQL-python/). I have installed Django CMS and all of its dependencies (Python 2.5, Django, django-south, MySQL server) I'm trying out the example code within Django CMS code with MySQL as chosen database type When I execute python manage.py syncdb, the following error occurs: django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured: Error loading MySQLdb module: /root/.python-eggs/MySQL_python-1.2.3c1-py2.5-linux-i686.egg-tmp/_mysql.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 I have been able to trace the problem specifically to python-mySQLdb (as also visible in the stack trace). Other than that, I am completely puzzled. I don't have a clue what ELFCLASS32 means, or what ELF class is anyway. I suspect that this error could have something to do with the fact that I am running 64-bit version of Debian 5 (on a VPS). Any good ideas how to troubleshoot?

  • Programmatically specifying Django model attributes

    - by mojbro
Hi! I would like to add attributes to a Django models programmatically, at run time. For instance, lets say I have a Car model class and want to add one price attribute (database column) per currency, given a list of currencies. What is the best way to do this? I had an approach that I thought would work, but it didn't exactly. This is how I tried doing it, using the car example above: from django.db import models class Car(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) currencies = ['EUR', 'USD'] for currency in currencies: Car.add_to_class('price_%s' % currency.lower(), models.IntegerField()) This does seem to work pretty well at first sight: $ ./manage.py syncdb Creating table shop_car $ ./manage.py dbshell shop=# \d shop_car Table "public.shop_car" Column | Type | Modifiers -----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------- id | integer | not null default nextval('shop_car_id_seq'::regclass) name | character varying(50) | not null price_eur | integer | not null price_usd | integer | not null Indexes: "shop_car_pkey" PRIMARY KEY, btree (id) But when I try to create a new Car, it doesn't really work anymore: >>> from shop.models import Car >>> mycar = Car(name='VW Jetta', price_eur=100, price_usd=130) >>> mycar <Car: Car object> >>> mycar.save() Traceback (most recent call last): File "<console>", line 1, in <module> File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/base.py", line 410, in save self.save_base(force_insert=force_insert, force_update=force_update) File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/base.py", line 495, in save_base result = manager._insert(values, return_id=update_pk) File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/manager.py", line 177, in _insert return insert_query(self.model, values, **kwargs) File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/query.py", line 1087, in insert_query return query.execute_sql(return_id) File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/sql/subqueries.py", line 320, in execute_sql cursor = super(InsertQuery, self).execute_sql(None) File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/sql/query.py", line 2369, in execute_sql cursor.execute(sql, params) File "/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/backends/util.py", line 19, in execute return self.cursor.execute(sql, params) ProgrammingError: column "price_eur" specified more than once LINE 1: ...NTO "shop_car" ("name", "price_eur", "price_usd", "price_eur... ^

  • Django: CharField with fixed length, how?

    - by Giovanni Di Milia
Hi everybody, I wold like to have in my model a CharField with fixed length. In other words I want that only a specified length is valid. I tried to do something like volumenumber = models.CharField('Volume Number', max_length=4, min_length=4) but it gives me an error (it seems that I can use both max_length and min_length at the same time). Is there another quick way? Thanks EDIT: Following the suggestions of some people I will be a bit more specific: My model is this: class Volume(models.Model): vid = models.AutoField(primary_key=True) jid = models.ForeignKey(Journals, db_column='jid', null=True, verbose_name = "Journal") volumenumber = models.CharField('Volume Number') date_publication = models.CharField('Date of Publication', max_length=6, blank=True) class Meta: db_table = u'volume' verbose_name = "Volume" ordering = ['jid', 'volumenumber'] unique_together = ('jid', 'volumenumber') def __unicode__(self): return (str(self.jid) + ' - ' + str(self.volumenumber)) What I want is that the volumenumber must be exactly 4 characters. I.E. if someone insert '4b' django gives an error because it expects a string of 4 characters. So I tried with volumenumber = models.CharField('Volume Number', max_length=4, min_length=4) but it gives me this error: Validating models... Unhandled exception in thread started by <function inner_run at 0x70feb0> Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/core/management/commands/runserver.py", line 48, in inner_run self.validate(display_num_errors=True) File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 249, in validate num_errors = get_validation_errors(s, app) File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/core/management/validation.py", line 28, in get_validation_errors for (app_name, error) in get_app_errors().items(): File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/db/models/loading.py", line 131, in get_app_errors self._populate() File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/db/models/loading.py", line 58, in _populate self.load_app(app_name, True) File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/db/models/loading.py", line 74, in load_app models = import_module('.models', app_name) File "/Library/Python/2.5/site-packages/django/utils/importlib.py", line 35, in import_module __import__(name) File "/Users/Giovanni/src/djangoTestSite/../djangoTestSite/journaldb/models.py", line 120, in <module> class Volume(models.Model): File "/Users/Giovanni/src/djangoTestSite/../djangoTestSite/journaldb/models.py", line 123, in Volume volumenumber = models.CharField('Volume Number', max_length=4, min_length=4) TypeError: __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'min_length' That obviously doesn't appear if I use only "max_length" OR "min_length". I read the documentation on the django web site and it seems that I'm right (I cannot use both together) so I'm asking if there is another way to solve the problem. Thanks again

  • django-registration with paypal integration

    - by GrumpyCanuck
I'm trying to figure out how to integrate django-registration with django-paypal. Being a Django n00b, I'm trying to figure out how to implement a flow like this: User signs up using django-registation with 'active' flag set to 0 After registering, send user to PayPal for a subscription When they come back from PayPal successfully, I want to set 'active' to 1 I've been looking at the django-registration documentation and don't quite understand how to use different backends or implement a flow the way I want. Any tips on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. django-paypal won't be a problem for me as I've done PayPal integration before (in PHP for a self-published book about CakePHP).

  • Break nested loop in Django views.py with a function

    - by knuckfubuck
I have a nested loop that I would like to break out of. After searching this site it seems the best practice is to put the nested loop into a function and use return to break out of it. Is it acceptable to have functions inside the views.py file that are not a view? What is the best practice for the location of this function? Here's the example code from inside my views.py @login_required def save_bookmark(request): if request.method == 'POST': form = BookmarkSaveForm(request.POST) if form.is_valid(): bookmark_list = Bookmark.objects.all() for bookmark in bookmark_list: for link in bookmark.link_set.all(): if link.url == form.cleaned_data['url']: # Do something. break else: # Do something else. else: form = BookmarkSaveForm() return render_to_response('save_bookmark_form.html', {'form': form})

  • how to write re-usable views in django?

    - by rz
These are the techniques that I use regularly to make my views reusable: take the template_name as an argument with a default take an optional extra_context which defaults to empty {} right before the template is rendered the context is updated with the extra_context for further re-usability, call any callable in extra_context.values() whenever the view deals with a queryset, there is a queryset argument with a default whenever the view needs a particular object from the ORM, it attempts to fetch it using any "id" parameter in several ways (e.g. as a slug, as a database id) (this may be a bad practice...) First, Should I add anything to my list? Should I remove anything from my list? The items accommodates a large number of cases. However, whenever an app extends a model of another in some way (e.g. adding a field or changing the behavior in some way) I end up writing my own views and only reusing the model. Is this normal?

  • Django - Tips to avoid repeating code in views

    - by D Roddis
I'm moving from a PHP background into Django development via python, mostly for the sake of tackling a MVC (or MVT) that I feel makes the most sense, although in this pattern I've started to notice a lot of repeated code in my views. For example, when logged in I have information regarding the user that I would like to appear on every page, although when using render_to_response and in every view this is required I have to grab the information and pass it to the render_to_response function. I'm wondering what would be the most efficient way to cut down on the duplicate code which would in essence be required in all views in a particular app. Thanks in advance.

  • How to render a POST and make it show up on another page

    - by stack5914
    I'm trying to create a marketplace website similar to craigslist. I created a form according to the Django tutorial "Working with forms", but I don't know how to render information I got from the POST forms. I want to make information(subject,price...etc) that I got from POST show up on another page like this. http://bakersfield.craigslist.org/atq/3375938126.html and, I want the "Subject"(please look at form.py) of this product(eg.1960 French Chair) to show up on another page like this. http://bakersfield.craigslist.org/ata/ } Can I get some advice to handle submitted information? Here's present codes. I'll appreciate all your answers and helps. <-! Here's my codes -- ?forms.py from django import forms class SellForm(forms.Form): subject = forms.CharField(max_length=100) price = forms.CharField(max_length=100) condition = forms.CharField(max_length=100) email = forms.EmailField() body = forms.TextField() ?views.py from django.shortcuts import render, render_to_response from django.http import HttpResponseRedirect from site1.forms import SellForm def sell(request): if request.method =="POST": form =SellForm(request.POST) if form.is_valid(): subject = form.cleaned_data['subject'] price = form.cleaned_data['price'] condition = form.cleaned_data['condition'] email = form.cleaned_data['email'] body = form.cleaned_data['body'] return HttpResponseRedirect('/books/') else: form=SellForm() render(request, 'sell.html',{'form':form,}) ?urls.py from django.conf.urls import patterns, include, url from django.contrib import admin admin.autodiscover() urlpatterns = patterns('', url(r'^sechand/$','site1.views.sell'), url(r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), ) ?sell.html <form action = "/sell/" method = "post">{% csrf_token%} {{ form.as_p }} <input type = "submit" value="Submit" /> </form>

  • Abstract class + Inheritance vs Interface

    - by RealityDysfunction
Hello fellow programmers, I am reading a book on C# and the author is comparing Abstract classes and Interfaces. He claims that if you have the following "abstract class:" abstract class CloneableType { public abstract object Clone(); } Then you cannot do this: public class MiniVan : Car, CloneableType {} This, I understand. However he claims that because of this inability to do multiple inheritance that you should use an interface for CloneableType, like so: public interface ICloneable { object Clone(); } My question is, isn't this somewhat misleading, because you can create an abstract class which is "above" class Car with the method Clone, then have Car inherit that class and then Minivan will inherit Car with all these methods, CloneAble class - Car class - Minivan Class. What do you think? Thanks.

  • High Performance SQL Views Using WITH(NOLOCK)

    - by gt0084e1
Every now and then you find a simple way to make everything much faster. We often find customers creating data warehouses or OLAP cubes even though they have a relatively small amount of data (a few gigs) compared to their server memory. If you have more server memory than the size of your database or working set, nearly any aggregate query should run in a second or less. In some situations there may be high traffic on from the transactional application and SQL server may wait for several other queries to run before giving you your results. The purpose of this is make sure you don’t get two versions of the truth. In an ATM system, you want to give the bank balance after the withdrawal, not before or you may get a very unhappy customer. So by default databases are rightly very conservative about this kind of thing. Unfortunately this split-second precision comes at a cost. The performance of the query may not be acceptable by today’s standards because the database has to maintain locks on the server. Fortunately, SQL Server gives you a simple way to ask for the current version of the data without the pending transactions. To better facilitate reporting, you can create a view that includes these directives. CREATE VIEW CategoriesAndProducts AS SELECT * FROM dbo.Categories WITH(NOLOCK) INNER JOIN dbo.Products WITH(NOLOCK) ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Products.CategoryID In some cases quires that are taking minutes end up taking seconds. Much easier than moving the data to a separate database and it’s still pretty much real time give or take a few milliseconds. You’ve been warned not to use this for bank balances though. • Why should I declare a class as an abstract class?

    - by Pied Piper
I know the syntax, rules applied to abstract class and I want know usage of an abstract class Abstract class can not be instantiated directly but can be extended by other class What is the advantage of doing so? How it is different from an Interface? I know that one class can implement multiple interfaces but can only extend one abstract class. Is that only difference between an interface and an abstract class? I am aware about usage of an Interface. I have learned that from Event delegation model of AWT in Java. In which situations I should declare class as an abstract class? What is benefits of that?

  • Javascript error when integrating django-tinymce and django-filebrowser

  • django shopping cart as a beginner

    - by Jacques Knie
Hi, i'm quite new to django and trying to add a shopping cart to a simple webshop. What I need is a simple cart that can be filled and presents its content, which is then sent to the vendor via email. So Satchmo might be too big for this task. Therefore i chose django-cart (http://code.google.com/p/django-cart/) which causes some problems now. 1. Is django-cart the right thing? Or are there any better approaches to this task? 2. As I am a beginner even django-cart makes me struggle. I used the view and the template of the django-cart-website, but writing a form that can be used to add products to the cart took me hours. I probably need help in understanding the general layout of a shopping cart and its integration into a website. 3. Two more specific questions: Is it possible to dynamically populate a formfield in a template (e.g. with {{ object.id }})? Is django-cart able to change (update) the contents of a cart? I hope it's not too many questions at once. Thanks in advance Jacques

  • Python: query a class's parent-class after multiple derivations ("super()" does not work)

    - by henry
Hi, I have built a class-system that uses multiple derivations of a baseclass (object-class1-class2-class3): class class1(object): def __init__(self): print "class1.__init__()" object.__init__(self) class class2(class1): def __init__(self): print "class2.__init__()" class1.__init__(self) class class3(class2): def __init__(self): print "class3.__init__()" class2.__init__(self) x = class3() It works as expected and prints: class3.__init__() class2.__init__() class1.__init__() Now I would like to replace the 3 lines object.__init__(self) ... class1.__init__(self) ... class2.__init__(self) with something like this: currentParentClass().__init__() ... currentParentClass().__init__() ... currentParentClass().__init__() So basically, i want to create a class-system where i don't have to type "classXYZ.doSomething()". As mentioned above, I want to get the "current class's parent-class". Replacing the three lines with: super(type(self), self).__init__() does NOT work (it always returns the parent-class of the current instance - class2) and will result in an endless loop printing: class3.__init__() class2.__init__() class2.__init__() class2.__init__() class2.__init__() ... So is there a function that can give me the current class's parent-class? Thank you for your help! Henry -------------------- Edit: @Lennart ok maybe i got you wrong but at the moment i think i didn't describe the problem clearly enough. So this example might explain it better: lets create another child-class class class4(class3): pass now what happens if we derive an instance from class4? y = class4() i think it clearly executes: super(class3, self).__init__() which we can translate to this: class2.__init__(y) this is definitly not the goal(that would be class3.__init__(y)) Now making lots of parent-class-function-calls - i do not want to re-implement all of my functions with different base-class-names in my super()-calls.

  • Where to delete model image?

    - by WesDec
I have a Model with an image field and I want to be able to change the image using a ModelForm. When changing the image, the old image should be deleted and replaced by the new image. I have tried to do this in the clean method of the ModelForm like this: def clean(self): cleaned_data = super(ModelForm, self).clean() old_profile_image = self.instance.image if old_profile_image: old_profile_image.delete(save=False) return cleaned_data This works fine unless the file indicated by the user is not correct (for example if its not an image), which result in the image being deleted without any new images being saved. I would like to know where is the best place to delete the old image? By this I mean where can I be sure that the new image is correct before deleting the old one?

  • How can I run .aggregate() on a field introduced using .extra(select={...}) in a Django Query?

    - by Jake
I'm trying to get the count of the number of times a player played each week like this: player.game_objects.extra(select={'week': 'WEEK(`games_game`.`date`)'}).aggregate(count=Count('week')) But Django complains that FieldError: Cannot resolve keyword 'week' into field. Choices are: <lists model fields> I can do it in raw SQL like this SELECT WEEK(date) as week, COUNT(WEEK(date)) as count FROM games_game WHERE player_id = 3 GROUP BY week Is there a good way to do this without executing raw SQL in Django?

  • How can I download django-1.2 and use it across multiple sites when the system default is 1.1?

    - by meder
I'm on Debian Lenny and the latest backports django is 1.1.1 final. I don't want to use sid so I probably have to download django. I have my sites located at: /www/ and I plan on using mod_wsgi with Apache2 as a reverse proxy from nginx. Now that I downloaded pip and virtualenv through pip, can someone explain how I could get my /www/ sites which are yet to be made to all use django-1.2? Question 1.1: Where do you suggest I download django-1.2? I know you can store it anywhere but where would you store it? Question 1.2: After installing it how do you actually tie that django-1.2 instead of the system default django 1.2 to the reverse proxied Apache conf? I would prefer it if answers were more specific than vague and have examples of setups.

  • Advantages of Singleton Class over Static Class?

    Point 1)Singleton We can get the object of singleton and then pass to other methods.Static Class We can not pass static class to other methods as we pass objectsPoint 2) Singleton In future, it is easy to change the logic of of creating objects to some pooling mechanism. Static Class Very difficult to implement some pooling logic in case of static class. We would need to make that class as non-static and then make all the methods non-static methods, So entire your code needs to be changed.Point3:) Singleton Can Singletone class be inherited to subclass? Singleton class does not say any restriction of Inheritence. So we should be able to do this as long as subclass is also inheritence.There's nothing fundamentally wrong with subclassing a class that is intended to be a singleton. There are many reasons you might want to do it. and there are many ways to accomplish it. It depends on language you use.Static Class We can not inherit Static class to another Static class in C#. Think about it this way: you access static members via type name, like this: MyStaticType.MyStaticMember(); Were you to inherit from that class, you would have to access it via the new type name: MyNewType.MyStaticMember(); Thus, the new item bears no relationships to the original when used in code. There would be no way to take advantage of any inheritance relationship for things like polymorphism. span.fullpost {display:none;}
