  • How to display full documentation of a method as you type in VS?

    The title is pretty descriptive... Is there any extension that let me see FULL documentation of the method I'm typing ? I would like to see the documentation as I can see it in Object Browser with description of parameters and everything not just some "summary". So what I'd like to see when I type String.Format is: Of cause with an option to see all overrides. It may be part of intelisence or I don't know what it does not really matter.

  • Generating HTML Help files based on XML documentation

    Since discovering the XML commenting features built into .NET years ago I have been using it to help make my code more readable and simpler for other developers to understand exactly what the code is doing. Entering /// preceding a line of code causes Visual Studio to insert "summary" tags.  It also results in additional tags being generated if you are commenting a method with parameters and a return type. I already knew that Intellisense would pick up these comments and display them when coding and selecting properties, methods, etc. from a class.  I also knew that you could set Visual Studio to generate an XML file containing said comments.  Only recently did I begin to wonder if I could generate some kind of readable help files based on these comments I so diligently added. After searching the web I came across NDoc, an open source project which creates documentation for you based on the XML files generated by Visual Studio.  Unfortunately, NDoc has become stale and no longer supported (last release was back in 2005). Fortunately there is a little known tool from Microsoft themselves called "Sandcastle Help File Builder".  This nifty little tool gives you a graphical interface that allows you to specify multiple DLL and XML files from which to generate a MSDN like HTML Help File for your own projects!   • Random Map Generation in Java

    I'm starting/started a 2D tilemap RPG game in Java and I want to implement random map generation. I have a list of different tiles, (dirt/sand/stone/grass/gravel etc) along with water tiles and path tiles, the problem I have is that I have no idea where to start on generating a map randomly. It would need to have terrain sections (Like a part of it will be sand, part dirt etc) Similar to how Minecraft is where you have different biomes and they seamlessly transform into each other. Lastly I would also need to add random paths into this as well going in different directions all over the map. I'm not asking anyone to write me all the code or anything, just piont me into the right direction please. tl;dr - Generate a tile map with biomes, paths and make sure the biomes seamlessly go into each other. Any help would be much appreciated! :) Thank you.

    Can anyone recommend a tile map generator (written in Java is a plus), where one can control some land types? For example: islands, large continents, singe large continent, archipelago, etc. I've been reading through many posts on the subject, it almost seems like many are just rolling their own. Before creating my own, I'm wondering if there's already an open source implementation that I might not be finding. If not, it seems like using Perlin Noise is a popular choice.   • Random/Procedural vs. Previously Made Level Generation

    I am making a game (called "Glory") that is a top-down explorer game, and am wondering what the advantages/disadvantages of using random/procedural generation vs. pre-made levels are. There seems to be few that i can think of, other than the fact that items may be a problem to distribute in randomly generated terrain, and that the generated terrain may look weird. The downside to previously made levels is that I would need to make a level editor, though. I cannot decide what is better to use.

    I'm using DELL inspiron 5420 (14R 3rd generation), and tried to install ubuntu 10.10, 11.10, 12.04, 12.04.1 but each and every time it doesn't support any of my driver such as network card, wireless driver, video driver and as well as audio and touch-pad driver. audio, video and touch-pad works with their basic functionality but don't work with their full functionality. I'm a new user of ubuntu, and willing to use it permanently. In this condition I tried some solutions from the web but didn't get out from this problem. For this I'm knocking to you, If you give me the proper solution for getting out of this problem, I'll be very helpful to you all. Thanks

  • Is it a good idea to keep documentation in the VCS?

    At work we just moved to Mercurial for our VCS from SVN. In SVN we used to have a "docs" folder next to "trunk", in "docs" we would keep all our file documentation, client files, diagrams, mockups, etc. (we use a wiki(Redmine) for internal documentation). Now in a DVCS enviroment we don't need a "trunk" folder, so we drop the code at the root of the repo, and now having a "docs" folder inside the repo feels weird being at the same level that the code. This has taken me to reconsider if it is a good idea to keep those files in the VCS, we have a "documents" section in Redmine, but I have never used it because it is a pain to have to download a file each time I want to open it and I can't access the file when I'm offline. What best practices have you guys found to manage these kind of non-code files?

  • Screen problems on 11.10 using VGA compatible controller 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

    I am having problems with my display. The problem manifests as lots of screen artefacts, which seem to be worse in Unity than in Gnome 3, are worse after i have used suspend and are intolerable if i set myself up on a dual monitor. Specific issues include: icons disappearing, lines occurring all over the screen, the backgrounds of certain windows going another colour and window borders disappearing or being filled with text from other parts of the screen. The most annoying problem is lines of text disappearing from a host of word processing programmes (libreoffice, gedit, bluefish etc), as i type. In most circumstances the screen problem can be temporarily fixed (so that i can see the screen clearly) by either scrolling the text off the screen and then scrolling it back onto the screen, or highlighting the offending area of the desktop, by clicking and dragging. Errors on parts of the screen that don't seem to redraw (window borders (off the universal menu) or the screen area outside of a LO document, in print layout view, for example) can't seem to be fixed in a session. If anyone knows if this is a known bug it'd be great to know, otherwise i'll file a report. Should anyone know of a fix i would greatly appreciate hearing about it.   • How to discriminate commented code and documentation comments

    After using version control tools, it is no longer necessary to comment out old code. However, some team members still comment out old code. Therefore, I want to clean them up. I want to mark commented lines which are really comments / documentation, so that every time I do not need to re-read all commented regions. The unmarked lines left are new commented code. How do I achieve this? Any existing tools or need to write on my own? Similar concept: in git, we have 'partial commit' to select some lines to commit. However, the lines marked in 'partial commit' is valid once only.
