  • Why don't my groovy enums work, or even compile?

    - by ?????
    I'm running Groovy Version: 1.7.0 JVM: 1.6.0_17 (Update -- I just upgraded to 1.7.1 and get the same errors!) I've tried to use enums, using the exact syntax from the groovy documentation, and each time I see the compile error: Groovy:The class java.lang.Enum refers to the class java.lang.Enum and uses 1 parameters, but the referred class takes no parameters Any ideas on what's going on? For example: This code won't compile or run, and gets the error above. enum VehicleStatus { OFF, IDLING, ACCELERATING, DECELARATING } class Vehicle { Long id Long version VehicleStatus status }

  • Help with enums in Java

    - by devoured elysium
Is it possible to have an enum change its value (from inside itself)? Maybe it's easier to understand what I mean with code: enum Rate { VeryBad(1), Bad(2), Average(3), Good(4), Excellent(5); private int rate; private Rate(int rate) { this.rate = rate; } public void increateRating() { //is it possible to make the enum variable increase? //this is, if right now this enum has as value Average, after calling this //method to have it change to Good? } } This is want I wanna achieve: Rate rate = Rate.Average; System.out.println(rate); //prints Average; rate.increaseRating(); System.out.println(rate); //prints Good Thanks

  • An Open Letter from Lyle Ekdahl, Group Vice President and General Manager, Oracle's JD Edwards

    - by Brian Dayton
From Lyle Ekdahl, Group Vice President and General Manager, Oracle's JD Edwards As you may have heard, we recently announced some changes to the way Oracle will offer licensing of technology products with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Specifically, we have withdrawn from new sales the product known as JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Technology Foundation ("Blue Stack"). Our motivation for this change is simply to streamline licensing for our customers. Going forward, customers will license Oracle products from Oracle and IBM products from IBM. Customers who are currently licensed for Technology Foundation will continue to receive support--unchanged--through September 30, 2016. This announcement affects how customers license these IBM products; it does not affect Oracle's certification roadmap for IBM products with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Customers who are currently running their JD Edwards EnterpriseOne infrastructure using IBM platform components can continue to do so regardless of whether they license these components via Technology Foundation or directly from IBM. New customers choosing to run JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on IBM technology should license JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Core Tools from Oracle while licensing Infrastructure and any licenses of IBM products from IBM. For more information about this announcement, customers should refer to My Oracle Support article 1232453.1 Questions included in the "Frequently Asked Questions" document on My Oracle Support: Is Oracle dropping support for IBM DB2 and IBM WebSphere with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne? No. This announcement affects how customers license these IBM products; it does not affect Oracle's certification roadmap for these products. The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne matrix of supported databases, web servers, and portals remains unchanged, including planned support for IBM DB2, IBM WebSphere Application Server, and IBM WebSphere Portal. Customers who are currently running their JD Edwards EnterpriseOne infrastructure using IBM platform components can continue to do so regardless of whether they license these components via Technology Foundation or directly from IBM. As always, the timing and versions of such third-party certifications remain at Oracle's discretion. Does this announcement mean that Oracle is withdrawing support for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on the IBM i platform? Absolutely not. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne support on the IBM i platform remains unchanged. This announcement simply states that customers will acquire Oracle products from Oracle and IBM products from IBM. In fact, as evidenced by the recent "IBM i Solution Edition for JD Edwards" offering, IBM and the JD Edwards product teams continue to innovate and offer attractive, cost-competitive solutions to the ERP marketplace. For more information about this offering see: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/i/advantages/oracle/. I hope this clarifies any concerns. Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. -Lyle

  • Selected Item in Dropdown Lists from Enum in ASP.net MVC

    - by AlexCuse
Sorry if this is a dup, my searching turned up nothing. I am using the following method to generate drop down lists for enum types (lifted from here: http://addinit.com/?q=node/54): public static string DropDownList(this HtmlHelper helper, string name, Type type, object selected) { if (!type.IsEnum) throw new ArgumentException("Type is not an enum."); if(selected != null && selected.GetType() != type) throw new ArgumentException("Selected object is not " + type.ToString()); var enums = new List<SelectListItem>(); foreach (int value in Enum.GetValues(type)) { var item = new SelectListItem(); item.Value = value.ToString(); item.Text = Enum.GetName(type, value); if(selected != null) item.Selected = (int)selected == value; enums.Add(item); } return System.Web.Mvc.Html.SelectExtensions.DropDownList(helper, name, enums, "--Select--"); } It is working fine, except for one thing. If I give the dropdown list the same name as the property on my model the selected value is not set properly. Meaning this works: <%= Html.DropDownList("fam", typeof(EnumFamily), Model.Family)%> But this doesn't: <%= Html.DropDownList("family", typeof(EnumFamily), Model.Family)%> Because I'm trying to pass an entire object directly to the controller method I am posting to, I would really like to have the dropdown list named for the property on the model. When using the "right" name, the dropdown does post correctly, I just can't seem to set the selected value. I don't think this matters but I am running MVC 1 on mono 2.6

  • Enum "does not have a no-arg default constructor" with Jaxb and cxf

    - by Dave
A client is having an issue running java2ws on some of their code, which uses & extends classes that are consumed from my SOAP web services. Confused yet? :) I'm exposing a SOAP web service (JBoss5, Java 6). Someone is consuming that web service with Axis1 and creating a jar out of it with the data types and client stubs. They are then defining their own type, which extends one of my types. My type contains an enumeration. class MyParent { private MyEnumType myEnum; // getters, settters for myEnum; } class TheirChild extends MyParent { ... } When they are running java2ws on their code (which extends my class), they get Caused by: com.sun.xml.bind.v2.runtime.IllegalAnnotationsException: 2 counts of IllegalAnnotationExceptions net.foo.bar.MyEnuMType does not have a no-arg default constructor. this problem is related to the following location: at net.foo.bar.MyEnumType at public net.foo.bar.MyEnumType net.foo.bar.MyParent.getMyEnum() The enum I've defined is below. This is now how it comes out after being consumed, but it's how I have it defined on the app server: @XmlType(name = "MyEnumType") @XmlEnum public enum MyEnumType { Val1("Val1"), Val2("Val2") private final String value; MyEnumType(String v) { value = v; } public String value() { return value; } public static MyEnumType fromValue(String v) { if (v == null || v.length() == 0) { return null; } if (v.equals("Val1")) { return MyEnumType.Val1; } if (v.equals("Val2")) { return MyEnumType.Val2; } return null; } } I've seen things online and other posts, like (this one) regarding Jaxb's inability to handle Lists or things like that, but I'm baffled about my enum. I'm pretty sure you can't have a default constructor for an enum (well, at least a public no-arg constructor, Java yells at me when I try), so I'm not sure what makes this error possible. Any ideas? Also, the "2 counts of IllegalAnnotationsExceptions" may be because my code actually has two enums that are written similarly, but I left them out of this example for brevity.

  • forward/strong enum in VS2010

    - by Noah Roberts
At http://blogs.msdn.com/vcblog/archive/2010/04/06/c-0x-core-language-features-in-vc10-the-table.aspx there is a table showing C++0x features that are implemented in 2010 RC. Among them are listed forwarding enums and strongly typed enums but they are listed as "partial". The main text of the article says that this means they are either incomplete or implemented in some non-standard way. So I've got VS2010RC and am playing around with the C++0x features. I can't figure these ones out and can't find any documentation on these two features. Not even the simplest attempts compile. enum class E { test }; int main() {} fails with: 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(518): error C2332: 'enum' : missing tag name 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(518): error C2236: unexpected 'class' 'E'. Did you forget a ';'? 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(518): error C3381: 'E' : assembly access specifiers are only available in code compiled with a /clr option 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(518): error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '}' 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(518): error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ========== int main() { enum E : short; } Fails with: 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(513): warning C4480: nonstandard extension used: specifying underlying type for enum 'main::E' 1e:\dev_workspace\experimental\2010_feature_assessment\2010_feature_assessment\main.cpp(513): error C2059: syntax error : ';' ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ========== So it seems it must be some totally non-standard implementation that has allowed them to justify calling this feature "partially" done. How would I rewrite that code to access the forwarding and strong type feature?

  • Trying to convert existing production database table columns from enum to VARCHAR (Rails)

    - by dchua
Hi everyone, I have a problem that needs me to convert my existing live production (I've duplicated the schema on my local development box, don't worry :)) table column types from enums to a string. Background: Basically, a previous developer left my codebase in absolute shit, migration versions are extremely out of date, and apparently he never used it after a certain point of time in development and now that I'm tasked with migrating a rails 1.2.6 app to 2.3.5, I can't get the tests to run properly on 2.3.5 because my table columns have ENUM column types and they convert to :string, :limit = 0 on my schema.rb which creates the problem of an invalid default value when doing a rake db:test:prepare, like in the case of: Mysql::Error: Invalid default value for 'own_vehicle': CREATE TABLE `lifestyles` (`id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL auto_increment PRIMARY KEY, `member_id` int(11) DEFAULT 0 NOT NULL, `own_vehicle` varchar(0) DEFAULT 'Y' NOT NULL, `hobbies` text, `sports` text, `AStar_activities` text, `how_know_IRC` varchar(100), `IRC_referral` varchar(200), `IRC_others` varchar(100), `IRC_rdrive` varchar(30)) ENGINE=InnoDB I'm thinking of writing a migration task that looks through all the database tables for columns with enum and replace it with VARCHAR and I'm wondering if this is the right way to approach this problem. I'm also not very sure how to write it such that it would loop through my database tables and replace all ENUM colum_types with a VARCHAR. References [1] https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994/tickets/997-dbschemadump-saves-enum-columns-as-varchar0-on-mysql [2] http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/2832

  • .NET: bool vs enum as a method parameter

    - by Julien Lebosquain
Each time I'm writing a method that takes a boolean parameter representing an option, I find myself thinking: "should I replace this by an enum which would make reading the method calls much easier?". Consider the following with an object that takes a parameter telling whether the implementation should use its thread-safe version or not (I'm not asking here if this way of doing this is good design or not, only the use of the boolean): public void CreateSomeObject(bool makeThreadSafe); CreateSomeObject(true); When the call is next to the declaration the purpose of the parameter seems of course obvious. When it's in some third party library you barely know, it's harder to immediately see what the code does, compared to: public enum CreationOptions { None, MakeThreadSafe } public void CreateSomeObject(CreationOptions options); CreateSomeObject(CreationOptions.MakeThreadSafe); which describes the intent far better. Things get worse when there's two boolean parameters representing options. See what happened to ObjectContext.SaveChanges(bool) between Framework 3.5 and 4.0. It has been obsoleted because a second option has been introduced and the whole thing has been converted to an enum. While it seems obvious to use an enumeration when there's three elements or more, what's your opinion and experiences about using an enum instead a boolean in these specific cases?

  • how do I use an enum value on a switch statement in C++

    - by BotBotPgm
I would like to use an enum value for my switch statment in C++. Is it possible to use the enum values enclosed in the "{}" as choices for the "switch()"? I know that switch() needs an integer value in order to direct the flow of programming to the appropriate case number. If this is the case, do I just make a variable for each constant in the 'enum' statment? I also want the user to be able to pick the choice and pass that choice to the switch() statement. for example: cout<< "1 - Easy"; cout<<"2 - Medium"; cout<< "3 -Hard"; enum myChoice {EASY =1 ,MEDIUM = 2, HARD = 3} cin ???? switch(????) case 1/EASY: (can I just type case EAST?) cout << "You picked easy!"; break; case 2/MEDIUM: cout << "You picked medium!"; case 3..... (same thing as case 2 except on hard.) default: return 0; Thanks

  • ROracle support for TimesTen In-Memory Database

    - by Sam Drake
Today's guest post comes from Jason Feldhaus, a Consulting Member of Technical Staff in the TimesTen Database organization at Oracle.  He shares with us a sample session using ROracle with the TimesTen In-Memory database.  Beginning in version 1.1-4, ROracle includes support for the Oracle Times Ten In-Memory Database, version 11.2.2. TimesTen is a relational database providing very fast and high throughput through its memory-centric architecture.  TimesTen is designed for low latency, high-volume data, and event and transaction management. A TimesTen database resides entirely in memory, so no disk I/O is required for transactions and query operations. TimesTen is used in applications requiring very fast and predictable response time, such as real-time financial services trading applications and large web applications. TimesTen can be used as the database of record or as a relational cache database to Oracle Database. ROracle provides an interface between R and the database, providing the rich functionality of the R statistical programming environment using the SQL query language. ROracle uses the OCI libraries to handle database connections, providing much better performance than standard ODBC.The latest ROracle enhancements include: Support for Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database Support for Date-Time using R's POSIXct/POSIXlt data types RAW, BLOB and BFILE data type support Option to specify number of rows per fetch operation Option to prefetch LOB data Break support using Ctrl-C Statement caching support Times Ten 11.2.2 contains enhanced support for analytics workloads and complex queries: Analytic functions: AVG, SUM, COUNT, MAX, MIN, DENSE_RANK, RANK, ROW_NUMBER, FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE Analytic clauses: OVER PARTITION BY and OVER ORDER BY Multidimensional grouping operators: Grouping clauses: GROUP BY CUBE, GROUP BY ROLLUP, GROUP BY GROUPING SETS Grouping functions: GROUP, GROUPING_ID, GROUP_ID WITH clause, which allows repeated references to a named subquery block Aggregate expressions over DISTINCT expressions General expressions that return a character string in the source or a pattern within the LIKE predicate Ability to order nulls first or last in a sort result (NULLS FIRST or NULLS LAST in the ORDER BY clause) Note: Some functionality is only available with Oracle Exalytics, refer to the TimesTen product licensing document for details. Connecting to TimesTen is easy with ROracle. • Enum in WCF RIA Services Object

    - by Blake Blackwell
Is it possible to have an enum with WCF RIA Services? When I check the generated code for my custom POCO class I don't see the enum property generated. Here is an example of what I'm trying to do: public class Legend { public enum ViewStateType { OnExpanded = 1, OnContracted = 2, OffExpanded = 3, OffContracted = 4 } [Key] public Guid LegendId { get; set; } [EnumDataType(typeof(ViewStateType))] public ViewStateType ViewState { get; set; } } I tried with and without the EnumDataType attribute.

  • Fluent NHibernate Map Enum as Lookup Table

    - by Jaimal Chohan
I have the following (simplified) public enum Level { Bronze, Silver, Gold } public class Member { public virtual Level MembershipLevel { get; set; } } public class MemberMap : ClassMap<Member> { Map(x => x.MembershipLevel); } This creates a table with a column called MembershipLevel with the value as the Enum string value. What I want is for the entire Enum to be created as a lookup table, with the Membe table referencing this with the integer value as the FK. Also, I want to do this without bas***izing my model. Any ideas? [And I want time machine] [With 2 cup holders]

I have the following class: [MetadataAttribute] [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = false)] public class ModuleActivationButtonAttribute : ExportAttribute { public Enum TargetRegion { get; set; } public ModuleActivationButtonAttribute(Enum targetRegion) : base(typeof(IModuleActivationButton)) { TargetRegion = targetRegion; } } The class compiles fine, but when I decorate my property with it: [ModuleActivationButton(Regions.Tabs)] public IModuleActivationButton ModuleActivationButton { get { return new ModuleActivationButton() as IModuleActivationButton; } set { ModuleActivationButton = value; } } public enum Regions { Content, Tabs } The compiler spits out: Error 1 An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type C:\...\Manpower4U.Modules.Home\HomeModule.cs 28 33 Manpower4U.Modules.Home

  • Getting developers and support to work together

    - by Matt Watson
Agile development has ushered in the norm of rapid iterations and change within products. One of the biggest challenges for agile development is educating the rest of the company. At my last company our biggest challenge was trying to continually train 100 employees in our customer support and training departments. It's easy to write release notes and email them to everyone. But for complex software products, release notes are not usually enough detail. You really have to educate your employees on the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, WHEN of every item. If you don't do this, you end up with customer service people who know less about your product than your users do. Ever call a company and feel like you know more about their product than their customer service people do? Yeah. I'm talking about that problem.WHO does the change effect?WHAT was the actual change?WHERE do I find the change in the product?WHY was the change made? (It's hard to support something if you don't know why it was done.)WHEN will the change be released? One thing I want to stress is the importance of the WHY something was done. For customer support people to be really good at their job, they need to understand the product and how people use it. Knowing how to enable a feature is one thing. Knowing why someone would want to enable it, is a whole different thing and the difference in good customer service. Another challenge is getting support people to better test and document potential bugs before escalating them to development. Trying to fix bugs without examples is always fun... NOT. They might as well say "The sky is falling, please fix it!"We need to over train the support staff about product changes and continually stress how they document and test potential product bugs. You also have to train the sales staff and the marketing team. Then there is updating sales materials, your website, product documentation and other items there are always out of date. Every product release causes this vicious circle of trying to educate the rest of the company about the changes.Do we need to record a simple video explaining the changes and email it to everyone? Maybe we should  use a simple online training type app to help with this problem. Ultimately the struggle is taking the time to do the training, but it is time well spent. It may save you a lot of time answering questions and fixing bugs later. How do we efficiently transfer key product knowledge from developers and product owners to the rest of the company? How have you solved these issues at your company?

  • How to define enum in as3?

    - by Nava Carmon
Is there a way to define an enum in AS3 in a way we do it in other languages? I can define constants with defined values like that: private const CONST_1:int = 0; private const CONST_2:int = 1; private const CONST_3:int = 2; and so on. If I want to insert some other constant between 3 these I need to move all values like that: private const CONST_1:int = 0; private const CONST_2:int = 1; private const CONST_2A:int = 2; private const CONST_3:int = 3; while in other language I would end up with only adding a new member to enum closure like that: enum { CONST_1 = 0, CONST_2, CONST_2A, CONST_3 } MyConstEnum; Does AS3 has something similar? Thanks

  • Source Insight: Show me Enum Values

    - by JXG
I'm programming in C and using Source Insight. I have an enum type with a lot of constants (like 100). I have debug prints that print out variable values, but they (of course) print out as integers. What I'd like to do is click on the name of an enum constant, and see its numeric value displayed somewhere. (I've seen this done in a Visual Studio plugin, so it must be possible.) That is, assume I have enum colors { ORANGE, PURPLE, PINK }; I want to click on (or select, or something) PURPLE and see the value 1 somewhere visible (ideally, the symbol window or context window, but I'm not particular). Is there an easy way to do this in Source Insight? Is there a difficult way, at least (such as writing a macro)?

  • MySQL SET and ENUM types in CakePHP framework

    - by Andrew Bashtannik
Hi! I need to use SET and ENUM types in my CakePHP 1.3 project. I found some advices, but all them are too old (2004-2006) and full of crazy methods, like modifying cake's core files. Also, CakePHP developers said that SET and ENUM types are not supported. Example: I have SET('alpha','beta') field, and I need to use this data as checkboxes in add & edit actions. Is there any way to add normal support (Form helpers etc.) of SET and ENUM fields?

  • Constraining enum value in method parameter

    - by fearofawhackplanet
    enum Fruit { Banana, Orange, Strawberry ... ... // etc, very long enum } PeelFruit(Fruit.Orange); PeelFruit(Fruit.Banana); PeelFruit(Fruit.Strawberry); // huh? can't peel strawberries! Sorry for the lame example, but hopefully you get the idea. Is there a way to constrain the enum values that PeelFruit will accept? Obvisouly I could check them in the method with a switch or something, but it would be cool if there was a way to do it that is a) a bit more compact, and b) would cause a compile time error, not a run time error. [Fruit = Orange,Bannana] void PeelFruit(Fruit fruit) { ... }
