  • Fixed or consistent mount location for a USB hard drive

    - by Journeyman Geek
    I store my music on an external hard drive, and play them with foobar2k. However, the drive letter changes, which usually means I need to rebuild a fairly large playlist every so often. I'm wondering if there's a way to reserve a drive letter for a specific external device (or type of device) by device ID or volume name, or if I'm better off using a NTFS mount point, and re-mounting the drive to a folder each time. I'm using either a Windows XP or 7 system, and the external drive is NTFS.

  • Lenovo Windows 8 EFI restore from image

    - by anderhil
    First time here. I have bought e530 with windows 8 and the first hour of work with it i have a problem. I have ssd with windows 7 which i want to use with my new e530. I have made a sysprep of win 7 and installed ssd to the e530. The HDD which was inside e530 i want to use as second hdd instead of my DVD Drive. I connected this HDD through usb-to-sata adapter to copy some files from ssd to the hdd. Unfortunately it didn't see the file system on the HDD (but first time i have booted to it and first boot into Windows 8) I've made some mistakes and i corrupt the filesystem on the hdd. I tried bunch of tricks to recover the GPT, but it didn't work. I have managed to recover the Lenovo_Recovery partition to my ssd using recovery tools. And now I'm stuck, with this new things to me - EFI, GPT, etc i don't how this stuff works, and i have been trying to understand this for hours - but nothing seems to work. I want to restore the Windows 8 to the hdd, so it is there alive. What i have done so far: Formated the HDD I took the PBRALL file from the Lenovo_Recovery " convert gpt create partition Primary size=1000 ID=DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001 assign letter=W format quick LABEL=WINRE_DRV create partition efi size=260 assign letter=s format quick fs=fat32 LABEL=SYSTEM_DRV create par msr size=128 create partition primary noerr assign letter=t format quick LABEL=Windows8_OS shrink desired=12197 create partition Primary ID=DE94BBA4-06D1-4D40-A16A-BFD50179D6AC gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001 assign letter=q format quick LABEL=Lenovo_Recovery " it recreated the partitions copied contents of SDRIVE.zip to SYSTEM_DRV partition copied contents of WDRIVE.zip to WINRE_DRV partition Copied restored Lenovo_Recovery back to Lenovo_Recovery partition So now I have 3 system partitions: SYSTE_DRV BOOT boot.sdi EFI BOOT bootx64.efi LenovoBT.efi Lenovo ... Microsoft ... WINRE_DRV\Recovery\WindowsRE\winre.wim Lenovo_Recovery (whic contains install.wim and bunch of other things) So i put back the HDD inside the laptop and tried to boot - but nothing works. It just doesn't boot to anything - no errors - nothing at all. When I choose this HDD manually for boot - just black screen blinks and that's all - it returns back to the devices boot menu. SYSTEM_DRV is EFI partition, so I don't understand why it doesn't boot, it has files needed inside. Can anybody tell me what should be done to make it boot to recovery console or smth like that? How to restore the Windows 8 from the Lenovo_Recovery install.wim image? As I understand I have all the files where they should be, but why it doesn't work? How to troubleshoot such things? Also, if somebody has good link where EFI booting process is explained in details that would be great. Cause i still don't understand how it knows what partition to boot?

  • How to use variables with regex?

    - by dontoo
    This is the input string: 23x^45*y or 2x^2 or y^4*x^3. I am matching ^[0-9]+ after letter x. In other words I am matching x followed by ^ followed by numbers. Problem is that I don't know that I am matching x, it could be any letter that I stored as variable in my char array. For example: foreach (char cEle in myarray) // cEle is letter in char array x, y, z, ... { match CEle in regex(input) //PSEUDOCODE } I am new to regex and I new that this can be done if I define regex variables, but I don't know how.

  • .NET equivalent to Perl regular expressions

    - by r_honey
    I need to convert a Perl script to VB.NET. I have managed almost the entire conversion, but some Perl (seemingly simple) regex are causing an headache. Can someone suggest me .NET equivalent of the following perl regex: 1) $letter =~ s/Users //,; $letter =~ s/Mailboxes //,; if($letter =~ m/$first_char/i){ 2) unless($storegroup =~ /Recovery/ || $storegroup =~ /Users U V W X Y Z/ || $storegroup =~ /Users S T/ || $storegroup =~ /Users Q R/){ The regex look simple to me. I tried to wade through perl.org but understanding a langugae regex takes sometime and I need to complete the conversion quickly.

  • Method in ICollection in C# that adds all elements of another ICollection to it

    - by drasto
    Is there some method in ICollection in C# that would add all elements of another collection? Right now I have to always write foreach cycle for this: ICollection<Letter> allLetters = ... //some initalization ICollection<Letter> justWrittenLetters = ... //some initalization ... //some code, adding to elements to those ICollections foreach(Letter newLetter in justWrittenLetters){ allLetters.add(newLetter); } My question is, is there method that can replace that cycle? Like for example the method addAll(Collection c) in Java ? So I would write only something like: allLetters.addAll(justWrittenLetters);

  • Edit Distance in Python

    - by Alice
    I'm programming a spellcheck program in Python. I have a list of valid words (the dictionary) and I need to output a list of words from this dictionary that have an edit distance of 2 from a given invalid word. I know I need to start by generating a list with an edit distance of one from the invalid word(and then run that again on all the generated words). I have three methods, inserts(...), deletions(...) and changes(...) that should output a list of words with an edit distance of 1, where inserts outputs all valid words with one more letter than the given word, deletions outputs all valid words with one less letter, and changes outputs all valid words with one different letter. I've checked a bunch of places but I can't seem to find an algorithm that describes this process. All the ideas I've come up with involve looping through the dictionary list multiple times, which would be extremely time consuming. If anyone could offer some insight, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks!

  • Reworking my singly linked list

    - by Stradigos
    Hello everyone, thanks for taking the time to stop by my question. Below you will find my working SLL, but I want to make more use of C# and, instead of having two classes, SLL and Node, I want to use Node's constructors to do all the work (To where if you pass a string through the node, the constructor will chop it up into char nodes). The problem is, after an a few hours of tinkering, I'm not really getting anywhere... using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.IO; namespace PalindromeTester { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { SLL mySLL = new SLL(); mySLL.add('a'); mySLL.add('b'); mySLL.add('c'); mySLL.add('d'); mySLL.add('e'); mySLL.add('f'); Console.Out.WriteLine("Node count = " + mySLL.count); mySLL.reverse(); mySLL.traverse(); Console.Out.WriteLine("\n The header is: " + mySLL.gethead); Console.In.ReadLine(); } class Node { private char letter; private Node next; public Node() { next = null; } public Node(char c) { this.data = c; } public Node(string s) { } public char data { get { return letter; } set { letter = value; } } public Node nextNode { get { return next; } set { next = value; } } } class SLL { private Node head; private int totalNode; public SLL() { head = null; totalNode = 0; } public void add(char s) { if (head == null) { head = new Node(); head.data = s; } else { Node temp; temp = new Node(); temp.data = s; temp.nextNode = head; head = temp; } totalNode++; } public int count { get { return totalNode; } } public char gethead { get { return head.data; } } public void traverse() { Node temp = head; while(temp != null) { Console.Write(temp.data + " "); temp = temp.nextNode; } } public void reverse() { Node q = null; Node p = this.head; while(p!=null) { Node r=p; p=p.nextNode; r.nextNode=q; q=r; } this.head = q; } } } } Here's what I have so far in trying to work it into Node's constructors: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.IO; namespace PalindromeTester { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { //Node myList = new Node(); //TextReader tr = new StreamReader("data.txt"); //string line; //while ((line = tr.ReadLine()) != null) //{ // Console.WriteLine(line); //} //tr.Close(); Node myNode = new Node("hello"); Console.Out.WriteLine(myNode.count); myNode.reverse(); myNode.traverse(); // Console.Out.WriteLine(myNode.gethead); Console.In.ReadLine(); } class Node { private char letter; private Node next; private Node head; private int totalNode; public Node() { head = null; totalNode = 0; } public Node(char c) { if (head == null) { head = new Node(); head.data = c; } else { Node temp; temp = new Node(); temp.data = c; temp.nextNode = head; head = temp; } totalNode++; } public Node(string s) { foreach (char x in s) { new Node(x); } } public char data { get { return letter; } set { letter = value; } } public Node nextNode { get { return next; } set { next = value; } } public void reverse() { Node q = null; Node p = this.head; while (p != null) { Node r = p; p = p.nextNode; r.nextNode = q; q = r; } this.head = q; } public void traverse() { Node temp = head; while (temp != null) { Console.Write(temp.data + " "); temp = temp.nextNode; } } public int count { get { return totalNode; } } } } } Ideally, the only constructors and methods I would be left with are Node(), Node(char c), Node(string s), Node reserve() and I'll be reworking traverse into a ToString overload. Any suggestions?

  • Creating combinations that have no more one intersecting element

    - by khuss
    I am looking to create a special type of combination in which no two sets have more than one intersecting element. Let me explain with an example: Let us say we have 9 letter set that contains A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I If you create the standard non-repeating combinations of three letters you will have 9C3 sets. These will contain sets like ABC, ABD, BCD, etc. I am looking to create sets that have at the most only 1 common letter. So in this example, we will get following sets: ABC, ADG, AEI, AFH, BEH, BFG, BDI, CFI, CDH, CEG, DEF, and GHI - note that if you take any two sets there are no more than 1 repeating letter. What would be a good way to generate such sets? It should be scalable solution so that I can do it for a set of 1000 letters, with sub set size of 4. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

  • running a program in Unix vs in Windows

    - by Hristo
    I'm compiling a simple program written in C and I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, both in Windows 7 and on my MacBook Pro. Very simple program my friend wrote and asked me to help him with: int a = 0; char b[2]; printf("Input first class info:\n"); printf("Credit Hours: \n"); scanf("%d", &a); printf("Letter Grade: "); scanf("%s", b); So when I run this on my mac, each line prints and when I encounter the scanf(), I can input and continue as expected. In Windows, I have to input everything and then it will print all the lines. I'm not sure why this is happening... what is the difference b/w Windows and Mac here? Mac: Input first class info: Credit Hours: 4 Letter Grade: B+ Windows: 4 B+ Input first class info: Credit Hours: Letter Grade: Thanks, Hristo

  • how to use random bits to simulate a fair 26-sided die?

    - by Michael Levin
    How do I use a random number generator that gives bits (0 or 1) to simulate a fair 26-sided die? I want to use a bitstream to pick letters of the English alphabet such that the odds of any one letter coming up is the same as the odds of any other letter (I know real words aren't like that and have specific frequency distributions for each letter but it doesn't matter here). What's the best way to use binary 0/1 decisions to pick letters fairly from the set A-Z? I can think of a few ways to map bits onto letters but it's not obvious to me that they won't be biased. Is there a known good way?

  • Xcode 5 new bug

    - by user2874675
    Since the recent IOS update last month I have been having issues with this new bug that has hampered my program. The bug is as follows: using a UIButton and I want to insert a value into it, only after my execution ends does a letter actually appear. But if I create a method during execution to tell me, using NSLog, what my properties contain then that letter I added never shows up. I'm thinking I need to find a way to refresh a property during execution instead in the end. For example: Let's say you want to insert the letter F into a UIButton. Immediately after writing F into that UIButton, look to see that F hasn't isn't in there. But it will only show up after that particular execution sequence finishes. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

  • Is there a method I can use across controllers and if so, how do I use it?

    - by Angela
    I have several controllers that take an instance of different classes each (Email, Call, Letter, etc) and they all have to go through this same substitution: @email.message.gsub!("{FirstName}", @contact.first_name) @email.message.gsub!("{Company}", @contact.company_name) @email.message.gsub!("{Colleagues}", @colleagues.to_sentence) @email.message.gsub!("{NextWeek}", (Date.today + 7.days).strftime("%A, %B %d")) @email.message.gsub!("{ContactTitle}", @contact.title ) So, for example, @call.message for Call, @letter.message for Letter, etcetera. This isn't very dry. I'd like to have something like def messagesub(asset) @asset.message.gsub.... end or something like that so I can just use messagesub method in each controller.

  • Data on the Frequency of Edit Operations Required to Correct a Misspelt Word

    - by gvkv
    Does anybody know of any data that relates to the frequency of the types of mistakes the people make when they misspell a word? I'm not referring to words themselves, but tje errors that are made by the typist. For example, I personally make transposition errors the most followed by deletion errors (that is, not including a letter I should), substitution errors and lastly, insertion errors. However, it would not surprise me to find out that typing a wrong letter (a substitution error, e.g., xat instead of cat) is more frequent than not including a letter. My purpose is to be able to make best guesses at correcting a word when I only have the original user's input. The idea being that if one type of error is more frequent than others, then it's more likely that correcting a word via that type of operation is correct. I don't object to using a database of commonly misspelt words but I prefer an algorithmic solution to depending on a corpus--especially if it might be faster.

  • How is this statement making sense? (Sun's naming convention for Java variables)

    - by polygenelubricants
    I've been quoting this segment from Sun's document for the past few days, and only now do I stop and think about what it's saying, and I can't make sense out of it. Please keep in mind that English is not my first language. Naming conventions Variables: Except for variables, all instance, class, and class constants are in mixed case with a lowercase first letter. How is this making sense? Isn't this saying that class names are in mixed case with a lowercase first letter? Like I should name it class myClass? And class constants are also in mixed case with a lowercase first letter? Like I should name it Integer.maxValue? And is it really saying anything about how variables themselves should be named? Am I not parsing this properly or is this actually a blatant error?

  • PHP split string into integer element and string

    - by David19801
    Hello, I have a string say: Order_num = "0982asdlkj" How can I split that into the 2 variables, with the number element and then another variable with the letter element in php? The number element can be any length from 1 to 4 say and the letter element fills the rest to make every order_num 10 characters long in total. I have found the php explode function...but don't know how to make it in my case because the number of numbers is between 1 and 4 and the letters are random after that, so no way to split at a particular letter. Please help as specifically as possible!

  • Python: Picking an element without replacement

    - by wpeters
    I would like to slice random letters from a string. Given s="howdy" I would like to pick elements from 's' without replacement but keep the index number. For example >>> random.sample(s,len(s)) ['w', 'h', 'o', 'd', 'y'] is close to what I want, but I would actually prefer something like [('w',2), ('h',0), ('o',1), ('d',3), ('y',4)] with letter-index pairs. This is important because the same letter appears in 's' more than once. ie) "letter" where 't' appears twice but I need to distinguish the first 't' from the 'second'. Ideally I actually only need to pick letters as I need them but scrambling and calculating all the letters in a list (as shown above) is ok.

  • When parsing XML with jquery, how can we pass the current node from within each() to another functio

    - by Johusa
    Say we have an XML document with many book nodes... When parsing XML with jquery, how can i pass the current node from each() iteration to another function that will do some stuff until something is reached and then go back to the previous function (passing along the current node from this function back to the first function)? Here something more descriptive (this is just an example out of my head, not accurate): function MyParser(x1,x2,dom) { // if i am called by anotherFunction(thisNode) proceed from the passed node dom.find('book').each(function() { var Letter = thisNode.find(author).charAt(0); if(x1 == Letter) { // print everything till the next letter (x2) anotherFunction(thisNode) } } } function anotherFunction(x2,thisNode) { //continue parsing here until you reached x2 //when x2 is reached, return to previous function passing again the current node }

  • to store char* from function return value

    - by samprat
    Hi folks, I am trying to implement a function which reads from Serial Port ( Linux) and retuns char*. The function works fine but how would I store return value from function. example of function is char *ReadToSerialPort() { char *bufptr; char buffer[256]; // Input buffer/ / //char *bufptr; // Current char in buffer // int nbytes; // Number of bytes read // bufptr = buffer; while ((nbytes = read(fd, bufptr, buffer+sizeof(buffer)-bufptr -1 )) > 0) { bufptr += nbytes; // if (bufptr[-1] == '\n' || bufptr[-1] == '\r') /*if ( bufptr[sizeof(buffer) -1] == '*' && bufptr[0] == '$' ) { break; }*/ } // while ends if ( nbytes ) return bufptr; else return 0; *bufptr = '\0'; } // end ReadAdrPort //In main int main( int argc , char *argv[]) { char *letter; if(strcpy(letter, ReadToSerialPort()) >0 ) { printf("Response is %s\n",letter); } }

  • Oracle Sql: how to substract rows from one table from another only once

    - by slyder07
    I'm working for a university project, and I have the following question: I have 2 tables in a Oracle DB... I need to select those rows from table1, which are not included in table2... But the main problem is that I need to exclude that rows from table2 wich was selected once... For example: Table1 Table2 ResultTable id | Number | Letter id | Number | Letter id | Number | Letter _____________________ _____________________ _____________________ 1 4 S 1 6 G 2 2 P 2 2 P 2 8 B 3 5 B 3 5 B 3 4 S 4 4 S 4 4 S 4 1 A 6 2 P 5 1 A 5 1 H 6 2 P 6 2 X So, how you see it, if one row from Table1 has a "twin" in Table2, they both are excluded. Hope I was explicit enough. Sorry for my bad English. Thanks.

  • How To Disconnect Non-Mapped UNC Path “Drives” in Windows

    - by The Geek
    Have you ever browsed over to another PC on your network using “network neighborhood”, and then connected to one of the file shares? Without a drive letter, how do you disconnect yourself once you’ve done so? Really confused as to what I’m talking about? Let’s walk through the process. First, imagine that you browse through and connect to a share, entering your username and password to gain access. The problem is that you stay connected, and there’s no visible way to disconnect yourself. If you try and shut down the other PC, you’ll receive a message that users are still connected. So let’s disconnect! Open up a command prompt, and then type in the following: net use This will give you a list of the connected drives, including the ones that aren’t actually mapped to a drive letter. To disconnect one of the connections, you can use the following command: net use /delete \\server\sharename For example, in this instance we’d disconnect like so: net use /delete \\192.168.1.205\root$ Now when you run the “net use” command again, you’ll see that you’ve been properly disconnected. If you wanted to actually connect to a share without mapping a drive letter, you can do the following: net use /user:Username \\server\sharename Password You could then just pop \\server\sharename into a Windows Explorer window and browse the files that way. Note that this technique should work exactly the same in any version of windows. • lubuntu notify-send remove limit of 21?

    - by giuspen
    sending notifications with notify-send in lubuntu notify-send -i error -t 1000 "Error" "error notification" I can send only 21 of them, after that no more notifications sent, the only way to receive more notifications is to click on the panel where there's a letter with the number 21 and then click on the button "clear all notifications". Is there a way to avoid the need to go clicking the button, also is there a way to remove at all that letter with number of notifications received? UPDATE: I realize that notification-daemon (0.7.3) is used. I downloaded the sources and edited the source code (nd-queue.c - on_bubble_destroyed) to do not buffer but always destroy the bubbles but I would prefer another way...
