    We have several Windows 2003 servers with print services for Unix on them, and which allow Linux machines running CUPS to use printers defined to CUPS with the URI lpd://printer_server/printer_queue_name - they work. An attempt to provide different printers on a different Windows 2003 server with print services for Unix newly enabled causes CUPS to behave like this: a newly defined printer will be in state "Idle". An attempt to print causes CUPS to change the printer state to "Disabled". In /var/log/cups/error_log, the relevant messages appear to be D [01/Dec/2012:06:14:18 -0800] [Job 16] lpd_command 02 hp775cm_ps D [01/Dec/2012:06:14:18 -0800] [Job 16] Sending command string (16 bytes)... Escape character is '^]' Connection closed by foreign host. Windows clients successfully print to the CIFS/SMB share of the hp755cm_ps printer. What other reasons are there for Windows to refuse an lpd request?

  • How do I renew an expired Ubuntu OpenLDAP SSL Certificate

    We went through the steps of revoking an SSL Certificate used by our OpenLDAP server and renewing it but we are unable to start slapd. Here are the commands we used: openssl verify hostname_domain_com_cert.pem We got back that the certificate was expired but "OK" We revoked the certificate we'd been using: openssl ca -revoke /etc/ssl/certs/hostname_domain_com_cert.pem Revoking worked fine. We created the new Cert Request by passing it the key file as input: openssl req -new -key hostname_domain_com_key.pem -out newreq.pem We generated a new certificate using the newly created request file "newreq.pem" openssl ca -policy policy_anything -out newcert.pem -infiles newreq.pem We looked at our cn=config.ldif file and found the locations for the key and cert and placed the newly dated certificate in the needed path. Still we are unable to start slapd with: service slapd start We get this message: Starting OpenLDAP: slapd - failed. The operation failed but no output was produced. For hints on what went wrong please refer to the system's logfiles (e.g. /var/log/syslog) or try running the daemon in Debug mode like via "slapd -d 16383" (warning: this will create copious output). Below, you can find the command line options used by this script to run slapd.     I am new to Linux. I am compiling Linux kernel (ver: 2.6.34.12) in gcc in traditional manner in VMware machine in Ubuntu (kernel version - 2.6.38-8-generic) 11.04 version. I am unable to find, where to update about newly compiled kernel in the grub.cfg file. I updated the newly created image version name in the existing image. Then VMware didn't able to load new kernel. I have searched in internet but I didn't find. So anyone can help me, to update in the grub.cfg and to successfully load new kernel. Few things about what I have done: Make bzImage to create image file. Make modules_install && make install to install modules and then sudo mkinitramfs -o initramfs.img-2.6.34 2.6.34. Then sudo gedit grub.cfg. In that at the mementry I updated the version of vmlinuz and initrd from 2.6.38-8 to 2.6.34.12. This is I have done.

    I have a .Net web application that for performance issues gets all the static data (CSS, Images, JS) from an external server that is on different location and different hosting company. I want to enable SSL on my site without the users getting a message: "Page contains both secure and insecure elements" Does this means I’ll have to get two SSL Certificates one for each server? If I want the users to continue getting the static content from the external server what other options do I have? Thanks.

    Hello, I get the warning "Format not a string literal and no format arguments" on the NSLog call in the following block: (void) alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", buttonIndex]); } I have read in another post here that this error message indicates an insecure use of NSLog.
