  • Delphi - WndProc() in thread never called

    - by Robert Oschler
I had code that worked fine when running in the context of the main VCL thread. This code allocated it's own WndProc() in order to handle SendMessage() calls. I am now trying to move it to a background thread because I am concerned that the SendMessage() traffic is affecting the main VCL thread adversely. So I created a worker thread with the sole purpose of allocating the WndProc() in its thread Execute() method to ensure that the WndProc() existed in the thread's execution context. The WndProc() handles the SendMessage() calls as they come in. The problem is that the worker thread's WndProc() method is never triggered. Note, doExecute() is part of a template method that is called by my TThreadExtended class which is a descendant of Delphi's TThread. TThreadExtended implements the thread Execute() method and calls doExecute() in a loop. I triple-checked and doExecute() is being called repeatedly. Also note that I call PeekMessage() right after I create the WndProc() in order to make sure that Windows creates a message queue for the thread. However something I am doing is wrong since the WndProc() method is never triggered. Here's the code below: // ========= BEGIN: CLASS - TWorkerThread ======================== constructor TWorkerThread.Create; begin FWndProcHandle := 0; inherited Create(false); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- // This call is the thread's Execute() method. procedure TWorkerThread.doExecute; var Msg: TMsg; begin // Create the WndProc() in our thread's context. if FWndProcHandle = 0 then begin FWndProcHandle := AllocateHWND(WndProc); // Call PeekMessage() to make sure we have a window queue. PeekMessage(Msg, FWndProcHandle, 0, 0, PM_NOREMOVE); end; if Self.Terminated then begin // Get rid of the WndProc(). myDeallocateHWnd(FWndProcHandle); end; // Sleep a bit to avoid hogging the CPU. Sleep(5); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure TWorkerThread.WndProc(Var Msg: TMessage); begin // THIS CODE IS NEVER CALLED. try if Msg.Msg = WM_COPYDATA then begin // Is LParam assigned? if (Msg.LParam > 0) then begin // Yes. Treat it as a copy data structure. with PCopyDataStruct(Msg.LParam)^ do begin ... // Here is where I do my work. end; end; // if Assigned(Msg.LParam) then end; // if Msg.Msg = WM_COPYDATA then finally Msg.Result := 1; end; // try() end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure TWorkerThread.myDeallocateHWnd(Wnd: HWND); var Instance: Pointer; begin Instance := Pointer(GetWindowLong(Wnd, GWL_WNDPROC)); if Instance <> @DefWindowProc then begin // Restore the default windows procedure before freeing memory. SetWindowLong(Wnd, GWL_WNDPROC, Longint(@DefWindowProc)); FreeObjectInstance(Instance); end; DestroyWindow(Wnd); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- // ========= END : CLASS - TWorkerThread ======================== Thanks, Robert

  • Background changes by itself and procedure repeats many times until I release the mouse button

    - by Robert
Dear community, I am a student, and I'm working on a little slots game (if the same random number comes up 3 timed, you win). I use Borland Pascal 7. I use graph to make this a bit more visual, but when I start the game my background turns from black to grey, and the other problem is that if I click the game start button, the game runs many times until I release the mouse button. How can I solve this? Here is my full program: program slots; uses mymouse, graph, crt; var gdriver, gmode, coin:integer; m:mouserec; a,b,c,coins:string; procedure gomb(x1,y1,x2,y2:integer;szoveg:string); var j,n:integer; begin setcolor(blue); rectangle(x1,y1,x2,y2); setfillstyle(1,blue); floodfill(x1+2,y1+2,blue); setcolor(0); outtextxy((x1+x2)div 2 -textwidth(szoveg) div 2 ,(y1+y2) div 2-textheight(szoveg) div 2,szoveg); end; procedure randomal(var a,b,c:string); begin randomize; STR(random(2)+1,a); STR(random(2)+1,b); STR(random(2)+1,c); end; procedure menu; begin; settextstyle(0,0,1); outtextxy(20,10,'Meno menu'); gomb(20,20,90,50,'Teglalap'); gomb(20,60,90,90,'Inditas'); gomb(20,100,90,130,'Harmadik'); gomb(20,140,90,170,'Negyedik'); end; procedure teglalap(x1,x2,y1,y2,tinta:integer); begin setcolor(tinta); rectangle(x1,x2,y1,y2); end; procedure jatek(var a,b,c:string;var coin:integer;coins:string); begin; clrscr; menu; randomal(a,b,c); if ((a=b) AND (b=c)) then coin:=coin+1 else coin:=coin-1; settextstyle(0,0,3); setbkcolor(black); outtextxy(200,20,a); outtextxy(240,20,b); outtextxy(280,20,c); STR(coin, coins); outtextxy(400,400,coins); end; procedure eger; begin; mouseinit; mouseon; menu; repeat getmouse(m); if (m.left) and (m.x20) ANd (m.x<90) and (m.y20) and (m.y<50) then teglalap(90,90,300,300,blue); if (m.left) and (m.x20) AND (m.x<90) and (m.y60) and (m.y<90) then jatek(a,b,c,coin, coins); until ((m.left) and (m.x20) ANd (m.x<140) and (m.y140) and (m.y<170)); end; begin coin:=50; gdriver:=detect; initgraph(gdriver, gmode, ''); eger; end. Thank you very much, Robert

  • Large number of soft page faults when assigning a TJpegImage to a TBitmap

    - by Robert Oschler
I have a Delphi 6 Pro application that processes incoming jpeg frames from a streaming video server. The code works but I recently noticed that it generates a huge number of soft page faults over time. After doing some investigation, the page faults appear to be coming from one particular graphics operation. Note, the uncompressed bitmaps in question are 320 x 240 or about 300 KB in size so it's not due to the handling of large images. The number of page faults being generated isn't tolerable. Over an hour it can easily top 1000000 page faults. I created a stripped down test case that executes the code I have included below on a timer, 10 times a second. The page faults appear to happen when I try to assign the TJpegImage to a TBitmap in the GetBitmap() method. I know this because I commented out that line and the page faults do not occur. The assign() triggers a decompression operation on the part of TJpegImage as it pushes the decompressed bits into a newly created bitmap that GetBitmap() returns. When I run Microsoft's pfmon utility (page fault monitor), I get a huge number of soft page fault error lines concerning RtlFillMemoryUlong, so it appears to happen during a memory buffer fill operation. One puzzling note. The summary part of pfmon's report where it shows which DLL caused what page fault does not show any DLL names in the far left column. I tried this on another system and it happens there too. Can anyone suggest a fix or a workaround? Here's the code. Note, IReceiveBufferForClientSocket is a simple class object that holds bytes in an accumulating buffer. function GetBitmap(theJpegImage: TJpegImage): Graphics.TBitmap; begin Result := TBitmap.Create; Result.Assign(theJpegImage); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure processJpegFrame(intfReceiveBuffer: IReceiveBufferForClientSocket); var theBitmap: TBitmap; theJpegStream, theBitmapStream: TMemoryStream; theJpegImage: TJpegImage; begin theBitmap := nil; theJpegImage := TJPEGImage.Create; theJpegStream:= TMemoryStream.Create; theBitmapStream := TMemoryStream.Create; try // 2 // ************************ BEGIN JPEG FRAME PROCESSING // Load the JPEG image from the receive buffer. theJpegStream.Size := intfReceiveBuffer.numBytesInBuffer; Move(intfReceiveBuffer.bufPtr^, theJpegStream.Memory^, intfReceiveBuffer.numBytesInBuffer); theJpegImage.LoadFromStream(theJpegStream); // Convert to bitmap. theBitmap := GetBitmap(theJpegImage); finally // Free memory objects. if Assigned(theBitmap) then theBitmap.Free; if Assigned(theJpegImage) then theJpegImage.Free; if Assigned(theBitmapStream) then theBitmapStream.Free; if Assigned(theJpegStream) then theJpegStream.Free; end; // try() end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure TForm1.Timer1Timer(Sender: TObject); begin processJpegFrame(FIntfReceiveBufferForClientSocket); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- procedure TForm1.FormCreate(Sender: TObject); var S: string; begin FIntfReceiveBufferForClientSocket := TReceiveBufferForClientSocket.Create(1000000); S := loadStringFromFile('c:\test.jpg'); FIntfReceiveBufferForClientSocket.assign(S); end; // --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, Robert

  • It&rsquo;s About You: Tell Microsoft How They&rsquo;re Doing!

    - by juanlarios
Every fall and spring, a survey goes out to a few hundred thousand IT folk in Canada asking what they think of Microsoft as a company. The information they get from this survey helps them understand what problems and issues you’re facing and how they can do better. The team at Microsoft Canada takes the input they get from this survey very seriously. Now I don’t know who of you will get the survey and who won’t but if you do find an email in your inbox from "Microsoft Feedback” with an email address of “ [email protected] ” and a subject line “Help Microsoft Focus on Customers and Partners” from now until April 13th — it’s not a hoax or phishing email. Please open it and take a few minutes to tell them what you think. This is your chance to get your voice heard: If they’re doing well, feel free to pile on the kudos (they love positive feedback!) and if you see areas they can improve, please point them out so they can make adjustments (they also love constructive criticism!). The Microsoft team would like to thank you for all your feedback in the past — to those of you who have filled out the survey and sent them emails. Thank you to all who engage with them in so many different ways through events, the blogs, online and in person. You are why they do what they do and they feel lucky to work with such a great community! One last thing - even if you don’t get the survey you can always give the team feedback by emailing us directly through the Microsoft Canada IT Pro Feedback email address . They want to make sure they are serving you in the best possible way. Tell them what you want more of. What should they do less of or stop altogether? How can they help? Do you want more cowbell ? Let them know through the survey or the email alias. They love hearing from you!

  • Ways to break the "Syndrome of the perfect programmer"

    - by Rushino
I am probably not the only one that feel that way. But I have what I tend to call "The syndrome of the perfect programmer" which many might say is the same as being perfectionist but in this case it's in the domain of programming. However, the domain of programming is a bit problematic for such a syndrome. Have you ever felt that when you are programming you're not confident or never confident enought that your code is clean and good code that follows most of the best practices ? There so many rules to follow that I feel like being overwhelmed somehow. Not that I don't like to follow the rules of course I am a programmer and I love programming, I see this as an art and I must follow the rules. But I love it too, I mean I want and I love to follow the rules in order to have a good feeling of what im doing is going the right way.. but I only wish I could have everything a bit more in "control" regarding best practices and good code. Maybe it's a lack of organization? Maybe it's a lack of experience? Maybe a lack of practice? Maybe it's a lack of something else someone could point out? Is there any way to get rid of that syndrome somehow ?

  • Anyone been successful changing their career without having to start over from scratch?

    - by Awaken
I posted a similar question on careeroverflow, but stackoverflow is just way more active and has way more users, so hopefully someone out there can help answer. I am currently an embedded developer in the defense/aerospace world for a big company. While I like the benefits and the pay, it just isn't keeping me happy. The Paul Graham article: How To Do What You Love really struck home. The problem I face are my golden handcuffs. When I look at jobs out there, they all want 5+ years experience in that language with expertise in framework/tool/server A,B,C, etc... I have worked in C and C++ on the job (in a real-time embedded environment) with some small things in C# and Java. I'm learning Ruby now to expand my knowledge, but I don't consider myself an expert in anything right now. I'd love to work on desktop applications or web apps. Is it possible for someone like me to make the switch without going back to the start line? I'd love to leave the huge bureaucracy and work with some great developers. I'd be willing to work late and take a modest pay cut, but that isn't so clear just from a resume. For those that have altered their career path, how did you do it? For those people who are in charge of hiring, what can I do to help myself?

  • How do I backup my customer's data?

    - by marcamillion
If you run a SaaS app, or work on one, I would love to hear from you. Where the safety and security of your customer's data is paramount, how do you secure it and back it up? I would love to know your main host (e.g. Heroku, Engine Yard, Rackspace, MediaTemple, etc.) and who you use for your backup. Be as detailed as possible - e.g. a quick overview of your service and the data you store (images for instance), what happens with the images when the user uploads them (e.g. they go to your Linode VPS, and posted to the site for them to see - then they are automatically sent to AWS or wherever, then once a week they are backed up to tape by the managed hosting provider, and you also back them up to your house/office). If you could also give some idea as to what the unit cost (per GB/per user/per month) of storage is - on average, I would really appreciate that. Getting ready to launch my app, and I would love to get some more perspective on the nitty gritty details involved. Thanks!

  • Winners of the Oracle Excellence Award—Eco-Enterprise Innovation

    - by Evelyn Neumayr
Did you get a chance to attend Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco? With 60,000 attendees and hundreds of sessions to choose from—there was a lot going on. One of my favorite sessions was the Eco-Enterprise Awards and Sustainability Executive Panel Discussion. During this session, Jeff Henley, Oracle Chairman of the Board, announced the winners of the 2013 Oracle Excellence Award—Eco-Enterprise Innovation. It was an enlightening session as we heard several of the winning customers discuss the importance of sustainability to their company and how they’re using various Oracle products to help with their sustainability initiatives. The winning customers include: Centennial Coal, Indaver nv, Korea Enterprise Data, National Guard Health Affairs, Schneider National, SThree, Telstra International Group, Trex Company, University of Salzburg, Walmart, and Yeoncheon County Office. Stay tuned for additional blogs where you’ll learn more about these winning companies’ environmental best practices and why they won this award. Those partners include: CSS International, Daesang Information Technology, i4BI, Infosys, Knowledge Global, Solutions for Retails Brands Limited, and SysGen. During this same session, Jeff Henley also awarded Robert Kaplan, Director of Sustainability at Walmart, with Oracle’s Chief Sustainability Officer of the Year award. Robert was honored for helping improve Walmart’s supply chain efficiency with their Sustainability Hub. The Sustainability Hub, powered by Oracle Service Cloud, is a central location for Walmart suppliers, associates and business partners to learn, connect, inspire and drive sustainability through collaboration. While at Oracle OpenWorld, I also got a chance to hear Robert Kaplan discuss their Sustainability Hub during an Oracle OpenWorld Live taping. • Writing all the html of a document with jquery instead of in the page body?

    - by Robert
I'm a UI person currently working on a web application, where most of the people I work with are back end developers. I'm currently at a disagreement with them about whether or not the above is a prudent thing to do. This application doe use quite a bit of JavaScript, and wouldn't even work without it unfortunately. This being the case, One of the back end developers that I'm working with is claiming that pages could and even SHOULD be build completely with JavaScript or jquery. This caught me completely off guard. We're talking about div tags, lists, background images and text here. I'm trying to explain to him that this isn't the right way to do things at all, and from a best practices perspective: content(html) should be separate from presentation(css), and behavior(script etc.). I know that it's possible to write html in jquery, although I haven't done it, but am I wrong in my thinking that this isn't the way things should be done. Is it even possible to write ALL the code with jquery? would love to hear any thoughts either way, as I will be discussing this with him again tomorrow.

  • My Mother Bought a Droid

    - by Ben Griswold
I converted to iPhone two years ago when I left my former employer and my Blackberry behind. The truth is I half-heartedly purchased my iPhone. It was a great looking device, but as far as I was concerned, it was a mere toy compared to my Blackberry.  I remember hiding the toy in my briefcase when attending business meetings because I didn’t consider it to be professional enough.  I’ve since owned all three generations of the iPhone and, well, iPhone seems to have caught on. I still miss the click of the Blackberry keyboard and the blinking red light letting me know that someone/something requires my attention, but I’m officially an iPhone fanboy now.  My mom called last weekend and asked if she should buy an iPhone. I talked her ear off about everything I love about iPhone. I went on for about twenty minutes. I couldn’t help myself. I mentioned everything from my podcast subscriptions to the application which manages my workouts.  I went as far as to say that someday all smart phones will be referred to as iPhones just like all tissues are referred to as Kleenex and all sodas are referred to as Cokes.  I was really on a roll and then I stopped. I had to…the call dropped.  There I was, strategically standing in the far corner of my backyard where I get the most reliable AT&T reception and the call drops in middle of my iPhone pitch.  Folks, I don’t care how good a salesperson you are, it’s tough to recover from a situation like this.   I dialed my mom back and jokingly asked if she was planning to make calls with her new phone. I explained that AT&T is bound to provide better service eventually but I’m not sure she should wait. After all, I have troubles with the network in San Diego and I can only image how bad it would be for her in Western Massachusetts. Mom called back a few days later exclaiming, “I bought a Droid! I love this phone! I haven’t done anything with it but make phone calls, but I love it.”  I had to laugh.  My mom made the right call (pun intended.)  The iPhone is an amazing device, but owners are constantly reminded that its core function (it’s a phone, remember?) is subpar.  If you love gadgets, you’re probably enthralled by iPhone’s many bells and whistles and, relatively speaking, the terrible phone service might not amount to much.  (Maybe it amounts to a rant on your blog.) The overall iPhone offering is so attractive that consumers are willing to wait for AT&T to straighten up their act or wait until Apple grants a choice of carriers.  But I don’t see either of these remedies coming soon. In the interim, I’m willing to take my iPhone for what it is and just continue to enjoy my favorite features while pretending that poor coverage isn’t a big deal. With any luck, more and more reasonable folks will recognize that Android Phones are legitimate players in the smart phone space, they will buy loads of them and there will become plenty of functional phones to borrow when my “phone” is showing zero bars.  Heck, I’m already covered when I visit my mom.

  • JavaScript - Efficiently find all elements containing one of a large set of strings

    - by noah
I have a set of strings and I need to find all all of the occurrences in an HTML document. Where the string occurs is important because I need to handle each case differently: String is all or part of an attribute. e.g., the string is foo: <input value="foo"> - Add class ATTR to the element. String is the full text of an element. e.g., <button>foo</button> - Add class TEXT to the element. String is inline in the text of an element. e.g., <p>I love foo</p> - Wrap the text in a span tag with class TEXT. Also, I need to match the longest string first. e.g., if I have foo and foobar, then <p>I love foobar</p> should become <p>I love <span class="TEXT">foobar</span></p>, not <p>I love <span class="TEXT">foo</span>bar</p>. The inline text is easy enough: Sort the strings descending by length and find and replace each in document.body.innerHTML with <span class="TEXT">$1</span>, although I'm not sure if that is the most efficient way to go. For the attributes, I can do something like this: sortedStrings.each(function(it) { document.body.innerHTML.replace(new RegExp('(\S+?)="[^"]*'+escapeRegExChars(it)+'[^"]*"','g'),function(s,attr) { $('[+attr+'*='+it+']').addClass('ATTR'); }); }); Again, that seems inefficient. Lastly, for the full text elements, a depth first search of the document that compares the innerHTML to each string will work, but for a large number of strings, it seems very inefficient. Any answer that offers performance improvements gets an upvote :)

  • 2 Days of Share &amp; Point

    - by Mark Rackley
Groovy man… SharePoint Saturday Ozarks is back for 2010, bigger and better than before. Join us for a far out time and learn more about SharePoint in one day than you could in a year from the man… Yes! SharePoint Saturday Ozarks is back! SharePoint Saturday Ozarks is the largest SharePoint conference in Arkansas, Southern Missouri, and the very north east tip of Oklahoma. Last year we had a great turn out with 20 speakers, 5 MVPs, and attendees coming from Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama, Michigan, and Washington. Hey Man… what’s SharePoint Saturday anyway? Sounds like a conspiracy man… Not to worry, SharePoint Saturday is not an arm of the government bent on mind control or any attempt what-so-ever to bring you down man. SharePoint Saturday is grass roots effort started by Michael Lotter (http://www.sharepointsaturday.org/pages/about.aspx). It is a FREE one day event where the best SharePoint speakers gather to present their love, hatred, and frustrations of SharePoint to those lucky individuals who attend. Lessons are learned, contacts are made, prizes are won, food is eaten, assorted beverages are consumed until wee hours of the morning. SharePoint Saturday started with just a few sporadic one day events here and there. However, over the past year SharePoint Saturday has exploded and it’s hard to find a weekend where there is NOT a SharePoint Saturday event happing in some corner of the globe. There are even occasions where there are two SharePoint Saturdays on the same day! Many people are pleasantly surprised at the caliber of speakers at these SharePoint Saturday events. For the most part, these speakers are more eloquent, practiced, and practical than those speakers you find at the major multi-day conferences. These guys aren’t even paid to speak.. they do it out of love man… SharePoint Saturday Ozarks 2009 Alumni We had a star studded cast last year with many returning this year! Just check out the fun that they had… John Ferringer – Admin rockstar… I can still sense the awesomeness   SharePoint poster children Mike Watson & Laura Rogers     Lori Gowin spreading the SharePoint Love Eric Shupps is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll       Cathy Dew, Sean McDonough, and JD Wade relaxing between gigs Actually, you can see real photos from last year’s SharePoint Saturday ozarks here:  picasaweb.google.com/mrackley/SharePointSaturdayOzarks#    What’s new for SharePoint Saturday Ozarks 2010 SharePoint Saturday Ozarks 2010 will totally blow your mind man. We’re getting the band back to together with many returning speakers and few new faces. Joel Oleson will be speaking this year, maybe he’ll grace us with his song stylings. Sadly, once again, Andrew Connell will not be able to attend SharePoint Saturday Ozarks, however he did feel the need to show his support in his own way. Prizes this year currently include books, software, a Zune HD, and much more! Wait Man… You said 2 days? I thought it was a one day event? Correct you are my herbal smelling friend… SharePoint Saturday Ozarks 2010 will spread the love an additional day this year. The first day will be all about the SharePoint love, on day 2 we will be taking a leisurely float down the Buffalo National River for those interested in a truly unique experience (no banjos allowed please).   Here are the details: WHAT 4 – 5 hour float down the Buffalo National River WHEN & WHERE Sunday June 13th. We will be leaving at 10am from the Parking Lot of: Gordon’s Motel & Canoe Rental Old Highway 7 Jasper, AR 72641 (870) 446-5252 Jasper is about 30 minutes south of Harrison, AR on Highway 7 South. You are responsible for bumming a ride to/from Gordon’s Motel, but they will be shuttling us to/from the river and providing canoes and a boxed lunch. WHAT ELSE? The float trip is dependent on the weather of course, we won’t be floating down the river in a thunderstorm, however I planned SPS Ozarks around a time of year ideal for floating. We aren’t talking class 5 rapids here, you don’t need any real skill, but you need to be okay with possibly tipping your canoe over once or twice. You can bring your own assorted beverages with you, but glass containers are not allowed on the river. I suggest a small cooler with extra snacks and drinks. Also bring clothing you can get wet in (these SharePoint people can get ornery). HOW DO I SIGN UP? When you register for SharePoint Saturday Ozarks, you will have the option to also sign up for the float trip. Seats are limited though! If you do not intend to go, please do not take someone else’s place.  The cost for the float trip will be about $35 dollars per person (which you are responsible for unless we find a sponsor). The price includes shuttle to/from river, canoe, life jackets, paddles, and boxed lunch. Far out man… how do I register??? You can register for SharePoint Saturday Ozarks by going to http://spsozarks.eventbrite.com/ We are limited to 200 people for the conference and 50 people for the float trip, so register today before we are sold out. Lodging for SharePoint Saturday Ozarks will once again take place at the Hotel Seville: Annex Suites are available for $103.20 This is So Groovy.. How can I help? I’m glad you asked! We are still looking for a few sponsors and one or two more speakers. If you are interested please let me know!  You can find out more information at http://www.sharepointsaturday.org/ozarks Hey… wait a minute…. what exactly IS SharePoint man??? Come to SharePoint Saturday Ozarks and find out!!  See you guys there!

  • Hierarchy based aggregation

    - by Ganapathy Subramaniam
I have a hierarchy table in SQL Server 2005 which contains employees - managers - department - location - state. Sample table for hierarchy table: ID Name ParentID Type 1 PA NULL 0 (group) 2 Pittsburgh 1 1 (subgroup) 3 Accounts 2 1 4 Alex 3 2 (employee) 5 Robin 3 2 6 HR 2 1 7 Robert 6 2 Second one is fact table which contains employee salary details ID and Salary. Sample data for fact table: ID Salary 4 6000 5 5000 7 4000 Is there any good to way to display the hierarchy from hierarchy table with aggregated sum of salary based on employees. Expected result is like Name Salary PA 15000 (Pittsburgh + others(if any)) Pittusburgh 15000 (Accounts + HR) Accounts 11000 (Alex + Robin) Alex 6000 (direct values) Robin 5000 HR 4000 Robert 4000 In my production environment, hierarchy table may contain 23000+ rows and fact table may contain 300,000+ rows. So, I thought of providing any level of groupid to the query to retrieve just its children and its corresponding aggregated value. Any better solution?

  • Interface Builder error: IBXMLDecoder: The value for key is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer

    - by stdout
I'm working with Robert Payne's fork of PSMTabBarControl that works with IB 3.2 (thanks BTW Robert!): http://codaset.com/robertjpayne/psmtabbarcontrol/. The demo application works fine on 64-bit systems, but when I try to open the XIB file in Interface Builder on a 32-bit system I get: IBXMLDecoder: The value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer Building the app as 32 bit works, but then running it gives: PSMTabBarControlDemo[9073:80f] * -[NSKeyedUnarchiver decodeInt32ForKey:]: value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) too large to fit in 32-bit integer Not sure if this is a generic IB issue that can occur when moving between 64 and 32 bit systems, or if this is a more specific issue with this code. Has anyone else run into this?

  • Passing const CName as this argument discards qualifiers

    - by Geno Diaz
I'm having trouble with passing a constant class through a function. // test the constructors auto CName nameOne("Robert", "Bresson"); const CName nameTwo = nameOne; auto CName nameThree; // display the contents of each newly-constructed object... // should see "Robert Bresson" cout << "nameOne = "; nameOne.WriteFullName(); cout << endl; // should see "Robert Bresson" again cout << "nameTwo = "; nameTwo.WriteFullName(); cout << endl; As soon as the compiler hits nameTwo.WriteFullName() I get the error of abandoning qualifiers. I know that the class is a constant however I can't figure out how to work around it. The function is in a header file written as so: void const WriteFullName(ostream& outstream = cout) { outstream << m_first << ' ' << m_last; } I receive this error when const is put in back of the function header main.cpp:(.text+0x51): undefined reference to CName::CName()' main.cpp:(.text+0x7c): undefined reference toCName::WriteFullName(std::basic_ostream &) const' main.cpp:(.text+0xbb): undefined reference to CName::WriteFullName(std::basic_ostream<char, std::char_traits<char> >&) const' main.cpp:(.text+0xf7): undefined reference toCName::WriteFullName(std::basic_ostream &) const' main.cpp:(.text+0x133): undefined reference to operator>>(std::basic_istream<char, std::char_traits<char> >&, CName&)' main.cpp:(.text+0x157): undefined reference tooperator<<(std::basic_ostream &, CName const&)' main.cpp:(.text+0x1f4): undefined reference to operator<<(std::basic_ostream<char, std::char_traits<char> >&, CName const&)' main.cpp:(.text+0x22b): undefined reference tooperator<<(std::basic_ostream &, CName const&)' main.cpp:(.text+0x25f): undefined reference to operator<<(std::basic_ostream<char, std::char_traits<char> >&, CName const&)' main.cpp:(.text+0x320): undefined reference tooperator<<(std::basic_ostream &, CName const&)' main.cpp:(.text+0x347): undefined reference to `operator(std::basic_istream &, CName&)'

  • Reporting Services Textbox Format Question

    - by coson
Good Day, I am creating a report with Reporting Services and am using several text boxes horizontally aligned next to each other. I would like to put periods so that report looks like: 1234 Robert Jones................... (234) 921-4922 1235 Jennifer Wilson................ (919) 582-2914 Is this possible to right-pad the text box with periods, or would I need to roll out some code to accomplish the above effect. I tried doing this and the results looked like: 1234 Robert Jones............... (234) 921-4922 1235 Jennifer Wilson.......... (919) 582-2914 Is something like this even possible? TIA, coson

  • How to add "most recent emails from this user" to Gmail inbox as a sidebar

    - by Scott B
I use and love gmail. However, since i use email for customer support, I'm always doing a cross reference lookup via the search feature to see my past conversations with the person whose email I'm reading. I'd love to have a right sidebar widget that shows me, for any email I choose to read, the list of previous conversations/emails with that person. Is this possible? I'm using Chrome Ideally, this sidebar would bump or replace the contextual ads that now display over there.

  • xPad-like app for Windows

    - by peroty
I like to keep notes simple. I have a ton of .txt files littering my desktop. I'd love to find an app like http://getxpad.com/ (Mac Only) for the PC. Evernote/OneNote are overkill. Ideally I'd love to find an powerful notepad app where I can keep the notes in a sidebar and have the main window for the note content. Does such a beast exist?

  • Songbird 4-pane filter panel library view

    - by wonea
I love Songbird but I was already whether it's possible add an additional column to the Songbird layout, I love categorising my music by dates as well, and find right clicking above the column header to change a little to messy and want even more flexibility. So here's my mockup of the 4-pane panel library, I think I've made Songbird do this by mistake in the past through a bug. Question is, is this possible?

i have an multidimensional array $ouptput=Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => mov_1 [1] => MY FAIR LADY ) [1] => Array ( [1] => mov_10 [2] => love actually ) ) and two variables $avlblQnty=50 $success= true when i send these data via json echo json_encode( array('movieData'=>$output,'stock'=>$avlblQnty,'sucess'=>$success)); it returns {"movieData":[["mov_1","MY FAIR LAD],{"1":"mov_10","2":"love actually"}],"stock":0,"success":true} but i need json encoded data properly so that i can create an select box on movieData using(movieData.length), so for that i want json edcoded data in below format so that i can retrive successfully {"movieData":[{"mov_1":"MY FAIR LAD,mov_10":"love actually"}],"stock":0,"success":true} i want to know how to send an array(multidimensional/associative) and some varaibles together through json?

  • How to read back and print text with newlines from a Python (Django) string with HTML?

    - by user1801486
If someone types in a phrase, such as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. (no blank lines between each line, but the text is written on three separate lines) into a text box on a web page, and then presses a button which is then stored in a database via Django, and that string is read back and printed on a page, how can I get it to print on an HTML page with the newlines still in the text? So instead of it being printed back as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. It would print as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. I know that if I use: (textarea)soAndSo.body(/textarea), this preserves the newlines that were in the file when the user typed it up originally. How can I get this same effect, but without having to use textarea boxes?

  • Silverlight Cream for April 02, 2010 -- #828

    - by Dave Campbell
In this Issue: Phil Middlemiss, Robert Kozak, Kathleen Dollard, Avi Pilosof, Nokola, Jeff Wilcox, David Anson, Timmy Kokke, Tim Greenfield, and Josh Smith. Shoutout: SmartyP has additional info up on his WP7 Pivot app: Preview of My Current Windows Phone 7 Pivot Work From SilverlightCream.com: A Chrome and Glass Theme - Part I Phil Middlemiss is starting a tutorial series on building a new theme for Silverlight, in this first one we define some gradients and color resources... good stuff Phil Intercepting INotifyPropertyChanged This is Robert Kozak's first post on this blog, but it's a good one about INotifyPropertyChanged and MVVM and has a solution in the post with lots of code and discussion. How do I Display Data of Complex Bound Criteria in Horizontal Lists in Silverlight? Kathleen Dollard's latest article in Visual Studio magazine is in answer to a question about displaying a list of complex bound criteria including data, child data, and photos, and displaying them horizontally one at a time. Very nice-looking result, and all the code. Windows Phone: Frame/Page navigation and transitions using the TransitioningContentControl Avi Pilosof discusses the built-in (boring) navigation on WP7, and then shows using the TransitionContentControl from the Toolkit to apply transitions to the navigation. EasyPainter: Cloud Turbulence and Particle Buzz Nokola returns with a couple more effects for EasyPainter: Cloud Turbulence and Particle Buzz ... check out the example screenshots, then go grab the code. Property change notifications for multithreaded Silverlight applications Jeff Wilcox is discussing the need for getting change notifications to always happen on the UI thread in multi-threaded apps... great diagrams to see what's going on. Tip: The default value of a DependencyProperty is shared by all instances of the class that registers it David Anson has a tip up about setting the default value of a DependencyProperty, and the consequence that may have depending upon the type. Building a “real” extension for Expression Blend Timmy Kokke's code is WPF, but the subject is near and dear to us all, Timmy has a real-world Expression Blend extension up... a search for controls in the Objects and Timelines pane ... and even if that doesn't interest you... it's the source to a Blend extension! XPath support in Silverlight 4 + XPathPad Tim Greenfield not only talks about XPath in SL4RC, but he has produced a tool, XPathPad, and provided the source... if you've used XPath, you either are a higher thinker than me(not a big stretch), or you need this :) Using a Service Locator to Work with MessageBoxes in an MVVM Application Josh Smith posted about a question that comes up a lot: showing a messagebox from a ViewModel object. This might not work for custom message boxes or unit testing. This post covers the Unit Testing aspect. Stay in the 'Light!
