• What is the difference between the Lego Mindstorms 1.0 and 2.0

  I am thinking about buying a mindstorms kit (I don't currently own one but I have used 1.0 at university) and I am a bit unsure as to the benefits of 2.0 over 1.0. I have seen other posts on the subject all saying generally 2.0 is better but I have some more specific questions about this that I can't seem to find any answers on. Apart from the different lego pieces and sensors you get with the 2.0 kit, is there any difference between a 1.0 nxt brick and 2.0 nxt brick? From what I can determine from other sources, they are the same except for the firmware installed. Am I right in saying I could buy a 1.0 kit and install the same firmware that comes with the 2.0 kit and the bricks would be the same or is the 1.0 brick not compatible with the 2.0 firmware??? Also, I plan to use a different programming language like c or java so I need to install specific firmware for that anyway like librcx or lejos right? So if using c or java as opposed to the provided lego coding methods it doesn't matter if I am using 1.0 or 2.0 (except for the lego pieces in the kit) am I right? In a nutshell, assuming I am using librcx or lejos and I don't care about the sensors and lego pieces included, is there any benefit to buying a 2.0 kit over the 1.0 kit? Thanks in advance

• -[CFString length]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3881940 when i scroll to near the bottom

  Hey guys, i've got a problem debugging an iphone app that i'm attempting to write and it's got me stumped, bear with me, i'm a n00b to programming and might get some of the terminology wrong but i'll try to explain it as best as i can. The app gets an XML doc from the a web site, parses it into an array, and then displays it in a table view, i have the parser in a separate file. The ViewDidLoad in RootViewController sends it a url, the parser goes to work and then returns an NSMutableArray. When i run the app it works fine with small XML files (5 entries or so, and 1-3 sections), but when i use a larger one(20+ rows, over 12 sections) i get the error "-[CFString length]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3881940" when i scroll near the bottom of the tableview, just as the last section title is about to come onto the viewable area on the screen to be precise. if i return a static string instead of the object in my array in this method it doesn't crash, but i can use NSLog to call the array and it returns the title no problems. - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)indexPath { return [[returnedEvents objectAtIndex:indexPath ] objectAtIndex:0]; } The returnedEvents array isn't released until -(void) dealloc {} I have read a few other posts on here, and a few guides on debugging and as of yet am unable to find anything that was able to help me, i'd be more than happy to post some code up here and any more information, i'm just not sure where to start... • ASP.NET MVC - using model property as form, how can I post to action?

The other property in BandProfleModel is just used in the UI for other data. I'm trying to update just the Band property, but for each post, the argument "m" is always null (specifically, the .Band property is null). It's posting just fine to the action, so it isn't a problem with my route. Just the data is null. The ID and name attributes of the fields are BAND_whatever and Band.whatever (whatever being a property of Band), so it seems like it would work... What am I doing wrong? How can I use just one property as part of a form, post back, and have values populated via the model binder for my BandProfileModel property in the action? Thanks.

  Does anyone know how to specify an INCLUDE ONLY category using wp_get_archives? I would like to specify a category but then list results by month. I've tried kwebble's plugin to no avail. I've also found the following on WP forums, but it appears to only exclude categories. Perhaps it can be modified to do include? Even given that, I'm not sure how I would call it... • Will HttpResponse.Filter buffer the whole data before start the sending?

  Hi, An user posts this article about how to use HttpResponse.Filter to compress large amounts of data. But what will happen if I try to transfer a 4G file? will it load the whole file in memory in order to compress it? or otherwise it will compress it chunk by chunk? I've tried several variations, but I seem unable to get the correct join syntax. Is this simply a case of a query that is too complicated for LINQ? Can it be done using nested queries some how? The purpose of the query is to find the most recently updated posts i.e. replying to a post would bump it to the top of the list. Replies are defined by the ParentID column, which is self-referencing.

  I have a set of 4 checkboxes, all with different names, and require that at least 1 is checked. I know there are a few posts on here already trying to answer this question. The solution that seems to be most logical to me is the answer posted on Question 1734840, but I can't seem to get it working! What's wrong with my code? Or any other new coding ideas to get this working? I have set the class on all of them to 'require-one'. • How to fix IE ClearType + jQuery opacity problem in this script?

  Hello, I'm having a rather common problem (or so it seems, after some googling around...) with IE messing both bold text AND transparent pngs while animating opacity using jQuery. • WMD markdown editor - HTML to Markdown conversion

  I am using wmd markdown editor on a project and had a question: When I post the form containing the markdown text area, it (as expected) posts html to the server. However, say upon server-side validation something fails and I need to send the user back to edit their entry, is there anyway to refill the textarea with just the markdown and not the html? Since as I have it set up, the server only has access to the post data (which is in the form of html) so I can't seem to think of a way to do this. Any ideas? Preferably a non-javascript based solution. Update: I found an html to markdown converter called markdownify. I guess this might be the best solution for displaying the markdown back to the user...any better alternatives are welcome! Update 2: I found this post on SO and I guess there is an option to send the data to the server as markdown instead of html. Are there any downsides to simply storing the data as markdown in the database? What about displaying it back to the user (outside of an editor)? Maybe it would be best to post both versions (html AND markdown) to the server... SOLVED: I can simply use php markdown to convert the markdown to html serverside.

  Hey all, I've created a widget that will essentially unlock a music track, providing you post to either your twitter account, or facebook wall. I've signed up through facebook connect and I am able to successfully post onto my own wall... but the functionality I'm looking for is to be able to take ones username and password and automatically log in to facebook, and send my desired message. • BreezingForms Integrator Finalize Code and $this->execPieceByName('ff_InitLib');

  I've started working on a Joomla! project (I'm mainly a C#/ASP.NET kind a guy). I'm using BreezingForms and have created forms, got them working, but now I need to do some additional code in the "Finalize Code" section. I need to access form elements via BreezingForms(FacileForms) API. Here's what I'm doing, but it chokes: $this->execPieceByName('ff_SubmitLib'); // Is this necessary? // load the standard Facile Forms library $this->execPieceByName('ff_InitLib'); // page breaks here. // get the name of the uploaded file $filename = ff_getSubmit('someUploadedFile'); Now I don't know what goes wrong. The page posts back blank. I'm not sure how to debug this in Joomla. I currently do not have access to the server to debug, so I would need to debug remotely at runtime (not ideal I know). My account is of type Administrator for the Joomla backend. As far as I know all the plugins/modules are installed. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am using ASIHTTPRequest to POST data to a remote server on iPhone 4.2.1. Apparently the server is not presently equipped to parse this correctly, so I am trying to work around it. If I setup a proxy between iPhone and my Mac and run Paros (to see packets), the problem goes away. Paros combine the header and data so that it is all acquired by the server in a single socket read. I've tried a few things suggested in other posts including disabling persistent connections, but I am not having any luck. I've also tried doing a ASIHTTPFormRequest, but the server does not like the generated data format. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Enum "does not have a no-arg default constructor" with Jaxb and cxf

  A client is having an issue running java2ws on some of their code, which uses & extends classes that are consumed from my SOAP web services. Confused yet? :) I'm exposing a SOAP web service (JBoss5, Java 6). Someone is consuming that web service with Axis1 and creating a jar out of it with the data types and client stubs. They are then defining their own type, which extends one of my types. My type contains an enumeration. class MyParent { private MyEnumType myEnum; // getters, settters for myEnum; } class TheirChild extends MyParent { ... } When they are running java2ws on their code (which extends my class), they get Caused by: com.sun.xml.bind.v2.runtime.IllegalAnnotationsException: 2 counts of IllegalAnnotationExceptions net.foo.bar.MyEnuMType does not have a no-arg default constructor. this problem is related to the following location: at net.foo.bar.MyEnumType at public net.foo.bar.MyEnumType net.foo.bar.MyParent.getMyEnum() The enum I've defined is below. This is now how it comes out after being consumed, but it's how I have it defined on the app server: @XmlType(name = "MyEnumType") @XmlEnum public enum MyEnumType { Val1("Val1"), Val2("Val2") private final String value; MyEnumType(String v) { value = v; } public String value() { return value; } public static MyEnumType fromValue(String v) { if (v == null || v.length() == 0) { return null; } if (v.equals("Val1")) { return MyEnumType.Val1; } if (v.equals("Val2")) { return MyEnumType.Val2; } return null; } } I've seen things online and other posts, like (this one) regarding Jaxb's inability to handle Lists or things like that, but I'm baffled about my enum. I'm pretty sure you can't have a default constructor for an enum (well, at least a public no-arg constructor, Java yells at me when I try), so I'm not sure what makes this error possible. Any ideas? Also, the "2 counts of IllegalAnnotationsExceptions" may be because my code actually has two enums that are written similarly, but I left them out of this example for brevity.

• .NET projects build automation with NAnt/MSBuild + SVN

  Hi everyone, for quite a while now, I've been trying to figure out how to setup an automated build process at our shop. I've read many posts and guides on this matter and none of them really fits my specifics needs. My SVN repository is laid out as follows \projects \projectA (a product) \tags \1.0.0.1 \1.0.0.2 ... \trunk \src \proj1 (a VS C# project) \proj2 \documentation Then I have a network share, with a folder for each project (product), which in turn contains the binaries, written documentation and the generated API documentation (via NDoc - each project may have an .ndoc file in the repository) for every historical version (from the tags SVN folder) and for the latest version as well (from the trunk). Basically, what I want to do in a scheduled batch build are these steps: examine the project's SVN folder and identify tags not present in the network share for each of these tags check out the tag folder build (with Release config) copy the resulting binaries to the network share search for .ndoc files generate CHM files via NDoc copy the resulting CHM files to the network share do the same as in 2., but for the HEAD revision of trunk Now, the trouble is, I have no idea where to start. I do not keep .sln files in the repository, but I am able to replace these with MSBuild files which in turn build the C# projects belonging to the specific product. I guess the most troubling part is the examination of the repository for tags which have not been processed yet - i.e. searching the tags and comparing them to a project's directory structure on the network share. I have no idea how to do that in any of the build tools (NAnt, MSBuild). Could you please provide me with some pointers on how to approach this task as a whole and in detail as well? I do not care if I use NAnt, MSBuild, or both. I am aware that this might be rather complex, but every idea and NAnt/MSBuild snippet will be a great help. Thanks in advance.

• What was Tim Sweeney thinking? (How does this C++ parser work?)

  Tim Sweeney of Epic MegaGames is the lead developer for Unreal and a programming language geek. Many years ago posted the following screen shot to VoodooExtreme: As a C++ programmer and Sweeney fan, I was captivated by this. It shows generic C++ code that implements some kind of scripting language where that language itself seems to be generic in the sense that it can define its own grammar. Mr. Sweeney never explained himself. :-) It's rare to see this level of template programming, but you do see it from time to time when people want to push the compiler to generate great code or because they want to create generic code (for example, Modern C++ Design). Tim seems to be using it to create a grammar in Parser.cpp - you can see what look like prioritized binary operators. If that is the case, then why does Test.ae look like it's also defining a grammar? Obviously this is a puzzle that needs to be solved. Victory goes to the answer with a working version of this code, or the most plausible explanation, or to Tim Sweeney himself if he posts an answer. :-)

• Cannot get net 4.5rc to work

  I have installed .net 4.5rc from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/hh854779.aspx because I would like to use the new spatial features when developing with visual visual web developer 2010 express. But when I want to change the target framework to .net 4.5 in the project properties it is not there. I have checked the directory in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 and can see that there is no v4.5 folder but the v4.0 directory has been updated with a timestamp corresponding to when I installed v4.5. The version of the v4.0 directory is v4.0.30319. I am running windows 7 on my computer. Any ideas why I cannot find v4.5 ? thanks Thomas *UPDATE Based on the comment below I have found out that I am running 4.5. For others reading this post, .net 4.5 replaces the files in the .net 4.0 directory but without renaming the directory to .net 4.5 (a bit confusing). To check whether your assemblies have been updated check the product version of eg. system.dll (right click - details). According to this post http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/2012/Mar/13/NET-45-is-an-inplace-replacement-for-NET-40 if the product version is above 17000 it is running 4.5.

  I'm using a fluid layout in the new theme that I'm working on for my blog. I often blog about code and include <pre> blocks within the posts. The float: left column for the content area has a max-width so that the column stops at a certain maximum width and can also be shrunk: +----------+ +------+ | text | | text | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +----------+ +------+ max shrunk What I want is for the <pre> elements to be wider than the text column so that I can fit 80-character-wrapped code without horizontal scroll bars. Remove the float: left The workaround I'm currently using is to insert the <pre> elements into "breaks" in the post column, so that the widths of the post segments and the <pre> segments are managed mutually exclusively: +----------+ +------+ | text | | text | +----------+ +------+ +-------------+ +-------------+ | code | | code | +-------------+ +-------------+ +----------+ +------+ +----------+ +------+ max shrunk But this forces me to insert additional closing and opening <div> elements into the post text which I'd rather keep semantically pristine. Admittedly, I don't have a full grasp of how the box model works with floats with overflowing content, so I don't understand why the combination of float: left on the container and the <pre> inside it cripple the max-width of the container. I'm observing the same problem on Firefox/Chrome/Safari/Opera. IE6 (the crazy one) seems happy all the time. This also doesn't seem dependent on quirks/standards mode.

• Sharing sessions across applications using the ASP.NET Session State Service

  I am trying to share sessions between two web applications, both hosted on the same server. One is a .net 2.0 web forms application the other is as .net 3.5 MVC2 application. Both apps have their session set up like this: <sessionState mode="StateServer" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" /> In the webform application I am posting the the session key to the MVC app: protected void LinkButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Session["myvariable"] = "dan"; string sessionKey = HttpContext.Current.Session.SessionID; //Followed by some code that posts sessionKey to the other application } I then recieve it in the MVC application and try use the same session like this: [HttpPost] public void Recieve(string sessionKey ) { var manager = new SessionIDManager(); bool redirected; bool IsAdded; manager.SaveSessionID(HttpContext.ApplicationInstance.Context, Id, out redirected, out IsAdded); var sessionKey = Session["myvariable"]; } The key is being posted but the session does not seem to get loaded in the MVC app, i.e. sessionKey is null. Can what I am trying to do be done?

  Hi, I want to use JPA (eclipselink) to get data from my database. The database is changed by a number of other sources and I therefore want to go back to the database for every find I execute. I have read a number of posts on disabling the cache but this does not seem to be working. Any ideas? I am trying to execute the following code: EntityManagerFactory entityManagerFactory = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("default"); EntityManager em = entityManagerFactory.createEntityManager(); MyLocation one = em.createNamedQuery("MyLocation.findMyLoc").getResultList().get(0); MyLocation two = em.createNamedQuery("MyLocation.findMyLoc").getResultList().get(0); System.out.println(one==two); one==two is true while I want it to be false. I have tried adding each/all the following to my persistence.xml <property name="eclipselink.cache.shared.default" value="false"/> <property name="eclipselink.cache.size.default" value="0"/> <property name="eclipselink.cache.type.default" value="None"/> I have also tried adding the @Cache annotation to the Entity itself: @Cache( type=CacheType.NONE, // Cache nothing expiry=0, alwaysRefresh=true ) Am I misunderstanding something? • Serializing Complex ViewModel with Json.Net Destabilization Error on Latest Version

  I just added the latest Version of JSON.Net and I get the System.Security.VerificationException: Operation could destabilize the runtime error when trying to use a controller (while running the application). I read in other posts that this issue should have been fixed in release 6 but I still have the problem. I even added *Newtonsoft.* to the ignore modules in the intellitrace options, which seems to have suppressed the error, but the post will just run forever and not return anything. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. • New to Linux Kernel/Driver development...

  Recently, i began developing a driver of an embedded device running linux. Until now i have only read about linux internals. Having no prior experience in driver devlopment, i am finding it a tad difficult to land my first step. I have downloaded the kernel source-code (v2.6.32). I have read (skimped) Linux Device Drivers (3e) I read a few related posts here on StackOverflow. I understand that linux has a "monolithic" approach. I have built kernel (included existing driver in menuconfig etc.) I know the basics of kconfig and makefile files so that should not be a problem. Can someone describe the structure (i.e. the inter-links) of the various folders in the kernel-source code. In other words given a source-code file, which other files would it refer to for related code (The "#include"-s provide a partial idea) Could someone please help me in getting a better idea? Any help will be greatly appreciated Thank You.

  Full error message: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'PublicationServices.IPublicationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. I have a SharePoint site that I have already opened a project for in Visual Studio 2010. I also created a project that contains a WCF Service Application and added it to the same solution that contains the project for my SharePoint site. I have created a visual web part in my SharePoint project that I am trying to use to consume the WCF Service. I am doing so like this, from within the user control for my web part: PublicationServiceClient proxy = new PublicationServiceClient(); Just having this line alone in OnPreRender, Page_Load, etc. will generate the above error. I've read previous posts about having to have items in the config file of the WCF service also in the config file of the consuming application. I have done this, I copied this section the Web.config file in my WCF service and have placed it in the system.serviceModel tags of my SharePoint project's app.config file: In other words, this is in both of my config files. When I add this web part to the front page of my SharePoint site though, I get the above error every time. I should also note that I have created a console app that I was able to use with no problems to consume data from this very same WCF service. Any help would be appreciated!

  I'm trying to request a HTTP resource that requires basic authorization headers from within an Adobe AIR application. I've tried manually adding the headers to the request, as well as using the setRemoteCredentials() method to set them, to no avail.
