  • How to hunt down a long running request in Rails

    We have a customer complaining about a long running request. I found the request in the production.log but am not sure how to dig deeper into figuring out why it took so long. Is there any artifacts in the log that I should look for? Also the DB and View times don't add up to the total request time.

    Greetings. I am encountering an issue with attachment fu and s3. Details: Production server - Ubuntu - imagemagick, rmagick aws-s3 gems are installed .   • Best way to learn SQL Server

    So I'm getting a new job working with databases (Microsoft SQL Server to be precise). I know nothing about SQL much less SQL Server. They said they'd train me, but I want to take some initiative to learn about it on my own to be ahead. Where's the best place to start (tutorials, books, etc)? I want to learn more about the SQL language moreso than any of the fancy point and click stuff.

    I need to delete a huge chunk of my data in my production database, which runs about 100GB in size. If possible, i would like to minimize my downtime. My selection criteria for deleting is likely to be DELETE * FROM POSTING WHERE USER.ID=5 AND UPDATED_AT<100 What is the best way to delete it? Build an index? Write a sequential script that deletes via paginating through the rows 1000 at a time?

  • How do I store a Java KeyStore password?

    In my web application I access a private key that is stored in a Java KeyStore. I would like to know what is the best/recommended way to store the password for the KeyStore and private key. I've considered using a properties file but that does not seem very secure for use in a production environment (storing password in a plain text file). Also, hard-coding the password in my code is not an option I'm willing to entertain. Thanks.

    I use the following command to push to my remote branch: git push origin sandbox If I say git push origin Does that push changes in my other branches too, or does it only update my current branch? (I have three branches: master, production and sandbox). (The git push documentation is not very clear about this, so I'd like to clarify this for good) What branches/remotes do the following git push commands exactly update? git push git push origin ("origin" above is a remote) (I understand that "git push [remote] [branch]" will push only that branch to the remote)

The issue I have if I go to delete a Database it wants to Delete the DatabaseUser also.. Is there a way to stop this from happening easily?

I would call this not easy one to guess: setCredentialTreatment("SHA1(CONCAT(username, SHA1(CONCAT(username, ?)))"); but it is not portable to all databases. Seems that Doctrine_Expression has only md5 expression portability.

    I'm using MS SQL 2008. Is it possible to create a script to loop over all tables in a database generating a set of index drop scripts and create scripts separately? What I have to do is drop all indexes on a set of databases to run a heavy data load process but then I want to re-enable all the indexes. I don't want to have to go through each table and script an index drop and then index create. Thanks!

    I have declared AdoConnection : TADOConnection; and successfully connected to the default "mysql" database (so, no need to pass that code). Now, taking baby steps to learn, I would like to AdoConnection.Execute('SHOW DATABASES', cmdText); which seems to work ok, in the sense that it doesn't throw an exception, but I am such a n00b that I don't know how I can examine the result of the command :-/ Halp!

    I have 2 databases with a 2 tables with HierachyID fields. For one database I can get a dal cs file, for the other database I cannot get a dal cs file ? HBus is a database I can get the dal cs for, ... SqlMetal /server:.\SQLSERVER2008 /database:HBus /code:HBusDC.cs /views /functions /sprocs /namespace:HBusDC /context:HBusDataContext This kicks me out a file, ... which works, but excludes the HierarchyID field for the table and includes all other fields for that table. This is OK I do not mind.     I have to query two different servers from a dynamically built query. It basically gets data from one server, treats it, and inserts it into another server. The only problem is I have to be sure it works for both situations: If both the source and destination databases are on the same server, and if they're not. I understand the concept of using Linked Servers in SQL Server, but I cannot think of a way to consider both alternatives, same server and different servers. A little help?

Many staff I've encountered have little or no exposure to open source/systems and open source is treated with great suspicion. Some reasons given for this are lack of support and robustness, which is ironic given the number of end-of-life unsupported vendor products that are in production. I'm also interested in any success stories where you've seen open source go into orgs like this and have a real benefit!

  • where has sun mysql database manager gone???

    If I recall correctly, there where at least to desktop programas from sun which were very useful for handling mysql databases... Now, all I can find is some mysql workbench which is only useful for designing data... Both programs I'm talking about allowed you to manage servers, create database, create tables, index, perform querys, edit data, etc... unfortunately I don't even recall there names... Any idea where I can find them? thanks a lot
