  • Command-line tool to deduplicate a single humongous file?

    I make regular snapshots of my VM using a nightly script. These backups are compressed using WinRAR and do shrink considerably, but I suspect it's not as efficient as had the file had been deduplicated first (just a hunch which I'm hoping to test). So instead of compressing the VHD itself, I would like to deduplicate the single file first, and then compress the output of the deduplicator. Is anyone aware of such a CLI tool?

    Hi, I have a 2 1.5TB drives containing numerous video, audio, documents etc that I would like to essentially mirror to 2 other drives for backup. I would like to do this using rsync (as it seems the most appropriate thing to use). What command should I use to do so? Is there anything to be aware of when rsyncing NTFS partitioned drives/files?

    Given a data sample like Prisoner 24601 0.50 Day 1 80 90 Day 2 81 89 Day 3 82 90 Day 4 81 91 What's the easiest way to tell Excel that 24601 and 0.50 are data series names rather than Y axis values when creating a line chart? Approaches I'm aware of: Turn Prisoner numbers into text by having ="24601" and ="0.50" Only select rows 2 onwards as data, and then add in the labels once the graph has been created? Approaches that don't appear to work: Ask Excel to format the first row's numbers as text.

    Is There any possible way to upgrade the retro G-con Light Gun for PS1 to allow it to interact with HD TV's? I am aware that they were Designed purely for Tube TV's but I would be happy to know of any hardware that would maybe convert the light to hit the Pixels on an LCD TV. If not is there any other Light gun that would work on PS1 games but has the newer light gun hardware that can interact with a higher Pixel LCD TV?

    I have problem to mount a compressed (ISZ) image under Linux, which was created by e.g. UltraISO? I am aware about user-space fuseiso, but it fails to mount these images, as I have reported in Debian bugtracker (correct me if I ddi something wrong). I ask the community for a help: I need a proved solution to mount these images without decompressing them. I believe that CONFIG_ZISOFS kernel option cannot help, as it refers a special RockRidge extension (per-file compression with mkisofs -z or mkzftree).

I realize they are different connector types and require compatible equipment, I'm primarily interested in whether there are functional or performance benefits of one technology over another.     I can't seem to get psexec commands to work on Windows 7 Enterprise. I'm trying to execute a command like this: psexec.exe \\172.16.165.157 -u jc -p testing123 -c -f -i cmd.exe But, I keep getting the error: PsExec v1.94 - Execute processes remotely Copyright (C) 2001-2008 Mark Russinovich Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com Error copying C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe to remote system: Access is denied. I'm trying to execute the command from a machine running Windows XP Professional. Has anybody seen an issue like this?

  • Exclude certain files or directories from redirected folders

    We have a windows 2003 AD and are using Folder redirection to redirect the users My Documents to a share. Is there a way to save certain filetypes (*.mp3, *.avi) or folders (My Music, My Pictures) on the user's hard disk instead of saving on the netwerk share? I'm aware of the GPO setting 'Exclude directories in roaming profile' but I'm not sure if that will do what I want (we're using redirected folders)

I want to enable the following function -- when the sub-site administrator publishing a page, the administrator could select to publish to the sub-site only or publish to both root site and sub-site.   • Does moving a file outside NTFS loose data in alertnate data streams?

    I have a lot of files on machine running Windows Server 2008 which I wanted to move to a Fedora machine. How can I keep the attributes stored in, for example, media files (date taken, rating, length, etc) while transfering it to outside the realm of NTFS's Alternate Data Streams. I'm aware that similar metadata exists in other file systems, but what happens when you move these files? And what's the best way to retain them in other file systems?

    Hey I've just installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise onto a newly built PC with this motherboard, but when I try to install the CDROM Support files it reports with an alert that says "Support files incompatible with WIN... blah blah" (Basically they seem to be only compatible with win7). Should I be installing Windows Server 2012 for these drivers? or are there drivers that are compatible with the Server 2003 Operating System?

  • Configure startup order of websphere application withing EAR

    Is it possible to define startup order of the WebSphere enterprise application within EAR (some of descriptor/binding files, META-INF or anywhere else)? The procedure described in IBM InfoCenter requires using AdminConsole, but I would prefer to set fixed order in the EAR to assert that our 2 EAR's will start in fixed order (one is requiring the other to start before). Unfortunatelly, I haven't found in Internet any way for setting startup order other then AdminConsole/wsadmin. I don't want to go into AdminConsole each time I redeploy the EAR.

No one wants to use our current CMS for this, but rather WordPress or something else. The obvious, a static HTML page is out.     I run my taskbar buttons with the setting "Combine when taskbar is full". Is there any way to force some of your pinned taskbar applications to only use the "icon" rather than the icon + label? I am aware of the trick to force the size of the taskbar icons for all applications (detailed here and here), but there are some applications that I would like to only have the icon, and others where it is important to show icon + label.

This way one has per definition at least two sqlserver services running, but what for should this be good? The two instances have to share all the ressouces mainly the RAM. If you have to rename the server you will end up with an access like \NEWSQLServer\OldInstanceName. So what is the case for instances?

    I'm looking to get a fault-tolerant USB flash drive, which saves data to multiple independent locations, whether using RAID or some other means to back up data. Has a product like this ever been created, or are my only options to hack something together? (By the way: I'm aware that RAID doesn't prevent data corruption from software or the file system. I'm just looking for something that can handle one of the memory sticks going dead.)

  • Find what pages IE is fetching similar to console in firebug?

    Firebug Lite bookmarklet is no help here, on half the pages it doesn't even show up. What I need is basically this: to show what IE is connecting to, because my application is working fine in firefox and chrome, but in an enterprise/corporate environment, I have to get it working with IE as well, and it's not working there. Any ideas of how I can get something similar just to see what the page is trying to (or not trying to) connect to? I'm using IE8 for this (on an windows XP machine, can't use IE9)
