  • Which languages are dynamically typed and compiled (and which are statically typed and interpreted)?

    In my reading on dynamic and static typing, I keep coming up against the assumption that statically typed languages are compiled, while dynamically typed languages are interpreted. I know that in general this is true, but I'm interested in the exceptions. I'd really like someone to not only give some examples of these exceptions, but try to explain why it was decided that these languages should work in this way.

  • Binding UserControl to a NULL DataContext

    I have a UserControl and am binding its DataContext to an object. I also bind the IsEnabled property of the UserControl to a boolean property of that object eg: <my:MyUserControl DataContext="{Binding Items.SelectedItem}" IsEnabled="{Binding Path=IsEditable}"/> This works fine provided Items.SelectedItem is not null. However, if it is null (which can happen sometimes if the Items collection is empty), the IsEnabled binding does not get evaluated and is set to true, which is not the desired behaviour. I've tried using a MultiBinding but without success because I don't know if it's possible to bind to the DataContext. I've also tried using a DataTrigger, but again without success. Would somebody kindly point me in the right direction as to the correct way I should be doing this. Thanks!

I am using MooTools 1.2.2. Would somebody be able to point me in the right direction?

    Good Afternoon All, I'm having trouble integrating this template into my rails application. I've changes all the images and loaded all the files into their relevant areas. However they still have the subdirectories. Does anyone know of a guide I can walk through which might explain how you do this, especially to include the revolution-slider which has a whole subdirectory of CSS and images.   • Is this a Java DateFormat bug?

    The pattern is "dd-MM-yyyy" I think the string "01-01-2010mwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" does not satisfy the pattern, but the following code shows the contrary.   • setting source classpath in eclipse

    What do you guys do, when you have huge project built with ant for instance, where the source folders are right bellow the root project folder for building classpath from source files ? putting entire project as a source folder is nonsense. Putting separate folders as source folders can't be done if they are part of the package hierarchy and the only thing I could think of, is to copy the source folders into a separate folder and add it then as source folder which is weird but I don't know how else to do it. Having to duplicate sources just because of the eclipse way of making classpath and also because of somebody doing stupid project structure

    Applications which run on mobile devices have special user interface requirements. I think Apple did a great job introducing innovative controls on the iPhone/iPod touch platform. Now, I have to design an application for the Windows Mobile platform using the .NET Compact Framework (Visual Studio 2008). I wonder if there are some commercial or open source UI control sets available which are similar to the iPhone / iPod touch UI elements: Scrolling panels based on gestures Instead of a dropdownlist: a new panel with a large list of items Sliding panels etc. I couldn't find any useful products/code. Maybe there is somebody out there with more experience who could help.

  • why do i see THROW in a C library

    When I do: less /usr/include/stdio.h (which is only a C library - nothing to do with C++) I see __THROW after quite a few function declarations. Also, comments above a few functions say that 'This function is a possible cancellation point and therefore not marked with __THROW' What is all this for? THROW is meant to be for exception handling.. but as far as I know, C doesn't provide any support for it... Plz explain.

  • rails update whole index of a model with one click

    hello! i have a store model, this will handle my leaflet and my shoppingcart for my shop. now i d´like to show all items added from an user to his leaflet in the index of store. in the store an user can change the quantity of the choosen items. and now i want to save that the changes of the different quantities in the database with one click on a button "update store". so how could i implement an update over the whole index with one click? i´d like to do this with ajax and most dynamically. somebody has an idea? i render all items into a form so far, but now i have the problem, when i submit this form only the last quantity and item id are included in the params. further i pushed every quantity into an array and i want to submit this also as a param. but i could not. please give me some tips, will be very fine :) mattherick

  • When are you truly forced to use UUID as part of the design?

    I don't really see the point of UUID. I know the probability of a collision is effectively nil, but effectively nil is not even close to impossible. Can somebody give an example where you have no choice but to use UUID? From all the uses I've seen, I can see an alternative design without UUID. Sure the design might be slightly more complicated, but at least it doesn't have a non-zero probability of failure. UUID smells like global variables to me. There are many ways global variables make for simpler design, but its just lazy design.

I have a class called Project, a project can have multiple forecasts.Now If I want to check if the projects has any forecasts or not should I use a readonly boolean property called HasForecast() or should I use a method named HasForecast() which basically returns a boolean value.From framework design guidelines I came to know that methods should be used when the operation is complex,since here I'm retrieving the value of forecasts from DB should I consider method, or since it is a logical data member should I use a property.If I use a property can I call a method in DBLayer from its getter.Please explain Regards, Ravi

  • The order of a SQL Select statement without Order By clause

    As I know, from the relational database theory, a select statement without an order by clause should be considered has not particular order. But actually in SQL Server and Oracle (I've tested on those 2 platforms), if I query from a table without an order by clause multiple times, I always get the results in the same order.     In his book programming in scala (Chapter 5 Section 5.9 Pg 93) Odersky mentioned this expression "bills !*&^%~ code! In the footnote on same page: "By now you should be able to figure out that given this code,the Scala compiler would invoke (bills.!*&^%~(code)).!()." That's a bit to cryptic for me, could someone explain what's going on here?
