• Why do my Xcode default font starts to look ugly after some time, until I restart?

  I plugged in an external monitor. All resolutions match perfectly. MacBookPro LCD is closed. After about 10 minutes my fonts in Xcode start to look very bad. Only in Xcode. When I restart the mac and don't use an external monitor, fonts look all right again. When I attach the monitor again, fonts look nice. Then I close XCode and reopen it: Fonts suck. All other fonts look great. It seems like Xcode isn't antialiasing them properly after something happens. For my observation it happens when I quit and reopen Xcode while an external monitor is in use. Only way to fix it then is to completely reboot. Is there a fix for this problem?

• Alternate to control+drag to connect view element with file owner in xCode interface builder?

  Working on an iPhone application through a TightVNC connection into a Mac Mini; the control+drag operation in Interface Builder to connect a view element to file owner doesn't work - I don't see the connecting line. It does work when I connect keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Mini and work on it directly, however it is a lot more convenient for me to run it through a VNC connection. Must be some quirk of the TightVNC connection that is preventing this. I tried different TightVNC settings for the cursor (let server handle it and so on) but no luck. Is there an alternative to control+drag to hook up outlets?

• Develop iPhone application remotely?

  4 java developers are new to iPod Touch/iPhone app development. They have an idea for an app. They have never used Xcode or Macs before. Instead of spending money for a new iMac or Mac Mini for each of them, my boss would like to sell them a $999 Apple server, hosted at a facility connected a single T1 line, and have all 4 people work remotely in Xcode. Is this feasible? Is anyone doing anything like this? Specifically, is 1 T1 enough for realistic remote app development? Would they have to work in black & white via Logmein or Gotomeeting to get decent speed? Can four people work remotely together on an Xcode project at the same time? Do they absolutely need their own Macs to connect their iPod Touches or iPhones physically to, or can they connect to their existing PCs with iTunes and install their in-development apps that way?

  Is there any software/script that will allow me to cd (change directories) into .jar/.ear/.zip files and edit the contents of the files it contains? I'm working on a large EJB project (yuck), and I frequently find myself in situations like the following: something.ear/ |-- something.jar/ | `-- fileINeedToEdit.xml I work primarily via the command line (Mac/Linux), so I find myself decompressing the files with jar -xvf, editing the file I need to edit, and then recompressing with jar -cvf. Obviously, this becomes a major headache after the first few times. I'd like to be able to treat the compressed files as directories, and simply cd (or some alternate command) to the file I want to edit. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

What I gathered from here is that I can find the printers in the /Library/Printers/ directory. When I searched there, I found more folders which didn't really mean anything to me.   I know Ruby right now, however I want to learn a new language. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 right now but I am going to get a Mac later this summer. Anyways I want something more for GUI development. I was wondering if I should learn C on Ubuntu right now, and then learn Objective-C when I get an iMac? Will learning C give me an edge? Or should I just learn Python on Ubuntu and then learn Objective-C when I get a new computer? Please give me your opinions! Thanks!

  Hello all, I am really looking for implementation advice as I have entered a new realm that I am not familiar with. At the simplest level, I would like to find a way that I can read/write to a users machine from my web server. For this to work, I think I will have to install some sort of "plugin" on the users machine which can receive (or poll?) the server for instructions. The above is the line of thought that I currently have, maybe using JAVA to do this. This needs to work on Linux, Mac and Windows OS. I am really looking for advice on the above, is it a good idea?   I have been self-teaching myself Java on the mac mostly because the language is cross-platform. Recently, I have been only able to develop 2D games using the Graphics2D class. Now, I want to learn how to make 3D games in Java. I used to model and animate stuff in 3D, so my knowledge of 3-Dimensional stuff is okay. I have spent the last 3 hours using google to look up ways of making 3D games in java.   I started RoR development a few months ago, and being new to Mac... Time flies and now I have a lot different ruby versions, rails versions and gems versions located everywhere......And currently I installed rvm and things got even worst, all things messed! And so I started want to clean all things and use rvm again! I want to uninstall all gems, all rails, and all ruby versions, except the system's default one (the very old one born with the mac). • How does a frame retrieve the recipient's MAC address?

  I am studying a Network+ book named All-in-one CompTia Network+ by Mike Meyers. In chapter 2 he talks about frames and how he represents them as canisters and the data within the frame contains the recipients mac address, senders mac address, data, and sequence number. What I don't understand is if the sender is sending a file via the network to the recipient, and this frame contains this data, how does the frame know what the recipients MAC address is before sending it? In regards to TCP/IP when it contains the recipients IP address, that's understandable how it retrieves that value. But I don't understand how it can retrieve the MAC address, because if that frame comes from the senders computer, goes into the router and copies itself to each and every computer that exists on the network, how did it have the MAC address to know where to go? Let me know if I'm not making sense.

  I wish to add static entries to the ARP table of my machine so that it uses a dummy MAC 00:11:22:33:44:55 for any IP address within the subnet 10.0.0.0/8 Using arp -s 10.0.0.0/8 00:11:22:33:44:55 does not work. What can I do? PS - I know it might sound strange why anyone would want to do this but kindly bear with me here. EDIT: I am using this so that the hosts do not send a broadcast ARP message. I route the packets to the appropriate last hop router which changes the dst MAC from the fake MAC to the MAC of the dst IP address. I can get everything working except I have to manually enter the fake MAC for each subnet IP address.
