• Is there a way to tag MP3 the way you can do with Photos in Live Photo Gallery or Picazza?

  I really do love the way you can tag pictures in Windows Live Photo Gallery. I find it incredibly useful to be able to tag the same picture with the tag "Cancun" and have it been automatically included when I look for the tag "Beach", "Trips" and "Fun Pic", since its a child tag of the former and also has a tag for the later. I also like that I can look for rating in the pics. On the other side, tagging MP3 has always been a pain in the ass, because I just find it to hard to classify music! Is it pop? techno? techno-pop? rock? indie-rock? indie-post-classic-pop-techno? I hate how ID3 just have one tag for genre, so I've tried tricks like putting all the genres I think it fits into, and then having lists in Winamp (which I dont use anymore) that filter out words in the ID3 tags (ie, Tag: Genre, Contains: Rock = rock list). But then, what about moods? I want to be able to tag my songs in genres and in moods, you know, happy, concentrate/work, party, romantic (wink wink), etc. Is there any way to do this, preferably in a way in which tags could carry on to other music players? I'm sure this was not healthy for the machine, and that a clean install would do wonders, but I'd like to fix the current install.   I want to improve our mail server lists by handling all the bounces we get in our websites. I have a website which has over 8000+ users and another website which as over 1500+ users, they are emailed various notifications every second, ie. job alerts, email alerts, I am using POP connections with EXIM on APACHE server, most scripts are based on PHP language generates email on the fly. Problems i have But some users has registered long time ago and now quite few has bounce email address Some users register with dummy emails like [email protected] which never existed but a valid email address, any chance of stopping this without asking them login to the email account and clicking links which dont work most times.. (too annoying to the end user) Server is sending unnecessary emails can be avoided if i know they dont exists ? Solutions i need to have Is there a way i can download the bounce email list somewhere (WHM/Cpanel), i know exim mail has it but its not readable (i need a file like CSV or something similar to scan them over and write a php script to delete the users from the database ?) I need to know if there is any function in the PHP that can check the existence of the email address on the fly ? so that i can set the email send function in the mailer class to check before it sends out. On the server will bouncing emails are going to eatup lots of server resources ? like memory/cpu on processing them ? or are they are minimal where we dont have to worry about this at all ? May be a opensoruce or linux software to capture them and view them in a report basis and cleaning them up ? I am not a linux expert or server admin but i do lot of PHP coding, so please be descriptive of the solutions specially if they are linux commands Thank you!

• sudoer scheme for another web developer that retains my future control of a virtual server?

  Background: Virtual Private Server I have a virtual private server that I'm looking to host multiple websites on, and provide access to another web developer. I don't care about putting too many constraints on him, though I wouldn't mind isolating the site that he'll be developing from other sites on the server that I will develop. The problem: retain control Mainly what I want is to make sure that I retain control over the server in the future. I want to reserve the ability to create/promote/demote and other administrative functions that don't deal with web software. If I make him an admin, he can sudo su - and become root and remove root control from me, for example. I need him not to be able to: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions I would like him to still be able to: install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc/ Other Standard Setups would be happily considered I've never really set up a good sudoers file, so simple example setups would be very useful, even if they're only somewhat similar to the settings that I'm hoping for above. Edit: I have not yet finalized permissions, standard, useful sudo setups are certainly an option, the lists above are more what I'm hoping I can do, I don't know that that setup can be done.

After adding my domain to my plesk panel of my server I opened DNS records of that domain and found DNS records are automatically generated to my needs as following 65.75.241.26 / 24 PTR softmail.me. ftp.softmail.me. CNAME softmail.me. lists.softmail.me. CNAME softmail.me. mail.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 mssql.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 ns.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 sitebuilder.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 softmail.me. NS ns.softmail.me. softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 softmail.me. MX (10) mail.softmail.me. webmail.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 www.softmail.me. CNAME softmail.me. Finally I waited for a week for I am unable to use my domain. Also in DNS lookup I cannot find any records to my Server except name servers of VPSland. Do I need to add VPSland namesevers anywhere in Plesk panel? If so where? Can anyone assist me where the mistake is?...

• How do I configured postfix and to use SES, and still be able to forward email from unverified external addresses?

  We are using postfix for email group lists (eg "[email protected]" will go to all members) from Amazon EC2 systems. For a variety of reasons (scalability and reliability) we would like to use SES for all outgoing emails. I was able to configure postfix to use SES as the SMTP for outgoing emails. This works fine for all verified emails. But of course, when an outsider emails me at "[email protected]", it chokes. Postfix is configured to forward to my gmail account (via the virtual table), the SES rejects it because the outside user is not verified. So none of our mailing groups configured through postfix will work this way. I would be happy to rewrite all "From" addresses before sending (and simply leave the Reply To as the original sender), but I cannot seem to find a working configuration. No matter what I set in canonical or generic regexps, SES seems to reject all forwarded emails. Surely somebody must have configured postfix with SES to handle virtual addresses? How does this work?

Here are the requirements: Approx 1000-1500 users - Postfix or Exim? (Sendmail is out;-)) Mailing lists for different groups/Need web based archive - Mailman? Sympa? Centralised identity store - OpenLDAP? Fedora 389DS? Secure IMAP only - no POP3 required - Courier? Dovecot? Cyrus?? Anti Spam - SpamAssasin? what else? Calendaring - ?? webmail - good to have, not mandatory - needs to be very secure...so squirrelmail is out;-)? Other questions: What mailbox storage format to use? where to store? database/file system? Simple and effective HA options? Is there a web proxy equivalent to squid in the mail server world? software load balancers?CARP? Monitoring and alert? Backup? The govt wants to stimulate the local economy by buying hardware locally from whitebox vendors. Also local consultants and university students will do the integration. We looked at out-of-the-box integrated solutions like Axigen, Zimbra and GMail but each was ruled out in favour of a DIY approach in the hopes of full control over the data and avoiding vendor lockin - which i though was a smart thing to do. I wish more provincial governments in the developing world think of these sort of initiatives As for OS - Debian, FreeBSD would be first preference. Commercial OS's need not apply. CentOS as second tier option...

• What applications do people use for windows folder management? How do you switch between folders in

  I'm always switching between client's folders in different applications like photoshop, sql manager, explorer etc. It's so slow to go between them, navigate to the folder and it's still too slow to copy and paste the directory etc. It's so annoying to do. Someone must have a good solution. I was thinking if there was a "recently accessed" folders list available within every folder explorer window... so in any application, if i go "file open" it will have something, somewhere that lists the recently accessed folders - that would be really helpful. I am aware of the recent places folder in win7, but this sucks because it is not sorted by date accessed. Perhaps if there was a way to change this then this would become a decent feature? Is there some application that already does this? i'm sure someone has already solved this issue in a more elegant solution than I can think off. I'm keen to know what programs people use or how people addresss this issue? Thanks...

• Thundrbird 3: can't change column width?

  I recently installed Thunderbird 3.0.3. Just noticed a suboptimal UI setting: in the upper pane, which lists the e-mails in the current folder, the Date column is about 200px wide. So when I keep the window at 480x600, all I see in a row is: | tree icon | favourites icon | attachment icon | read icon | junk icon | Date and time, followed by 5cm whitespace | ... | P Where "P" is the first letter of the name of the sender. And the "..." is actually shown this way, I have no idea which column it is meant to be. But I don't see neither the sender, nor the message subject, which makes scrolling a folder for a certain mail rather pointless. I see these when I maximize the window, actually the columns are then not only bigger, they are arranged in another sequence. But I feel that holding a mail client permanently maximised at 1600x1200 is a waste of screen real estate. My naive solution attempt was to try to go with the mouse cursor to the right edge of the date column and try to shrink it by moving the cursor left while holding down the left mouse button. Not only is this default behaviour for all resizable columns I've ever encountered in GUIs, the cursor actually turns into a horizontal double-headed arrow. But pulling has no effect at all. I cannot make a wide column narrow, and I cannot make the narrow columns wide. I didn't find anything in the preferences either. So can please somebody explain how to get the columns arranged sensibly?

• How to change libcurl SSL backend from gnutls to openssl on Ubuntu server

  I am getting gnutls specific errors in my Tornado webserver while processing Google OpenID SSL responses. One of the suggestions I got from Tornado mailing list is to try OpenSSL backend instead of gnutls. But it doesn't seem to be straightforward on Ubuntu server (11.10). On Ubuntu server, gnutls is provided by libcurl3-gnutls package and openssl curl support is provided by libcurl4-openssl-dev package. (I don't know why the later is named 4 and dev, but I couldn't find any other openssl+curl package in apt-cache search). I had libcurl3-gnutls installed by default, but not libcurl4-openssl-dev. So I installed the later and restarted Torando instances. But that didn't seem to work. I still got same gnutls errors. I found old discussions on curl mailing lists regarding the problems of supporting different SSL backends to libcurl, but didn't find exactly how is it done today. So far my guess is openssl is built into libcurl and gnutls is provided through separate package (that will explain why there is no libcurl3-openssl). But how do I make libcurl to pick up openssl backend and not gnutls? Is there some option in libcurl/pycurl API to do this? I tried uninstalling libcurl3-gnutls, but apt-get prompted that it will also remove python-pycurl along with it. So that won't do.

• Hotmail marking messages as junk

  I was having problems with emails sent from my server being blocked completely by Hotmail, but I found out Hotmail had blocked my IP and by contacting Hotmail I had the block removed. See this question for more info: Email sent from server with rDNS & SPF being blocked by Hotmail But now all emails from my server are going directly to recipients "Junk" folder on hotmail and I can't figure out why. Hotmail says "Microsoft SmartScreen marked this message as junk and we'll delete it after ten days." I tried contacting the same people at Hotmail who had my IP block removed, but I haven't received any reply and its been almost a week. Here are some details: I have a valid SPF record for my domain "v=spf1 a include:_spf.google.com ~all" I have reverse DNS setup I have a Sender Score of 100 https://www.senderscore.org/lookup.php?lookup=66.199.162.177&ipLookup.x=55&ipLookup.y=14 I have signed up for Microsoft's SNDS and was approved. My ip says "All of the specified IPs have normal status."   I'm getting blue screens, mostly when trying to boot a program that required a lot of memory (games, photo editing software.) So far I've only managed to catch one set of error codes: BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: ADA393BA BCP3: E9BCEBC4 BCP4: 00000000 OS Version: 6_0_6002 Service Pack: 2_0 Product: 768_1 It's on a Sony VAIO Laptop VGN FW-41E, Vista OS service pack 2. Besides these codes it lists two 'temporary' files that were related with this crash: ...AppData\Local\Temp\WER-134925-0.sysdata.xml ...AppData\Local\Temp\WERDA66.tmp.version.txt When I googled these files some site said it was linked to a worm called 'yodo', but virus scans don't return any results (hitman pro, malware bytes, avast antivirus all turn up empty). Upon further searching about this yodo worm, I came across security stronghold where someone posted they had acquired this worm when downloading access and excel templates. Now, I actually did download templates for the same programs, they might have been the same, they may be related or I might be grasping at straws here. I have not noticed any issues other in performance as of late, just BSOD's when I start software that requires some memory, but I never had issues with these exact same programs before. Help and/or hints are required on how to actually figure out what's the root of this BSOD issue and how can I fix it. Do you reckon it's actually a virus? What program should be able to remove YODO worm stuff?

• Cannot find wireless driver for HP laptop

  I have an HP laptop (model: dv7-1267cl, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium) and I cannot find the wireless driver for the laptop. I am need of a different version because my wireless connection under Windows is flaky and unreliable. I have problems printing to my wireless printer and logging in to and using several sites like reddit.com, phoenix.edu and facebook.com - I get several "page cannot be displayed" messages while using my wireless connection. I disable my wireless adapter and use an ethernet cable and it all works fine. I also used an Ubuntu Live CD to confirm that there is not a problem with the hardware. This is software/driver issue. The drivers were auto installed by the OS. The Device Manager shows the wireless adapter as Atheros AR5009 802.11 a/g/n WiFi Adapter. I have checked the HP website for my laptop and they do not have wireless drivers listed for that model wireless adapter. I have also checked with atheros.com and I do not see my model adapter on their list of available hardware. Device Manager lists the Hardware ID's for my adapter as: PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&SUBSYS_1381103C&REV_01 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&SUBSYS_1381103C PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&CC_028000 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&CC_0280 A search for the first Hardware ID turned up this question from experts-exchange.com. tl;dr A driver does not exist for that model adapter.

• No power save on external hard drive - How to implement?

  I recently bought a new 3.5" USB external hard drive which I thought had a power save feature on it, but it turns out that it doesn't. So whether it's being used or not, it spins, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't so loud and didn't get really really hot. After doing some research, it seems like what controls this is the enclosure of the hard drive and not the drive itself or the OS (although I suspect that's not entirely true). I attempted to use the "hdparm" utility but it couldn't identify my externals. Just to be clear, I'm defining power save as a hard drive spinning down after a certain time period of not being used (read from/written to). Also, I have other externals that do this, so it's not a problem from my computer. Here's my question: Is there a way to implement a power save-like feature on my hard drive through software, OS settings, or anything else? Here's some details: Running: Windows XP Home SP2 HD Model: Cavalry CAUM-B-OTB 2TB (although the website only lists 1TB max) Inside: Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 (HDS722020ALA330) (I would link, but new users can only post 1) Thanks in advance.

• Monitor displays at 1024x768; scrolls screen for higher resolutions

  I have a dual monitor setup. Normally, they both display at 1680x1050. They have been setup this way for about a year. I'm using Windows XP Professional 2003 x64 SP2. Today, out of nowhere, one of the monitors kicked back to a lower resolution. I was not playing with any configuration at the time.. in fact all I had done was close a window (maybe a browser). But the thing is that the resolution is still preserved partially by the fact that the screen will scroll when you move the mouse. So it's like looking through a 1024x768 window into a 1680x1050 world. The monitor itself does not appear to be damaged, because I also have it connected to my netbook (via KVM) and higher resolutions work fine. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers to no avail. System restore doesn't help either. I'm unsure of the exact ATI card I'm using.. Device Manager lists it as "Radeon X300/X550/X1050". There is no Catalyst Control Center software installed. I tried to install it, but there doesn't seem to be a way to install it by itself ... it forces you to install another driver, which breaks both of my displays, forcing me to go into safe mode and run system restore again. Any ideas? Thanks

• Control Panel as menu includes a blank item

  When viewed as a menu attached to the Start Menu in Windows 7 Ultimate x64, the Control Panel contains a blank item. It looks like this: This item cannot be deleted or removed. I also cannot create a shortcut to it. No error message is displayed, instead simply nothing happens. I've tried using Shell Object Editor (using Run as Administrator) to find out if there is an errant entry on the Control Panel, but many entries (almost two dozen) are blank. There are several valid entries as well. I've looked through the registry and through C:\Windows, \system32, and \SysWOW64 but have had no success. I looked at this question, but I am not using Windows XP and thus have no option to use Tweak UI's Rebuild Icons function. Please note that this is no empty entry in the Control Panel when opened normally, only when attached to the Start Menu as a menu. I have compared the list of entries on the attached menu to the normal Control Panel and other than the blank entry, they are exactly the same. Nothing is missing from one or the other. I've also compared the menu and the normal view to reference images and lists of Control Panel items and have found no irregularities. Is anyone familiar with this problem or know of a solution? I've performed virus and malware scans and found nothing. I've used CCleaner with no change. Nothing with Shell Object Editor. Nothing with Registry Editor. Certainly someone here knows how to fix this. My only guess is the many blank entries visible in Shell Object Editor, but I am reluctant to delete that many items without further analysis and guidance. I appreciate your time and consideration.
