  • JLabel which hides text after reaching certain length or number of values

    The purpose of the JLabel is to show who a message is to, like in a mail client e.g. To: John, Mary, Peter, Frank, Tom, Harry I will have the names in a vector so can build up a string from that and then set the label's text to this string. However it has the potential to get quite long. I was think it might be nice to have something like this: To: John, Mary, Peter, Frank, Tom, Harry, ... Then when you click on the '...', it will expand more or just show a tool tip if you mouse over the ... Yes this idea is stolen from Thunderbird! I am open to other ideas, don't have to use a JLabel. Thanks.

    Ok so I'm trying to get Refinerycms working with Heroku, and I'm new at all of this. I've set up an amazon s3 account and added keys and ids to the amazon_s3.yml files.     For whatever reason, IBM uses https (without requiring credentials) for their RSS feeds. I can open this feed in a browser and it loads just fine.   • NSMutableString leaks on append or replaceOccurrencesOfString

    Hello Folks, I know similar questions have been asked time and time again but I ask that you please bear with me as I cannot seem to find an answer that helps. My application has leaks that are driving me out of my mind. Actually, they are not reported as leaks using Leaks, but my net bytes in ObjectAlloc goes up and up and up and never stops, eventually leading to a crash if it goes on long enough (not very long). The problem occurs with NSMutableStrings. I think there is either something fundamental I don't understand about them, or I am facing another problem that I am having difficulty tracking down but keeps hiding behind the NSMutableStrings. Specifically, I am noticing that whenever I append to or perform a replace on a NSMutableString, ObjectAlloc reports what appear to be mismatches in malloc/frees behind the scene when resizing the NSMutableString. I'm sorry to say this is the second time I'm facing this problem - the first time I messed around for hours and hours and finally the problem went away (magic!) but I don't really know why. When I look at the code below (and believe me, I've stared at it for hours) I cannot see the problem. I look at the code and think to myself that I should be fine because I'm releasing the only object for which I am responsible (aString) and that NSMutableString should be taking care of cleaning up after any resizing it does. In the second example, just so you know in case it helps, the string being passed in comes from an ASIHTTPRequest object (it's the responseString) and I don't do anything at all with it. It's being called simply like so ([self DoStuff2:[request responseString]]) and I don't free the request myself either (I'm using a ASINetworkQueue and I assume that the requests are destroyed for me (I tried and caused errors because the request was already being release somewhere else). Also, I know it shouldn't do anything, but I even tried wrapping the code in autorelease pools, which of course did nothing. I should mention that this code is being run inside of an NSOperation. I thought that perhaps I am experiencing problems because NSOperations should create an autorelease pool for themselves, but I've tried that to no avail. Not related to NSMutableString, but I find I also have similar problems using the NSString componentsSeparatedByString method. Sometimes the memory used by the array that gets the separated components is never released. Hmmm...strings in general seem to be somewhat problematic for me it seems. I would appreciate ANY help anyone can provide. If you require more info, I'll be glad to add it. I do promise you that I've struggled with this (and other problems) for weeks and every problem I encounter I research hard and long until I find a solution - this is not an idle request, but a true cry for help! I've written so much code and now I'm trying to seal some small leaks etc and I notice this problem. Honestly, I cannot believe how memory management in Objective C can stump me so at times...I've read Apple's memory mgmt docs many times and I thought I thoroughly understood it and I try to be diligent about releasing objects I own, but sometimes I find myself wondering if I truly understand...I would like to put this to bed once and make sure I understand all this fully - to have this sort of question/problem after writing thousands of lines of code is more than a little scary/embarrassing/annoying. So again, if anybody has any insight, I'd be grateful.   • WPF Datagrid zoom issue

    I'm working with the WPF DataGrid from the WPFToolkit and I'm having issues with trying to zoom the entire datagrid. My initial thought was that it was going to be really easy and I would just apply a scale transform to the grid and animate the ScaleX, ScaleY properties when the used clicked a button. This did not work however because the scrollbar was zoomed in making it larger. I need fixed headers and fixed columns on the datagrid so I can't simple use a scrollviewer outside of the datagrid to handle the scrolling. The second thing I tried was to just scale the font size in the grid, but this failed because on shrinking the font size the columns stay at the original width and do not shrink. Finally I thought I had it working by using the below code which goes into the view tree for the datagrid and adds a scale transform to the Scroll Content Presenter. (Also not shown in this code, I apply a transform to the visual tree item for the headers in the same manner so that it scales as well). I thought this was working great until I tested out the horizontal scrolling after zooming. (Vertical scrolling works perfectly.) Before zooming at all the horizontal scrolling is fine, but after zooming, when I scroll horzonitally the display freaks out. It is hard to tell exactly what it is doing, but it sort of looks like the content that is scrolling off the left of the screen is "folding over" and coming back in on the left. Maybe it is just all smashing up on the left side. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this working, hopefully without throwing out my whole datagrid that is already working quite well otherwise.   • rails: "unknown action" message when action is clearly specified

    hi, I had hard time to figure out why I've been getting "unknown action" error message when I was do some editing: Unknown action No action responded to 11. Actions: bin, create, destroy, edit, index, new, observe_new, show, tag, update, and vote you can see that Rails did mention each action in the above list - update. And in my form, I did specify action = "update".     Hi All, I'm having a bit of trouble with regex's (C#, ASP.NET), and I'm pretty sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. My task is to bind a dynamically created gridview to a datasource, and then iterate through a column in the grid, looking for the string "A&I". An example of what the data in the cell (in template column) looks like is: Name: John Doe Phone: 555-123-1234 Email: john[email protected] Dept: DHS-A&I-MRB Here's the code I'm using to find the string value: foreach(GridViewRow gvrow in gv.Rows) { Match m = Regex.Match(gvrow.Cells[6].Text,"A&I"); if(m.Success) { gvrow.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red; } } I'm not having any luck with any of these variations: "A&I" "[A][&][I]" But when I strictly user "&", the row does turn red. If I remove the interception configuration from the Unity container, and simply do this: IUnityContainer container = new UnityContainer(); container.RegisterType(typeof(IRepository<Person>), typeof(Example.Data.InMemory.Repository<Person>)); It works as expected, and the MessageHandler has an instance if IRepository resolved.

    I have a MySQL table where all the data in one column was entered in UPPERCASE, but I need to convert in to Title Case, with recognition of "small words" akin to the Daring Fireball Title Case script. I found this excellent solution for transforming strings to lowercase, but the Title Case function seems to have been left out of my version of MySQL. Is there an elegant way to do this?

  • JQuery SelectToUISlider Issues

    Hopefully this hasn't been asked before as just a slider question, but I couldn't find an answer when already browsing questions. So, here goes: I have a SelectToUISlider (http://www.filamentgroup.com/lab/update_jquery_ui_slider_from_a_select_element_now_with_aria_support/) which is basically a modified JQuery UI Slider, and I'm using a range value. So, I start with one handle at 60, and another at 100 (scale from 0 to 100). What I want to do is click a radio button so that the 100 changes to a 0, and be able to change back to 100. I have been unsuccessful at changing it via JQuery selectors/javascript. However, when changing the selects to move the handles, this works, but the range appears not to follow if the second handle (at 100) moves to 0 behind the first handle (at 60). I'm thinking I might have to destroy the slider and rebuild it with the second handle (that starts as 100) become the first handle at 0 in this scenario (although I've tried destroying it and it doesn't seem to respond to that either.)     Users can sketch in my app using a very simple tool (move mouse while holding LMB). This results in a series of mousemove events and I record the cursor location at each event. The resulting polyline curve tends to be rather dense, with recorded points almost every other pixel. I'd like to smooth this pixelated polyline, but I don't want to smooth intended kinks. So how do I figure out where the kinks are? The image shows the recorded trail (red pixels) and the 'implied' shape as a human would understand it. People tend to slow down near corners, so there is usually even more noise here than on the straight bits.

    My google Docs Spreadsheet call returns this response in the json format (I only need everything after "rows") please look at the formatted response here : ) I use php's json_decode function to parse the data and use it (Yes, I am awful at php) This code returns NULL, and according to the documentation, NULL is returned "if the json cannot be decoded". $json = file_get_contents($jsonurl); $json_output = json_decode($json); var_dump ($json_output); // Returns NULL Basically, what i want to accomplish is to make a simple array from the first row values of the Json response. like this $array = {'john','John Handcock','[email protected]','2929292','blanc'} You guys are genius, I would appreciate your insight and help on this very much! Answer as "sberry2A" mentions bellow, the response is not valid Json, google offers the Zend Json library for this purpose, tho I decided to parse the tsv-excel version instead :)

  • "Work stealing" vs. "Work shrugging (tm)"?

    Why is it that I can find lots of information on "work stealing" and nothing on a "work shrugging(tm)" as a load-balancing strategy? I am surprised because work-stealing seems to me to have an inherent weakness when implementating efficient fine-grained load-balancing. Vis:- Relying on consumer processors to implement distribution (by actively stealing) begs the question of what these processors do when they find no work? None of the work-stealing references and implementations I have come across so far address this issue satisfactorarily for me. They either:- 1) Manage not to disclose what they do with idle processors! [Cilk] (?anyone know?) 2) Have all idle processors sleep and wake periodically and scatter messages to the four winds to see if any work has arrived [e.g. JAWS] (= way too latent & inefficient for me). 3) Assume that it is acceptable to have processors "spinning" looking for work ( = non-starter for me!) Unless anyone thinks there is a solution for this I will move on to consider a "Work Shrugging(tm)" strategy. Having the task-producing processor distribute excess load seems to me inherently capable of a much more efficient implementation. However a quick google didn't show up anything under the heading of "Work Shrugging" so any pointers to prior-art would be welcome. tx Tags I would have added if I was allowed to [work-stealing]

    Background: I couldn't find any decent free HTML to PDF conversion utilities in C#. There are 100s of them for PHP with extensive documentation, support, and CSS support. So I am using html2ps and html2pdf (php). I have PHP 5.2 installed on IIS7 and its working beautifully to create PDFs. I have the following in getPDF.aspx <!-- Output the header --> <DM:header runat="server" ID="header" /> <asp:Placeholder id="content" runat="server" /> <!-- Output the footer --> <DM:footer runat="server" ID="footer" /> and in getPDF.aspx.cs: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ // AddContentControl simples adds a controls to the content Placeholder. AddContentControl("controls/page1.ascx"); AddContentControl("controls/page2.ascx"); AddContentControl("controls/page3.ascx"); } and in generatePDF.php: <?php /* ... includes and stuff here ... */ $data = "THE HTML GOES HERE!"; // creates the PDF from the $data and Outputs the created file. convert_to_pdf($data); ?> -- getPDF.aspx works perfectly...except the output is HTML. So how can I get getPDF.aspx to output its HTML as PDF generated by generatePDF.php?

  • "QFontEngine(Win) GetTextMetrics failed ()" error on 64-bit Windows

    I'll add 500 of my own rep as a bounty when SO lets me. I'm using wkhtmltopdf to convert HTML web pages to PDFs. This works perfectly on my 32-bit dev server [unfortunately, I can't ship my machine :-p ]. However, when I deploy to the web application's 64-bit server the following errors are displayed: C:\>wkhtmltopdf http://www.google.com google.pdf Loading pages (1/5) QFontEngine::loadEngine: GetTextMetrics failed () ] 10% QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngine::loadEngine: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngine::loadEngine: GetTextMetrics failed () ] 36% QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed () // ...etc.... and the PDF is created and saved... just WITHOUT text. All form-fields, images, borders, tables, divs, spans, ps, etc are rendered accurately...just void of any text at all. Server information: Windows edition: Windows Server Standard Service Pack 2 Processor: Intel Xeon E5410 @ 2.33GHz 2.33 GHz Memory: 8.00 GB System type: 64-bit Operating System Can anyone give me a clue as to what is happening and how I can fix this?     Within an event, I'd like to put the focus on a specific TextBox within the ListViewItem's template. The XAML looks like this: <ListView x:Name="myList" ItemsSource="{Binding SomeList}"> <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn> <GridViewColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <!-- Focus this! --> <TextBox x:Name="myBox"/> I've tried the following in the code behind: (myList.FindName("myBox") as TextBox).Focus(); but I seem to have misunderstood the FindName() docs, because it returns null. Also the ListView.Items doesn't help, because that (of course) contains my bound business objects and no ListViewItems. Neither does myList.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem(item), which also returns null.
