• How to create a custom ADO Multi Demensional Catalog with no database

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

  In Delphi you can pass class references around to compare the types of objects, and to instantiate them. Can you do the same with interface references being passed to a COM automation server? For example, you can define a method taking a GUID parameter using the type library editor: function ChildNodesOfType(NodeType: TGUID): IMBNode; safecall; In this function I would like to return automation types that support the interface specified by NodeType, e.g. if Supports(SomeNode, NodeType) then result := SomeNode; But the Supports call always fails, I tried passing in the Guids defined in the type library but none of the different types (Ixxx, Class_xxxx, IId_Ixxxx) seem to work.

• Not able to pass multiple override parameters using nose-testconfig 0.6 plugin in nosetests

  Hi, I am able to override multiple config parameters using nose-testconfig plugin only if i pass the overriding parameters on commandline. e.g. nosetests -c nose.cfg -s --tc=jack.env1:asl --tc=server2.env2:abc But when I define the same thing inside nose.cfg, than only the value for last parameter is modified. e.g. tc = server2.env2:abc tc = jack.env1:asl I checked the plugin code. It looks fine to me. • Bulkloading schema less entities on Google App Engine

  The new bulkloader added into SDK 1.3.4 works great for models that have a schema. For models inheriting db.Expando (or loosely defined schemas) i would like to understand what i would have to do to bulk upload them. I defined a custom connector, that implemented the ConnectorInterface and converted my data to the python dict required. How can i use this dict to define entities that get uploaded to the data store ? In the documentation there seems to be a post_import_function that can be used to return the entities that get uploaded. Is there an example on how this function is used ?

• Zend Framework command line see errors

  I'm using a method outline by gregor (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/143320/create-cronjob-with-zend-framework) to create command line execution for parts of my application such as cron jobs, admin tasks, and the like. It works, however, no errors get reported when I create a new object that has not been defined (misspelling) and other such mistakes. I would have thought that php would report an error, but it fails silently. What is the reason for this? Is there a better way to achieve my goal? Or how can I implement this so that I can see errors? Many thanks! • Is C# 4.0 Tuple covariant

  (I would check this out for myself, but I don't have VS2010 (yet)) Say I have 2 base interfaces: IBaseModelInterface IBaseViewInterface And 2 interfaces realizing those: ISubModelInterface : IBaseModelInterface ISubViewInterface : IBaseViewInterface If I define a Tuple<IBaseModelInterface, IBaseViewInterface> I would like to set that based on the result of a factory that returns Tuple<ISubModelInterface, ISubViewInterface>. In C# 3 I can't do this even though the sub interfaces realize the base interfaces. And I'm pretty sure C# 4 lets me do this if I was using IEnumerable<IBaseModelInterface> because it's now defined with the in keyword to allow covariance. So does Tuple allow me to do this? From what (little) I understand, covariance is only allowed on interfaces, so does that mean there needs to be an ITuple<T1, T2> interface? Does this exist?

  Hi Im facing a probem with the car and cdr functions for example: first I defined a list caled it x (define x (a (bc) d ( (ef) g ) )) so x now is equal to (a (bc) d ( (ef) g ) now for example I need to get the g from this list using only car and cdr (!! noshortcuts as caddr cddr !!) the correct answer is: (car(cdr(car(cdr(cdr(cdr x)))))) BUT how ? :-( I work according to the rule (the car gives the head of list and cdr gives the tail) and instead of getting the answer above I keep reaching wronge answers can any one help me in understanding this ... give me step or a way to solve it step by step thanx in advance Im really sick of scheme language.

• STL Static-Const Member Definitions

  How does the following work? #include <limits> int main() { const int* const foo = &std::numeric_limits<int> ::digits; } I was under the impression that in order to take an address of a static const-ant member we had to physically define it in some translation unit in order to please the linker. That said, after looking at the preprocessed code for this TU, I couldn't find an external definition for the digits member (or any other relevant members). I tested this on two compilers (VC++ 10 and g++ 4.2.4) and got identical results (i.e., it works). Does the linker auto-magically link against an object file where this stuff is defined, or am I missing something obvious here?

• Is it valid for Hibernate list() to return duplicates?

  Is anyone aware of the validity of Hibernate's Criteria.list() and Query.list() methods returning multiple occurrences of the same entity? Occasionally I find when using the Criteria API, that changing the default fetch strategy in my class mapping definition (from "select" to "join") can sometimes affect how many references to the same entity can appear in the resulting output of list(), and I'm unsure whether to treat this as a bug or not. The javadoc does not define it, it simply says "The list of matched query results." (thanks guys). If this is expected and normal behaviour, then I can de-dup the list myself, that's not a problem, but if it's a bug, then I would prefer to avoid it, rather than de-dup the results and try to ignore it. Anyone got any experience of this?

  When I define a list and try to change a single item like this: list_of_lists = [['a', 'a', 'a'], ['a', 'a', 'a'], ['a', 'a', 'a']] list_of_lists[1][1] = 'b' for row in list_of_lists: print row It works as intended. But when I try to use list comprehension to create the list: row = ['a' for range in xrange(3)] list_of_lists = [row for range in xrange(3)] list_of_lists[1][1] = 'b' for row in list_of_lists: print row It results in an entire column of items in the list being changed. Why is this? How can I achieve the desired effect with list comprehension?

  Twitter client (formerly Tweetie) allows you to define a bookmarklet in Safari that launches the app. I want to know which iPhone API allows you to register the protocol specifier (or whatever it's called) - in this case "tweetie:" - in order for this bookmarklet to work. This is obviously supported on the OS/Browser level, much the same as tel: URIs.   I'm trying to refactor a class and set of subclasses where the M type does extend anything, even though we know it has to be a subclass of a certain type. That type is parametrized and I would like its parametrized types to be available to subclasses that already have values for M. Is there any way to define this class without having to include the redundant K and V generic types in the parameter list. I'd like to be able to have the compiler infer them from whatever M is mapped to by subclasses. public abstract class NewParametrized<K, V, M extends SomeParametrized<K, V>> { public void someMethodThatTakesKAndV(K k1, V v1) { } } In other words, I'd like the class declaration to look something like: public class NewParametrized<M extends SomeParametrized<K, V>> { And K and V's types would be inferred from the definition of M.

It also create ISimpleDOMNode_i.c and ISimpleDOMDocument_i.c but there is no tlb file what is the wrong ?

  To customize the visual look of a UISlider you can set the thumb and track images. Part of the track images gets stretched to the appropriate with. From the documentation: A stretchable region sits between two end cap regions. The end caps define the portions of the image that remain as is and are not stretched. The stretchable region is a 1-point wide area between the end caps that can be replicated to make the image appear longer. Now the problem I have is that my stretchable region needs to be more than 1-point wide. (It's a pattern) Unfortunately the 1-point width seems to be hard coded in the SDK. Anyone having an idea how to work around this? Or will I have to write my own slider from scratch for this?

  Does anyone know if its possible to send out custom http REQUEST headers in HTML without having to use javascript (no xhr wrapper). Would it be possible to define them as meta tags within the head? Or may they be defined in the form somewhere? <meta http-equip="x-something-custom" name="custom value" /> this works, however, this is a RESPONSE header. What I need to set a REQUEST header. I'm not looking for setting hidden fields in forms, but actual raw http header manipulation with html tags. Is this possible?

  Coming from Perl, I sure am missing the "here-document" means of creating a multi-line string in source code: $string = <<"EOF" # create a three line string text text text EOF In Java I have to have cumbersome quotes and plus signs on every line as I concatenate my multiline string from scratch. What are some better alternatives? Define my string in a properties file? Edit: Two answers say StringBuilder.append() is preferable to the plus notation. Could anyone elaborate as to why they think so? It doesn't look more preferable to me at all. I'm looking for away around the fact that multiline strings are not a first-class language construct, which means I definitely don't want to replace a first-class language construct (string concatenation with plus) with method calls. Edit: To clarify my question further, I'm not concerned about performance at all. I'm concerned about maintainability and design issues.

  I'm designing an hierarchical distributed system (every node has zero or more "master" nodes to which it propagates its current data). The data gets continuously updated and I'd like to guarantee that at least N nodes have almost-current data at any given time. I do not need complete consistency, only eventual consistency (t.i. for any time instant, the current snapshot of data should eventually appear on at least N nodes. It is tricky to define the term "current" here, but still). Nodes may fail and go back up at any moment, and there is no single "central" node. O overflowers!
