• Ruby: Add a method to the class of an input parameter

  I'm just exploring ruby and was wondering about the theoretical possibility of adding a method to the class of an object. For example, define a method that takes in a parameter and would add a method to the class of that parameter (not just to the parameter object itself). Something like this example: class SomeClass end class AnotherClass end alpha = SomeClass.new beta = AnotherClass.new def AddHelloMethodTo param # This is where I'm trying to # add a method to the class of the parameter def param.class.Hello "Hello" end end AddHelloMethodTo alpha AddHelloMethodTo beta gamma = AnotherClass.new alpha.Hello beta.Hello gamma.Hello (Excuse me if I have syntax errors / typos I'm REALLY new to this!) Notice how I don't call the AddHelloMethodTo on gamma but I expect Hello to be defined because I added it to the class. Is this possible?

• Integrating JSF with Spring

  I haven't implemented any code, I'm still working the overall architecture for a new application and this going to be the first time I use JSF+Spring. I need to put web services in front of the Spring service beans (business logic tier) since these beans could be accessed by other applications besides the presentation tier. While defining the different layers or tiers for the application, I feel unsure about how to integrate JSF (the presentation tier) with Spring (the business tier in this application). I'm considering to define some sort of common tier or service tier in order to provide the glue code for JSF and Spring, but before that I want to hear from others what have they done or if they have used other frameworks to help with the glue code for this scenario (I already checked Spring MVC/Spring Faces, but I'm not sure if that's what I need since I'm thinking of this application more like JSF-centric than Spring-centric, but maybe you could help me about considering another approach).   I am still fairly new to C# and I am trying to decide the best way to structure a new program. Here is what I want to do and I would like feed back on my idea. Presentation Layer Business Layer (Separate Class Library) Data Layer (Separate Class Library) Model Layer (Separate Class Library) What I am struggling with is if it is ok to have the classes in the Data Layer and Business Layer inherit from the types I define in Model Layer. This way I can extended the types as needed in my Business Layer with any new properties I see fit. I might not use every property from the Model type in my Business Layer class but is that really a big deal? If this isn't clear enough I can try and put together an example.

• How to Install two library CGNS for Fortran under WIndows XP

  Hello, I have to install two libraries CGNS to use it in Fortan, but I don't understand how, the basic instructions are: To compile under MS Windows: configure.bat [options] then gmake if using GNU make, or nmake if using nmake. NOTE: This assumes that the cl compiler is in your path, and that the INCLUDE and LIB environment variables are set to include the directories containing the MSC include files and libraries. If not, you will need to use full path names to cl and link, and define INCLUDE and LIB in make.win32. You may also execute VCVARS32.BAT in the BIN directory of your VC installation to set these up prior to running nmake. so what i did was to: tape configure.bat it creates the rights files I set the news paths and lib, include for the cl.exe and link.exe but now the warning and error messages are about the clui.dll. cl -nologo -I. -Iadf -FoWIN32\cgns_error.obj -c cgns_error.c Cannot load language resource clui.dll what can i do now? I'm a beginner user in this field. Thankx Manal

• How to determine if code is running in Foundation or GUI?

  I'm writing a Mac app with two targets - a regular Cocoa GUI and a Foundation command-line tool. They do very similar things other than the GUI, so I'm sharing most of the code between the two. I'd like to do a few things slightly differently depending on which target is running. I can think of many ways to do this (#define something in the pch, check for existence of GUI definitions...). I'm curious if there's a standard or recommended way to do this. Thanks!

• Defining Makefiles variables from a script

  I am creating a Makefile which I want it to be a single file for different architectures, OSes, libraries, etc. To do this I have a build specific XML file which defines the different configuration options for each architecture. The config file is read by Perl (it could be any language) and the Perl output returns something like: var1 := var1_value var2 := var2_value var3 := var3_value What I am trying to do is define this variables in my Makefile. From the makefile I am calling my readconfig script and it is giving the correct output, but I have not been able to get this variables as part of my Makefile. I have tried the use of eval and value, but none of them have work (although it could be an issue of me not knowing how to use them. In overall what I am trying to do is something like: read_config: $(eval (perl '-require "readConfig.pl"')) @echo $(var1) It could be assumed I am using only GNU Make behavior. Things I could not change: Config file is on XML Using Perl as a XML parser

  This may be a long shot question.. I am working on an application that is based on JSP/Javascript only (without a Web framework!) Is there a way to have depencency injection for JSP beans? By jsp beans I mean beans defined like this <jsp:useBean id="cart" scope="session" class="session.Carts" /> Is there a way/library/hack to intercept the bean creation so that when "cart" is referenced for the first time, some some of injection takes place? Can I define somewhere a "listener" for JSP beans (like you can do for JSF beans for example)? I am free to do anything I want in the back-end, but I cannot add a web framework in the front-end (Don't ask!)

  Hello! I am trying to wrap an environment created with \NewEnviron (package 'environ') into an old good \newenvironment: \NewEnviron{test}{\colorbox[gray]{0.7}{\BODY}} \newenvironment{wrapper}{\begin{test}}{\end{test}} \begin{wrapper} debug me \end{wrapper} However, this gives me a strange error: LaTeX Error: \begin{test} on input line 15 ended by \end{wrapper}. LaTeX Error: \begin{wrapper} on input line 15 ended by \end{document}. If I replace \NewEnviron{test}{aaa(\BODY)bbb} with \newenvironment{test}{aaa(}{)bbb} — everything works as expected! It seems like \NewEnviron fails to find its end for some reason. I'm trying to do some magic with 'floatfig' wrapped into a \colorbox so I need a way to convert \colorbox to an environment and wrap it into another one. I can define a new command but it's not a very good idea. Thanks in advance!

  First off, I've seen this question and understand why the following code doesn't work. That is not my question. I have a constant, which is declared like; //Constants.h extern NSString * const MyConstant; //Constants.m NSString * const MyConstant = @"MyConstant"; However, in certain contexts, it's more useful to have this constant have a much more descriptive name, like MyReallySpecificConstant. I was hoping to do: //SpecificConstants.h extern NSString * const MyReallySpecificConstant; //SpecificConstants.m #import "Constants.h" NSString * const MyReallySpecificConstant = MyConstant; Obviously I cannot do this (which is explained in the linked question above). My question is: How else (besides something like #define MyReallySpecificConstant MyConstant) can I provide a single constant under multiple names?

  Something I see ppl define the variable like this: b2World *_world; b2Body *_body; CCSprite *_ball; instead of b2World *world; b2Body *body; CCSprite *ball; I familiar with the second one, but not the first one. So, I checked the Wikipedia about naming convention: Names beginning with double underscore or an underscore and a capital letter are reserved for implementation (compiler, standard library) and should not be used (e.g. __reserved or _Reserved). • Modifying NSDate to represent 1 month from today

  I'm adding repeating events to a Cocoa app I'm working on. I have repeat every day and week fine because I can define these mathematically (3600*24*7 = 1 week). I use the following code to modify the date: [NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSinceNow:(3600*24*7*(weeks))] I know how many months have passed since the event was repeated but I can't figure out how to make an NSDate object that represents 1 month/3 months/6 months/9 months into the future. Ideally I want the user to say repeat monthly starting Oct. 14 and it will repeat the 14th of every month.

  Hello, I have a Java array defined already e.g. float[] values = new float[3]; I would like to do something like this further on in the code: values = {0.1f, 0.2f, 0.3f}; But that gives me a compile error. Is there a nicer way to define multiple values at once, rather than doing this?: values[0] = 0.1f; values[1] = 0.2f; values[2] = 0.3f; Thanks!

  Hi! I'd like to replace each value in a hash with value.some_method. For example in a simple hash {"a" = "b", "c" = "d"} every value should be .upcase-d so it looks like {"a" = "B", "c" = "D"}. I tried #collect and #map but always just get arrays back. Is there an 'elegant' way to do this? I would to define another layout (not using the horrid table) but continue to use all the event handling and the creation of the user of the CreateUserWizard control. • Bitmap files added in .rc not listed in resource.h

  I added a large number of bitmap files to my MFC project in resource view (Visual Studio). However, the resource.h file does not list any of these files. I would want them to be listed with exactly the same name as they are added in .rc bitmap list (say the name is xxx) I want it listed as #define IDB_xxx If I try to click on the bitmap in the .rc list and import it, it gets listed as IDB_BITMAP1. Owing to the large number of files it is not feasible for me to manually rename them for use in my code.

• Findbugs warning: Equals method should not assume anything about the type of its argument

  When running FindBugs on my project, I got a few instances of the error described above. Namely, my overriding versions of equals cast the RHS object into the same type as the object in which the overriding version is defined. However, I'm not sure whether a better design is possible, since AFAIK Java does not allow variance in method parameters, so it is not possible to define any other type for the equals parameter. Am I doing something very wrong, or is FindBugs too eager? A different way to phrase this question is: what is the correct behavior if the object passed to equals is not the same type as an LHS: Is this a false, or should there be an exception?   For my application, i need to divide diagonally the screen of my iphone in 4 parts and detect which of the part was touched. I am very confused because my areas are triangles and not squares and I can't find a solution to detect which of the triangle was touched... I get the touched Point with method touchesBegan, and there I'm stuck... :( How to define triangle shapes and test if it was touched? with View? layer?
