  Hi, Some companies demand your email address, then send you spam. I'm quite familiar with cPanel. How would I set up an anonymous email forwarder, so I can give them a valid email address, and kill that email address if the company turns into an evil spammer? Note that to be effective, it would have to filter out any email addresses listed in the body of the forwarded email (otherwise those email addresses will end up on their spam list too).

  I registered a domain with Namecheap.com, and started the Google Apps registration process. After the initial data filling, google apps wishes me to prove the ownership of a domain, and has given me 4 choices: Add a DNS record to your domain's configuration Link to your Google Analytics account Upload an HTML file to your server Add a meta tag to your site's home page What is the differences between these, and how do I (if someone knows perhaps how to do it on Namecheap, it would be even better) complete this step in the process?   Are there any filters that would make background image to be displayed as black-and-white? What I mean, is this: i have a background image set via css using background: url(/image.png); But now I need to apply a filter so that an image is shown as black-white only. Ideally, I would like to also apply opacity to it. The effect I really trying to achieve is to have background image black/white and on hover over that span element the filter would be removed, revealing the color version. And of cause it has to work in FF, Chrome, IE Can someone help me?

I have made a web-development framework which I want to make available to download, and I want to target a large audience. It is an open source project so I make no money off of it, so I do not really want to pay for advertisement. I already pay for the server where the website runs, and I have spent a lot of time developing it. I opened account on various search engines webmaster tools, so people can find it on there. I have also made a video-sharing account where I uploaded a few tutorials. This can accumulate some traffic also. Can someone recommend any more places to get your work spread.

• How to diagnose a search engine ranking drop?

  EDIT: Reworded & Cleaned Up to Ease Understanding There has been a significant drop (90%) in traffic from Google to one of my well-established sites (6+ years) in the last week. Searches show that the top 3 wide keywords all dropped 4 spots. Searches for other keywords do not show ANY results in the first 10 to 25 pages of results, while previously one 1st or 2nd page at most. Since there are 200 factors for ranking, the question really is: What steps are necesary to figure out what caused such a drop? There has been no major changes during this period or the last month on the site and certainly not in the homepage which has dropped rank. Over all the years of running this site and plenty of others, I have never experienced this. There are no duplicate content on my site and I have rigorously used canonical links for the last few years to ensure it is not misinterpreted as such.

• Do Google's feed statistics include former users?

  I'm currently not using any sort of fancy stat tracking software such as feedburner, but I occasionally look at Google's stats in their Webmaster Tools just to get a rough idea of whether the number of subscribers is going up or down. This only gives the number of users subscribed through Google products, as they explain in their help documents: Subscriber stats display the number of Google users who have subscribed to your feeds using any Google product (such as Reader, iGoogle, or Orkut). Because users can subscribe to feeds using many different aggregators or RSS readers, the actual number of subscribers to your site may be higher. I used to use Google Reader very regularly but haven't opened it in a while now. The way I understand it, this will mean that even though I haven't touched any of those feeds in a long time I'm still technically subscribed to them and will therefore be included in Google's statistic. Is this correct? Also since Google runs Feedburner, does this have any effect on their stats as well?

  It was brought to my attention that if you search for the name of one of our directors (with the intent to find there profile page on our site) They come up as the first link in most search engines as you would expect but the link text is just pure spam. the three search string I have tested on Google, Bing, Ask, and Yahoo have all returned similar results.   I would like to move my website from host A to host B I have uploaded a copy of my site to the new host, while keeping the old copy in place with the old host I will need to update the nameservers to point to the new nameservers. I'll want to change the DNS settings of domain name to point to new host b To avoid down time for the DNS change to propagate through the net, can I add the old nameservers and new nameservers together without causing problems, or must I delete the old nameservers first? What happens to my website when it points to two different nameservers?

  Is there any tool or method that will load a localhost page a number of times, and return the averaged data for load times, onload events, Dom ready events, etc? I'd like to work on page speed optimization, but need a baseline before I begin. I have used both Google analytics and Webmaster tools, but I'd like an automated solutions that runs locally. My ideal solution would be a program or script that would take the path/file, number of iterations, and then take several minutes to load the page n times without cache and crunch numbers to create a baseline.

I have a scanned jpg file with below properties and size 8.5MB pixel dimension: 2468 × 3484 pixels print size: 208.96 × 294.98 millimeters resolution: 300 × 300 ppi I need to save the file as png while the size cannot be bigger than 4MB. The most important is that the size of picture must remain the same. I mean that the object size in the picture must stay the same. Could anybody tell me what is used to define the size of the objects in the picture?

• Does a "nofollow" attribute on a link prevent URL discovery by search engines?

  I know that nofollow prevents link juice from being passed across a link. But if search engine robots discover a link with a nofollow on it, will they add that link to their crawl queue? In other words, if I create a link to a brand new page and put a rel=nofollow attribute on that link, will it prevent search engine bots (particularly Googlebot) from crawling the page. (Assuming that this link remains the only link into that page.) I've read conflicting reports about this over the years and I'm looking for authoritative references about the current state of affairs. Official statements from Google or published results of independent testing would be ideal.

  I know that by changing the meta description of my webpage, I can control the texts shown by Google in the search results. However I do not know how I can control the text shown just before the search results, for example the date when the page was last updated. Which meta tag to use to accomplish this? UPDATE: My webpage is automatically updated on a weekly basis on irregular intervals by a cronjob which makes changes to the MySQL database which holds the content of my webpages. So the question is what (meta) info to add to my page.

  Is there a firefox addon to save a webpage as a pdf file? I want to free service if available. In chrome save as pdf works after pressing Ctrl + P but this services is not available in firefox. You may ask why not use chrome. I am using yslow to generate reports and yslow does not show the printable view option were as firefox show it. But firefox does not have print/save as pdf but chrome does save as pdf.

In order to prevent users from inputting incorrect data, we don't want users to provide free-text information but instead choose from predefined values as much as possible. We believe there are 2 ways of providing those values: use an API to an external service provider or create your own local database. I have the text Mia Natura in the domain, <title>, <h1>, I have the site in Google Webmaster Tools, the site is crawled (finding 172 results for site:mianatura.net). I have checked my standing manually (going through the SERPs), using What Page of Search Am I on and diyseo. The site is not involved in any dubious link building campaigns (as far as I know).   I've got a site that's showing a 9% CTR for a phrase in Google Webmaster Tools, but the average position for my site is 14th (this includes 7 local results for this phrase). I was a little confused as to what the CTR actually meant, is it : for each person who searches for that phrase 9% of them click my site. or for each person who actually sees my site in the search results 9% of them click through (bearing in mind 14th is high on page 2 when the local listings are used).
