• Postfix removing domain from user names before passing to Dovecot for IMAP authentication

  In IMAP authentication with Dovecot, Postfix is stripping the domain name from virtual users who share a name with a local user, causing them to fail authentication. Virtual users without local accounts don't have this problem. How can I prevent this? Failing an answer, how can I debug Postfix to see what's going on? I've turned on every debugging option I can get, and I'm not seeing anything helpful in the logs.

• Citrix XenDesktop create an image to work across multiple hardware devices

However this only works for virtual and the model that I made the image on how can i extend compatibility to another device? I am just using it for a vdisk that I can then also use as a virtual device but I wasnt the vdisk to be available over multiple devices. Using Win 7 on the client. Thanks

• Assigning public IP to Vmware guest

• nmap says 0 hosts up even though I can ping

  I'm running Metasploit from Win 7 x64, and I've set up my Metasploitable 2 virtual machine on VMware Player. I can ping Metasploitable's IP address from the Metasploit console, however if I use nmap it says: Note: Host seems down. If it is really up, but blocking our ping probles, try -Pn I try it with the -Pn switch, it says Nmap done: 1 IP address (0 hosts up) scanned in 0.64 seconds I've disabled my Windows firewall and I'm running Metasploit as admin. Why can't I nmap my virtual machine?

• Removing phantom applications from Application Pools in IIS7

  I have an application in one of my application pools that has a virtual path of '/Site/login.aspx'. I want to remove it but it no longer exists on my computer and it's causing me issues setting up AppFabric. I understand that you can remove these phantom applications by recreating the application in IIS and then hitting Remove. That will get rid of the application from the pool but in this case I can't recreate the application due to the /login.aspx in the virtual path Any ideas how I remove this erroneous entry? Thanks

• Routing table with two NIC adapters in libvirt/KVM

  I created a virtual NAT network (192.168.100.0/24 network) in my libvirt and new guest with two interfaces - one in this network, one as bridged (10.34.1.0/24 network) to the local LAN. The reason for that is I need to have my own virtual network for my DHCP/TFTP/DNS testing and still want to access my guest externally from my LAN. On both networks I have working DHCP, both giving them IP addresses. When I setup NAT port forwarding (e.g. for ssh), I can connect to the eth0 (virtual network), everything is fine. But when I try to access the eth1 via bridged interface, I have no response. I guess I have problem with my routing table - outgoing packets are routed to the virtual NAT network (which has access to the machine I am connecting from - I can ping it). But I am not sure if this setup is correct. A common and practical way to easy release those locks and unlock the site (while the dev team refactor its application to avoid the locks), is to simply restart the apache server. Instead, I want to create another virtual disk, and add it in a new LVM volume, which would include the existing disk, and this new one, in a seamless single mount point. We are using VMware vServer 4, under Lab Manager and Virtual Centre. Does SuSE support LVM in version 10 ? Thanks :-)

  I am trying to install the drivers for my HTC Magic (2.1) and my iPod Touch "3G" 8GB (4.1), but when I plug them in, neither of them successfully install their drivers. They work perfectly fine when running on Windows natively, why are they behaving like this on Virtual Box? I am using Windows 7 (AMD64) - Natively & Non Natively. • How can the Private Bytes of a process be significantly less than its effect on the system commit charge?

  On a 64-bit Windows Server 2003, I can see using taskmgr or process explorer that the total commit charge is around 3.5GB, yet when I sum the Private Bytes consumed by each process (by running pslist -m and adding all values under the Priv column) the total comes in at 1.6GB. I know which process seems to be causing this (sqlservr.exe) as when I kill the process, the commit charge drops dramatically. However the process in question is consuming only ~220MB of Private Bytes yet killing the process drops the commit charge by ~1.6GB. How is this possible? How can the commit charge be so significantly greater than Private Bytes, which should represent the amount of committed memory? If some other factor contributes to the commit charge, what is that factor and how can I view its impact in process explorer? Note: I claim that I understand the difference between reserved and committed memory already: my investigations above relate specifically to Private Bytes which includes only committed memory and excludes reserved memory. the Virtual Size of the process in this case is over 4GB, but this should be irrelevant - Virtual Size in procexp represents reserved, not committed memory, and should not contribute to the commit charge. I'm particularly interested in generalised answers to this question: I'm assuming that if sqlservr.exe can behave in this way, that any process potentially could. Further Investigations I notice that pointing Sysinternals VMMap at this process reports a committed "Private Data" of 1.6GB despite Procexp's reported a Private Bytes of 220MB. This is particularly strange given that the documentation for this field in the "Windows® Sysinternals Administrator's Reference" states that: Private Data memory is memory that is allocated by VirtualAlloc and that is not further handled by the Heap Manager or the .NET runtime, or assigned to the Stack category... VMMap’s definition of “Private Data” is more granular than that of Process Explorer’s “private bytes.” Procexp’s “private bytes” includes all private committed memory belonging to the process. i.e. that VMMap's committed "Private Data" should be smaller than procexp's "Private Bytes". Also, after reading the 'Process committed memory' section of Mark Russinovich's excellent Pushing the Limits of Windows: Virtual Memory, he highlights two cases which won't show up in Private Bytes: File mapping views with copy-on-write semantics (however, according to VMMap there is no significant space allocated to Mapped Files). pagefile-backed virtual memory (however, I tried testlimit with the -l flag as suggested, and no significant memory is consumed by pagefile-backed sections)

• Computer suddenly dies; screen displays weird flickering lines, then restarts

  I've been having this terrible problem for a little while and just managed to get a picture of 'dead screen' for the first time and I am posting it to seek help. Randomly, at irregular intervals (typically once a week), while working on something (it's been different things every time) my computer will just suddenly go dead - the screen turns to exactly the picture below (the lines flicker a little bit), it hangs there for a few seconds and then restarts. Obviously this is extremely frustrating and I want to try to stop it. I've searched numerous postings with similar keywords but nothing exactly the same as mine. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? I would post all my system settings and installed programs but the list is long and I don't know how much relevance each item would be. If you'd like to know something specific, please comment and I'll let you know whatever you need. • <VirtualHost fqdn.mydomain.com:80> not recommended?

  In Apache2 documentation thay say that in <VirtualHost *:80>, the * can be replaced by IP or FQDN, but the FQDN is not recommended. Addr can be: The IP address of the virtual host; A fully qualified domain name for the IP address of the virtual host (not recommended); But why is it not recommended? If I have www.mydomain.com and webmail.mydomain.com pointing to the same IP address, why shouldn't I use the names here?

• Postfix sends every mail twice

  Could someone please tell me, why Postfix sends each message twice? I noticed that one message is correctly send and the other may (or may not) have a problem with the encoding. To be honest i did some adjustments for virtual domains, users,.... but i cannot find why these configurations should not work. • How to deliver mail locally and to remote mta?

  I am running a postfix server and now I would like to know if I can configure postfix to deliver mail to a virtual domain locally and also forward it to a second remote mta. The problem is that both mta handle the same virtual domains so virtual_alias_maps, bcc or anything other address/domain related will not work. If this setup is not possible with postfix, is there another mta (maybe exim?) that is capable of doing this?

• Load balancers, multiple data centers and url based routing

  There is one data center - dc1. There is a business need to setup another data center - dc2 in another geography and there might be more in the future say dc3. Within the data center dc1: There are two web servers say WS1 and WS2. These two webservers do not share anything currently. There isnt any necessity foreseen to have more webservers within each dc. dc1 also has a local load balancer which has been setup with session stickiness. So if a user say u1 lands on dc1 and if the load balancer decides to route his first request to WS1 then from there on all u1's requests will get routed to WS1. Local load balancer and webservers are invisible to the user. Local load balancer listens to the traffic on a virtual ip which is assigned to the virtual cluster of webservers ws1 and ws2. Virtual ip is the ip to which the host name is resolved to in the DNS. There are no client specific subdomains as of now instead there is a client specific url(context). ex: www.example.com/client1 and www.example.com/client2. Given above when dc2 is onboarded I want to route the traffic between dc1 and dc2 based on the client. The options that I have found so far are. Have client specific subdomains e.g. client1.example.com and client2.example.com and assign each of them with the virtual ip of the data center to which I want to route them. or Assign www.example.com and www1.example.com to first dc i.e. dc1 and assign www2.example.com to dc2. All requests will first get routed to dc1 where WS1 and WS2 will redirect the user to www1.example.com or www2.example.com based on whether the url ends with /client1 or /client2. I need help in the following If I setup a global load balancer between dc1 and dc2 do I have any alternative solutions. That is, can a global load balancer route the traffic based on the url ? Are there drawbacks to subdomain based solutions compared to www1 solution? With www1 solution I am worried that it creates a dependency on dc1 atleast for the first request and the user will see that he is getting redirected to a different url.

• SQL Server - VMWare install - Utilize more RAM

  We have a SQL server machine - It’s a VMWare image (running on ESXi hardware etc..) It has windows 2008 x64 standard The SQL install is SQL 2008 standard The virtual machine has 12gb of RAM, and 4 virtual CPU The box is suffering from near 100% CPU a lot of the time I enabled the AWE- but SQL server only seems to use 3-4gb of RAM Is there a way of making it use more available ram more effectively? cache results for example..?
