• ASP.NET Asynchronous Tasks - Worker Thread Not Releasing?

  I am having an issue with testing asynchronous tasks in ASP.NET & IIS7. From what I have read, the worker thread should be released back into the thread pool while the I/O thread performs the async work, allowing ASP.NET to server other incoming requests. But when I simulate heavy load on the web application by making 20 simultaneous requests to a page (async.aspx) that performs long running async tasks, I am unable to browse to some other normal aspx page until the requests are just about done. Am I misunderstanding or missing something here? I am running Vista Biz x64, VS2008 + IIS7. I have the Async attribute applied to the Page directive.

• Operating system for visualization app in 6 monitors

  Hi. I have to plan the development for an application with these major requirements: Show different graphical data and animations in 6 monitors, in fullscreen mode. The hardware to be used is a PC with 3 NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 cards. I have some expertise working with OpenGL, but never with more than one monitor. I have the (some limited) freedom to choose an operating system for the application. My options are: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu 8.04/10.04. I would like to know, if you have some expertise or knowledge in the multi-monitor application development field, what is the recommended operating system for this kind of application? And, do I need any software other than the operating system and the NVIDIA drivers to be able to use the 6 monitors in fullscreen, showing different things in each one of them?   I am new to OpenCV, and trying to capture an image, and then save it to a file. I am posting the code for your reference, below. • Fluent NHib causing visual studio 2010 hanging at runtime

  Just installed and migrated a 2008 solution on Vista ultimate 64 and .net 4.0. Everything builds and tests run surprisingly well but I got the hang description below while trying to run the app under SQLite. It turns out that the hang has got something to do when the call is made for FNH to build the session factory during a run, the only feedback I get is that the database wasn't configure properly without any inner exception. The strange part is that the exact code works perfectly under tests. Any clues? Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.   Hello, I'm trying to run my first ASM 8086 program on MASM on Windows Vista 64bit OS. • Out of Memory on Update or Delete of Service Reference

  I have a Service Reference for a WCF project that has just over a hundred endpoints in my ServiceHost web.config. Every time I attempt to update or delete the Service Reference, it fails with an out of memory exception. I am running Vista Ultimate SP2 64-bit with 8GB RAM. I can work around it by going outside the project and deleting the Service References folder, then coming back in and re-adding the Reference. Is this the only workaround that you know of? Thanks!

• Security exception with ASP.NET AJAX toolkit

  I've got an ASP.NET WebForms app that I've written, which uses the ASP.NET AJAX Toolkit. I've put the MultiView control onto the web form, and it worked fine, when I had it under Vista. Well, I had to replace my machine (HD failed) and I went to Windows 7 Ultimate. I tried copying the ASP.NET app from the system (before it finally failed for good) and put it onto the Windows 7 machine. I can bring up the app fine, go to all pages, but the one with these controls on it. When I do I get the following error: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. What's going on? How do I fix it?

• SDK for writing DVD's

  I need to add DVD writing functionality to an application I'm working on. However it needs to be able to write out files that are being grabbed "live" from a camera, over a long period of time. I can't wait until all the files are captured before I start writing them to the DVD, I need to write them out in chunks as I go along. I've looked at IMAPI v2, but the main problems seems to be that you need to point it to all the files you plan to write out to disk before you start the burning process. I know it has to concept of "sessions", which means you can write to the DVD in several parts, before you finally "close" it. But I was wondering if there were any other DVD writing SDK's that allow you to be constantly writing files to a DVD and in particular files that are only in memory. It would be more efficient if I didn't have to write the captured images out to hard before they are burned to DVD. The solution needs to work under .NET on Windows XP and vista

• C# setup project output automatically start with administrative rights

  Hi, i've created an setup project for a .net-application which works fine. The problem is, that the application begins to write log-files after startup and this requires administrative rights on windows vista and windows 7. I know there are some folders which i could use to write into without administrative rights. When i start the application as administrator, everything works fine. I asked myself, if it's possible to change the setup project in visual studio in a way that the installed application automatically owns administrative rights on the target system? • C, Cygwin, and compiling drand and srand

  Hello, I have a C code which I am trying to compile in Cygwin and which contains both the drand() and srand() functions. I had Windows Vista with Cygwin installed and the code seemed to comile fine, but my computer broke and I had to get a new one. The new computer has Windows 7 64-bit version. I had a few issues downloading Cygwin but finally managed to do it by only selecting a few packages and then have been trying to get the rest that I need. The problem is I don't have the help I had installing it on my other computer so I don't know which packages I actually need, so I have just been guessing (all the gcc ones) but I mustn't have the one I need for srand and drand to work. If anyone could point me in the right direction, and also possibly just let me know which packages I need to compile C so I can check I have them all that would be great. • Newbie queston: Cannot load http://localhost/phptest:8080/

  Hi guys, I decided to learn HTML so I installed apache on windows vista. Everything seems to work fine; when I go to http://localhost:8080 the sample webpage installed by apache shows. Apache is configured at port 8080. So far so good. Since my DocumentRoot is c:\pub, I made another folder inside, e.g., c:\pub\test. What I'm trying to figure out is why the page at http://localhost/test:8080 cannot load? It has index.html and apache is working fine. Any ideas?

• latest Xemacs on Windows binary download

  I'm trying to get an updated version for Windows vista. I previously got 21.4.22 but it's been a year since that release. The linux versions should be 22.x. I'm wondering if anyone else builds stable binaries for Windows ? 21.4.22 has several bugs and I cannot figure out how to fix them. I know Xemacs is not as active as GNU emacs but still aren't there any Xemacs users on windows who build their own copies even if the official site doesn't ? I would like to be able to compare buffers, files and directories apart from being able to edit any file : java, javascript, ruby, .bat, .sh, .xml, etc.

• Issues while downloading document from Sharepoint using JAVA

  I am trying to download a file from Sharepoint 2007 sp2 document library using GetItem method of the Copy webservice. I am facing the following issues : In the local instance ( Windows Vista ) I can save only 10.5 Kb of any file. The webservice is returning only 10.5 Kb of data for any file. On the production server, I am able to List the documents using some credentials but when I am trying to download a document using the same credentials I get a 401 : Unauthorized message. I can download the document using the Sharepoint website successfully.

• Why isn't WH_MOUSE hook global anymore?

  I have this global mouse hook setup in a DLL that watches for mouse gestures. Everything works perfectly but with a hook set for WH_MOUSE_LL which is a low-level hook and one that doesn't need to be in an external injectable DLL. Once I switch - to the more suitable one would say - WH_MOUSE mouse hook, everything falls apart. Once I click outside my main application (the one that installs the hook), the hook gets corrupted - ::UnhookWindowsHookEx will fail. I only found this guy saying at experts exchange: "No way, at least under Windows XP + SVP2 WH_MOUSE won't go global, you must use WH_MOUSE_LL instead." I setup the hooks correctly: in a DLL using a shared data section, posting and not sending messages from the hook proceduce. Why has this changed? And why is not documented? Anyone encountered this? Thanks! BTW: I've reverse engineered a bit the popular StrokeIt application and it uses a combination of WH_GETMESSAGE and WH_MOUSE hooks and still works on XP/Vista...

• Transparent checkbox with theme-support?

  I'm looking for a simple, transparent checkbox component that properly supports XP/Vista/7 theming. It should also work with Delphi 7. I've found a component on Torry's that's not working properly, and I know that Raize components has a transparent checkbox - but I'm obviously not going to pay $300 for the entire package just to get this single component. I've also found many other solutions, but none of them support theming. The main problem is that TCustomCheckBox is a TWinControl descendant, and in order to implement transparency, you need to make a new TGraphic descendant control from ground up. Any ideas?

• Macros no longer working in VS2005

  I'm using VS2005 on Vista. I'm using some macros, but now they have suddenly stopped working. No error messages of any kind. I am not aware of having done anything that could trigger this. I have made sure that "Allow macros to run" is checked in Tools-Options-Addin/Macro Security. I have tried running the macros from a keyboard shortcut, from the Macro Explorer, and from the Macros IDE, all in vain: The little spinning icon displays shortly (<1 sec) and then disappears without the macro being executed. I have tried putting a breakpoint on the first line of the macro and then executing it from the main IDE, with no effect (the breakpoint isn't hit). I have tried the same from the Macro IDE: The state changes to "running", but the breakpoint isn't hit. I have to break the execution manually. Any ideas?

• Jquery - Errors only in Internet Explorer

  Hey Guys I am getting several errors only on IE8 running on my vista OS. On the other browsers (Chrome, FF, Safari) everything works fine. Not sure where to begin looking. • How do I pre-empt IIS StaticFileHandler with my own HttpHandler

  Hi there, I'm building a website referencing an assembly that contains several js scripts as embedded resources, some controls which use those scripts and a 'HttpResourcesHandler' that knows how to retrieve those embedded scripts when asked for them. In web.config I have an entry in the section that reads <add verb="*" path="/embedded/controlscripts/*" validate="false" type="CWeb.Controls.Web.HttpResourcesHandler, CWeb.Controls.EditBox" /> This control adn the website work absolutely fine when debugging with the Visual Studio web development server, but if I then switch the website to run under IIS (v7 - I'm running Vista and there appears to be no problem with debugging the site using IIS 5 or 6), the control can no longer access the scripts. I get a HTTP 404.0 error screen indicating the StaticFileHandler cannot find the file. I know that - it's embedded. So the StaticFileHandler appears to be grabbing the request for the script before my own and returning a 404. How do I tell IIS to use my own resource handler for the embedded/controlscripts directory rather than the staticfilehandler? I'm running the website in classic mode by the way.

• Apache rewrite to add a directory to REQUEST_URI not working on localhost running wamp.

  I'm running wamp on Vista (Apache v2.2.11) and have projects setup such that http://localhost/projectx is the base directory for projectx. Now, I want that requests for http://localhost/projectx/somepage/extra will rewrite to http://localhost/projectx/PUBLIC/somepage/extra To that end I have a file in C:\wamp\www\projectx\.htacces that is this simple: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /projectx RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/PUBLIC RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /PUBLIC$1 [L] I can't for the life of me figure out why this doesn't work. The error I'm getting is "The requested URL /PUBLIC was not found on this server". Thanks.

• Which Win32 API reports the Format preference in the Region and Language control panel?

  Windows 7 and Windows Vista have a Region and Language control panel which contains a Formats tab which contains a popup menu titled Format. This menu allows the user to select from among many language-oriented sets of number, currency, time, and date formatting preferences regardless of the language of the base system. For example, I could decide I prefer the default currency symbol to be Japanese yen on a US English system. The Windows Contacts application changes its behavior depending on these format preferences. For example, if I select Japanese formatting preferences, Windows Contacts displays and lets me edit phonetic names (AKA "ruby", "yomi", and "furigana") but not middle names. If I select US English formatting preferences, Windows Contacts displays and lets me edit middle names but not phonetic names. I need to write code (native C calling Win32) which mirrors the behavior of the Windows Contacts application in this respect. Which API should I call?

• Simple cross platform GUI app

  I would like to know if there is any way that I could build a very simple GUI app (it doesn't even have to look good) that will run on a fresh install of Windows Vista and OS X with no other installations needed by the user. I would perfer not to use Java (just out of personal programming preference). I will use it though, if it is the only way. Specically, I am wondering if I can write a swing app with Scala or Groovy and run in on windows without them having to install anything. Sorry if this is a silly question, I am a Obj-C developer by trade.

• Using a .Net Workstation Program With a LAMP Server

  Hi, I am currently working on a project for a company with a Ubuntu LAMP server set up. All the workstations are on Windows XP/Vista. What we are trying to do is create a program to track parts in our warehouse. Server side would be programmed in PHP. However, I was thinking about using C# on the workstation side. Is this possible? If so, is this practical? What kind of problems could arise from something like this?
