  • How to specify importance of html elements?

    Is it possible to specify what elements of the page are important, or, more specifically, what elements of the page are not important? I'm using HTML5 new elements (nav, header, footer, section, article, aside...), but in the description of the website, there's sometimes my login form (in the header of my page though) in the Google description of my website pages... Is there a solution to resolve this problem? Thank you.

  • Dynamically loading external HTML in a div using Java Script

    I have prepared some demo examples for the topic. There is page name "changelog.html" here: http://pantheon-studios.in/test/jquery/changelog.html This is working fine if loaded directly. I am trying to load this page dynamically into: http://pantheon-studios.in/test/jquery/index.html Here changelog.html doesn't behaving as expected. I think the init script on changelog.html is not getting executed or something else is happening when loading it dynamically. Like wise I do have couple of other pages using various jQuery and other java scripts plugins. Some of those needs initialization like animatedcollapse.js in the above example, and couple of them doesn't need initialization, you can directly call the script and go. I also gave a try using: jQuery.getScript("anim.js") after dynamically loading "changelog.html" but doesn't work. The "anim.js" contains animatedcollapse.addDiv('cat', 'fade=0,speed=400,group=pets,hide=1'); animatedcollapse.addDiv('dog', 'fade=0,speed=400,group=pets,hide=1'); animatedcollapse.addDiv('rabbit', 'fade=0,speed=400,group=pets,hide=1'); animatedcollapse.init(); I would really appreciate is some one point me out the right direction. I am completely new to web programming so please have some patience with me. Thanks

  • Best Practice: Protecting Personally Identifiable Data in a ASP.NET / SQL Server 2008 Environment

    Thanks to a SQL injection vulnerability found last week, some of my recommendations are being investigated at work. We recently re-did an application which stores personally identifiable information whose disclosure could lead to identity theft. While we read some of the data on a regular basis, the restricted data we only need a couple of times a year and then only two employees need it. I've read up on SQL Server 2008's encryption function, but I'm not convinced that's the route I want to go. My problem ultimately boils down to the fact that we're either using symmetric keys or assymetric keys encrypted by a symmetric key. Thus it seems like a SQL injection attack could lead to a data leak. I realize permissions should prevent that, permissions should also prevent the leaking in the first place. It seems to me the better method would be to asymmetrically encrypt the data in the web application. Then store the private key offline and have a fat client that they can run the few times a year they need to access the restricted data so the data could be decrypted on the client. This way, if the server get compromised, we don't leak old data although depending on what they do we may leak future data. I think the big disadvantage is this would require re-writing the web application and creating a new fat application (to pull the restricted data). Due to the recent problem, I can probably get the time allocated, so now would be the proper time to make the recommendation. Do you have a better suggestion? Which method would you recommend? More importantly why?

  • Best practice for near reuse of model components?

    I have a requirement to use a Fund model in my code. It will contain a fund name and fund code. In the interest of reuse I've poked around the package containing the other models used and found an existing Fund model. However the issue here is that, in addition to fund name and code, it also contains an amount. Amount isn't directly relevant in my context. So, do I: 1) Use the existing Fund model as is, ignoring the setters/getters for fund amount. 2) Put a FundDescription interface onto the existing Fund model for accessing only the information I'm interested in. 3) Make a FundDescription base class from which the existing Fund model could now extend 4) Create a whole new seperate model since the two are slightly contextually different

  • Does anybody have practice in programming PCMEF - architectures?

    PCMEF is an architecture style presented in the book Practical Software Engineering by Maciaszek and Liong. The layers are: P: Presentation C: Controller M: Mediator E: Entity F: Foundation. It is some kind of enchancement compared with MVC - architecture. I recommend it to interactice, data and communicating - oriented purposes. I have programmed it using Visual Prolog. Foundation in my applications is the data model (domains) for the application. PCMEF is like a simulated computer: Presentation is the display, Controller the user interface and event handling, Mediator the internal logic and data highway. Entity is the database or external interfaces and F defines the knowledge. This is a really nice small architecture. Does any other have experiance of it?

While I imagine there may be no canonical approach, I had the following idea and am looking for feedback. I would like to maintain readable document ids as much as possible, so a document existing at /document1 would contain a pointer document to all existing versions on the system. The actual revision documents would be at something like /document1/308ef032a3801a where 308ef032a3801a is some random number or hash.   • Best practice- How to team-split a django project while still allowing code reusal

    I know this sounds kind of vague, but please let me explain- I'm starting work on a brand new project, it will have two main components: "ACME PRODUCT" (think Gmail, Meebo, etc), and "THE SITE" (help, information, marketing stuff, promotional landing pages, etc lots of marketing-induced cruft). So basically the url /acme/* will load stuff in the uber cool ajaxy application, and every other URI will load stuff in the other site. Problem: "THE SITE" component is out of my hands, and will be handled by a consultants team that will work closely with marketing, And I and my team will work solely on the ACME PRODUCT. Question: How to set up the django project in such a way that we can have: Seperate releases. (They can push new marketing pages and functionality without having to worry about the state of our code. Maybe even separate Subversion "projects") Minimize impact (on our product) of whatever flying-unicorns-hocus-pocus the other team codes into the site. Still allow some code reusal. My main concern is that the ACME product needs to be rock solid, and therefore needs to be somewhat isolated of whatever mistakes/code bloopers the consultants make in their marketing side of the site. How have you handled this? Any ideas? Thanks!

    I am trying to get history.js to work in Internet Explorer because I need history.pushState() to work. I have read over the instructions on GitHub (https://github.com/balupton/History.js/) and have tried implementing it, but havent had any success.     I have an Iframe that links to another html page. The iframe is contained within a div. I found some code that would auto adjust the high depending on the contents of the iframe. This code works fine in firefox and older versions of internet explorer but its not adjusting the height in v7 or later.....     Hello I have 2 frames in one page like this (home.html) <frameset rows="50%, 50%"> <frame id="treeContent" src="treeContent.html" /> <frame id="treeStatus" src="treeStatus.html" /> </frameset> and then in one frame (treeStatus.html) I have something like <body style="margin: 0px"> <div id="statusText">Status bar for Tree</div> </body> I want from the top window to manipulate the div located in the child frame via jquery (e.g show and hide). I have seen several questions like this and they suggest the following $(document).ready(function(){ $('#treeStatus').contents().find("statusText").hide(); }); I do not know if this works with iframes but in my case where I have simple frames it does not seem to work. I would prefer not to call "[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:..." repeatedly as it makes for inconcise code and I assume will incur overhead.     There are some new size units with CSS 3, which allows you to resize elements relative to the viewport size. They are vw, vh, vmin (that’s vm in IE), and perhaps vmax. (Viewport width, height, smaller of the two, larger of the two.) 8vw is 8% of the viewport width – or 205 pixels on my 2560 screen. I created a tiny demo clock which sizes the elements so that it uses the whole screen. Clock – in Norwegian, but it’s the source that is interesting… Bug: Resize does not work. Tested for IE 9 & 10 and Chrome. Firefox and Safari: does not work.

  • Is this SQL select code following good practice?

    I am using sqlite and will port to mysql (5) later. I wanted to know if I am doing something I shouldnt be doing. I tried purposely to design so I'll compare to 0 instead of 1 (I changed hasApproved to NotApproved to do this, not a big deal and I haven't written any code). I was told I never need to write a subquery but I do here. My Votes table is just id, ip, postid (I don't think I can write that subquery as a join instead?) and that's pretty much all that is on my mind. Naming conventions I don't really care about since the tables are created via reflection and is all over the place. select id, name, body, upvotes, downvotes, (select 1 from UpVotes where IPAddr=?
