• How to stop getting too focused on a train of thought when programming?

  I often find myself getting too focused on a train of thought when programming, which results in me having what I guess could be described as "tunnel vision". As a result of this I miss important details/clues, which means I waste a fair amount of time before finally deciding the path I'm taking to solve the task is wrong. Afterwards, I take a step back which almost always results in me discovering what I've missed in a lot less time.. It's becoming really frustrating as it feels like I'm wasting a lot of time and effort, so I was wondering if anyone else had experienced similar issues, and had some suggestions to stop going down dead ends and programming "blindly" as it were!

• Speakers don't work in 12.10 but they work fine on windows7

  I have recently upgraded my Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 version and find issues with my speakers as well as microphone. When I boot the system they don't work, but(don't know why) when I restart once or twice they work fine. There is no problem with my laptop(dell xps) as they work well on windows7. I have my sound settings as follows Hardware --- Built-in Audio 1 Outpu/1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex Input(Internal Microphone) & Output(Speakers) -----Built-in audio Analog Stereo Any suggestions to fix the problem??

• EBS 11.5.10 Support Exception / 12.1 Extends to Dec 2018

  E-Business Suite 11.5.10 Sustaining Support Exception & 12.1 Extended Support Now to Dec. 2018 [ID 1495337.1] As part of Oracle’s continued commitment to our customers, we will be providing an exception for the first 13 months of Sustaining Support on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 (11i10), valid from December 1, 2013 – December 31, 2014. This exception support will be comprised of three components: (1) new fixes for Severity 1 production issues, (2) United States Form 1099 2013 year-end updates, and (3) payroll regulatory updates for the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia for fiscal years ending in 2014.  In addition, the Extended Support period for E-Business Suite Release 12.1 has been extended through December, 2018. Customers with an active Oracle Premier Support for Software contract will automatically be entitled to Extended Support deliverables for E-Business Suite 12.1. Please refer to the Lifetime Support section of oracle.com for further information regarding Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy for Applications. • Shader inputs in a general purpouse engine

  I'm not familiar with SDKs like Unity or UDK that much, so i can't check this off hand. Do general purpouse engines allow users to create custom uniform variables? The way i see it, and the way i have implemented it in an engine i'm writing to learn 3D, is that there is a "set" of uniforms provided by the engine and if you want to write a custom shader then you utilize uniforms you need to create a wanted effect. Now, the thing is, first of all i'm not an artist, second of all, i didn't have a chance to create complex scenes yet. So my question is, is it common practice to define variables that the engine provides and only allow the user to work with what they're given? Allowing users to add custom programs and use them where they want is not hard, but i have issues imagining how you'd go about doing the same for uniforms.

• Dropbox icon dissapears right after login

  Even though Dropbox's app indicator dissapearing from the tray area seems like a recurrent enough problem, my issue is a litte different. When I login, I can see the app panel populating, and the dropbox icon does indeed appear (config'd as startup application), but after some other icons show up (bluetooth, battery, etc.) it's gone. It's still running though. I'm guessing it's having issues with staying pinned, and I don't know how to start addressing this problem. I have tried many if not all solutions provided here in the forums for the "icon missing" questions. So far: I've whitelisted everything regarding panel Uninstalled-reinstalled (with and without rebooting in between) Overwritten current installation Purged installation from terminal Installed from Software Center and from .deb file batch deleted every "dropbox" ocurrences from terminal (files and folders) and reinstalled Ran sudo apt-get install libappindicator1, it installed, but didn't solve anything I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - 64 bits. Any insight would me much appreciated!

• How to load a text file from a server into iPhone game with AS3 in Adobe AIR?

  Im creating an iPhone game with Adobe AIR, and I want to be able to load a simple text msg into an dynamic text box on the games front screen from my server (and then be able to update that text file on the server, so it updates automatically in the game after the game is on the app store) How would I go about acheiving that? is it as simple as using a getURL? are there any specifical issues with trying to do this on the iPhone via AIR that I should be aware of? Thanks for any advice.

• I want to record a screencast of a processing sketch

  I have a created a music visualisation using Processing. I now want to convert that to a video, and the least obtrusive way I could think of is to record a screencast. I figured exporting Processing to video including audio, from within Processing itself, on ubuntu seemed an unsolved issue. Very hard and also could cause timing sync issues (since the music keeps running while images are captured). So move on to the screencast method. Dead-easy, I figured. But I was wrong. First hurdle was to find a way to record the sound from the audio (and not the mic). I did find a tutorial for that here. In short: use gtk-recordmydesktop and pulse audio. But, apparently, what happens: Processing does not use ALSA. When the sound is playing, it does not appear in the Pulse Audio mixer. How can I record the audio now?

But I'd like to know what's coming out this year. Good answers can include: A game that's coming out in 2011 A Linux port being released for games that might be older (eg Trine) As much information and as many screenshots and links as possible Few old games unless they're doing a major update that changes the game very significantly. • ORA-28001 the password has expired error in Solaris Cluster

  Solaris Cluster start or stop Oracle database using credentials of a specified user in Oracle Database. If you have issues with starting of Oracle Database resource and see ORA-28001 error message in /var/adm/messages it means that database user's who is used by Solaris Cluster to start Oracle database, password has expired. To resolve the issue reset the password of the Oracle database user SQL> alter user user_name identified by password  and change connection string in Solaris Cluster using following command -bash-3.2 # /usr/cluster/bin/clresource set -p Connect_string="user/password" oracle_resource

• Is it Considered Good SQL practice to use GUID to link multiple tables to same Id field?

  I want to link several tables to a many-to-many(m2m) table. One table would be called location and this table would always be on one side of the m2m table. But I will have a list of several tables for example: Cards Photographs Illustrations Vectors Would using GUID's between these tables to link it to a single column in another table be considered 'Good Practice'? Will Mysql let me to have it automatically cascade updates and delete? If so, would multiple cascades lead to an issues? UPDATE I've read that GUID (a hex number) Generally takes up more space in a database and slows queries down. However I could still generate 'unique' ids by just having the table initial's as part of the id so that the table card's id would be c0001, and then Illustrations be I001. Regardless of this change, the questions still stands.

• Java JRE 7 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

  Java Runtime Environment 7u10 (a.k.a. JRE 1.7.0_10 build 18) and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 Windows-based desktop clients. What do you need to do and where are the official patch requirements? EBS customers should ensure that they are running JRE 7u10, at minimum, on Windows desktop clients.  There are also official patch requirements to avoid compatibility issues of E-Business Suite with JRE 7.  Please refer to Steven Chan's Oracle E-Business Suite Technology blog for all the detailed information regarding this certification.

To do so, you need to get the comm_dssetup 6.4 patch, patch the comm_dssetup script, and then run the patched comm_dssetup against your Directory Server(s) instances. In addition, if you are using the nsUniqueId attribute as your deployment's unique identifier, you'll want to change that to the new davUniqueId attribute. • Why is it so hard to get people to pay for software?

  Where I come from software is considered something you can get for free (same goes for movies, etc.) The willingness not to pay for software is quite strong. It is putting me off, that people would rather go through hoops and risk legal issues than to pay a small amount of money for a piece of software. This attitude is somehow embedded in the society. I'm just trying to understand the situation. What do you think is causing this? Why won't some people pay for software even if it's cheap and they use it every day?

  Here is a query language, more specifically, it's JQL, you can use it in Jira, to search for issues, it's something like SQL, but quite simpler. My case is that, I need to construct such queries programmatically, in my application. Something like: JQLMachine jqlMachine = new JQLMachine() jqlMachine.setStatuses("Open", "In Progress") jqlMachine.setReporter("foouser", "baruser") jqlMachine.setDateRange(...) jqlMachine.getQuery() --> String with corresponding JQL query is returned You get my point I hope. I can imagine the code for this, but it's not nice, using my current knowledge how I'd do that. That's why I'm asking. What you'd advice to use to create such thing. I believe some patterns for creating something like this already exist and there is already best practices, how to do that in good way.

• Advice on how to understand in general and in practice IT Infrastructure

  My IT knowledge resides mainly in SW development. I have just some basic know how about networks. On the net I tried to get information and read books in order to better understand the overall IT infrastrcuture, but all the sources I found are too generic or, mainly, too detailed in just one aspect, making me lost. Could anyone suggest some books or web resources as good compromise in details? My goal would be able to understand the network issues and security threats when, for example, two remote system have to be setup and put in connection each other. Considering this scenario there are several aspects to consider: firewalls, intranet/internet interconnections, certificates for httpS, etc. The argument is quite wide, therefore I was looking for something that might help to start to understand this subject without going too deep in details (Computer Networks from A.Tanenbaum is a wonderful milestone, but way too specific for my scope). • ATI graphics card, with gnome shell, screen flickers

  After installing gnome shell, without any problem, after log in the fonts are missing and it looks like crap...nothing is readable. Don't want to make it a double post, because my issue is similar to the one from this question but for me the problems have not been solved properly. After running the commands from that post, and installing the latest AMD 11.10 driver, the Gnome shell display issues have been solved. But each time I move the mouse in the upper left corner, to bring up the applications...my entire screen flickers. Without the applications been displayed, everything looks fine. Hardware: ATI HD4870, Intel Q6600.

• How can I make the unity sidebar visible permanently (as in, in all circumstances)?

  Yes, I have seen the other similar questions; if this is a duplicate please link me to the question that answer this, because none of them appear to; all appear to only address (1) of the two issues below: There are TWO times when the sidebar will magically vanish: 1) By default when you move your cursor off it and focus on a different app. This is fixable by setting the auto hide behaviour, as described here: How to make the Unity launcher always visible? 2) When you move a window over / under it, or maximize a window. Even when the autohide setting is 'never' this will cause the sidebar to mysterious decide to hide itself. In fact, it doesn't appear what settings you change, this behaviour refuses to change. This is extremely undesired behaviour. I'm using a stock standard 11.10 install.

  Am Having issues with My Wireless 1 My laptop had dual boot windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.04 I upgraded to windows 8 and after the first 2-3 reboots all was working well in windows and ubuntu then my wireless in ubuntu stoped working saying "wifi is disabled by hardware switch" the hardware switch has no effect I removed network manager installed new firmwares and still nothing the wifi was not working in a moment of testing I installed wifi radar and this can detect the wireless signals and at one point it connected but still Network manger still says disabled. My Laptop is a HP Pavilion dm4 2070us with Wireless Centrino N 1000 I have updated to 13.10 thinking it would fix it but still nothing

  A couple of my friends run a business and they asked me to build them a public website. It will only be used for information about the company with soe pictures. No transactions will be involved. Right now I work for a company where I build internal websites, and do alot of backend programming in C#. I understand html, css, jquery, etc. so I feel like I am completely capable of building a website for them. However, I do not know all the basic knowledge to building one. For example, where should we host the files, what type of security issues do I need to be aware of, what's the best software to use for developing websites (I use visual studio at work), where can I find some design techniques, etc. Any help is appreciated.
