• Stop Windows 8 from converting wallpapers to low quality JPGs

  This has been bugging me on Windows 7 as well, and much to my chagrin Microsoft didn't bother addressing that issue in Windows 8. Take this image for example: http://mantia.me/goodies/desktops/supermariobros_wide.jpg It's made for retina Macbooks, so naturally it's being downscaled when setting it as wallpaper on my 1680x1050 screen. • How to prevent bad queries from breaking replication?

  For my personal experience, mysql replication is fragile. I know that there area many things not to do beacuse they could break replication, but we are humans and the error could always occur. So I was thinking... is there a way to enforce mysql replication? Something that prevents queries that are dangerous for the replication to be runt? In other words I'm searching for something that saves replication even if I accidentally run evil queries.

• No compatibility tab for Devenv.exe (VS 2010 and VS 2012) on Windows 8

  I've tried checking the "Run as Administrator" on the shortcut, but that doesn't always seem to work, like when I open the solution through the jumplist. I browsed to the devenv.exe file, but when I open the properties for the file the Compatibility tab is not there. It is there for other executables in the same directory. Does anyone know how I can get the tab back so that I can set the Run as Administrator open on the executable?

Google has plenty of solutions for Nginx but not a word for Apache.

• How to change the default domain controller when querying AD in a different site ?

  We have 2 different locations, and at both site we have multiple domain controllers (Win2008). In our application we use Serverless Binding to execute our LDAP queries http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms677945(v=vs.85).aspx. If we look at de DnsHostName of the LDAP://RootDse on site B we always get the default domain controller of site A. Therefor all LDAP queries go much slower. Is there a way to change the default domain controller per site ?

• Can IOS be upgraded on a Cisco Catalyst 6509 switch without downtime?

  There's this Cisco Catalyst 6509 switch with 2 (two) supervisor modules; one of them is active, the other is (almost always) in standby. We need to upgrade IOS; current version is 12.2.something (I can check exactly which one, if this does matter). Can this be done without service interruption? Something like "upgrade the standby supervisor, activate it, upgrade the other one"?

• How do I create a SCCM package where the main installation initiates self-contained msi's?

  I have a few applications that are installed using InstallShield -- during the installation one or two parts of the application are installed with msi's. I've tried recording an iss file to instruct the installation process, but these installations always seem to freeze up. I've also tried installing in a sequence, first installing the msi's, but this doesn't prevent the main installation from trying to install these. Any tips/suggestions/ideas? Thanks!

  I have a FTP7.5 on my Windows 2008 server and would like to use this for FXP, however regardless of the other server in question I can never complete a transfer. It always fails with this message: [L] 501-Server cannot accept argument. [L] Win32 error: The parameter is incorrect. [L] Error details: Client IP on the control channel didn't match the client IP on the data channel. I've tested normal use and it works fine, is there any setting I can change to allow for FXP?

I tried to use runas /user:Administrator, but it always asked me for password (even though there isn't one set). The script needs to run unattended for a long time, and it needs to be started from standard user account (it is actually being run by cygwin), so I'd like to get rid of that prompt.   I'm doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and I have an on board software RAID. I "need" to install the drivers via the infamous F6 process. Technically, it should be possible to do so after the OS has been booted, but long story short, this isn't going to work well for me. Is it possible to install F6 drivers during the installation using a USB, or must that always be done using floppies? What are my alternatives?

• pscp.exe (Putty SCP) ignoring preserve attributes flag

  I am trying to scp files from a windows server to a linux server with the original time and dates intact. When running the command: pscp.exe -p C:\temp\somefile.txt user@server:/temp/ The file on the server always has the date/time of the transfer, not the original file. Putty SCP seems to be completely ignoring the preserve attributes flag. Anyone experienced this before and/or have a solution?
