  • What happens with project backlog if sprint due date is missed?

    Suppose that I have project backlog item with effort of 40 hours. My sprint is 40 hours (1 week) and I have one developer in team. So developer creates child task to pending backlog and estimates work to 40 hours. At the end of the sprint developer didn't succeed in resolving his task. Suppose that developer works only and only 40 hours per week. On the next week there would be new backlog items and new sprint. What should I do with backlog item and velocity graph? Obviously backlog item is not resolved on that sprint. Should I estimate the remaining work and subtract it from effort , so that now I see that our velocity is, say, 38hr per 40hr sprint?

  • Add Mirror for volumes other than the last one in Windows 7 (disk "not up-to-date")

    I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have an existing 4TB disk with 3 NTFS volumes, a new 3TB blank disk, and I'm trying to mirror the volumes onto the new disk. My Windows install is on an SSD which is Disk 0. The 4TB disk with volumes is Disk 1, and the new blank disk is Disk 2. I can add a mirror successfully for the last volume, but when I try to add a mirror for the first volume I immediately get errors (see below). Is there something I special I need to do to add a mirror for a volume other than the last one? More info: I opened Disk Management, right-clicked on the first volume on the existing disk, went to Add Mirror, and selected the new disk. The first time I did this I was prompted to convert the new disk to a Dynamic Disk, which I approved. Subsequently I got a message: The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer. I've refreshed disk management, restarted the computer, and converted the new disk to basic and back to dynamic, but I still get that error message. Looking around for suggestions of a workaround, I saw a suggestion to use the diskpart command line tool. Running diskpart from the Start Menu as Administrator, I did select volume 2 (the first volume I want to mirror) and then add disk 2 (the new disk), and received a somewhat similar error: Virtual Disk Service error: The disk's extent information is corrupted. DiskPart has referenced an object which is not up-to-date. Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command. If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the computer. A rescan appears to be successful: DISKPART> select disk 2 Disk 2 is now the selected disk. DISKPART> rescan Please wait while DiskPart scans your configuration... DiskPart has finished scanning your configuration. but attempting to add the mirror again resulted in the same error. The only similar report I found online was this: http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/335780-unable-mirror-all-but-last-partition-drive.html Based on that I attempted to mirror the last volume on the disk to the new disk using diskpart, and that started successfully -- it is currently resynchronizing. More Background: In the course of dealing with a failing 3TB hard drive, I bought a replacement 4TB drive and installed it, then copied the partitions from the failing drive to it using Minitool Partition Wizard Home, and then removed the failing drive and was up and running again normally. Now I've received a warranty replacement for the failing drive, and installed it, and now I'm attempting to mirror my partitions to it.

  • Built local glibc, broke system, how do I ssh without parsing the .bashrc?

    The cluster I am on had really old build tools and I needed to use CUDA5. I'm a pretty clever dude and I planned on building the necissary tools. So, I built a local copy of gcc, bintools, and glibc. Everything a CUDA5 could want. All builds finished without error. and I tested gcc and bintools. Everything was wonderful and I built and ran a few of the programs. I set up the LD_LIBRARY_PATHs in the .bashrc and logged back in, expecting a productive night ahead. To my horror I realized that everything is dynamically linked. Now I can't do simple commands like ls [ex@uid377 ~]$ ls ls: error while loading shared libraries: __vdso_time: invalid mode for dlopen(): Invalid argument and I can't do commands to fix the problem like rm or vim! Is there a way for me to ssh but also to ignore .bashrc file? Any suggestions are much appreciated. This machine is obviously under maintained and I don't know when I could have administrator support.

Basically, except for last minute bugfixes, the version of Ubuntu 10.10 you can download today is identical to the version of Ubuntu 10.10 you can download on the 10th when it gets released. If you downloaded and installed Ubuntu 10.10 today, you would: help find glaring issues for last minute fixing help defray the network load on October 10th see Ubuntu 10.10 in action without waiting Those sound like pretty strong arguments... to me, and indeed I've been using Ubuntu 10.10 for a month now roughly. However, most people prefer to make the jump with everybody else on release day. What are the rational reasons for that?

    Situation GNOME Shell AutoKey / autokey-gtk it has a predefined shortcut "adr" which should write an address after hitting space and a shortcut "date" which should write the current date (after hitting tab) Problem no matter what I define, "adr" or "date" it always inserts as much blank lines as the template uses Example: "date" should autocomplete after pressing space to "13/08/01" but it inserts one empty line "adr" should do my full address but it inserts 4 empty lines Question What could be wrong with my AutoKey? Do you need additional information?

    I recently purchased an existing domain name through the site name.com and after I made the payment, I realized that the domain expired about 10 days earlier. Is it legal/good practice to sell already expired domains as-is, or would most domain selling companies also extend the expiration date by an extra year. It wouldn't be such a big deal, however domains with this particular TLD cost $89/year to renew.

  • How do we keep dependent data structures up to date?

    Suppose you have a parse tree, an abstract syntax tree, and a control flow graph, each one logically derived from the one before. In principle it is easy to construct each graph given the parse tree, but how can we manage the complexity of updating the graphs when the parse tree is modified? We know exactly how the tree has been modified, but how can the change be propagated to the other trees in a way that doesn't become difficult to manage? Naturally the dependent graph can be updated by simply reconstructing it from scratch every time the first graph changes, but then there would be no way of knowing the details of the changes in the dependent graph. I currently have four ways to attempt to solve this problem, but each one has difficulties. Nodes of the dependent tree each observe the relevant nodes of the original tree, updating themselves and the observer lists of original tree nodes as necessary. The conceptual complexity of this can become daunting. Each node of the original tree has a list of the dependent tree nodes that specifically depend upon it, and when the node changes it sets a flag on the dependent nodes to mark them as dirty, including the parents of the dependent nodes all the way down to the root. After each change we run an algorithm that is much like the algorithm for constructing the dependent graph from scratch, but it skips over any clean node and reconstructs each dirty node, keeping track of whether the reconstructed node is actually different from the dirty node. This can also get tricky. We can represent the logical connection between the original graph and the dependent graph as a data structure, like a list of constraints, perhaps designed using a declarative language. When the original graph changes we need only scan the list to discover which constraints are violated and how the dependent tree needs to change to correct the violation, all encoded as data. We can reconstruct the dependent graph from scratch as though there were no existing dependent graph, and then compare the existing graph and the new graph to discover how it has changed. I'm sure this is the easiest way because I know there are algorithms available for detecting differences, but they are all quite computationally expensive and in principle it seems unnecessary so I'm deliberately avoiding this option. What is the right way to deal with these sorts of problems? Surely there must be a design pattern that makes this whole thing almost easy. It would be nice to have a good solution for every problem of this general description. Does this class of problem have a name?

  • Using automated bdd-gui-tests to keep user-documentation-screenshots up do date?

    Are there developpers out there, who (ab)use the CaptureScreenshot() function of their automated gui-tests to also create uptodate-screenshots for the userdocumentation? Background: Whithin the lifetime of an application, its gui-elements are constantly changing. It makes a lot of work to keep the userdocumentation uptodate, especially if the example data in the pictures should match the textual description. If you already have automated bdd-gui-tests why not let them take screenshots at certain points? I am currently playing with webapps in dotnet+specflow+selenium, but this topic also applies to other bdd-engines (JRuby-Cucumber, mspec, rspec, ...) and gui-test-Frameworks (WaitN, WaitR, MsWhite, ....) Any experience, thoughts or url-links to this topic would be helpfull. How is the cost/benefit relation? Is it worth the efford? What are the Drawbacks?     I am using slapadd to restore a backup. That backup contains 45k entries which takes a while to restore so I need to get some progress update from slapadd. Luckily for me there is the -v switch which gives an output similar to this one: added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d53) added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d54) added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d55) .######## 44.22% eta 05m05s elapsed 04m spd 29.2 k/s added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d56) added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d57) added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d58) added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00003d59) Every N entries added, slapadd writes a progress update output line (.######## 44.22% eta 05m05s elapsed ...) which I want to keep and an output line for every entry created which I want to hide because it exposes people's email address but still want to count them to know how many users were imported The way I thought about hiding emails and showing the progress update is this: $ slapadd -v ... 2>&1 | tee log.txt | grep '########' # => would give me real-time progress update $ grep "added" log.txt | wc -l # => once backup has been restored I would know how many users were added I tried different variations of the above, and whatever I try I can't grep the progress update output line. I traced slapadd as follows: sudo strace slapadd -v ... And here is what I get: write(2, "added: \"[email protected]"..., 78added: "[email protected],ou=People,dc=example,dc=org" (00000009) ) = 78 gettimeofday({1322645227, 253338}, NULL) = 0 _######## 44.22% eta 05m05s elapsed 04m spd 29.2 k/s ) = 80 write(2, "\n", 1 ) As you can see, the percentage line isn't sent to either stdout or stderr (FYI I have validated with known working and failing commands that 2 is stderr and 1 is stdout) Q1: Where is the progress update output line going?   • root issues in softwarecenter, synaptic and update manager

  • Jumplists; Frequent and Recent parts always out of date

    I really tried to figure this problem out, but my "Recent 5" and "All" Playlists of Win7's WMP12 never contain anything. Also I have the "frequent" part of all the apps' jumplists filled with rarely-used or one-time-used options, also "recent" parts are rarely up-to-date and many recent files I've used are not mentioned in the jumplist's "recent" part.
