  • Two questions about jQuery UI Dialog

    Hi, I have two questions about jQuery UI Dialog: (1) How can I open a big dialog with topleft corner at my mouseclick point (and if the point is very near the right-bottom corner of my viewport, the dialog will be partly outside the viewport)? I know I can set position for the dialog, but it seems the dialog always overrides my position specifications by bringing itself wholly back into the viewport. (2) If I have multiple dialogs open, how can I find the one that is currently topmost (and if there are several topmost ones that do not overlap, find any one of them)? Thanks!

  • how to revert non-corrupted mssql database with stopat

    i have a good, working valid non-corrupted database in mssql that i want to revert to a point in time how is that done? the standard RESTORE command requires a full backup as a starting point, and then log backups thereafter. i cant understand why this must be done from a backup. if my db is good and the logs are OK, why cant i just revert with a STOPAT from the live logs in the db? one dba suggested that whenever i want to restore i should THEN make a log backup and then RESTORE with STOPAT. i believe it would work but sounds a little backwards any better ideas? thank you very much

  • Secure Webservice?

    I'm trying to create a secure webservice (that provides simple database data) with PHP that can be connected to through my Silverlight application. I don't know enough about PHP to be able to see another way to do this. The webservice should only be accessible through the client, and only with the proper username/password. The only two ways I can imagine to do this would be by passing the username/password hash via URL, or use a "hidden form" and do it via POST_. I'm just trying to get past this point, I'm the sole developer on this project and I'm just trying to get past this PHP webservice part so I can get back to being an application programmer :) Normally, I would learn PHP, but I'm on the clock, so I'm just looking for a point in the right direction on how to achieve this!

  • jquery scroll to a px count from top and then set a div to be fixed from the top for the rest of the scroll

    I am looking to change a div's css when i scroll to a certain point down the page, a certain amount of pixels from the top of the page. On page load i would have a div positioned statically. Once I started to scroll down the page and i hit a point from the top (say 100px for demo purposes) i want to change that static div to become fixed like 20px from the top. Which would be done via the css() property of jquery. THis would allow it to stay at that fixed 20px all the way down the page. What jquery property can i use to know when i hit that 100px mark. I want this to also revert once someone gets back to the top so that the div is put back to where it was when the page loaded and not 20px from the top. Any ideas?

  • Drawing Image onto Canvas Stretches Image?

    I have this code (stolen from the web): function readIt() { var reader = new FileReader(); reader.onload = (function(e) { var img = new Image(); img.src = e.target.result; var c = document.getElementById("canvas"); var ctx = c.getContext("2d"); ctx.drawImage(img, 0, 0); } ); reader.readAsDataURL(document.getElementById('userImage').files[0]); } Which works up to a point. The canvas's width and height are set to the size of the image, but only the top left of the image appears - It appears to be stretched so it fits all the space allocated to the canvas (enough to display the whole image - 615px x 615px). If I add an <img> element sized the same size as the canvas and point the src to the image in the file system it appears perfect. I'm using Chrome, but it appears the same in Firefox. Thanks in advance.

  • How can I measure distance with tastypie and geodjango?

    Using Tastypie and GeoDjango, I'm trying to return results of buildings located within 1 mile of a point. The TastyPie documentation states that distance lookups are not yet supported, but I am finding examples of people getting it work, such as this discussion and this discussion on StackOverflow, but no working code examples that can be applied. The idea that I am trying to work with is if I append a GET command to the end of a URL, then nearby locations are returned, for example: http://website.com/api/?format=json&building_point__distance_lte=[{"type": "Point", "coordinates": [153.09537, -27.52618]},{"type": "D", "m" : 1}] But when I try that, all I get back is: {"error": "Invalid resource lookup data provided (mismatched type)."} I've been pouring over the Tastypie document for days now and just can't figure out how to implement this. I'd provide more examples, but I know they'd be all terrible. All advice is appreciated, thank you!

    Say I have the following script: u = -5:.2:5; [X,Y] = meshgrid(u, u); Z = cos(X).*cos(Y).*exp(-sqrt(X.^2 + Y.^2)/4); surf(X,Y,Z); Is there anyway that I can make MatLab plot only parts of the surface? Say, for instance, I just want to plot a single point, or a single grid, what can I do? I thought perhaps to plot a single point I could use: surf(X(1,1), Y(1,1), Z(1,1)) But then I get the error message: ??? Error using ==> surf at 78 Data dimensions must agree. I would really appreciate some input/help here. Thanks in advance :)

  • Will an IO blocked process show 100% CPU utilization in 'top' output?

    I have an analysis that can be parallelized over a different number of processes. It is expected that things will be both IO and CPU intensive (very high throughput short-read DNA alignment if anyone is curious.) The system running this is a 48 core linux server. The question is how to determine the optimum number of processes such that total throughput is maximized. At some point the processes will presumably become IO bound such that adding more processes will be of no benefit and possibly detrimental. Can I tell from standard system monitoring tools when that point has been reached? Would the output of top (or maybe a different tool) enable me to distinguish between a IO bound and CPU bound process? I am suspicious that a process blocked on IO might still show 100% CPU utilization.

  • How can I pass a type as a parameter in scala?

    I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out how can I store or pass a type in scala. What I want to achive is something like this: abstract class Foo( val theType : type ) object Foo{ case object Foo1 extends Foo(String) case object Foo2 extends Foo(Long) } So at some point I can do this: theFoo match{ case String => "Is a string" case Long => "Is a long" } and when obtaining the object being able to cast it: theFoo.asInstanceOf[Foo1.theType] Is this possible? If is possible, is a good aproach? What I'm trying to achieve ultimately is writing a pseudo schema for byte stream treatment. E.g if I have an schema Array(Foo1,Foo1,Foo2,Foo3,Foo1) I could parse Arrays of bytes that complain with that schema, if at some point I have a different stream of bytes I could just write a new schema Array(Foo3, Foo4, Foo5) without having to reimplement parsing logic.     I want to know if a program that I am using and which requires a lot of memory is limited by the memory bandwidth. When do you expect this to happen? Did it ever happen to you in a real life scenario? I found several articles discussing this issue, including http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~mccalpin/papers/bandwidth/node12.html http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~mccalpin/papers/bandwidth/node13.html http://ispass.org/ucas5/session2_3_ibm.pdf The first link is a bit old, but suggests that you need to perform less than about 1-40 floating point operations per floating point variable in order to see this effect (correct me if I'm wrong). How can I measure the memory bandwidth that a given program is using and how do I measure the (peak) bandwidth that my system can offer? I don't want to discuss any complicated cache issues here. I'm only interested in the communication between the CPU and the memory.

  • Why does Apple use Objective-C for iPhone development? (App Store)

    I'm interested to know your opinion on why Apple uses a language such as Objective-C for app development. Does Apple's app store allow apps written only in this language? Does apple even look at your source-code or does it just care of the binary output? I learned that most of their app rejection (in the app store) is based upon apps crashing (probably memory leaks in which Objective-c is not very efficient unless you use a GC). Why not let developers use a safer language, like a scripting language? I think these are important questions for a developer (I don't even use Apple's products) because it seems like Apple's app store is the MOST successful app sale place on the web.

If a new point is added to the database they can right click on the UI and say "add this point" and choose from a list of database points. I'm looking for some pointers on where to start on creating this editor application, could something clever be done using XAML to dynamically create std WPF controls at runtime?   • How do I setup Eclipse to stop on the line an exception occured?

    Hi, How can I setup Eclipse to stop at the point an exception occurred. I have an Eclipse breakpoint setup to break on an exception. In the code example below, the problem I'm having is Eclipse tries to open the Integer source code. Is there any way to just have debugger break at the point shown in my code example? If I move down the stack trace, I will get to this line, it'd be nice if there's a way to do this without the "Source not found" window coming up.
