  I have the following model and instance: class Bashable(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) >>> foo = Bashable.objects.create(name=u"piñata") Now I want to be able to search for objects, but using ascii characters rather than unicode, something like this: >>> Bashable.objects.filter(name__lookslike="pinata") Is there a way in Django to do this sort of approximate string matching, using ascii stand-ins for the unicode characters in the database?   I am trying to build a CMS using ERB. Is there a way you can give ERB code read-only access to your models? For instance, I want to be able to load any information on my models (Model.all, Model.find_by_slug, Model.find_by_name, Model.other_model.name, etc...), but I don't want to be able to change this data. Can you disable ERB from executing commands that would make database changes (Model.save, Model.update, Model.delete, Model.destroy, etc.)???

• Rails engines extending functionality

  So I have an engine which defines some models and controllers. I want to be able to extend functionality of some models/controllers in my application (eg. adding methods) without loosing the original model/controller functionality from engine. Everywhere I read that you simply need to define controller with the same name in your application and Rails will automatically merge them, however it doesn't work for me and controller in engine is simply ignored (I don't think it's even loaded).

  I have the following model: class Service(models.Model): ratings = models.ManyToManyField(User) Now if I wanna get all the service with ratings sorted in descending order I did something: services_list = Service.objects.filter(ratings__gt=0).distinct() services_list = list(services_list) services_list.sort(key=lambda service: service.ratings.all().count(), reverse=True) As you can see its a three step process and I don't feel right about this. Anybody who knows a better way to do this?

  Let's say I have a table with millions of rows. Using JPA, what's the proper way to iterate over a query against that table, such that I don't have all an in-memory List with millions of objects? I suspect that the following will blow up if the table is large: List<Model> models = entityManager().createQuery("from Model m", Model.class).getResultList(); for (Model model : models) { // do something with model } Is pagination (looping and manually updating setFirstResult()/setMaxResult()) really the best solution?

Everything I've Googled has pointed to mySQL Proxy but I can only seem to capture the database a connection was opened to, not which the current query is being issued against. Is it even possible?   Hi, in a Model I have a CharField with choices: class MyModel(models.Model): THE_CHOICES=( ('val',_(u'Value Description')), ) ... myfield=models.CharField(max_length=3,choices=THE_CHOICES Now in the template I access an instance of MyModel: {{ my_instance.myfield }} Of course the gives me val instead of Value Description. • XNA, subtract 2 meshes at runtime?

  Hi, i wanted to know how to edit 3d models' vertices in XNA at runtime, i wana do something like the 3d max subtract feature where u put 2 models together and delete the intersecting vertices of 1 of them, more like carving one mesh with the other. see this if i wasn't clear anyway so any pointers on how to edit vertices at runtime or any help is really really appreciated. thanks

• odd response after INVITE request, SIP

  After sending an invite request i receive a trying answer, and immidietly after that i receive error 407 proxy authentication required. After sending ack & another invite with the proxy header i receive session progress about 1/4 of the time!! other times it just sends 407 error again & again. Any ideas?
