  • How do I return a message if $_GET is null or does not match any database entries?

    - by CT
    I am working on designing an IT Asset database. Here I am working on a page used to view details on a specific asset determined by an asset id. Here I grab $id from $_GET["id"]; When $id is null, the page does not load. When $id does not match any entry within the database, the page loads but no asset table is printed. In both these cases, I would like to display a message like "There is no database entry for that Asset ID" How would this be handled? Thank you. <?php /* * View Asset * */ # include functions script include "functions.php"; $id = $_GET["id"]; ConnectDB(); $type = GetAssetType($id); ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" /> <title>Wagman IT Asset</title> </head> <body> <div id="page"> <div id="header"> <img src="images/logo.png" /> </div> </div> <div id="content"> <div id="container"> <div id="main"> <div id="menu"> <ul> <table width="100%" border="0"> <tr> <td width="15%"></td> <td width="30%%"><li><a href="index.php">Search Assets</a></li></td> <td width="30%"><li><a href="addAsset.php">Add Asset</a></li></td> <td width="25%"></td> </tr> </table> </ul> </div> <div id="text"> <ul> <li> <h1>View Asset</h1> </li> </ul> <br /> <?php switch ($type){ case "Server": $result = QueryServer($id); $ServerArray = GetServerData($result); PrintServerTable($ServerArray); break; case "Desktop"; break; case "Laptop"; break; } ?> </div> </div> </div> <div class="clear"></div> <div id="footer" align="center"> <p>&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> <div id="tagline"> Wagman Construction - Bridging Generations since 1902 </div> </body> </html>

  • Advice on Factory Method

    - by heath
    Using php 5.2, I'm trying to use a factory to return a service to the controller. My request uri would be of the format www.mydomain.com/service/method/param1/param2/etc. My controller would then call a service factory using the token sent in the uri. From what I've seen, there are two main routes I could go with my factory. Single method: class ServiceFactory { public static function getInstance($token) { switch($token) { case 'location': return new StaticPageTemplateService('location'); break; case 'product': return new DynamicPageTemplateService('product'); break; case 'user' return new UserService(); break; default: return new StaticPageTemplateService($token); } } } or multiple methods: class ServiceFactory { public static function getLocationService() { return new StaticPageTemplateService('location'); } public static function getProductService() { return new DynamicPageTemplateService('product'); } public static function getUserService() { return new UserService(); } public static function getDefaultService($token) { return new StaticPageTemplateService($token); } } So, given this, I will have a handful of generic services in which I will pass that token (for example, StaticPageTemplateService and DynamicPageTemplateService) that will probably implement another factory method just like this to grab templates, domain objects, etc. And some that will be specific services (for example, UserService) which will be 1:1 to that token and not reused. So, this seems to be an ok approach (please give suggestions if it is not) for a small amount of services. But what about when, over time and my site grows, I end up with 100s of possibilities. This no longer seems like a good approach. Am I just way off to begin with or is there another design pattern that would be a better fit? Thanks. UPDATE: @JSprang - the token is actually sent in the uri like mydomain.com/location would want a service specific to loction and mydomain.com/news would want a service specific to news. Now, for a lot of these, the service will be generic. For instance, a lot of pages will call a StaticTemplatePageService in which the token is passed in to the service. That service in turn will grab the "location" template or "links" template and just spit it back out. Some will need DynamicTemplatePageService in which the token gets passed in, like "news" and that service will grab a NewsDomainObject, determine how to present it and spit that back out. Others, like "user" will be specific to a UserService in which it will have methods like Login, Logout, etc. So basically, the token will be used to determine which service is needed AND if it is generic service, that token will be passed to that service. Maybe token isn't the correct terminology but I hope you get the purpose. I wanted to use the factory so I can easily swap out which Service I need in case my needs change. I just worry that after the site grows larger (both pages and functionality) that the factory will become rather bloated. But I'm starting to feel like I just can't get away from storing the mappings in an array (like Stephen's solution). That just doesn't feel OOP to me and I was hoping to find something more elegant.

  • MasterDetails Loading on Demand problem

    - by devnet247
    Hi As an exercise to learn wpf and understand how binding works I have an example that works.However when I try to load on demand I fail miserably. I basically have 3 classes Country-City-Hotels If I load ALL in one go it all works if I load on demand it fails miserably. What Am I doing wrong? Works <Window x:Class="MasterDetailCollectionViewSource.CountryCityHotelWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="CountryCityHotelWindow" Height="300" Width="450"> <Window.Resources> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding}" x:Key="cvsCountryList"/> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCountryList},Path=Cities}" x:Key="cvsCityList"/> <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCityList},Path=Hotels}" x:Key="cvsHotelList"/> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="0" Text="Countries"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="0" Text="Cities"/> <TextBlock Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="0" Text="Hotels"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstCountries" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCountryList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstCities" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsCityList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> <ListBox Grid.Column="2" Grid.Row="1" Name="lstHotels" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource cvsHotelList}}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectionChanged="OnSelectionChanged"/> </Grid> </Window> DOES NOT WORK Xaml is the same as above, however I have added the following that fetches stuff on demand. It loads the countries only as opposed to the other one where it Loads everything at once and not code behind is necessary. public CountryCityHotelWindow() { InitializeComponent(); //Load only country Initially lstCountries.ItemsSource=Repository.GetCountries(); DataContext = lstCountries; } private void OnSelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { var lstBox = (ListBox)e.OriginalSource; switch (lstBox.Name) { case "lstCountries": var country = lstBox.SelectedItem as Country; if (country == null) return; lstCities.ItemsSource = Repository.GetCities(country.Name); break; case "lstCities": var city = lstBox.SelectedItem as City; if (city == null) return; lstHotels.ItemsSource = Repository.GetHotels(city.Name); break; case "lstHotels": break; } } What Am I doing Wrong? Thanks

  • How to map code points to unicode characters depending on the font used?

    - by Alex Schröder
    The client prints labels and has been using a set of symbolic (?) fonts to do this. The application uses a single byte database (Oracle with Latin-1). The old application I am replacing was not Unicode aware. It somehow did OK. The replacement application I am writing is supposed to handle the old data. The symbols picked from the charmap application often map to particular Unicode characters, but sometimes they don't. What looks like the Moon using the LAB3 font, for example, is in fact U+2014 (EM DASH). When users paste this character into a Swing text field, the character has the code point 8212. It was "moved" into the Private Use Area (by Windows? Java?). When saving this character to the database, Oracle decides that it cannot be safely encoded and replaces it with the dreaded ¿. Thus, I started shifting the characters by 8000: -= 8000 when saving, += 8000 when displaying the field. Unfortunately I discovered that other characters were not shifted by the same amount. In one particular font, for example, ž has the code point 382, so I shifted it by +/-256 to "fix" it. By now I'm dreading the discovery of more strange offsets and I wonder: Can I get at this mapping using Java? Perhaps the TTF font has a list of the 255 glyphs it encodes and what Unicode characters those correspond to and I can do it "right"? Right now I'm using the following kludge: static String fromDatabase(String str, String fontFamily) { if (str != null && fontFamily != null) { Font font = new Font(fontFamily, Font.PLAIN, 1); boolean changed = false; char[] chars = str.toCharArray(); for (int i = 0; i < chars.length; i++) { if (font.canDisplay(chars[i] + 0xF000)) { // WE8MSWIN1252 + WinXP chars[i] += 0xF000; changed = true; } else if (chars[i] >= 128 && font.canDisplay(chars[i] + 8000)) { // WE8ISO8859P1 + WinXP chars[i] += 8000; changed = true; } else if (font.canDisplay(chars[i] + 256)) { // ž in LAB1 Eastern = 382 chars[i] += 256; changed = true; } } if (changed) str = new String(chars); } return str; } static String toDatabase(String str, String fontFamily) { if (str != null && fontFamily != null) { boolean changed = false; char[] chars = str.toCharArray(); for (int i = 0; i < chars.length; i++) { int chr = chars[i]; if (chars[i] > 0xF000) { // WE8MSWIN1252 + WinXP chars[i] -= 0xF000; changed = true; } else if (chars[i] > 8000) { // WE8ISO8859P1 + WinXP chars[i] = (char) (chars[i] - 8000); changed = true; } else if (chars[i] > 256) { // ž in LAB1 Eastern = 382 chars[i] = (char) (chars[i] - 256); changed = true; } } if (changed) return new String(chars); } return str; }

  • Trying to sentinel loop this program. [java]

    - by roger34
    Okay, I spent all this time making this for class but I have one thing that I can't quite get: I need this to sentinel loop continuously (exiting upon entering x) so that the System.out.println("What type of Employee? Enter 'o' for Office " + "Clerical, 'f' for Factory, or 's' for Saleperson. Enter 'x' to exit." ); line comes back up after they enter the first round of information. Also, I can't leave this up long on the (very) off chance a classmate might see this and steal the code. Full code following: import java.util.Scanner; public class Project1 { public static void main (String args[]){ Scanner inp = new Scanner( System.in ); double totalPay; System.out.println("What type of Employee? Enter 'o' for Office " + "Clerical, 'f' for Factory, or 's' for Saleperson. Enter 'x' to exit." ); String response= inp.nextLine(); while (!response.toLowerCase().equals("o")&&!response.toLowerCase().equals("f") &&!response.toLowerCase().equals("s")&&!response.toLowerCase().equals("x")){ System.out.print("\nInvalid selection,please enter your choice again:\n"); response=inp.nextLine(); } char choice = response.toLowerCase().charAt( 0 ); switch (choice){ case 'o': System.out.println("Enter your hourly rate:"); double officeRate=inp.nextDouble(); System.out.println("Enter the number of hours worked:"); double officeHours=inp.nextDouble(); totalPay = officeCalc(officeRate,officeHours); taxCalc(totalPay); break; case 'f': System.out.println("How many Widgets did you produce during the week?"); double widgets=inp.nextDouble(); totalPay=factoryCalc(widgets); taxCalc(totalPay); break; case 's': System.out.println("What were your total sales for the week?"); double totalSales=inp.nextDouble(); totalPay=salesCalc(totalSales); taxCalc(totalPay); break; } } public static double taxCalc(double totalPay){ double federal=totalPay*.22; double state =totalPay*.055; double netPay = totalPay - federal - state; federal =federal*Math.pow(10,2); federal =Math.round(federal); federal= federal/Math.pow(10,2); state =state*Math.pow(10,2); state =Math.round(state); state= state/Math.pow(10,2); totalPay =totalPay*Math.pow(10,2); totalPay =Math.round(totalPay); totalPay= totalPay/Math.pow(10,2); netPay =netPay*Math.pow(10,2); netPay =Math.round(netPay); netPay= netPay/Math.pow(10,2); System.out.printf("\nTotal Pay \t: %1$.2f.\n", totalPay); System.out.printf("State W/H \t: %1$.2f.\n", state); System.out.printf("Federal W/H : %1$.2f.\n", federal); System.out.printf("Net Pay \t: %1$.2f.\n", netPay); return totalPay; } public static double officeCalc(double officeRate,double officeHours){ double overtime=0; if (officeHours>=40) overtime = officeHours-40; else overtime = 0; if (officeHours >= 40) officeHours = 40; double otRate = officeRate * 1.5; double totalPay= (officeRate * officeHours) + (otRate*overtime); return totalPay; } public static double factoryCalc(double widgets){ double totalPay=widgets*.35 +300; return totalPay; } public static double salesCalc(double totalSales){ double totalPay = totalSales * .05 + 500; return totalPay; } }

  • gluCylinder() how works OpenGL

    - by amin__
    I wanted to build a cricket ground with OpenGL. I made several polygons to indicate field, pitch and bowling lines. But the problem is when I am trying to use gluCylinder to make stumps I made depth glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST), but my polygons are then not working. I just want to know how Can I use gluCylinder to make stumps with those polygons I have made. I have following code, but want to add stumps here but I cant, #include <GL/gl.h> #include <GL/glut.h> static double deg=0.0; void display(void) { glClear (GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); glRotatef(deg, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0); // Rotate by deg // field glColor3f (0.0, 0.5, 0.0); glBegin(GL_POLYGON); glVertex3f (0, 0, 0.0); glVertex3f (1, 0, 0.0); glVertex3f (1, 0.75, 0.0); glVertex3f (0.8, 0.82, 0.0); glVertex3f (0.6, 0.85, 0.0); glVertex3f (0.4, 0.85, 0.0); glVertex3f (0.2, 0.82, 0.0); glVertex3f (0.0, 0.75, 0.0); glEnd(); // pitch glColor3f (0.25, 0.30, 0.0); glBegin(GL_POLYGON); glVertex3f(0.5,0.65,0.0); glVertex3f(0.47,0.35,0.0); glVertex3f(0.60,0.35,0.0); glVertex3f(0.57,0.65,0.0); glEnd(); //ump line glColor3f (1.0, 1.0, 1.0); glBegin(GL_POLYGON); glVertex3f(0.49,0.63,0.0); glVertex3f(0.49,0.6315,0.0); glVertex3f(0.58,0.6315,0.0); glVertex3f(0.58,0.63,0.0); glEnd(); //bat line glColor3f (1.0, 1.0, 1.0); glBegin(GL_POLYGON); glVertex3f(0.46,0.40,0.0); glVertex3f(0.46,0.4025,0.0); glVertex3f(0.61,0.4025,0.0); glVertex3f(0.61,0.40,0.0); glEnd(); glFlush (); } void init (void) { glClearColor (0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0); glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); glLoadIdentity(); glOrtho(0.0, 1.0, 0.0, 1.0, -1.0, 1.0); } void keyboard(unsigned char key, int x, int y) { switch (key) { case 27: // "esc" on keyboard exit(0); break; case 97: // "a" on keyboard deg = deg+5.0; glutPostRedisplay(); break; case 100: deg = deg-5.0; glutPostRedisplay(); break; } } int main(int argc, char** argv) { glutInit(&argc, argv); glutInitDisplayMode (GLUT_SINGLE | GLUT_RGB); glutInitWindowSize (600, 600); glutInitWindowPosition (100, 100); glutCreateWindow ("hello"); init (); glutDisplayFunc(display); glutKeyboardFunc(keyboard); glutMainLoop(); return 0; }

  • When I try to redefine a variable, I get an index out of bounds error

    - by user2770254
    I'm building a program to act as a calculator with memory, so you can give variables and their values. Whenever I'm trying to redefine a variable, a = 5, to a = 6, I get an index out of bounds error. public static void main(String args[]) { LinkedHashMap<String,Integer> map = new LinkedHashMap<String,Integer>(); Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); ArrayList<Integer> values = new ArrayList<>(); ArrayList<String> variables = new ArrayList<>(); while(scan.hasNextLine()) { String line = scan.nextLine(); String[] tokens = line.split(" "); if(!Character.isDigit(tokens[0].charAt(0)) && !line.equals("clear") && !line.equals("var")) { int value = 0; for(int i=0; i<tokens.length; i++) { if(tokens.length==3) { value = Integer.parseInt(tokens[2]); System.out.printf("%5d\n",value); if(map.containsKey(tokens[0])) { values.set(values.indexOf(tokens[0]), value); variables.set(variables.indexOf(tokens[0]), tokens[0]); } else { values.add(value); } break; } else if(tokens[i].charAt(0) == '+') { value = addition(tokens, value); System.out.printf("%5d\n",value); variables.add(tokens[0]); if(map.containsKey(tokens[0])) { values.set(values.indexOf(tokens[0]), value); variables.set(variables.indexOf(tokens[0]), tokens[0]); } else { values.add(value); } break; } else if(i==tokens.length-1 && tokens.length != 3) { System.out.println("No operation"); break; } } map.put(tokens[0], value); } if(Character.isDigit(tokens[0].charAt(0))) { int value = 0; if(tokens.length==1) { System.out.printf("%5s\n", tokens[0]); } else { value = addition(tokens, value); System.out.printf("%5d\n", value); } } if(line.equals("clear")) { clear(map); } if(line.equals("var")) { variableList(variables, values); } } } public static int addition(String[] a, int b) { for(String item : a) { if(Character.isDigit(item.charAt(0))) { int add = Integer.parseInt(item); b = b + add; } } return b; } public static void clear(LinkedHashMap<String,Integer> b) { b.clear(); } public static void variableList(ArrayList<String> a, ArrayList<Integer> b) { for(int i=0; i<a.size(); i++) { System.out.printf("%5s: %d\n", a.get(i), b.get(i)); } } I included the whole code because I'm not sure where the error is arising from.

  • Setting a DataGrid background color based on the previous row

    - by Zipper
    I'm trying to setup a grid where I do column sorting, but I wanted to do zebra striping, only rather than every other row or every x rows, I want it to be based on the value of cells. i.e. All cells that contain 0 have a blue background, the next value would have a white background, the next value would be blue, etc.... The problem I have is that I can't seem to find where to actually do the setting of the background colors. I'm using a custom sorter and I tried setting it in there after I re-order the list and set the data source, but it appears that when the data source is set, that the rows don't exist yet. I tried using the DataContextChanged, but that event doesn't seem to be firing. Here is what I have now. namespace Foo.Bar { public partial class FooBar { List<Bla> ResultList { get; set; } SolidColorBrush stripeOneColor = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Gold); SolidColorBrush stripeTwoColor = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.White); //********************************************************************************************* public Consistency() { InitializeComponent(); } //********************************************************************************************* override protected void PopulateTabWithData() { ResultList = GetBlas(); SortAndGroup("Source"); } //********************************************************************************************* private void SortAndGroup(string colName) { IOrderedEnumerable <Bla> ordered = null; switch (colName) { case "Source": case "ID": ordered = ResultList.OrderBy(r => r.Source).ThenBy(r => r.ID); break; case "Name": ordered = ResultList.OrderBy(r => r.Source).ThenBy(r => r.Name); break; case "Message": ordered = ResultList.OrderBy(r => r.Message); break; default: throw new Exception(colName); } ResultList = ordered.ThenBy(r => r.Source).ThenBy(r => r.ID).ToList(); // tie-breakers consistencyDataGrid.ItemsSource = null; consistencyDataGrid.ItemsSource = ResultList; ColorRows(); } //********************************************************************************************* private void consistencyDataGrid_Sorting(object sender, System.Windows.Controls.DataGridSortingEventArgs e) { SortAndGroup(e.Column.Header.ToString()); e.Handled = true; } private void ColorRows() { for (var i = 0; i < ResultList.Count; i++) { var currentItem = ResultList[i]; var row = myDataGrid.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem(currentItem) as DataGridRow; if (row == null) { continue; } if (i > 0) { var previousItem = ResultList[i - 1]; var previousRow = myDataGrid.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem(previousItem) as DataGridRow; if (currentItem.Source == previousItem.Source) { row.Background = previousRow.Background; } else { if (previousRow.Background == stripeOneColor) { row.Background = stripeTwoColor; } else { row.Background = stripeOneColor; } } } else { row.Background = stripeOneColor; } } } } } }

  • can't able to integrate base64decode in my class

    - by MaheshBabu
    Hi folks, i am getting the image that is in base64 encoded format. I need to decode it. i am writing the code for decoding is + (NSData *) base64DataFromString: (NSString *)string { unsigned long ixtext, lentext; unsigned char ch, input[4], output[3]; short i, ixinput; Boolean flignore, flendtext = false; const char *temporary; NSMutableData *result; if (!string) return [NSData data]; ixtext = 0; temporary = [string UTF8String]; lentext = [string length]; result = [NSMutableData dataWithCapacity: lentext]; ixinput = 0; while (true) { if (ixtext >= lentext) break; ch = temporary[ixtext++]; flignore = false; if ((ch >= 'A') && (ch <= 'Z')) ch = ch - 'A'; else if ((ch >= 'a') && (ch <= 'z')) ch = ch - 'a' + 26; else if ((ch >= '0') && (ch <= '9')) ch = ch - '0' + 52; else if (ch == '+') ch = 62; else if (ch == '=') flendtext = true; else if (ch == '/') ch = 63; else flignore = true; if (!flignore) { short ctcharsinput = 3; Boolean flbreak = false; if (flendtext) { if (ixinput == 0) break; if ((ixinput == 1) || (ixinput == 2)) { ctcharsinput = 1; else ctcharsinput = 2; ixinput = 3; flbreak = true; } input[ixinput++] = ch; if (ixinput == 4) ixinput = 0; output[0] = (input[0] << 2) | ((input[1] & 0x30) >> 4); output[1] = ((input[1] & 0x0F) << 4) | ((input[2] & 0x3C) >> 2); output[2] = ((input[2] & 0x03) << 6) | (input[3] & 0x3F); for (i = 0; i < ctcharsinput; i++) [result appendBytes: &output[i] length: 1]; } if (flbreak) break; } return result; } i am calling this in my method like this NSData *data = [base64DataFromString:theXML]; theXML is encoded data. but it shows error decodeBase64 undeclared.   • javascript won't execute nested for loop

    - by mcdwight6
    thanks in advance for all your help! i'm fairly new to javascript, but i have a fairly strong background in java, so i thought i would try it out on this project i'm working on. essentially, what i'm trying to do is read data from an xml file and create the html code for the page i'm making. i used the script from w3schools found here. I've altered it and gotten it to pull the data from my own xml and even to do the more basic generation of the html code i need. Here's the html i'm using inside <script> tags: var s = swDoc.getElementsByTagName("planet"); var plShowsArr = s[i].getElementsByTagName("show"); var plGamesArr = s[i].getElementsByTagName("videoGame"); for (i=0;i<s.length;i++) { // test section all works document.write("<div><table border = \"1\">"); document.write("<tr><td>"+ s[i].getElementsByTagName("showText")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "</td><td>" + s[i].getElementsByTagName("showUrl")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "</td></tr>"); document.write("<tr><td>" + s[i].getElementsByTagName("gameText")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "</td><td>" + s[i].getElementsByTagName("gameUrl")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "</td></tr>"); document.write("</tr></table></div>"); // end test section document.write("<div class=\"appearances-row\"><ol class=\"shows\">shows list"); for(j=0;j<plShows.length;j++){ document.write("nested for"); var showUrl = s[i].getElementsByTagName("showUrl")[j].childNodes[0].nodeValue; var showText = s[i].getElementByTagName("showText")[j].childNodes[0].nodeValue; document.write("<li><a href=\""+showUrl+"\">"+showText+"</a></li>"); } the code breaks at the nested for loop at the end, where it finished the document.write and prints "shows list" to the page, but then never gets to the document.write inside. if it helps, the xml contains a list of planets from the star wars universe organized like this: <planets> <planet> <planetName>planet</planetName> <description>some text</description> <appearances> <show> <showUrl>url</showUrl> <showText>hyperlink text</showText> </show> <videoGame> <gameUrl>url</gameUrl> <gameText>hyperlink text</gameText> </videoGame> </appearances> <locationsOfInterest> <location>location name</location> </locationsOfInterest> <famousCharactersRelatedTo> <character>a character</character> </famousCharactersRelatedTo> <externalLinks> <link> <linkUrl>url</linkUrl> <linkText>hyperlink text</linkText> </link> </externalLinks> </planet>

I have tried searching everywhere for info on how to do this and tried everything but I just cant get it. After several days of this giving me headaches I really hope some one can enlighten me.

  • Reflector error or optimisation?

    - by David_001
    Long story short: I used reflector on the System.Security.Util.Tokenizer class, and there's loads of goto statements in there. Here's a brief example snippet: Label_0026: if (this._inSavedCharacter != -1) { num = this._inSavedCharacter; this._inSavedCharacter = -1; } else { switch (this._inTokenSource) { case TokenSource.UnicodeByteArray: if ((this._inIndex + 1) < this._inSize) { break; } stream.AddToken(-1); return; case TokenSource.UTF8ByteArray: if (this._inIndex < this._inSize) { goto Label_00CF; } stream.AddToken(-1); return; case TokenSource.ASCIIByteArray: if (this._inIndex < this._inSize) { goto Label_023C; } stream.AddToken(-1); return; case TokenSource.CharArray: if (this._inIndex < this._inSize) { goto Label_0272; } stream.AddToken(-1); return; case TokenSource.String: if (this._inIndex < this._inSize) { goto Label_02A8; } stream.AddToken(-1); return; case TokenSource.NestedStrings: if (this._inNestedSize == 0) { goto Label_030D; } if (this._inNestedIndex >= this._inNestedSize) { goto Label_0306; } num = this._inNestedString[this._inNestedIndex++]; goto Label_0402; default: num = this._inTokenReader.Read(); if (num == -1) { stream.AddToken(-1); return; } goto Label_0402; } num = (this._inBytes[this._inIndex + 1] << 8) + this._inBytes[this._inIndex]; this._inIndex += 2; } goto Label_0402; Label_00CF: num = this._inBytes[this._inIndex++]; if ((num & 0x80) != 0) { switch (((num & 240) >> 4)) { case 8: case 9: case 10: case 11: throw new XmlSyntaxException(this.LineNo); case 12: case 13: num &= 0x1f; num3 = 2; break; case 14: num &= 15; num3 = 3; break; case 15: throw new XmlSyntaxException(this.LineNo); } if (this._inIndex >= this._inSize) { throw new XmlSyntaxException(this.LineNo, Environment.GetResourceString("XMLSyntax_UnexpectedEndOfFile")); } byte num2 = this._inBytes[this._inIndex++]; if ((num2 & 0xc0) != 0x80) { throw new XmlSyntaxException(this.LineNo); } num = (num << 6) | (num2 & 0x3f); if (num3 != 2) { if (this._inIndex >= this._inSize) { throw new XmlSyntaxException(this.LineNo, Environment.GetResourceString("XMLSyntax_UnexpectedEndOfFile")); } num2 = this._inBytes[this._inIndex++]; if ((num2 & 0xc0) != 0x80) { throw new XmlSyntaxException(this.LineNo); } num = (num << 6) | (num2 & 0x3f); } } goto Label_0402; Label_023C: num = this._inBytes[this._inIndex++]; goto Label_0402; Label_0272: num = this._inChars[this._inIndex++]; goto Label_0402; Label_02A8: num = this._inString[this._inIndex++]; goto Label_0402; Label_0306: this._inNestedSize = 0; I essentially wanted to know how the class worked, but the number of goto's makes it impossible. Arguably something like a Tokenizer class needs to be heavily optimised, so my question is: is Reflector getting it wrong, or is goto an optimisation for this class?

  • Building and Deploying Windows Azure Web Sites using Git and GitHub for Windows

    - by shiju
    Microsoft Windows Azure team has released a new version of Windows Azure which is providing many excellent features. The new Windows Azure provides Web Sites which allows you to deploy up to 10 web sites  for free in a multitenant shared environment and you can easily upgrade this web site to a private, dedicated virtual server when the traffic is grows. The Meet Windows Azure Fact Sheet provides the following information about a Windows Azure Web Site: Windows Azure Web Sites enable developers to easily build and deploy websites with support for multiple frameworks and popular open source applications, including ASP.NET, PHP and Node.js. With just a few clicks, developers can take advantage of Windows Azure’s global scale without having to worry about operations, servers or infrastructure. It is easy to deploy existing sites, if they run on Internet Information Services (IIS) 7, or to build new sites, with a free offer of 10 websites upon signup, with the ability to scale up as needed with reserved instances. Windows Azure Web Sites includes support for the following: Multiple frameworks including ASP.NET, PHP and Node.js Popular open source software apps including WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal, Umbraco and DotNetNuke Windows Azure SQL Database and MySQL databases Multiple types of developer tools and protocols including Visual Studio, Git, FTP, Visual Studio Team Foundation Services and Microsoft WebMatrix Signup to Windows and Enable Azure Web Sites You can signup for a 90 days free trial account in Windows Azure from here. After creating an account in Windows Azure, go to https://account.windowsazure.com/ , and select to preview features to view the available previews. In the Web Sites section of the preview features, click “try it now” which will enables the web sites feature Create Web Site in Windows Azure To create a web sites, login to the Windows Azure portal, and select Web Sites from and click New icon from the left corner  Click WEB SITE, QUICK CREATE and put values for URL and REGION dropdown. You can see the all web sites from the dashboard of the Windows Azure portal Set up Git Publishing Select your web site from the dashboard, and select Set up Git publishing To enable Git publishing , you must give user name and password which will initialize a Git repository Clone Git Repository We can use GitHub for Windows to publish apps to non-GitHub repositories which is well explained by Phil Haack on his blog post. Here we are going to deploy the web site using GitHub for Windows. Let’s clone a Git repository using the Git Url which will be getting from the Windows Azure portal. Let’s copy the Git url and execute the “git clone” with the git url. You can use the Git Shell provided by GitHub for Windows. To get it, right on the GitHub for Windows, and select open shell here as shown in the below picture. When executing the Git Clone command, it will ask for a password where you have to give password which specified in the Windows Azure portal. After cloning the GIT repository, you can drag and drop the local Git repository folder to GitHub for Windows GUI. This will automatically add the Windows Azure Web Site repository onto GitHub for Windows where you can commit your changes and publish your web sites to Windows Azure. Publish the Web Site using GitHub for Windows We can add multiple framework level files including ASP.NET, PHP and Node.js, to the local repository folder can easily publish to Windows Azure from GitHub for Windows GUI. For this demo, let me just add a simple Node.js file named Server.js which handles few request handlers. 1: var http = require('http'); 2: var port=process.env.PORT; 3: var querystring = require('querystring'); 4: var utils = require('util'); 5: var url = require("url"); 6:   7: var server = http.createServer(function(req, res) { 8: switch (req.url) { //checking the request url 9: case '/': 10: homePageHandler (req, res); //handler for home page 11: break; 12: case '/register': 13: registerFormHandler (req, res);//hamdler for register 14: break; 15: default: 16: nofoundHandler (req, res);// handler for 404 not found 17: break; 18: } 19: }); 20: server.listen(port); 21: //function to display the html form 22: function homePageHandler (req, res) { 23: console.log('Request handler home was called.'); 24: res.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); 25: var body = '<html>'+ 26: '<head>'+ 27: '<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; '+ 28: 'charset=UTF-8" />'+ 29: '</head>'+ 30: '<body>'+ 31: '<form action="/register" method="post">'+ 32: 'Name:<input type=text value="" name="name" size=15></br>'+ 33: 'Email:<input type=text value="" name="email" size=15></br>'+ 34: '<input type="submit" value="Submit" />'+ 35: '</form>'+ 36: '</body>'+ 37: '</html>'; 38: //response content 39: res.end(body); 40: } 41: //handler for Post request 42: function registerFormHandler (req, res) { 43: console.log('Request handler register was called.'); 44: var pathname = url.parse(req.url).pathname; 45: console.log("Request for " + pathname + " received."); 46: var postData = ""; 47: req.on('data', function(chunk) { 48: // append the current chunk of data to the postData variable 49: postData += chunk.toString(); 50: }); 51: req.on('end', function() { 52: // doing something with the posted data 53: res.writeHead(200, "OK", {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); 54: // parse the posted data 55: var decodedBody = querystring.parse(postData); 56: // output the decoded data to the HTTP response 57: res.write('<html><head><title>Post data</title></head><body><pre>'); 58: res.write(utils.inspect(decodedBody)); 59: res.write('</pre></body></html>'); 60: res.end(); 61: }); 62: } 63: //Error handler for 404 no found 64: function nofoundHandler(req, res) { 65: console.log('Request handler nofound was called.'); 66: res.writeHead(404, {'Content-Type': 'text/plain'}); 67: res.end('404 Error - Request handler not found'); 68: } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } If there is any change in the local repository folder, GitHub for Windows will automatically detect the changes. In the above step, we have just added a Server.js file so that GitHub for Windows will detect the changes. Let’s commit the changes to the local repository before publishing the web site to Windows Azure. After committed the all changes, you can click publish button which will publish the all changes to Windows Azure repository. The following screen shot shows deployment history from the Windows Azure portal.   GitHub for Windows is providing a sync button which can use for synchronizing between local repository and Windows Azure repository after making any commit on the local repository after any changes. • SQL SERVER – Import CSV into Database – Transferring File Content into a Database Table using CSVexpress

    - by pinaldave
    One of the most common data integration tasks I run into is a desire to move data from a file into a database table.  Generally the user is familiar with his data, the structure of the file, and the database table, but is unfamiliar with data integration tools and therefore views this task as something that is difficult.  What these users really need is a point and click approach that minimizes the learning curve for the data integration tool.  This is what CSVexpress (www.CSVexpress.com) is all about!  It is based on expressor Studio, a data integration tool I’ve been reviewing over the last several months. With CSVexpress, moving data between data sources can be as simple as providing the database connection details, describing the structure of the incoming and outgoing data and then connecting two pre-programmed operators.   There’s no need to learn the intricacies of the data integration tool or to write code.  Let’s look at an example. Suppose I have a comma separated value data file with data similar to the following, which is a listing of terminated employees that includes their hiring and termination date, department, job description, and final salary. EMP_ID,STRT_DATE,END_DATE,JOB_ID,DEPT_ID,SALARY 102,13-JAN-93,24-JUL-98 17:00,Programmer,60,"$85,000" 101,21-SEP-89,27-OCT-93 17:00,Account Representative,110,"$65,000" 103,28-OCT-93,15-MAR-97 17:00,Account Manager,110,"$75,000" 304,17-FEB-96,19-DEC-99 17:00,Marketing,20,"$45,000" 333,24-MAR-98,31-DEC-99 17:00,Data Entry Clerk,50,"$35,000" 100,17-SEP-87,17-JUN-93 17:00,Administrative Assistant,90,"$40,000" 334,24-MAR-98,31-DEC-98 17:00,Sales Representative,80,"$40,000" 400,01-JAN-99,31-DEC-99 17:00,Sales Manager,80,"$55,000" Notice the concise format used for the date values, the fact that the termination date includes both date and time information, and that the salary is clearly identified as money by the dollar sign and digit grouping.  In moving this data to a database table I want to express the dates using a format that includes the century since it’s obvious that this listing could include employees who left the company in both the 20th and 21st centuries, and I want the salary to be stored as a decimal value without the currency symbol and grouping character.  Most data integration tools would require coding within a transformation operation to effect these changes, but not expressor Studio.  Directives for these modifications are included in the description of the incoming data. Besides starting the expressor Studio tool and opening a project, the first step is to create connection artifacts, which describe to expressor where data is stored.  For this example, two connection artifacts are required: a file connection, which encapsulates the file system location of my file; and a database connection, which encapsulates the database connection information.  With expressor Studio, I use wizards to create these artifacts. First click New Connection > File Connection in the Home tab of expressor Studio’s ribbon bar, which starts the File Connection wizard.  In the first window, I enter the path to the directory that contains the input file.  Note that the file connection artifact only specifies the file system location, not the name of the file. Then I click Next and enter a meaningful name for this connection artifact; clicking Finish closes the wizard and saves the artifact. To create the Database Connection artifact, I must know the location of, or instance name, of the target database and have the credentials of an account with sufficient privileges to write to the target table.  To use expressor Studio’s features to the fullest, this account should also have the authority to create a table. I click the New Connection > Database Connection in the Home tab of expressor Studio’s ribbon bar, which starts the Database Connection wizard.  expressor Studio includes high-performance drivers for many relational database management systems, so I can simply make a selection from the “Supplied database drivers” drop down control.  If my desired RDBMS isn’t listed, I can optionally use an existing ODBC DSN by selecting the “Existing DSN” radio button. In the following window, I enter the connection details.  With Microsoft SQL Server, I may choose to use Windows Authentication rather than rather than account credentials.  After clicking Next, I enter a meaningful name for this connection artifact and clicking Finish closes the wizard and saves the artifact. Now I create a schema artifact, which describes the structure of the file data.  When expressor reads a file, all data fields are typed as strings.  In some use cases this may be exactly what is needed and there is no need to edit the schema artifact.  But in this example, editing the schema artifact will be used to specify how the data should be transformed; that is, reformat the dates to include century designations, change the employee and job ID’s to integers, and convert the salary to a decimal value. Again a wizard is used to create the schema artifact.  I click New Schema > Delimited Schema in the Home tab of expressor Studio’s ribbon bar, which starts the Database Connection wizard.  In the first window, I click Get Data from File, which then displays a listing of the file connections in the project.  When I click on the file connection I previously created, a browse window opens to this file system location; I then select the file and click Open, which imports 10 lines from the file into the wizard. I now view the file’s content and confirm that the appropriate delimiter characters are selected in the “Field Delimiter” and “Record Delimiter” drop down controls; then I click Next. Since the input file includes a header row, I can easily indicate that fields in the file should be identified through the corresponding header value by clicking “Set All Names from Selected Row. “ Alternatively, I could enter a different identifier into the Field Details > Name text box.  I click Next and enter a meaningful name for this schema artifact; clicking Finish closes the wizard and saves the artifact. Now I open the schema artifact in the schema editor.  When I first view the schema’s content, I note that the types of all attributes in the Semantic Type (the right-hand panel) are strings and that the attribute names are the same as the field names in the data file.  To change an attribute’s name and type, I highlight the attribute and click Edit in the Attributes grouping on the Schema > Edit tab of the editor’s ribbon bar.  This opens the Edit Attribute window; I can change the attribute name and select the desired type from the “Data type” drop down control.  In this example, I change the name of each attribute to the name of the corresponding database table column (EmployeeID, StartingDate, TerminationDate, JobDescription, DepartmentID, and FinalSalary).  Then for the EmployeeID and DepartmentID attributes, I select Integer as the data type, for the StartingDate and TerminationDate attributes, I select Datetime as the data type, and for the FinalSalary attribute, I select the Decimal type. But I can do much more in the schema editor.  For the datetime attributes, I can set a constraint that ensures that the data adheres to some predetermined specifications; a starting date must be later than January 1, 1980 (the date on which the company began operations) and a termination date must be earlier than 11:59 PM on December 31, 1999.  I simply select the appropriate constraint and enter the value (1980-01-01 00:00 as the starting date and 1999-12-31 11:59 as the termination date). As a last step in setting up these datetime conversions, I edit the mapping, describing the format of each datetime type in the source file. I highlight the mapping line for the StartingDate attribute and click Edit Mapping in the Mappings grouping on the Schema > Edit tab of the editor’s ribbon bar.  This opens the Edit Mapping window in which I either enter, or select, a format that describes how the datetime values are represented in the file.  Note the use of Y01 as the syntax for the year.  This syntax is the indicator to expressor Studio to derive the century by setting any year later than 01 to the 20th century and any year before 01 to the 21st century.  As each datetime value is read from the file, the year values are transformed into century and year values. For the TerminationDate attribute, my format also indicates that the datetime value includes hours and minutes. And now to the Salary attribute. I open its mapping and in the Edit Mapping window select the Currency tab and the “Use currency” check box.  This indicates that the file data will include the dollar sign (or in Europe the Pound or Euro sign), which should be removed. And on the Grouping tab, I select the “Use grouping” checkbox and enter 3 into the “Group size” text box, a comma into the “Grouping character” text box, and a decimal point into the “Decimal separator” character text box. These entries allow the string to be properly converted into a decimal value. By making these entries into the schema that describes my input file, I’ve specified how I want the data transformed prior to writing to the database table and completely removed the requirement for coding within the data integration application itself. Assembling the data integration application is simple.  Onto the canvas I drag the Read File and Write Table operators, connecting the output of the Read File operator to the input of the Write Table operator. Next, I select the Read File operator and its Properties panel opens on the right-hand side of expressor Studio.  For each property, I can select an appropriate entry from the corresponding drop down control.  Clicking on the button to the right of the “File name” text box opens the file system location specified in the file connection artifact, allowing me to select the appropriate input file.  I indicate also that the first row in the file, the header row, should be skipped, and that any record that fails one of the datetime constraints should be skipped. I then select the Write Table operator and in its Properties panel specify the database connection, normal for the “Mode,” and the “Truncate” and “Create Missing Table” options.  If my target table does not yet exist, expressor will create the table using the information encapsulated in the schema artifact assigned to the operator. The last task needed to complete the application is to create the schema artifact used by the Write Table operator.  This is extremely easy as another wizard is capable of using the schema artifact assigned to the Read Table operator to create a schema artifact for the Write Table operator.  In the Write Table Properties panel, I click the drop down control to the right of the “Schema” property and select “New Table Schema from Upstream Output…” from the drop down menu. The wizard first displays the table description and in its second screen asks me to select the database connection artifact that specifies the RDBMS in which the target table will exist.  The wizard then connects to the RDBMS and retrieves a list of database schemas from which I make a selection.  The fourth screen gives me the opportunity to fine tune the table’s description.  In this example, I set the width of the JobDescription column to a maximum of 40 characters and select money as the type of the LastSalary column.  I also provide the name for the table. This completes development of the application.  The entire application was created through the use of wizards and the required data transformations specified through simple constraints and specifications rather than through coding.  To develop this application, I only needed a basic understanding of expressor Studio, a level of expertise that can be gained by working through a few introductory tutorials.  expressor Studio is as close to a point and click data integration tool as one could want and I urge you to try this product if you have a need to move data between files or from files to database tables. Check out CSVexpress in more detail.  It offers a few basic video tutorials and a preview of expressor Studio 3.5, which will support the reading and writing of data into Salesforce.com. • Maintaining State in Mud Engine

    - by Johnathon Sullinger
    I am currently working on a Mud Engine and have started implementing my state engine. One of the things that has me troubled is maintaining different states at once. For instance, lets say that the user has started a tutorial, which requires specific input. If the user types "help" I want to switch in to a help state, so they can get the help they need, then return them to the original state once exiting the help. my state system uses a State Manager to manage the state per user: public class StateManager { /// <summary> /// Gets the current state. /// </summary> public IState CurrentState { get; private set; } /// <summary> /// Gets the states available for use. /// </summary> /// <value> public List<IState> States { get; private set; } /// <summary> /// Gets the commands available. /// </summary> public List<ICommand> Commands { get; private set; } /// <summary> /// Gets the mob that this manager controls the state of. /// </summary> public IMob Mob { get; private set; } public void Initialize(IMob mob, IState initialState = null) { this.Mob = mob; if (initialState != null) { this.SwitchState(initialState); } } /// <summary> /// Performs the command. /// </summary> /// <param name="message">The message.</param> public void PerformCommand(IMessage message) { if (this.CurrentState != null) { ICommand command = this.CurrentState.GetCommand(message); if (command is NoOpCommand) { // NoOperation commands indicate that the current state is not finished yet. this.CurrentState.Render(this.Mob); } else if (command != null) { command.Execute(this.Mob); } else if (command == null) { new InvalidCommand().Execute(this.Mob); } } } /// <summary> /// Switches the state. /// </summary> /// <param name="state">The state.</param> public void SwitchState(IState state) { if (this.CurrentState != null) { this.CurrentState.Cleanup(); } this.CurrentState = state; if (state != null) { this.CurrentState.Render(this.Mob); } } } Each of the different states that the user can be in, is a Type implementing IState. public interface IState { /// <summary> /// Renders the current state to the players terminal. /// </summary> /// <param name="player">The player to render to</param> void Render(IMob mob); /// <summary> /// Gets the Command that the player entered and preps it for execution. /// </summary> /// <returns></returns> ICommand GetCommand(IMessage command); /// <summary> /// Cleanups this instance during a state change. /// </summary> void Cleanup(); } Example state: public class ConnectState : IState { /// <summary> /// The connected player /// </summary> private IMob connectedPlayer; public void Render(IMob mob) { if (!(mob is IPlayer)) { throw new NullReferenceException("ConnectState can only be used with a player object implementing IPlayer"); } //Store a reference for the GetCommand() method to use. this.connectedPlayer = mob as IPlayer; var server = mob.Game as IServer; var game = mob.Game as IGame; // It is not guaranteed that mob.Game will implement IServer. We are only guaranteed that it will implement IGame. if (server == null) { throw new NullReferenceException("LoginState can only be set to a player object that is part of a server."); } //Output the game information mob.Send(new InformationalMessage(game.Name)); mob.Send(new InformationalMessage(game.Description)); mob.Send(new InformationalMessage(string.Empty)); //blank line //Output the server MOTD information mob.Send(new InformationalMessage(string.Join("\n", server.MessageOfTheDay))); mob.Send(new InformationalMessage(string.Empty)); //blank line mob.StateManager.SwitchState(new LoginState()); } /// <summary> /// Gets the command. /// </summary> /// <param name="message">The message.</param> /// <returns>Returns no operation required.</returns> public Commands.ICommand GetCommand(IMessage message) { return new NoOpCommand(); } /// <summary> /// Cleanups this instance during a state change. /// </summary> public void Cleanup() { // We have nothing to clean up. return; } } With the way that I have my FSM set up at the moment, the user can only ever have one state at a time. I read a few different posts on here about state management but nothing regarding keeping a stack history. I thought about using a Stack collection, and just pushing new states on to the stack then popping them off as the user moves out from one. It seems like it would work, but I'm not sure if it is the best approach to take. I'm looking for recommendations on this. I'm currently swapping state from within the individual states themselves as well which I'm on the fence about if it makes sense to do there or not. The user enters a command, the StateManager passes the command to the current State and lets it determine if it needs it (like passing in a password after entering a user name), if the state doesn't need any further commands, it returns null. If it does need to continue doing work, it returns a No Operation to let the state manager know that the state still requires further input from the user. If null is returned, the state manager will then go find the appropriate state for the command entered by the user. Example state requiring additional input from the user public class LoginState : IState { /// <summary> /// The connected player /// </summary> private IPlayer connectedPlayer; private enum CurrentState { FetchUserName, FetchPassword, InvalidUser, } private CurrentState currentState; /// <summary> /// Renders the current state to the players terminal. /// </summary> /// <param name="mob"></param> /// <exception cref="System.NullReferenceException"> /// ConnectState can only be used with a player object implementing IPlayer /// or /// LoginState can only be set to a player object that is part of a server. /// </exception> public void Render(IMob mob) { if (!(mob is IPlayer)) { throw new NullReferenceException("ConnectState can only be used with a player object implementing IPlayer"); } //Store a reference for the GetCommand() method to use. this.connectedPlayer = mob as IPlayer; var server = mob.Game as IServer; // Register to receive new input from the user. mob.ReceivedMessage += connectedPlayer_ReceivedMessage; if (server == null) { throw new NullReferenceException("LoginState can only be set to a player object that is part of a server."); } this.currentState = CurrentState.FetchUserName; switch (this.currentState) { case CurrentState.FetchUserName: mob.Send(new InputMessage("Please enter your user name")); break; case CurrentState.FetchPassword: mob.Send(new InputMessage("Please enter your password")); break; case CurrentState.InvalidUser: mob.Send(new InformationalMessage("Invalid username/password specified.")); this.currentState = CurrentState.FetchUserName; mob.Send(new InputMessage("Please enter your user name")); break; } } /// <summary> /// Receives the players input. /// </summary> /// <param name="sender">The sender.</param> /// <param name="e">The e.</param> void connectedPlayer_ReceivedMessage(object sender, IMessage e) { // Be good memory citizens and clean ourself up after receiving a message. // Not doing this results in duplicate events being registered and memory leaks. this.connectedPlayer.ReceivedMessage -= connectedPlayer_ReceivedMessage; ICommand command = this.GetCommand(e); } /// <summary> /// Gets the Command that the player entered and preps it for execution. /// </summary> /// <param name="command"></param> /// <returns>Returns the ICommand specified.</returns> public Commands.ICommand GetCommand(IMessage command) { if (this.currentState == CurrentState.FetchUserName) { this.connectedPlayer.Name = command.Message; this.currentState = CurrentState.FetchPassword; } else if (this.currentState == CurrentState.FetchPassword) { // find user } return new NoOpCommand(); } /// <summary> /// Cleanups this instance during a state change. /// </summary> public void Cleanup() { // If we have a player instance, we clean up the registered event. if (this.connectedPlayer != null) { this.connectedPlayer.ReceivedMessage -= this.connectedPlayer_ReceivedMessage; } } Maybe my entire FSM isn't wired up in the best way, but I would appreciate input on what would be the best to maintain a stack of state in a MUD game engine, and if my states should be allowed to receive the input from the user or not to check what command was entered before allowing the state manager to switch states. Thanks in advance.

  • Using SPServices &amp; jQuery to Find My Stuff from Multi-Select Person/Group Field

    - by Mark Rackley
    Okay… quick blog post for all you SPServices fans out there. I needed to quickly write a script that would return all the tasks currently assigned to me.  I also wanted it to return any task that was assigned to a group I belong to. This can actually be done with a CAML query, so no big deal, right?  The rub is that the “assigned to” field is a multi-select person or group field. As far as I know (and I actually know so little) you cannot just write a CAML query to return this information. If you can, please leave a comment below and disregard the rest of this blog post… So… what’s a hacker to do? As always, I break things down to their most simple components (I really love the KISS principle and would get it tattooed on my back if people wouldn’t think it meant “Knights In Satan’s Service”. You really gotta be an old far to get that reference).  Here’s what we’re going to do: Get currently logged in user’s name as it is stored in a person field Find all the SharePoint groups the current user belongs to Retrieve a set of assigned tasks from the task list and then find those that are assigned to current  user or group current user belongs to Nothing too hairy… So let’s get started Some Caveats before I continue There are some obvious performance implications with this solution as I make a total of four SPServices calls and there’s a lot of looping going on. Also, the CAML query in this blog has NOT been optimized. If you move forward with this code, tweak it so that it returns a further subset of data or you will see horrible performance if you have a few hundred entries in your task list. Add a date range to the CAML or something. Find some way to limit the results as much as possible. Lastly, if you DO have a better solution, I would like you to share. Iron sharpens iron and all…   Alright, let’s really get started. Get currently logged in user’s name as it is stored in a person field First thing we need to do is understand how a person group looks when you look at the XML returned from a SharePoint Web Service call. It turns out it’s stored like any other multi select item in SharePoint which is <id>;#<value> and when you assign a person to that field the <value> equals the person’s name “Mark Rackley” in my case. This is for Windows Authentication, I would expect this to be different in FBA, but I’m not using FBA. If you want to know what it looks like with FBA you can use the code in this blog and strategically place an alert to see the value.  Anyway… I need to find the name of the user who is currently logged in as it is stored in the person field. This turns out to be one SPServices call: var userName = $().SPServices.SPGetCurrentUser({                     fieldName: "Title",                     debug: false                     }); As you can see, the “Title” field has the information we need. I suspect (although again, I haven’t tried) that the Title field also contains the user’s name as we need it if I was using FBA. Okay… last thing we need to do is store our users name in an array for processing later: myGroups = new Array(); myGroups.push(userName); Find all the SharePoint groups the current user belongs to Now for the groups. How are groups returned in that XML stream?  Same as the person <ID>;#<Group Name>, and if it’s a mutli select it’s all returned in one big long string “<ID>;#<Group Name>;#<ID>;#<Group Name>;#<ID>;#<Group Name>;#<ID>;#<Group Name>;#<ID>;#<Group Name>”.  So, how do we find all the groups the current user belongs to? This is also a simple SPServices call. Using the “GetGroupCollectionFromUser” operation we can find all the groups a user belongs to. So, let’s execute this method and store all our groups. $().SPServices({       operation: "GetGroupCollectionFromUser",       userLoginName: $().SPServices.SPGetCurrentUser(),       async: false,       completefunc: function(xData, Status) {          $(xData.responseXML).find("[nodeName=Group]").each(function() {                 myGroups.push($(this).attr("Name"));          });         }     }); So, all we did in the above code was execute the “GetGroupCollectionFromUser” operation and look for the each “Group” node (row) and store the name for each group in our array that we put the user’s name in previously (myGroups). Now we have an array that contains the current user’s name as it will appear in the person field XML and  all the groups the current user belongs to. The Rest Now comes the easy part for all of you familiar with SPServices. We are going to retrieve our tasks from the Task list using “GetListItems” and look at each entry to see if it belongs to this person. If it does belong to this person we are going to store it for later processing. That code looks something like this: // get list of assigned tasks that aren't closed... *modify the CAML to perform better!*             $().SPServices({                   operation: "GetListItems",                   async: false,                   listName: "Tasks",                   CAMLViewFields: "<ViewFields>" +                             "<FieldRef Name='AssignedTo' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='Title' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='StartDate' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='EndDate' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='Status' />" +                             "</ViewFields>",                   CAMLQuery: "<Query><Where><And><IsNotNull><FieldRef Name='AssignedTo'/></IsNotNull><Neq><FieldRef Name='Status'/><Value Type='Text'>Completed</Value></Neq></And></Where></Query>",                     completefunc: function (xData, Status) {                         var aDataSet = new Array();                        //loop through each returned Task                         $(xData.responseXML).find("[nodeName=z:row]").each(function() {                             //store the multi-select string of who task is assigned to                             var assignedToString = $(this).attr("ows_AssignedTo");                             found = false;                            //loop through the persons name and all the groups they belong to                             for(var i=0; i<myGroups.length; i++) {                                 //if the person's name or group exists in the assigned To string                                 //then the task is assigned to them                                 if (assignedToString.indexOf(myGroups[i]) >= 0){                                     found = true;                                     break;                                 }                             }                             //if the Task belongs to this person then store or display it                             //(I'm storing it in an array)                             if (found){                                 var thisName = $(this).attr("ows_Title");                                 var thisStartDate = $(this).attr("ows_StartDate");                                 var thisEndDate = $(this).attr("ows_EndDate");                                 var thisStatus = $(this).attr("ows_Status");                                                                  var aDataRow=new Array(                                     thisName,                                     thisStartDate,                                     thisEndDate,                                     thisStatus);                                 aDataSet.push(aDataRow);                             }                          });                          SomeFunctionToDisplayData(aDataSet);                     }                 }); Some notes on why I did certain things and additional caveats. You will notice in my code that I’m doing an AssignedToString.indexOf(GroupName) to see if the task belongs to the person. This could possibly return bad results if you have SharePoint Group names that are named in such a way that the “IndexOf” returns a false positive.  For example if you have a Group called “My Users” and a group called “My Users – SuperUsers” then if a user belonged to “My Users” it would return a false positive on executing “My Users – SuperUsers”.IndexOf(“My Users”). Make sense? Just be aware of this when naming groups, we don’t have this problem. This is where also some fine-tuning can probably be done by those smarter than me. This is a pretty inefficient method to determine if a task belongs to a user, I mean what if a user belongs to 20 groups? That’s a LOT of looping.  See all the opportunities I give you guys to do something fun?? Also, why am I storing my values in an array instead of just writing them out to a Div? Well.. I want to pass my data to a jQuery library to format it all nice and pretty and an Array is a great way to do that. When all is said and done and we put all the code together it looks like:   $(document).ready(function() {         var userName = $().SPServices.SPGetCurrentUser({                     fieldName: "Title",                     debug: false                     });         myGroups = new Array();     myGroups.push(userName );       $().SPServices({       operation: "GetGroupCollectionFromUser",       userLoginName: $().SPServices.SPGetCurrentUser(),       async: false,       completefunc: function(xData, Status) {          $(xData.responseXML).find("[nodeName=Group]").each(function() {                 myGroups.push($(this).attr("Name"));          });                      // get list of assigned tasks that aren't closed... *modify this CAML to perform better!*             $().SPServices({                   operation: "GetListItems",                   async: false,                   listName: "Tasks",                   CAMLViewFields: "<ViewFields>" +                             "<FieldRef Name='AssignedTo' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='Title' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='StartDate' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='EndDate' />" +                             "<FieldRef Name='Status' />" +                             "</ViewFields>",                   CAMLQuery: "<Query><Where><And><IsNotNull><FieldRef Name='AssignedTo'/></IsNotNull><Neq><FieldRef Name='Status'/><Value Type='Text'>Completed</Value></Neq></And></Where></Query>",                     completefunc: function (xData, Status) {                         var aDataSet = new Array();                         //loop through each returned Task                         $(xData.responseXML).find("[nodeName=z:row]").each(function() {                             //store the multi-select string of who task is assigned to                             var assignedToString = $(this).attr("ows_AssignedTo");                             found = false;                            //loop through the persons name and all the groups they belong to                             for(var i=0; i<myGroups.length; i++) {                                 //if the person's name or group exists in the assigned To string                                 //then the task is assigned to them                                 if (assignedToString.indexOf(myGroups[i]) >= 0){                                     found = true;                                     break;                                 }                             }                            //if the Task belongs to this person then store or display it                             //(I'm storing it in an array)                             if (found){                                 var thisName = $(this).attr("ows_Title");                                 var thisStartDate = $(this).attr("ows_StartDate");                                 var thisEndDate = $(this).attr("ows_EndDate");                                 var thisStatus = $(this).attr("ows_Status");                                                                  var aDataRow=new Array(                                     thisName,                                     thisStartDate,                                     thisEndDate,                                     thisStatus);                                 aDataSet.push(aDataRow);                             }                          });                          SomeFunctionToDisplayData(aDataSet);                     }                 });       }    });  }); Final Thoughts So, there you have it. Take it and run with it. Make it something cool (and tell me how you did it). Another possible way to improve performance in this scenario is to use a DVWP to display the tasks and use jQuery and the “myGroups” array from this blog post to hide all those rows that don’t belong to the current user. I haven’t tried it, but it does move some of the processing off to the server (generating the view) so it may perform better.  As always, thanks for stopping by… hope you have a Merry Christmas…

  • Negamax implementation doesn't appear to work with tic-tac-toe

    - by George Jiglau
    I've implemented Negamax as it can be found on wikipedia, which includes alpha/beta pruning. However, it seems to favor a losing move, which should be an invalid result. The game is Tic-Tac-Toe, I've abstracted most of the game play so it should be rather easy to spot an error within the algorithm. Here is the code, nextMove, negamax or evaluate are probably the functions that contain the fault: #include <list> #include <climits> #include <iostream> //#define DEBUG 1 using namespace std; struct Move { int row, col; Move(int row, int col) : row(row), col(col) { } Move(const Move& m) { row = m.row; col = m.col; } }; struct Board { char player; char opponent; char board[3][3]; Board() { } void read(istream& stream) { stream >> player; opponent = player == 'X' ? 'O' : 'X'; for(int row = 0; row < 3; row++) { for(int col = 0; col < 3; col++) { char playa; stream >> playa; board[row][col] = playa == '_' ? 0 : playa == player ? 1 : -1; } } } void print(ostream& stream) { for(int row = 0; row < 3; row++) { for(int col = 0; col < 3; col++) { switch(board[row][col]) { case -1: stream << opponent; break; case 0: stream << '_'; break; case 1: stream << player; break; } } stream << endl; } } void do_move(const Move& move, int player) { board[move.row][move.col] = player; } void undo_move(const Move& move) { board[move.row][move.col] = 0; } bool isWon() { if (board[0][0] != 0) { if (board[0][0] == board[0][1] && board[0][1] == board[0][2]) return true; if (board[0][0] == board[1][0] && board[1][0] == board[2][0]) return true; } if (board[2][2] != 0) { if (board[2][0] == board[2][1] && board[2][1] == board[2][2]) return true; if (board[0][2] == board[1][2] && board[1][2] == board[2][2]) return true; } if (board[1][1] != 0) { if (board[0][1] == board[1][1] && board[1][1] == board[2][1]) return true; if (board[1][0] == board[1][1] && board[1][1] == board[1][2]) return true; if (board[0][0] == board[1][1] && board[1][1] == board[2][2]) return true; if (board[0][2] == board [1][1] && board[1][1] == board[2][0]) return true; } return false; } list<Move> getMoves() { list<Move> moveList; for(int row = 0; row < 3; row++) for(int col = 0; col < 3; col++) if (board[row][col] == 0) moveList.push_back(Move(row, col)); return moveList; } }; ostream& operator<< (ostream& stream, Board& board) { board.print(stream); return stream; } istream& operator>> (istream& stream, Board& board) { board.read(stream); return stream; } int evaluate(Board& board) { int score = board.isWon() ? 100 : 0; for(int row = 0; row < 3; row++) for(int col = 0; col < 3; col++) if (board.board[row][col] == 0) score += 1; return score; } int negamax(Board& board, int depth, int player, int alpha, int beta) { if (board.isWon() || depth <= 0) { #if DEBUG > 1 cout << "Found winner board at depth " << depth << endl; cout << board << endl; #endif return player * evaluate(board); } list<Move> allMoves = board.getMoves(); if (allMoves.size() == 0) return player * evaluate(board); for(list<Move>::iterator it = allMoves.begin(); it != allMoves.end(); it++) { board.do_move(*it, -player); int val = -negamax(board, depth - 1, -player, -beta, -alpha); board.undo_move(*it); if (val >= beta) return val; if (val > alpha) alpha = val; } return alpha; } void nextMove(Board& board) { list<Move> allMoves = board.getMoves(); Move* bestMove = NULL; int bestScore = INT_MIN; for(list<Move>::iterator it = allMoves.begin(); it != allMoves.end(); it++) { board.do_move(*it, 1); int score = -negamax(board, 100, 1, INT_MIN + 1, INT_MAX); board.undo_move(*it); #if DEBUG cout << it->row << ' ' << it->col << " = " << score << endl; #endif if (score > bestScore) { bestMove = &*it; bestScore = score; } } if (!bestMove) return; cout << bestMove->row << ' ' << bestMove->col << endl; #if DEBUG board.do_move(*bestMove, 1); cout << board; #endif } int main() { Board board; cin >> board; #if DEBUG cout << "Starting board:" << endl; cout << board; #endif nextMove(board); return 0; } Giving this input: O X__ ___ ___ The algorithm chooses to place a piece at 0, 1, causing a guaranteed loss, do to this trap(nothing can be done to win or end in a draw): XO_ X__ ___ Perhaps it has something to do with the evaluation function? If so, how could I fix it?

  • Help with Nicedit - removeFormat function

  • IntelliTrace As a Learning Tool for MVC2 in a VS2010 Project

    - by Sam Abraham
    IntelliTrace is a new feature in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition. I see this valuable tool as a “Program Execution Recorder” that captures information about events and calls taking place as soon as we hit the VS2010 play (Start Debugging) button or the F5 key. Many online resources already discuss IntelliTrace and the benefit it brings to both developers and testers alike so I see no value of just repeating this information.  In this brief blog entry, I would like to share with you how I will be using IntelliTrace in my upcoming talk at the Ft Lauderdale ArcSig .Net User Group Meeting on April 20th 2010 (check http://www.fladotnet.com for more information), as a learning tool to demonstrate the internals of the lifecycle of an MVC2 application.  I will also be providing some helpful links that cover IntelliTrace in more detail at the end of my article for reference. IntelliTrace is setup by default to only capture execution events. Microsoft did such a great job on optimizing its recording process that I haven’t even felt the slightest performance hit with IntelliTrace running as I was debugging my solutions and projects.  For my purposes here however, I needed to capture more information beyond execution events, so I turned on the option for capturing calls in addition to events as shown in Figures 1 and 2. Changing capture options will require us to stop our debugging session and start over for the new settings to take place. Figure 1 – Access IntelliTrace options via the Tools->Options menu items Figure 2 – Change IntelliTrace Options to capture call information as well as events Notice the warning with regards to potentially degrading performance when selecting to capture call information in addition to the default events-only setting. I have found this warning to be sure true. My subsequent tests showed slowness in page load times compared to rendering those same exact pages with the “event-only” option selected. Execution recording is auto-started along with the new debugging session of our project. At this point, we can simply interact with the application and continue executing normally until we decide to “playback” the code we have executed so far.  For code replay, first step is to “break” the current execution as show in Figure 3.   Figure 3 – Break to replay recording A few tries later, I found a good process to quickly find and demonstrate the MVC2 page lifecycle. First-off, we start with the event view as shown in Figure 4 until we find an interesting event that needs further studying.  Figure 4 – Going through IntelliTrace’s events and picking as specific entry of interest We now can, for instance, study how the highlighted HTTP GET request is being handled, by clicking on the “Calls View” for that particular event. Notice that IntelliTrace shows us all calls that took place in servicing that GET request. Double clicking on any call takes us to a more granular view of the call stack within that clicked call, up until getting to a specific line of code where we can do a line-by-line replay of the execution from that point onwards using F10 or F11 just like our typical good old VS2008 debugging helped us accomplish. Figure 5 – switching to call view on an event of interest Figure 6 – Double clicking on call shows a more granular view of the call stack. In conclusion, the introduction of IntelliTrace as a new addition to the VS developers’ tool arsenal enhances development and debugging experience and effectively tackles the “no-repro” problem. It will also hopefully enhance my audience’s experience listening to me speaking about  an MVC2 page lifecycle which I can now easily visually demonstrate, thereby improving the probability of keeping everybody awake a little longer.
