  • Passing a generic class to a java function?

    - by rodo
    Is it possible to use Generics when passing a class to a java function? I was hoping to do something like this: public static class DoStuff { public <T extends Class<List>> void doStuffToList(T className) { System.out.println(className); } public void test() { doStuffToList(List.class); // compiles doStuffToList(ArrayList.class); // compiler error (undesired behaviour) doStuffToList(Integer.class); // compiler error (desired behaviour) } } Ideally the List.class and ArrayList.class lines would work fine, but the Integer.class line would cause a compile error. I could use Class as my type instead of T extends Class<List> but then I won't catch the Integer.class case above.

  • Review of a locked part of an function in C#.NET

    - by Lieven Cardoen
    Is this piece of code where I lock a part of the function correct? Or can it have use drawbacks when multiple sessions ask concurrently for the same Exam? Purpose is that client that first asks for the Exam will assemble it, all next clients will get the cached version. public Exam GetExamByExamDto(ExamDTO examDto, int languageId) { Log.Warn("GetExamByExamDto"); lock (LockString) { if (!ContainsExam(examDto.id, languageId)) { Log.Warn("Assembling ExamDto"); var examAssembler = new ExamAssembler(); var exam = examAssembler.createExam(examDto); if (AddToCache(exam)) { _examDictionary.Add(examDto.id + "_" + languageId, exam); } Log.Warn("Returning non cached ExamDto"); return exam; } } Log.Warn("Returning cached ExamDto"); return _examDictionary[examDto.id + "_" + languageId]; } I have a feeling that this isn't the way to do it.

  • get function address from name [.debug_info ??]

    - by user361190
    Hi, I was trying to write a small debug utility and for this I need to get the function/global variable address given its name. This is built-in debug utility, which means that the debug utility will run from within the code to be debugged or in plain words I cannot parse the executable file. Now is there a well-known way to do that ? The plan I have is to make the .debug_* sections to to be loaded into to memory [which I plan to do by a cheap trick like this in ld script] .data { *(.data) __sym_start = .; (debug_); __sym_end = .; } Now I have to parse the section to get the information I need, but I am not sure this is doable or is there issues with this - this is all just theory. But it also seems like too much of work :-) is there a simple way. Or if someone can tell upfront why my scheme will not work, it ill also be helpful. Thanks in Advance, Alex.

  • Car Class (first time with classes)

    - by user2967605
    For an assignment I needed to use a class named car and have it display the make and model, and also have the speed increase by 5 when you use accelerate and decrease by 5 when you brake. My teacher helped me along the way but when I got to the end I couldn't get it to run. Could someone correct me and tell my why it's wrong? Imp--------- #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; void accelerate() { int speed; speed = speed + 5; } void brake() { int speed; speed = speed - 5; } Header #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; class car { public: car(int getYear, string getMake); void accelerate(); void brake(); private: int year; string make; int speed; }; CarClass.cpp #include <string> #include "CarClass.h" using namespace std; int main() { car.(2013,"Kia") car.accelerate() car.brake() }

  • Isses using function with variadic arguments

    - by Sausages
    I'm trying to write a logging function and have tried several different attempts at dealing with the variadic arguments, but am having problems with all of them. Here's the latest: - (void) log:(NSString *)format, ... { if (self.loggingEnabled) { va_list vl; va_start(vl, format); NSString* str = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:format arguments:vl]; va_end(vl); NSLog(format); } } If I call this like this: [self log:@"I like: %@", @"sausages"]; Then I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS at the NSLog line (there's also a compiler warning that the format string is not a string literal). However if in XCode's console I do "po str" it displays "I like: sausages" so str seems ok.

  • [jQuery] Improving click/toggle function

    - by Nimbuz
    $('.tabs a ').click(function () { var a = $(this).attr('href'); if (a == '#tab-1') { $('.btn-buy').hide(); $('.btn-sell').show(); } else { $('.btn-sell').hide(); $('.btn-buy').show(); } return false; }); ... it works, but the code is ugly, too many lines. Can it be reduced any further? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Swap function for a char*

    - by Martin
    I have the simple function below which swap two characters of an array of characters (s). However, I am getting a "Unhandled exception at 0x01151cd7 in Bla.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x011557a4." error. The two indexes (left and right) are within the limit of the array. What am I doing wrong? void swap(char* s, int left, int right) { char tmp = s[left]; s[left] = s[right]; s[right] = tmp; } swap("ABC", 0, 1); I am using VS2010 with unmanaged C/C++. Thanks!

  • Loop function works first time, not second time

    - by user1483101
    I'm creating a parsing program to look for certain strings in a a text file and count them. However, I'm having some trouble with one spot. def callbrowse(): filename = tkFileDialog.askopenfilename(filetypes = (("Text files", "*.txt"),("HTML files", ".html;*.htm"),("All files", "*.*"))) print filename try: global filex global writefile filex = open(filename, 'r') print "Success!!" print filename except: print "Failed to open file" ######This returns the correct count only the first time it is run. The next time it ######returns 0. If the browse button is clicked again, then this function returns the ######correct count again. def count_errors(error_name): count = 0 for line in filex: if error_name == "CPU > 79%": stringparse = "Utilization is above" elif error_name == "Stuck touchscreen": stringparse = "Stuck touchscreen" if re.match("(.*)" + "Utilization is above" + "(.*)",line): count = count + 1 return count Thanks for any help. I can't seem to get this to work right.

  • Writing lambda functions in Scala

    - by user2433237

  • Is there a circular hash function?

    - by Phil H
    Thinking about this question on testing string rotation, I wondered: Is there was such thing as a circular/cyclic hash function? E.g. h(abcdef) = h(bcdefa) = h(cdefab) etc Uses for this include scalable algorithms which can check n strings against each other to see where some are rotations of others. I suppose the essence of the hash is to extract information which is order-specific but not position-specific. Maybe something that finds a deterministic 'first position', rotates to it and hashes the result? It all seems plausible, but slightly beyond my grasp at the moment; it must be out there already...

  • I having a problem with the mysqli free() member function

    - by neo skosana
    Hi I have code where I connected to the database like so: $db = new mysqli("localhost", "user", "pass", "company"); Now when I query the database like so: //query calls to a stored procedure 'user_info' $result = $db->query("CALL user_info('$instruc', 'c_register', '$eml', '$pass', '')"); //I use the $result This query works well. Now when I try and free that result like so: $result->free(); or $result->close(); It seems like it doesn't do anything because $result is still set. When I try to run another query it gives me this error: Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_array() on a non-object in... For me to run this other query I have to close the db conection and connect again, then it will work. I want to know if there is a way I could run the other query without having to disconnect and reconnect to the database. thanks in advance.

  • What does the R function `poly` really do?

    - by merlin2011
    I have read through the manual page ?poly (which I admit I did not completely comphrehend) and also read the description of the function in book Introduction to Statistical Learning. My current understanding is that a call to poly(horsepower, 2) should be equivalent to writing horsepower + I(horsepower^2). However, this seems to be contradicted by the output of the following code. library(ISLR) summary(lm(mpg~poly(horsepower,2), data=Auto))$coef summary(lm(mpg~horsepower+I(horsepower^2), data=Auto))$coef Output: Estimate Std. Error t value Pr(>|t|) (Intercept) 23.44592 0.2209163 106.13030 2.752212e-289 poly(horsepower, 2)1 -120.13774 4.3739206 -27.46683 4.169400e-93 poly(horsepower, 2)2 44.08953 4.3739206 10.08009 2.196340e-21 Estimate Std. • Does submit() function has a callback?

    - by ecu
    Hi, I have this code: setMyCookie('name','value_1'); $('.myform').submit(); setMyCookie('name','value_2'); Problem: Webkit browsers seem to update 'MyCookie' with 'value_2' before the form gets submited, or in the exact moment it is being submited, so wrong cookie value is sent with it. I want to change cookie value to 'value_2' immediately after the form is submited so the cookie is ready for another request. The following code works fine, but I don't think using timeout() is the best solution. Maybe there is another way to solve this problem? setMyCookie('name','value_1'); $('.myform').submit(); setTimeout(function(){setMyCookie('name',value_2);},100); Thanks.

  • How does * work in Python

    - by Deqing
    Just switched from C++ to Python, and found that sometimes it is a little hard to understand ideas behind Python. I guess, a variable is a reference to the real object. For example, a=(1,2,5) meaning a - (1,2,5), so if b=a, then b and a are 2 references pointing to the same (1,2,5). It is a little like pointers in C/C++. If I have: def foo(a,b,c): print a,b,c a=(1,3,5) foo(*a) What does * mean here? Looks like it expands tuple a to a[0], a[1] and a[2]. But why print(*a) is not working while print(a[0],a[1],a[2]) works fine?

I was wondering instead of using a for loop to generate a sequence to element which are multiplied with every other element in the list how can I use a Seq map function or something similar to generate something like below. So for e.g. I have a list [1..10] I would like to apply a fun which generates a result something like [(1*1); (1*2);(1*3); (1*4); (1*5)......(2*1);(2*2);(2*3).....(3*1);(3*2)...] How can i achieve this ?. Many thanks for all you help.

  • Trying to Understand PLSQL Function

    I am new to PLSQL and I have this huge plsql function which am trying to understand and am having hard time understanding the flow and so I would really appreciate if anyone can run me through the big pieces so that I can understand the flow. • Why isn't there a typeclass for functions?

    - by Steve314
    I already tried this on Reddit, but there's no sign of a response - maybe it's the wrong place, maybe I'm too impatient. Anyway... In a learning problem I've been messing around with, I realised I needed a typeclass for functions with operations for applying, composing etc. Reasons... It can be convenient to treat a representation of a function as if it were the function itself, so that applying the function implicitly uses an interpreter, and composing functions derives a new description. Once you have a typeclass for functions, you can have derived typeclasses for special kinds of functions - in my case, I want invertible functions. For example, functions that apply integer offsets could be represented by an ADT containing an integer. Applying those functions just means adding the integer. Composition is implemented by adding the wrapped integers. The inverse function has the integer negated. The identity function wraps zero. The constant function cannot be provided because there's no suitable representation for it. Of course it doesn't need to spell things as if it the values were genuine Haskell functions, but once I had the idea, I thought a library like that must already exist and maybe even using the standard spellings. But I can't find such a typeclass in the Haskell library. I found the Data.Function module, but there's no typeclass - just some common functions that are also available from the Prelude. So - why isn't there a typeclass for functions? Is it "just because there isn't" or "because it's not so useful as you think"? Or maybe there's a fundamental problem with the idea? The biggest possible problem I've thought of so far is that function application on actual functions would probably have to be special-cased by the compiler to avoid a looping problem - in order to apply this function I need to apply the function application function, and to do that I need to call the function application function, and to do that...

  • Javascript or CSS hover not working in Safari and Chrome

    - by PAZtech
    I have a problem with a script for a image gallery. The problem seems to only occur on Safari and Chrome, but if I refresh the page I get it to work correctly - weird! Correct function: The gallery has a top bar, which if you hover over it, it will display a caption. Below sits the main image. At the bottom there is another bar that is a reversal of the top bar. When you hover over it, it will display thumbnails of the gallery. The problem: In Safari and Chrome, the thumbnail holder will not display. In fact, it doesn't even show it as an active item (or a rollover). But oddly enough, if you manually refresh the page it begins to work correctly for the rest of the time you view the page. Once you have left the page and return the same error occurs again and you have to go through the same process. Here's one of the pages to look at: link text Here's the CSS: #ThumbsGutter { background: url(../Images/1x1.gif); background: url(/Images/1x1.gif); height: 105px; left: 0px; position: absolute; top: 0px;
