• DataGridView in VB.net will not allow me to update

  I have a datagridview with a dataTable as the dataSource. The user can add new rows to the datadridview, but I dont display the primary key column (for obvious reasons) and set it to .visible = false. When I need to update the information in the datagridview to the database, I use the sqlClient.SqlCommandBuilder to then update the underlying datasource (the dataTable mentioned above). Now, because the hidden column is the primary key, I loop through the datagridview and programically add the required primary key field to each new row that does not already contain a primary key (user added rows). This works great 95% of the time... The problem is when the user somehow gives focus at some point (any point) to that bottom row on the datagridview, below their added rows, that is used to add new rows. The update command gives me an error stating that it cannot insert null into the primary key field, even though when checking all the values in every row, it is definitely NOT null for any of them. I have tried to trap for row.isNewRow (as the field never shows null) and deleting that row, but I get an error stating I can not delete an uncommitted row. If the focus is never given to that empty row beneath the existing rows and user added rows, the update works fine. What is going on?!

  Hello! I have a CCLabelAtlas that I have on a layer to display the current score within my game...the problem that I am having with it is that it does not update when I use [scoreLabel setString:]. Here's how I have it laid out: In the header: @interface GameScene : CCLayer { ... CCLabelAtlas* scoreLabel; } And in the init: scoreLabel = [[CCLabelAtlas alloc] initWithString:@"0" charMapFile:@"scoreCharMap.png" itemWidth:6 itemHeight:8 startCharMap:'.']; [scoreLabel setPosition:ccp(105, 414)]; [self addChild:scoreLabel z: 6]; scoreCharMap.png is a custom map that includes ./0123456789 of my desired font. When the score is changed, I attempt to do this to get the label to update with the current score: NSString* str = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%d", [[GameRunner sharedInstance] currentScore]]; [scoreLabel setString: str]; [str release]; [scoreLabel draw]; Problem is that it doesn't ever update - it just sits there and displays 0. I know for a fact due to breakpoints and debugging that setString is being called, and that the string that it should be displaying is correct - but it just doesn't update. Hard-coding the value and saying [scoreLabel setString:@"1234"] does nothing, either. What am I doing wrong here? I am using Cocos2d 0.99 - thanks in advance!

  Hello. I am trying to install the vhds (virtual hard drive image) of IE6 on XP and IE 7 on XP packs available from Microsoft on Virtual Box. Virtual Box will only mount CD/DVD's and/or ISO's. How do I get it to use the Microsoft files? I need this to test web pages in IE6/IE7s. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Is there a way to do this, or another way that will allow me to load XP/IE6 and XP/IE7 in Virtualbox Edit: Ok I got it to work but it says XP must be updated in 3 days due to hardware changes. Microsoft said this would be activated til January 1st 2010. Is there a way to bypass that?

  I have two web user controls nested inside of an update panel. The events inside the user controls do not appear to trigger the panel. For testing, I have set the method the fires to sleep for 3 seconds, and added an update progress panel to the page. The update progress panel never comes up and the page reflashes as usual. The user controls work correctly and do what they need to do, but I would like to make them ajaxy and pretty. I have two tables, first is ws3600, which holds columns (Date, PressureREL, TemperatureOUT, Dewpoint, ...). Then I have second table, called maxday, which holds columns like DatePressureREL, PressureREL, DateTemperatureOUT, TemperatureOUT,... Now as you can see from an example, I update each column, the question is, is there a faster way? I am asking this, because I am calling MAX twice, first to find the Date for that value and secondly to find the actual value. Now I know that I could write like that: SELECT Date, PressureREL FROM ws3600 WHERE PressureREL = (SELECT MAX(PressureREL) FROM ws3600 WHERE Date >= '" + Date + "') AND Date >= '" + Date + "' ORDER BY Date DESC LIMIT 1 That way I get the Date of the max and the max value at the same time and then update with those values the data in maxday table. But the problem of this solution is, that I have to execute many queries, which as I understand takes alot more time compared to executing one long mysql query because of overhead in sending each query to the server. If there is no better way, which solution beetwen this two should I choose. The first, which only takes one query but is very unoptimized or the second which is beter in terms of optimization, but needs alot more queries which probably means that the preformance gain is lost because of overhead in sending each query to the server?

  Office for Mac 2008 just asked me whether I wanted to update. However, on continuing with the update, a Window popped up saying that I needed to close Chrome before the update could continue. I find this rather suspicious, since Office should not need to go anywhere near Chrome. Any idea why there might be a legitimate reason for this, or alternatively, just what is Microsoft trying to sneak on to my computer? EDIT: I did look at the download details on Microsoft's website, but aside from the general guff about closing all open applications, it doesn't mention anything about Chrome or any browser plugins.

  I'm trying to write an SQL statement that will generate an SQL script that will update a BLOB field with an IMAGE being selected from the database. This is what I have: select concat( 'UPDATE `IMAGE` SET THUMBNAIL = ', QUOTE( THUMBNAIL ), ' WHERE ID = ', ID, ';' ) as UPDATE_STATEMENT from IMAGE; In the above, THUMBNAIL is a BLOB field containing raw image data. When I run the resulting script I get the following error: ERROR at line 2: Unknown command '\\'. I first tried this without the QUOTE() function, like so: select concat( 'UPDATE `IMAGE` SET THUMBNAIL = \'', THUMBNAIL, '\' WHERE ID = ', ID, ';' ) as UPDATE_STATEMENT from IMAGE; Running the resulting script produces this error: ERROR at line 2: Unknown command '\0'. What is the proper function to apply to this BLOB field in the select, so the UPDATE statements will work? If context is required, I'm looking to migrate thumbnails generated on one server to another server for certain image IDs only. I would use mysqldump, but I don't want to clobber the entire table. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I could just create an list of tuples, where each tuple is oldtext, newtext, columnname, so that I could then loop through the list and build up the query, but it seems that I should be passing in a StringBuilder to a recursive function, returning back a boolean which is then passed as a parameter to the recursive function. Does this seem to be the best approach, or is there a better one?

• Redirecting from an update action to the referrer of the edit

  My Rails 2.3 application has a User model and the usual controller actions. The edit form can be reached two ways: when a user edits his own profile from the home page, or when an admin user edits someone else's profile from users collection. What I'd like to do is have the update action redirect back to the referred of the edit action, not the update action. If I do a simple redirect_to(:back) within update, it goes back to the edit form -- not good. One solution is to forget entirely about referrers and redirect based on the current_user and the updated user: if they're the same, go back to the home page, else go to the users collection page. This will break if I ever add a third path to the edit form. It's doubtful I'll ever do this but I'd prefer a solution that's not so brittle. Another solution is to store the referrer of edit form in a hidden field and then redirect to this value from inside the update action. This doesn't feel quite right, though I can't explain why. Are there any better approaches? Or, should I stop worrying and go with one of the two I've mentioned?

  Our IT environment provides 10 shared, Microsoft Windows 7 laptops for an office staff of several hundred people. After checking-out and logging into a laptop with an Active Directory domain account, office staff frequently run Microsoft Outlook 2010. However, the first time office staff do this, Microsoft Outlook 2010 prompts the user to create and configure their local account. This takes just several clicks, as Microsoft Outlook 2010 auto-detects the office staff member's Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 (SP3) account. The problem is: all office staff have to do this on each new laptop they use. Until they do so, some functionality does not work (for example, Microsoft Word 2010 Save & Send fails with error "There was a problem creating the message"). How might our IT department "pre-configure" the shared laptops so office staff can simply log-in and use Microsoft Outlook 2010 functionality without the need to configure a local account?

• Python GUI does not update until entire process is finished

  I have a process that gets a files from a directory and puts them in a list. It then iterates that list in a loop. The last line of the loop being where it should update my gui display, then it begins the loop again with the next item in the list. My problem is that it does not actually update the gui until the entire process is complete, which depending on the size of the list could be 30 seconds to over a minute. This gives the feeling of the program being 'hung' What I wanted it to do was to process one line in the list, update the gui and then continue. Where did I go wrong? The line to update the list is # Populate listview with drive contents.   I have Office 2008 for OS X through Microsoft's HUP (Home Use Program). I want to reinstall, so I need to first remove it. For Office on OS X, Microsoft provides a binary called "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office/Remove Office". When I run it, it says it can't find any versions of office on my computer and won't do anything. I know MS-Office for Mac puts many different components in various places all over the system and not just within it's own applications folder, so how to I successfully remove Office so I can re-install?

  We're using Worklight 6.1.0.0 / WebSphere 8.0.0.2 (ND/aix). This seemed pretty close to my question too, but for version 6.0. I've successfully done uninstall/install to our worklight console war package. However, there is some extra work on re-deploying adapters and such. I was looking for a way to just update the console. Among the ant tasks there is a target 'minimal-update', which sounds like what I'm looking for (is it?). However when all other pieces fell into place, I have an error for mapping the datasources: ADMA0007E: A validation error occurred in task Mapping resource references to resources. The Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) name is not specified for resource reference jdbc/WorklightDS in module Worklight with EJB name . Contents of the 'minimal-update' task is pretty much the same as for 'install'. I tried that as update from websphere admin console (but i should use the ant task - right?), that gave me a wizard screen to map jdbc/WorklightDS from package to jdbc/WorklightDS on server. This left me wondering how could I tell this using the ant task.

• Entity Framework DateTime update extremely slow

  I have this situation currently with Entity Framework: using (TestEntities dataContext = DataContext) { UserSession session = dataContext.UserSessions.FirstOrDefault(userSession => userSession.Id == SessionId); if (session != null) { session.LastAvailableDate = DateTime.Now; dataContext.SaveChanges(); } } This is all working perfect, except for the fact that it is terribly slow compared to what I expect (14 calls per second, tested with 100 iterations). When I update this record manually through this command: dataContext.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand(String.Format("update UserSession set LastAvailableDate = '{0}' where Id = '{1}'", DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fffffff"), SessionId)); I get 55 calls per second, which is more than fast enough. However, when I don't update the session.LastAvailableDate but I update an integer (e.g. session.UserId) or string with Entity Framework, I get 50 calls per second, which is also more than fast enough. Only the datetime field is terrible slow. The difference of a factor 4 is unacceptable and I was wondering how I can improve this as I don't prefer using direct SQL when I can also use the Entity Framework. I'm using Entity Framework 4.3.1 (also tried 4.1).

• CakePHP: Need help using saveField to update a fields in a belongsTo model

  I am trying to update a password into two different models/tables in CakePHP. I can update it fine in the parent model, but not the second model. Models: Users (hasOne GameProfile) PK=id Gameprofiles (belongsTo User) FK=user_id Here is a stripped down version of my function in the Users_controller.php: function updatepass() { if (!empty($this->data)) { $this->User->id = $this->Auth->user('id'); $this->User->saveField('sha1password', $this->Auth->password($this->data['User']['newpass'])); $this->User->Gameprofile->saveField('plainpassword', $this->data['User']['newpass']); } } When I execute the function, the users table is updated fine. But the gameprofile table is not updated, rather Cake does an insert. SQL Query Log: 1195 Query UPDATE `users` SET `sha1password` = 'e9443e9f5e1a07832aad1b2f84de1a666daf89b5' WHERE `users`.`id` = 30 1195 Query INSERT INTO `gameprofiles` (`plainpassword`) VALUES ('abc') Is there a way to get CakePHP to do an update using saveField on a model with a belongsTo attribute? I've tried various ways to refer to user_id before executing the second saveField, but just can't seem to find the winning combination. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  I'm not sure how many people here are experts with visual studios, but I'd imagine a handful (not to raise expectations but to appeal to your egos :P). I'm working primarily in visual basic for now (though I hope to switch to c# in the near future and maybe a java or web app). Basically I'm trying to create an update feature that will work similarly to how common programs such as firefox or itunes update automatically. There is supposed to be provided functionality for this in what is called click once. I carry out the following procedures and get the following errors when trying to change the update url of my program to a password-protected ftp location. Go to project properties Go to publish click updates click browse click FTP Site Under Server put: web###.opentransfer.com Under Port: 21 Under Directory put: CMSOFT Passive mode is selected (which is what filezilla tells me the server is accessed with) Anonymous User is unselected and a username and password are typed in Push Ok Under Update location it shows: ftp://web###.opentransfer.com/CMSOFT I push Ok I see a message box titled Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express with an x icon Publish.UpdateUrl: The string must be a fully qualified URL or UNC path, for example "http://www.microsoft.com/myapplication" or "\server\myapplication". I've tried changing the directory to "CMSOFT/PQCM.exe" and the results are the same...hope this was descriptive enough.

• Can the traditional remote desktop client be accessed in Windows RT?

  As mentioned in another question, I've been unable to connect through the Remote Desktop metro app to some computers, in particular those requiring VPN access or load balancers. I'm considering purchasing a Microsoft Surface RT, but given that the app store hasn't matured significantly yet and some niche software will likely never be ported to the Modern UI, I must have acess to remote systems somehow. Until Citrix fixes the receiver app for Windows 8, I'm stuck using remote desktop. Which doesn't work. I've heard that Windows RT comes with some of the Microsoft desktop programs built in, like Microsoft Office and File Explorer. Is the "normal" Remote Desktop Connection program available in Windows RT, and if so, is it 100% compatible with previous versions?

  I have written some code to update certain rows of a table with a decreasing sequence of numbers. To select the correct rows I have to JOIN two tables. The last row in the table needs to have a value of 0, the second last -1 and so on. To achieve this I use ORDER BY DESC. Unfortunately my code brings up the following error: Incorrect usage of UPDATE and ORDER BY My reading suggests that I can't use UPDATE, JOIN and ORDER BY together. I've read that maybe subqueries might help? I don't really have any idea how to change my code to do this. • SBS2003 to SBS2011 Migration - Installation Error

  Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 to 2011 Migration. I followed the Migration Guide from Microsoft and the source server had no errors when running the various tests prior to the migration. I have completed the destination server setup using the Answer File and the server is up and running. It all looks good, I can access Exchange and AD and the only problem is the error message when you log in stating that the setup did not complete and to check the logs. Because all looks good I am continuing the migration to the destination server. I also have to state that this client does not use Sharepoint at all. Do I have to redo everything?
