• Passing null child object from parent object to a partial view

  I have an object which contains models for my ASP.NET MVC web app. The Model that is being passed into the view has sub models for "gadgets" on that particular view. Each of these sub models gets passed to a partial view (gadget). The problem is when I have a null model in the view model. See example below. View Model: public class FooBarHolder() { public FooBar1 FooBar1 { get; set; } public FooBar2 FooBar2 { get; set; } } We pass FooBarHolder into the view and inside the view we make calls such as <% Html.RenderPartial("Foo", Model.FooBar1); %> <% Html.RenderPartial("Foo2", Model.FooBar2); %> Now say for instance that Model.FooBar2 was null. What I am experiencing from the strongly typed partial view is an error that says "This view expected a model of type FooBar2 but got a model of type FooBarHolder." Why is this happening instead of just passing in a null?

• Workarounds for supporting MVVM in the Silverlight TreeView Control

  MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) is the pattern that you will typically choose for building testable user interfaces either in WPF or Silverlight. This pattern basically relies on the data binding support in those two technologies for mapping an existing model class (the view model) to the different parts of the UI or view. Unfortunately, MVVM was not threated as first citizen for some of controls released out of the box in the Silverlight runtime or the Silverlight toolkit. That means that using data binding for implementing MVVM is not always something trivial and usually requires some customization in the existing controls. In ran into different problems myself trying to fully support data binding in controls like the tree view or the context menu or things like drag & drop.  For that reason, I decided to write this post to show how the tree view control or the tree view items can be customized to support data binding in many of its properties. In first place, you will typically use a tree view for showing hierarchical data so the view model somehow must reflect that hierarchy. An easy way to implement hierarchy in a model is to use a base item element like this one, public abstract class TreeItemModel { public abstract IEnumerable<TreeItemModel> Children; } You can later derive your concrete model classes from that base class. You can bind this model to the tree view control in the UI by using a Hierarchical data template. <e:TreeView x:Name="TreeView" ItemsSource="{Binding Customers}"> <e:TreeView.ItemTemplate> <sdk:HierarchicalDataTemplate ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <!-- TEMPLATE --> </sdk:HierarchicalDataTemplate> </e:TreeView.ItemTemplate> </e:TreeView> An interesting behavior with the Children property and the Hierarchical data template is that the Children property is only invoked before the expansion, so you can use lazy load at this point (The tree view control will not expand the whole tree in the first expansion). The problem with using MVVM in this control is that you can not bind properties in model with specific properties of the TreeView item such as IsSelected or IsExpanded. • What's wrong with relative imports in Python?

  I recently upgraded versions of pylint, a popular Python style-checker. It has gone ballistic throughout my code, pointing out places where I import modules in the same package, without specifying the full package path. The new error message is W0403. W0403: Relative import %r, should be %r Used when an import relative to the package directory is detected. Example For example, if my packages are structured like this: /cake /__init__.py /icing.py /sponge.py /drink and in the sponge package I write: import icing instead of import cake.icing I will get this error. While I understand that not all Pylint messages are of equal importance, and I am not afraid to dismiss them, I don't understand why such a practice is considered a poor idea. I was hoping someone could explain the pitfalls, so I could improve my coding style rather than (as I currently plan to do) turning off this apparently spurious warning.

• Problem importing Firefox bookmarks to Chromium

  I would like to switch from Firefox to Chromium (it seems to be faster for my system) and I have a large number of bookmarks I would like to import into Chromium. I looked at this question: Can I sync bookmarks between Firefox and Chromium? but that seemed to be specific to Firefox Sync, which I don't have. I just want to import my bookmarks from Firefox into Chromium. However, when I go to the Customize and Control button and then choose the option Import Bookmarks and Settings under the Bookmarks menu item, it gives me this: I have Firefox and Chromium as up to date as the official repositories (I believe), so I really have no clue what is going on. I have attempted to import directly from HTML, but it only imports the first set of bookmarks, nothing beyond that (where all of the bookmarks I really want are.) Can I import the JSON Firefox backup file into Chromium, or am I stuck manually entering all of these bookmarks into Chromium? Thanks!

• Sub routing in a SPA site

  I have a SPA site that I'm working on, I have a requirement that you can have subroutes for a page view model. Im currently using this 'pattern' for the site MyApp.FooViewModel = MyApp.define({ meta: { query: MyApp.Core.Contracts.Queries.FooQuery, title: "Foo" }, init: function (queryResult) { }, prototype: { } }); In the master view model I have a route table this.navigation(new MyApp.RoutesViewModel({ Home: { model: MyApp.HomeViewModel, route: String.empty }, Foo: { model: MyApp.FooViewModel } })); The meta object defines which query should populate the top level view model when its invoked through sammyjs, this is all fine but it does not support sub routing My plan is to change the meta object so that it can (optional offcourse) look like this meta: { query: MyApp.Core.Contracts.Queries.FooQuery, title: "Foo", route: { barId: MyApp.BarViewModel } } When sammyjs detects a barId in the query string the Barmodel will be executed and populated through its own meta object. Is this a good design?

  I have 3 classes CustomerAddress, Customer and CustomerMain. Customer has a import statement : import org.abc.customers.CustomerAddress; While CustomerMain has an import statement : import org.abc.customers.CustomerAddress; import org.abc.customers.Customer; The package for all of these classes are package org.abc.customer Now, this program works fine on eclipse but when i try to compile and run on cmd prompt it would not compile javac CustomerAddress.java compiles fine then since Customer depends on CustomerAddress i give javac -cp . Customer.java but the compiler complains error cannot find symbol CustomerAddress Thanks

• Camera changes view when controller connected

  I have a weird situation. I have a model set to 0 for X,Y and Z. My camera's position is set to: 0 (X-value, but updates when the model moves around) the model's height + 20f (about the same level as the model's shoulders) 25f (behind the model) Without the controller plugged in, everything looks fine as I want it. But as soon as I plug the controller in, the camera aims to the sky! But when I unplug the controller, the camera is back to what it should be. Does anyone have any insight as to what may cause this from plugging a controller in?

  I am trying to implement a virtual file system structure in front of an object storage (Openstack). For availability reasons we initially chose Cassandra, however while designing file system data model, it looked like a tree structure similar to a relational model. Here is the dilemma for availability and partition tolerance we need NoSQL, but our data model is relational. The intended file system must be able to handle filtered search based on date, name etc. as fast as possible. So what path should i take? Stick to relational with some indexing mechanism backed by 3 rd tools like Apache Solr or dig deeper into NoSQL and find a suitable model and database satisfying the model? P.S: Currently from NoSQL Cassandra or MongoDB are choices proposed by my colleagues.

• Issue with Mapping Textures to Models in Blender

  I've been trying to texture a model using Blender, but when I draw on the UV Editor it doesn't show up on the model, and I can't draw on the model itself. I've tried saving the image and the 3D View is set to Texture. Everything seems to be in order and I've followed several tutorials, but none of them seem to work with the version I'm using (2.64-- update was necessary for import plugin) and I'm absolutely stumped. How can I draw textures to the model? If not within Blender itself, how do I export/import the textures? EDIT: Vertex Paint works, though it is insufficient for my purposes. In addition, moving to the rendered view produces a solid-color model with none of the applied textures.

• What is the relationship between the business logic layer and the data access layer?

  I'm working on an MVC-ish app (I'm not very experienced with MVC, hence the "-ish"). My model and data access layer are hard to test because they're very tightly coupled, so I'm trying to uncouple them. What is the nature of the relationship between them? Should just the model know about the DAL? Should just the DAL know about the model? Or should both the model and the DAL be listeners of the other?   well my question sounds a bit like, how do I apply mo-cap animations to my model, but thats not really it I guess. Animations and model share the same skeleton, but the models vary in size and proportion, but I still want to be able to apply any animation to any model. I think this should be possible since the models got the same skeleton bone structure and the bones are always in the same area only their position varies from model to model. In particular Im trying to apply this to 2D characters that got 2arm, 2legs, a head and a body, but if you got anything related to that topic even if its 3D related or keywords, articles, books whatever Im gratefull for everything cause Im a bit stuck at the moment. cheers Jery

  I am developing a tool for simulating systems like the Gray-Scott model (That is systems where spatial distribution depends on time). The actual model is loaded from a DLL or shared object and the simulation is performed by a Simulation object. There are at least two situations when the simulation needs to be destroyed: The user loads a new model The user changes the size of the domain To make sure nothing goes wrong, the current Model, Simulation, and rendering Thread are all managed by an ApplicationState object. But the two cases above are initiated from two different UI objects. Is it then ok to distribute a reference to the ApplicationState object to all panels that need to access at least one method on the ApplicationState object? Another solution would be to use aggregation so that the panel from which the user chooses model knows the simulation parameter panel. Also, the ApplicationState class seems somewhat clumsy, so I would like to have something else

• Android WebView not loading a JavaScript file, but Android Browser loads it fine.

  I'm writing an application which connects to a back office site. The backoffice site contains a whole slew of JavaScript functions, at least 100 times the average site. Unfortunately it does not load them, and causes much of the functionality to not work properly. So I am running a test. I put a page out on my server which loads the FireBugLite javascript text. Its a lot of javascript and perfect to test and see if the Android WebView will load it. The WebView loads nothing, but the browser loads the Firebug Icon. What on earth would make the difference, why can it run in the browser and not in my WebView? Any suggestions. More background information, in order to get the stinking backoffice application available on a Droid (or any other platform except windows) I needed to trick the bakcoffice application to believe what's accessing the website is Internet Explorer. I do this by modifying the WebView User Agent. I'm assuming its either not enough memory allocated to the application, process power allocation, or a physical memory thing. I can't tell, all I know is the results are strange. I get the same thing form my android device, the application shows no firebug but the browser shows the firebug.

  Hi, I have to send the audio data in byte array obtain by recording from java applet at the client side to rails server at the controller in order to save. So, what encoding parameters at the applet side be used and in what form the audio data be converted like String or byte array so that rails correctly recieve data and then I can save that data at the rails in the file. My problem is ordinary edges who does not have a view like arrows.   I try to use ComboxBoxTableCell without success. The content of the cell display the right value for the attribute of an object. But when the combobox is displayed, all items are displayed with the toString object method and not the attribute. I tryed to override updateItem of ComboBoxTableCell or to provide a StringConverter but nothing works. Do you have some ideas to custom comboxbox list display in a table cell ? I put a short example below to see quickly the problem.   I recently upgraded our SQL Server 2008 installations to service pack 2. One of our databases is on the simple recovery model, but its transaction log is growing extremely fast. The path I'm currently investigating is that we have a transaction somewhere out there stuck in active state. Correct me if my line of thinking is off, as I'm not a SQL Server expert. If this is correct, how do I erase that transaction so that my transaction log is truncated as usual?
