• SharePoint 2010 custom search from Layouts page

  Hi, I am querying SharePoint 2010 search using FullTextSqlQuery. The query returns results as long as i run it from the webpart. However, for some reason, i need to run the same query from a custom aspx page deployed under layouts. The query returns a wcf exception. Has anyone tried running custom queries from pages deployed to layouts folder under 14 hive? Thanks, Faiz

• How to invoke a method with a generic return type using reflection

  Hi there! I'm trying to invoke a method with reflection that has a generic return type, like this: public class SomeClass<T> { public List<T> GetStuff(); } I get an instance of SomeClass with a call to a Repository's GetClass<T> generic method. MethodInfo lGetSomeClassMethodInfo = typeof(IRepository) .GetMethod("GetClass") .MakeGenericMethod(typeof(SomeClass<>); object lSomeClassInstance = lGetSomeClassMethodInfo.Invoke( lRepositoryInstance, null); After that, I this is where I try to invoke the GetStuff method: typeof(SomeClass<>).GetMethod("GetStuff").Invoke(lSomeClassInstance, null) I get an exception about the fact that the method has generic arguments. However, I can't use MakeGenericMethod to resolve the return type. Also, if instead of typeof(SomeClass<>) I use lSomeClassInstance.GetType() (which should have resolved types) GetMethod("GetStuff") returns null! UPDATE I have found the solution and will post the answer shortly.

• Select a data template by item type programatically in WPF

  Hi all, unfortunately the WPF ToolbarTray does not support binding to a collection of ToolbarViewModels (Correct me, if I'm wrong). Thus I want to create the Toolbars programmatically. So there are two tasks, which I don't know how to do: Select the data template based on the item type. Instantiate the data template as toolbar Both should do the same as WPF does, when we use ItemsControl with an enumerable content and empty template. I used reflector to anaylse what WPF does. Task 1 is done by FrameworkElement.FindTemplateResourceInternal, but this is internal, and I couldn't find any public methods to acomplish the task. Of course one could enumerate all resources and match the data template data type property, but this seems sub-optimal. Who know's how to acomplish these tasks?

• Changing an Action Type="click" to an auto action in SVG

  I have a SVG document that I exported from Visio 2003 that would like to edit. This file has an action where you click a button it will navigate to a new screen. What I would like to do is have the navigation be based off of a data point rather than having to click the button. As an example I have a dynamic point data being brought into the SVG file and when that value changes from 0 to 1, I want this screen to automatically navigate to another screen.   I have created a custom JiBX marshaller and verified it works. So I tried to reference it with abstract mapping like this: <binding xmlns:tns="http://foobar.com/foo" direction="output"> <namespace uri="http://foobar.com/foo" default="elements"/> <mapping abstract="true" type-name="configuration" class="java.util.HashMap" marshaller="com.foobar.Marshaller1"/> <mapping abstract="true" type-name="overrides" class="java.util.HashMap" marshaller="com.foobar.Marshaller2"/> <mapping name="context" class="com.foobar.Context"> <structure map-as="configuration" field="configuration"/> <structure map-as="overrides" field="overrides"/> </mapping> </binding> However when doing so, when I attempt to build the binding, I receive the following: Error during code generation for file "E:\project\src\main\jibx\foo.jibx" - this may be due to an error in your binding or classpath, or to an error in the JiBX code My guess is that either I'm missing something I need to implement to enable my custom marshaller for abstract mapping, or custom marshallers do not support abstract mapping. I have found the IAbstractMarshaller interface in the JiBX API (http://jibx.sourceforge.net/api/org/jibx/runtime/IAbstractMarshaller.html), however the documentation seems unclear to me on if this is what I need to implement, as well as how it works if so. I have not been able to find an implementation of this interface to work off of as an example. My question is, how do you do abstract mapping with custom marshallers (if it's possible)? If it is done via the IAbstractMarshaller interface, how does it work and/or how should I implement it?

  Hi, Like a lot of people, I'd like to customize the ugly input type=file, and I know that it can't be done without some hacks and/or javascript. But, the thing is that in my case the upload file buttons are just for uploading images (jpeg|jpg|png|gif), so I was wondering if I could use a "clickable" image which would act exactly as an input type file (show the dialog box, and same $_FILE on submitted page). I found some workaround here, and this interesting one too (but does not work on Chrome =/). What do you guys do when you want to add some style to your file buttons? The tricky part is that some of the custom links need security trimming which you don't get when you add your own links to the navigation.   I tried making a custom configuration class that went on like this: WatcherServiceInfoSection<TWatcherServiceDetailElement> where TWatcherServiceDetailElement is a ConfigurationElement inside it. Now when I call the type in the ConfigSections area of AppConfig I get the error: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for WatcherServiceInfo: Could not load type 'Library.Common.Utilities.ConfigurationHandler.WatcherServiceInfoSection<ASNDPService.Configuration.WatcherServiceDetailElement>' from assembly Is what I'm doing possible? Can I have generic types in the type attribute for a custom section element? EDIT Additionally, how about ConfigurationElementCollection objects? Like in the above example, how could I do a [ConfigurationProperty("WatcherServiceDetails", IsRequired = true, IsDefaultCollection = true)] [ConfigurationCollection(typeof(TWatcherServiceDetailElement), AddItemName = "WatcherServiceDetail")] public WatcherServiceDetailCollection<TWatcherServiceDetailElement> WatcherServiceDetails I'm aware that type parameters aren't allowed for attributes and that's what I want to know how to do.

• Constructor type not found

  Hello, What I am doing: I am taking the Microsoft Enterprise Library 4.1 and attempting to expand upon it using a few derived classes. I have created a MyLogEntry, MyFormatter, and MyTraceListener which derive from their respective base classes when you remove the "My" from their names. What my problem is: Everything compiles fine. When I go to run a test using Logger.Write(logEntry) it errors right after it initializes MyTraceListener with an error message: "The current build operation (... EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.LogWriter, null]) failed: Constructor on type 'MyLogging.MyFormatter' not found. (Strategy type ConfiguredObjectStrategy, index 2) I figured it was something to do with the constructor so I tried removing it, add it, and adding a call to the base class LogFormatter. Nothing has worked. Does anyone have insight into this problem? Is it maybe a reference issue? Bad App.config configuration? Thank you in advance

  I'm posting a form with javascript and it seems to be changing a value that I've entered in. I see this in fiddler. If get rid of the javascript and click the button above, it goes through how it should. Why is JQuery changing my text?

  Oftentimes I want to bring up a system class in a source view, so that I can browse the properties and methods exposed by the class in a source view. Below is the screenshot of what I mean: Usually I do this by selecting the class name and pressing F12 (or right clickGo To Definition). However, if I haven't got it anywhere ready, i have type it up and then do Go To Definition. Most of the time I have to delete what I typed later on. Is there a way to bring up this view without having to type the class name? The VS2010 Navigate To dialog doesn't support this.

• saving a records containing a member of type string to a file (Delphi, Windows)

  I have a record that looks similar to: type TNote = record Title : string; Note : string; Index : integer; end; Simple. The reason I chose to set the variables as string (as opposed to an array of chars) is that I have no idea how long those strings are going to be. They can be 1 char long, 200 or 2000. Of course when I try to save the record to a type file (file of...) the compiler complains that I have to give a size to string. Is there a way to overcome this? or a way to save those records to an untyped file and still maintain a sort of searchable way? Please do not point me to possible solutions, if you know the solution please post code. Thank you

  I am learning XML Serialization and meet an issue, I have two claess [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlInclude(typeof(SubClass))] public class BaseClass { } public class SubClass : BaseClass { } I am trying to serialize a SubClass object into XML file, I use blow code XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Base)); xs.Serialize(fs, SubClassObject); I noticed Serialization succeed, but the XML file is kind of like ... If I use XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Base)); SubClassObject = xs.Deserialize(fs) as SubClass; I noticed it will complain xsi:type is unknown attribute(I registered an event), although all information embedded in the XML was parsed successfully and members in SubClassObject was restored correctly. Anyone has any idea why there is error in parsing xsi:type and anything I did wrong? Thanks

  While trying to come-up with a servlet based application to read files and manipulate them (image type conversion) here is a question that came up to me: Is it possible to inspect a file content and know the filetype? Is there a standard that specifies that each file MUST provide some type of marker in their content so that the application will not have to rely on the file extension constraints? Consider an application scenario: I am creating an application that will be able to convert different file formats to a set of output formats. Say user uploads an PDF, my application can suggest that the possible conversion formats are microsoft word or TIFF or JPEG etc. As my application will gradually support different file formats (over a period of time), I want my application to inspect the input file instead of having the user to specify the format. And suggest to user the possible formats of output. I understand this is an open ended, broad question. Please let me know if it needs to be modified. Thanks, Ayusman

  I'm trying to convert a Python Script to Vb.Net. The Python Script appears to accept some XML input data and then takes it to a web URL and does a "POST". I tried some VB.NET code to do it, but I think my approach is off because I got an error back "BadXmlDataErr" plus I can't really format my input XML very well - I'm only doing string and value. The input XML is richer than that. Here is an example of what the XML input data looks like in the Python script: <obj is="MyOrg:realCommand_v1/" > <int name="priority" val="1" /> <real name="value" val="9.5" /> <str name="user" val="MyUserName" /> <reltime name="overrideTime" val="PT60S"/> </obj> Here's the Vb.net code I attempted to convert that: Dim reqparm As New Specialized.NameValueCollection reqparm.Add("priority", "1") reqparm.Add("value", "9.5") reqparm.Add("user", "MyUserName") reqparm.Add("overrideTime", "PT60S") Using client As New Net.WebClient Dim sTheUrl As String = "[My URL]" Dim responsebytes = client.UploadValues(sTheUrl, "POST", MyReqparm) Dim responsebody = (New System.Text.UTF8Encoding).GetString(responsebytes) End Using I feel like I should be doing something else.
