• BufferedReader ready method in a while loop to determine EOF?

  I have a large file (wikipedia english arcticles only database as xml file) I am using to read one character at a time using BufferedReader. The psuedo code is: file = BufferedReader... while (file.ready()) character = file.read() is this actually valid? Or will ready just return false when it is waiting for the HDD to return data and not actually when the EOF has been reached? I tried to use if (file.read() == -1) but seemed to run into an infinite loop that I literally could not find. I am just wondering if it is reading the whole file as my statistics say 444 380 wikipedia pages have been read but I thought there were many more articles..

I try to use the documentation, but i didn't get it well. • How to handle dynamic site localizations?

  I've got a website that is currently all in english. It is an online game, so it has a bunch of different pages with static text, as well as a lot of content in a database. I am trying to expand more globally and am gearing up to release some localizations of the site. However, I'm not sure about the best way to go about setting this up so that it'll be the easiest for me to manage and the easiest for users to use as well. Should I be storing the translated texts in a database, or should this be done in a completely different way? If it matters at all, the site is written in PHP and uses MySQL.

• Need help with events in COM in pure C++!

  Hello, guys! Very important question: Please, look at my project (300Kb). I can`t use MFC/ATL, pure C++ only. I have COM library (niapi.dll), but no sources/headers available, dll only. There is class for connecting to server (NiApi::SrvrSession), class has login event handler (NiApi::SrvrSession::OnLogin). I used #import "NiApi.dll" to generate wrappers/information, then ISrvrSessionPtr session(L"NiApi.SrvrSession"); to create object, then trying session->put_OnLogin(); to assign events, but there is no one put_On or such member. niapi.tlh have _ISrvrSessionEvents struct inside, but it have no relations with SrvrSession. I need to use events from NiApi::SrvrSession for handling connection status. Please help or my boss kill me! (sorry for broken english, I read better than speak;)

  Hi Experts, I had a Ribbon like custom control. I created an application using this control. These applications work fine until I change the system number format. They crashes if I change the system number format like below: Current Format = English (United State) Decimal symbol = ',' Digit group symbol = '.' When I run applications, they throw an exception "Input string not in Correct format". . Some other applications specify the Exception's message = "Input string '0,2,0,2' was not a correct format", so I think in Wpf ES's xaml files, we may declare some properties i.e Padding, Margin like "0,2,0,2" = that will cause errors with the system number format above. I have note that this error only occurs in Windows Vista, it does not occurs on Windows XP. I do not know why?   If got a CustomCell loaded using: NSArray *nibObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"CustomCell" owner:nil options:nil]; I have no problems with the tableview but when I select a row I want display more information on that row(like facebook app)... using the typical "show more". At the beginning the row show "title" and "description". When I select that row i want to show "title", "description" and a webview... and, of course, make the row bigger to accommodate that objects. Maybe changing this CustomCell by another bigger CustomCell? I have no idea where to start. Thanks. Sorry for my english :S

  I have been storing option lists for my Android app in a cloud table. For example, categories like "historical fiction","biography","science fiction", etc. I see the following pros and cons: Pro: I can make changes to the list without sending an app update to Google Play Not normalized - I can use the text in my other data tables instead of a reference ID Con: App needs to take time to download from the web each time (or at least check for changes) English only I believe the "proper" way to do this is the use the XML resource files. But I need to make sure the selection references correctly with my data. That is, my app needs to understand that "Poetry" and "Poesía" are the same thing. Is the correct thing to do: Forget about it since I'll never get to the point where I'm translating my app anyway Use a string-array and use the index (0...x) to know what the selection is Use a 2-dimensional string-array with a reference ID in the first column and the text in the second?

Now i'm able to create new accounts in the database with hashed passwords. But how do i keep track that a user is logged in. How can i effectively conduct search of recipes by user-provided ingredients, preferably sorted by max match - so, first going recipes that use maximum of provided ingridients and do not contain any other ingrs, after them recipes that uses less of provided set and still not any other ingrs, after them recipes with minimum additional requirements and so on? All i can think about is represent recipe ingridients like bitmasks, and compare required bitmask with all recipes, but it is obviously a bad way to go. And related things like Levenstein distance i don't see how to use here. I believe it should be quite common task...

  In my database I have three tables: Users: UserID (Auto Numbering), UserName, UserPassword and a few other unimportant fields. PrivateMessages: MessageID (Auto Numbering), SenderID and a few other fields defining the message content. MessageStatus: MessageID, ReceiverID, MessageWasRead (Boolean) What I need is a query to which I input a user's id and I get all the private messages he has received. In addition, I also need to receive each message's sender UserName.   Currently, if I change the locale setting of my application by Locale.setDefault(Locale.ENGLISH); Locale.setDefault(Locale.SIMPLIFIED_CHINESE); What I understand from this JFreeChart forum is that, I am not using correct font. Once you get the reference of the LegentTitle, you can set it to any font. Apparently, JFreeChart's default is "Tahoma" and it doesn't support Chinese characters. May I know, how I can programmatic determine, as list of available Fonts in my system, which support Chinese? I can hard code it to Serif (It fully support Chinese, doesn't it?), its look n feel doesn't looks good to me. I would like to have more choices.

  I have a AJAX client which must receive messages from server. Some messages from server not like request-response type. For example, imaging game in which players can enter. Server must send to client info about player entering. But how can server send message to client via http without request from client? Only decision that i can invent: client send request to server (getNewPlayerEnter request) with big timeout, server checks state of player set, if in set new players are, then server send info to client, if not server 'sleeps' on some time, and after 'sleeping' server checks players set again. • Need help in downloading file with header() function

  Hi. I'm trying to explain as best as I can, sorry for my English. I have a list of links, each linked to a php file with an id by parameters (ex. download.php?id=1 or ?id=2 and so on). This file create a new instance of a class witch return the correct header of the files so it displays the save dialog box of the browser. Now I need to check if the files is already downloaded in past (The first time you downloaded it I add a field on the mysql db). This checks go ahead if you haven't download the files, else return false. Here is the problem, when it returns false or something else the browser redirect me to the download.php file, so I get a blank page or what I'm echoing. I need that if the file is already download it show me a js alert for advice ppl. Hope you can understand what i mean. Thanks for help

  Problem: I have a QT based multiplatform (win,mac,*nix) application that parses ascii files containing decimal numbers. parsing is done using a variety of different code pieces that use anything from qt string stuff, c++ stdin, oldstyle scanf, etc. ascii files have always the '.' (dot) as separated decimal (e.g. in the file to be parsed 1/10 is written 0.1 as standard in many countries). people using the application within a OS localized for using comma separated decimal encounter a lot of problems (e.g. for french users scanf expect to find 0,1 as a valid textual representation of 1/10 and if they find 0.1 scanf will parse it as 0) How can I be sure that the OS Locale indication of how decimal point has to be written is always ignored? Is it safe assuming that adding QLocale::setDefault(QLocale(QLocale::English,QLocale::UnitedStates)); is enough to get rid of all these problems? Any suggestion for portable ways of setting the locale globally?

The issue is I need modify the primary_key name of the database :id with :another_id, in my project I need to use pgrouting and it contains several plsql functions and these functions uses the primary-key with the name gid and instead of modify the plsql functions is better change the id name, and I was thinking do this with a migration becouse I thought it's the rails way.   PHP has many built-in functions to validate numbers but they all expect input in computer format: 1234.56. I need to validate stuff like 1,234.56 (English) or 1.234,56 (Spanish), together with some typical attributes (accepted range, max number of decimals, etc.). I started writing my own function but I soon got lost. It's easy to read the user input into a float variable but I want to be able to detect numbers with invalid formats like 1,23456.7 or 1..25. Do you have any recommendation on the subject? (Decimal and thousand characters are known beforehand and it's okay to hard-code digit groups as three, there's no need to cover Indian number format.)
